Highly interested in these too. I bought 6 of them just because, have yet to throw them in armor.

Power and bonus XP? Would be interesting.

Sorry for the double post, but I just tested them. It seems they do give power and bonus XP. On the level 30 mobs outside LA, without the runes I was getting 258xp a kill, and with them I was getting 284xp per kill.

Got a total of 165 power from them. Interesting little item here.

Actually, lorewise, weren’t the guilds groups within each kingdom that often had conflicts? Conflicts that eventually pulled the whole kingdoms into war, but it started on a smaller scale. My memory may be failing me though.

Not that it really matters, but you know.

Also, actual GvG is happening in HoT I believe. So there is that.

gamebreaking fps rate drop

I’m usually at 60 and I just dropped to 11 in a pvp match. Anything going on that could be causing this?

I’ve ran into this a few times. No idea what causes it, but I normally have to restart the client. Sometimes it fixes itself when the match ends and I zone back to HoTM, but obviously that doesn’t help much.

Earlier today I played a whole match at 10FPS, basically lost every 1v1 (on a thief, it was a bit embarrassing.)

A month or two ago I had a match that started at 15 FPS and ended at literally 1-2 FPS. It just progressively got worse.

It’s pretty rare, but holy poop it makes playing those matches near impossible if you are at all glassy.

Anyone who is defending these traits has never leveled an alt and wanted to play around with it.

If these unlocks were account wide, I’d have no issue with the system. But they are character based. That is kittening lunacy. I now have 4 80s and want to play around with builds, try weird things out, ect ect. However, I am not going to spend hours on each alt grinding out events nor am I willing to spend butt tons of gold and skill points. So I just buy guides for a pre-built and all it a day.

My main is just fine, because I’ve unlocked almost everything. I enjoy switching builds for random things and experimenting. I want to do that with all my toons.

Why this keep happening? One server TWICE the rank of the other servers on the same matchup?

This isn’t fun to play on the winning side neither on losing side. This should never happen.

I really hope this is changed on HoT release.

I am on HoD. The other night YB poured into our BL, formed multiple blobs, and flipped the whole map green within an hour, including fully upgraded garrison and bay.

It’s not fun. No one wants to play in those conditions. Why would they? It’s just repeated losing.

The problem is that until the Pale Tree recovers (or another safeguard is found/created), no one outside of the player character is safe.

And Canach and more than likely Caithe. All the different art during the unveiling suggests that he will be joining Marjory and Co, and Caithe most likely has plot armor (for now) like the player. It would be bad writing if they had her, “I’m stealing this egg to protect it from Mor—- ALL PRAISE HIS ALMIGHTY LEAFYNESS, MORDREMORTH!”

I have a feeling that the Firstborn are the safest, simply because they seem have a very strong connection to the tree, even compared to other Sylvari.

I don’t really have anything specific to back this up, but it would make sense that her first children would have the strongest link, considering that they were alone with the Pale Tree for a few years.

As for Canach, regardless of plot armor, he would probably be too strong willed to easily be taken by Mordremoth.

LA still being a wreck really bothers me. In this “living breathing world”, a major trade hub has been in shambles for an incredibly long time, both in game and real time.

As much as I love the idea of the world changing with the story, the follow through on the ‘back end’, if you will, leaves a lot to be desired. Take Fort Concordia for example. Attacked and destroyed by Mordremoth… and if you play your personal story, it was apparently already wrapped in vines before Fort Trinity was built.

“Oh no, fellow Pact members, I am sure this completely ruined fort is a great place to meet up. Those vines are just decor, I’m sure. I sure hope no Mord….Risen get us. What year is this? My head hurts.”

Fort Concordia is really inexcusable, because it’s already an instanced zone in the personal story. I can’t believe it would be a huge chore to put the old fort in for that quest.

I don’t even want to talk about all the Seraph in Kessex Hills that apparently missed the memo about Fort Salma either.

Oh yeah, Seraph Scout? Fort Salma is the staging point against the Centuars? I’m sure that is going freaking fabulously.

My hope is that with HoT some changes will be made to the world. Not holding my breath though.

Well first off, it seems to be a proximity thing. I don’t think Mordremoth just flipped the terminator switch on his Sylvari control panel at the exact time the Pact ships were overtop him. If he could do that, he probably would have during the attack on the grove. Considering the boldness and ferocity of the attack, it can easily be assumed Mordremoth wants the Tree dead. If he could have turned the Sylvari whenever/wherever he wanted, the Tree would be burning and almost every major icon of the races would be dead. The fight would have been over, then and there.

Secondly, it’s hinted that susceptibility to Mordremoth depends on the willpower and strength of the individual, being the dragon of mind and whatnot.

Thirdly, and probably most importantly, the Pale Tree has been responsible for protecting the Sylvari. At the time the Pact sailed, she was too weak to even maintain an avatar for more than a few minutes at a time. Without her shield, the Sylvari on those ships were far more susceptible.

It would seem probable that the Tree, when recovered (if she recovers), could ward the minds of the weak Sylvari again, snapping them out of the dragon’s control.

A lot is still up in the air (ha), but it’s pretty safe to say that unless one was on those ships they aren’t at any risk.

The Pale Tree has protected the Sylvari up until this point. She is still incredibly weak from the attack on her, and therefore Mordremoth was able to take them with ease. There are also hints, as stated above, that it has something to do with the individuals willpower.

I’d assume the Tree will have recovered by the timelime of HoT, so I doubt the Sylvari will be so easy to get down with Grandpa Mordy. Ignoring that though, our PCs have been through hell and back with a smile.

We traipsed through Tyria, wiping out centaur tribes and bandit clans, dealt huge blows to the Inquest, the Nightmare Court, the Son’s of Svanir, the Destroyers, the Icebrood, you name it, we defeated it and planted our leafy feet on it’s corpse. To finish our first Wyld Hunt, we leisurely strolled through Orr, killing minions, lieutenants, and champions alike, then took to the skies and blew Zhaitan into smelly dragon kibble.

As a vacation from dragon slaying, we took down the Molten Alliance, ruined the Consortium’s schemes, killed some Sky Pirates, tore down the Nightmare Tower, chased after Scarlet, battled her forces in Lion’s Arch to help evacuate, eventually helped storm the city, and finally drove our leafy hands through her leafy chest cavity. We even let that kittening human mesmer take credit, because we knew the truth would be recorded in the dream.

Of course, a salad’s job is never done. Now there was a new dragon to kill, and lord knows how much we love that. So we took off to Dry Top to save some more squishy humans, killed another crazy Sylvari, romped back through some forts to save the day, tracked down a Ley Hub, peaked into the Eternal Alchemy (with sanity intact), nearly eliminated the Ascalonian ghosts, saved the Waypoint network, united the racial leaders, saved the Grove from the Shadow of the Dragon, danced through Glint’s Lair, hunted down Glint’s Egg, relived Caithe’s life, and finally killed the little kitten that hurt our Mother Tree. With divine fire.

Nothing stops the Leafy Pact Commander. Mordremoth is praying he corrupts us before we find him.

So… uh, that’s the long way of saying the PC Sylvari is too strong for Mordremoth to take. Trahearne helped with some of the first part, and he has that sword, so he is probably okay.

Konig, you keep bringing up “Sylvari don’t consume magic.” “Sylvari don’t have a hivemind.” “Sylvari don’t function like minions.”

But why should they? They were not made directly made by a dragon. They are not connected to a dragon. They never have been. They are protected by the Pale Tree. I explained in another thread, in response to you, the reasons why those things ( and a few other points as well) wouldn’t apply to Sylvari.

Here is a link: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/lore/I-knew-we-couldn-t-trust-them-SPOILER/page/5#post4703711

They don’t have a hivemind because the hivemind is the minions connection to their respective dragon. No Dragon, no hivemind.

They don’t “eat” magic because they have no Dragon to bring it to. Not only that, but few lesser minions actually have the ability to absorb magic, let alone require it to survive. You mention Glint in this regard, but Glint was a powerful champion. The Pale Tree is the closest comparison one could make to Glint, and it is pretty clear she/it has been sucking up magic for 250 freaking years. Her children literally glow with it. The Tree herself sparkles with magic.

Then there is the biggest issue, one that a lot of people seem to overlook: The Pale Tree is the only entity that would have ANY direct link to the dragon. She is the thing we should be comparing to other Champions/minions, not the actual Sylvari. Ultimately their relationship with Mordremoth is indirect.

Then, yet another big thing, is that the Pale Tree’s awakening/birth is highly unprecedented and can’t be compared to any other champions. Name another champion to awaken 300 years before their dragon was supposed to, and there will be grounds for debate.

Mordremoth had no influence in Tyria before Scarlet woke him up. That means the Tree had a good 250 dragon-magic-free years to be born, grow, suck up “pure” magic, and learn about the world.

Not even Mawdrey can be compared. Mawdrey’s seed was found, grown, and cared for after Mordremoth awoke. It was already under his influence and touched by his power. The Pale Tree’s seed was found, taken away from where Mordremoth slept, grown, and cared for (I feel I can’t stress this enough) TWO-HUNDRED-FIFTY-YEARS before Mordremoth so much as snorted. That alone makes her completely unique in the realm of minions.

Personally, I don’t see how it can alter keybinds of the game quickly without altering the game code. So if you know how it does that, please say so.

Yeah, I danced around the explicit point a bit. Sorry about that. It changes the input from the mouse to the computer, not from the mouse/computer to the game. Much like the Naga and similar mice do. With it activated, your computer reads the mouse keys as number keys and reads the mouse button as pressed. The key-bindings and all settings in game remain the same.

People use similar methods to play with controllers via xpadder. Nothing changes in the game, just using a different input method to the computer. If that is bannable, there is a whole floodgate that will be opened. Anet may as well start packing keyboards and mice into the game box.

@Donari.5237
I totally forgot about that… last time I used was at windows xp I think lol, thanks, ill see if I start using it as well..

@Aidan Savage.2078
@Seera.5916
You both right, it does modifies the gameplay experience, though what the mod does is hold right click and that’s pretty much it.. (kinda the same function of macros keys from keyboards and mouses) however, it is an outside / third party executable that is constantly running on the background, messing around with the gameplay itself. On all fairness I doubt it actually gives an advantage over other players, you do have faster response, but you still need to spam the skills correctly for win a battle, either way would be very arguable matter, and would be safe to asume that devs thinks same way, that such feature could make half community happy and other half angry… therefore never implement it. I would be more happy though with devs who actualy have the b4lls for do a move like this one and put this feature into the game for make it more fresh and new then play it safe and stay like it is~

Faster response is an advantage.

If two players have the same DPS ability, then the one who starts first will win if neither player messes up their rotation.

If one is using the Combat Mod and the other is not, that faster response could give them the win. And that’s why ANet may view it as not allowed.

I have a Razer Naga. My response time would be faster because my thumb is constantly on the skill buttons. A 3rd party program, in the form of Razer Synapse, constantly runs in the background “messing” with the gameplay. Should I be banned?

Some people have external gaming keypads that are run and bound with 3rd party software. Should they be banned? Of course not. That would be insanity.

Also, having used this “mod” (using the term incredibly lightly) before, I can tell you it is nearly worthless in PvP and often even a disadvantage. Especially if you have AoE skills. You have much less control than is often needed, sometimes even in PvE. It’s why I quit using it pretty quickly.

It’s not even a mod, as it doesn’t touch the game, it’s files, or it’s code in any way shape or form. It overlays a reticle on your desktop that is placed on the top layer. It then changes your mouse buttons to read as “1” and “2” on the number keys and holds down the right mouse button. Nothing to do with the game, there would be no way to even detect it. It can even run without a game active, if you feel like locking your cursor to the center of the screen without a cause.

Unless Anet is actively monitoring all of our files and processes while GW2 is open, it would never be detected. Not to mention that would make GW2 nearly a virus.

tl;dr
That guy is full of crap, this isn’t a real mod, and it doesn’t give any real advantage over anyone.

What is the point of rallying?

All of the LS bosses have been incredibly annoying to me. They were clearly not balanced for soloing, which is pretty stupid if you ask me, since our character is supposedly the hero of the story. Basically everyone in my guild had to get help from someone else for this new one, and most of them are in full ascended and have been SUPER MLG MTN DEW PROS since GW1. I might just be terrible, but there is no way they all are.

I just love running around dodging kittenloads of AoE trying to light those kittening fires to earn a whole half second of DPS just to rinse and repeat. Or dodging AoE from above while trying not to get grabbed by a vine that can kill me within seconds to then dodge charges so I could get half a second of DPS and repeat. Or killing burrowing vines that throw out kittenloads of AoE while dodging more AoE cones just to get a whole 3 seconds of DPS. No really. It was so much fun. And I really loved having to leave the story to repair my armor and doing it all over again.

Seriously. I’m not even being sarcastic. SO. MUCH. FUN.

Yes I am exaggerating, but not one of those fights left me feeling anything but frustrated and wanting to tear my hair out. Even if the mechanics were pretty well done (like the last shadow of the dragon encounter) the balance for non-heavy classes leaves an incredible amount to be desired.

The choice seems to be either A.) Zombie it repeatedly and hope your armor (or your mind) doesn’t break before you actually win or
B.) Run with protection stats and spend 8 years fighting the bosses.
C.) Rage quit and watch the cinematic on YouTube.

As shown by Mazdak and other far-flung minions, distance doesn’t affect one’s lack of free will that all dragon minions have. Which brings us to the second contradtion: free will. Dragon minions – at least for risen, icebrood, branded, destroyer, and the non-sylvari mordrem – do not have such.

Mazdak, and those similar, were all already being directly controlled before becoming distant. They had some kind of contact with either the dragon or it’s champions, and did so either close to or after the dragons awoke. Free will comes with being separated from the Dragon.

The third is appearance. All icebrood look the same; all destroyers look the same; all branded look the same; all risen look the same. Now, obviously not “the same” as in clones, but the same general appearance .
snip

And purification by all our knowledge does not change one’s appearance: “Glint remained in crystalline form, but she regained her free will and identity.” http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/The_Ruined_City_of_Arah_%28explorable%29#Forgotten (this is referring to the ritual in the interview quote above). Sylvari look nothing like mordrem.

All that were mentioned were formed after or around when the dragons began to wake
up. Glint was freed long after being corrupted. Considering the icebrood change appearance depending on how long they have been exposed, the Pale Tree looks like it does because it gain it’s form without the dragons magic influencing it. The Slyvari look like they do because they were born of the tree. Once corrupted, I am sure they will look closer to Mordrem everyday.

Fourth, we have the hive mind.
snip

The hiveminds are obviously created by a direct link to their dragon. The Risen were created by Zhaitan or his minions. The Icebrood, Destroyers, etc as well. The Dragons are the central brain, if you will. Sylvari are separated from their Dragon and protected by the tree, so there isn’t a reason they should have a hivemind. Once corrupted, they would almost definitely lose their free will… and you know, probably turn around and kill a bunch of their pact comrades. This is pretty much confirmed by Wynne and her fears of the Sylvari being controlled by Mordremoth. Without the Tree’s protection, the dragon takes over.

For point number five, the immunity is outright stated in the wiki to be the Tree’s doing. So it’s already moot.

Point six is once again explained by the Tree, who is clearly intended to be a champion. The creatures born of her would be her “grunts”. Free from the dragon, she formed them how she wished. When corrupted, they would more than likely be mostly mindless drones akin to the Risen and certain Branded: capable of speech, sure, but only mindlessly parroting the hivemind of Mordremoth completely free of their own intelligence.

As for feeding on magic, only certain minions seem to actually do that. As seen in the Orr bits of the personal story, the Risen grunts would deliver magical artifacts to the higher ups who are the ones that consume it. Nothing seems to point to all minions needing to do this, or even all having the ability to do so. Being plants, of course sunlight feeds Sylvari. I’m sure it does for Mordrem as well.

The one bit you got me on is the food. Although yet again, that is more than likely something the Tree did. Not to mention an incredibly weak argument. Since other minions consume magic to deliver it to their Dragon, there would be no reason for Sylvari to do that as they aren’t under ones control.

Drakkar, The Great Destroyer, Svanir – these were all dragon champions awake while the Elder Dragon slept; and none of them freed; Svanir’s personality outright changes in obvious manners, despite what little examples we had – like all who are corrupted.

Svanir gave himself to the corruption via Drakkar because he wanted power. That alone shows us something as Svanir had to willingly hand himself to Jormag while his sister resisted. Fully living beings seem harder for the Dragons to corrupt, and often have to willingly undertake it.

The Great Destroyer, and I assume Drakkar, were both created by their respective dragons in their main form presumably eons ago. Both were created basically as extensions of their dragons. Not newly created life as the Pale Tree seems to be. They were created and existed within the dragons influence and corruption their whole lives, so to speak. Both dragons also awoke LONG before Mordremoth, leading one to assume they were far stronger than he at the time their champions arose.

Mordremoth awoke 43 years early, and before his awakening had no apparent champions or even a real presence in Tyria. Since almost all his forces, from champions to grunts, are of organic plant matter they must be made/grown, shaped by the dragon. When he sleeps, his minions would decay while the minions of stone, crystal, ice, etc could simply go inactive waiting for their master to hit on “on” button.

The work around there would be seeds, meant to be grown and fed by the dragon’s power around his awakening. The Pale Tree’s seed was removed from his influence and planted long before it could feed off of him, leading it to be fed and influenced by the “pure” magic than flows through Tyria. Considering the size of the tree, the roots probably hit a ley line somewhere. Therefore it has been sustained by an entire different form of magic as compared to other dragon minions.

It would seem that before awakening, he was still too weak to form any real champions, let alone control a champion that was born early and raised outside of his influence. The tree was planted and became conscious and alive around 300 years before Mordremoth was supposed to awaken and around 250 years before he actually did awaken. That alone drastically sets it apart from other champions which either existed before or were created around/after the dragon’s awakening.

interview snip

So it should be impossible to free a dragon champion – or any dragon minion – simply out of being good to them. This is one of the contradictions. If freeing dragon minions can be done by the power of love and friendship, then not only do we truly have a Saturday Morning Cartoon plot on our hands, but then it wouldn’t be so kitten hard for the scholars of the world to find a countering agent.

But it’s not just “love and friendship”. It is a set of philosophical and moral ideals that the Pale Tree took to heart literally centuries before Mordremoth was strong enough to kitten out a single vine to strangle a squirrel. To my knowledge, no other dragon champions had awoke so long before their dragons, let alone be “born” and grow separated from their dragons.

So… uh… where is all the evidence that debunked this theory?

All I see, even from the supposed expert in this thread (who has ragequit the forums, apparently), is that ‘There is tons of contradictions.’ ‘They don’t look/act exactly like all the other mordrem/minions’ ’It’s out of nowhere.’ ’They’ve been debunked.’ ‘NO REALLY GUYS IT’S BEEN DEBUNKED THIS IS STUPID.’

So, someone explain them to me. I’ve seen a lot of glossing over, not a lot of facts. I’m neither a long term poster or an expert, but I’ve seen these hints since I started playing. From what I’ve seen and read, there have been more breadcrumbs leading to this than hard evidence against it. Those arguing that it doesn’t make sense seem to keep falling back on a few, incredibly weak points.

The two theories that always made the most sense was that either they were dragon minions or they were Tyria attempting to rid itself of the dragons. Seems to me, in this moment, it may be both.

The tree was planted long before mordy woke up. That alone may have been enough to “free” it, as it may never have actually been under the dragon’s control. In addition to it’s distance from the dragon and being imprinted early in it’s life by “good” people, it seems highly likely Mordremoth wasn’t strong enough to control the tree at first, and only recently gained the ability to influence the race. Hell, it can’t even control unprotected/weak Sylvari unless they are within spiting distance, as seen in the cinematic.

It seems to me that the Tree was “freed” by means of many converging factors.

1) Being planted and growing before Mordremoth woke up
2) Being imprinted early with “good” teachings
3) Being planted out of reach of the dragons influence
4) Being (possibly) influenced by the human gods and the influence they had on Tyria’s magic
5) Being influenced by both Ronin and Ventari’s essence, as they both died practically on top of it

4 and 5 have a lot to do with dragon’s, and their champions, feeding on magic. The human gods once controlled magic, and had to have left a mark so to speak. While feeding upon said magic sans Mordremoth’s complete control, they could have effected the development of the tree indirectly. It would also explain why Slyvari look humanoid. Then, when Ronin and Ventari died, it is very possible the Tree was further changed upon absorbing their essence.

Then there is the huge problem: we have no real idea how the dragons work. Mordremoth is clearly capable of CREATING life, while the other dragons simply corrupt existing things. The fact is we don’t know enough about them to judge how they, as a group, function. Let alone how Mordremoth himself does his thing. It’s stupid to say it’s stupid, simply because that assumes we know all about the dragons.

Ol’ Zhaitty was blown to kitten before his nature was fully understood. The other dragons have only indirectly been observed through their minions. This is the first time a dragon beyond Zhaitan has really showed it’s hand, and an army of shambling undead revealed little beyond his ability to raise dead. We just don’t know much about them, so one can’t judge based on what little we know.
