This is precisely the problem that led to my complete and utter hatred of Trehearne. Well, this and the voice acting, writing, unksippable dialogue etc. Mainly playing sylvari, the utter incomeptence, weakness and uselessness of this NPC was hammered home through almost every story mission on every toon.
Companions en masse during HoT weren’t so horrifically bad, it’s when you’ve only got one or two of them that their sheer worthlessness shines through and taints everything else.
Traherne was fine fighting as a not quite Legendary Necro build- for original story right up until he takes up that fool two handed sword. While wielding Saladbowl -sorry- Caladbolg he seems to loose all his battle helpfulness even if that was mainly spamming scepter #1. At least it was steady DoT . Anyway- whatever Necro standards he uses are replaced with the fairly weak and slow to use and slow activating abilities of that silly sword.
I don’t know if you have ever had your own character wield that thing but it’s a real stinker. It replaces all of your main weapon skills leaving you in unfamiliar territory combat wise and no option to swap back to your own for the fight.
It’s abilities are slow to execute and slow to recharge. Also decidedly weird abilities. I’m not sure how much thought was put into them functioning together in tandem but… Bad… VERY BAD.
A player character can however at least read what the skills do and try to make the best of it while thanking their gods, iron, the pale tree, the spirits, and the eternal alchemy that they only had to use Saladbog for one fight. ;p I know I was glad when I handed that thing off.
Seriously can you imagine having to use that slow mo powerset the sword provides for every instance battle in the Or storyarc from that moment on? Zero access to your own weapon’s 1-5 skills because your using Caladbarf?
Augh… And the Trahern NPC had to. If he were a player I’d feel bad for him….
Worse… I don’t think the NPC AI has that luxury/thought process that we do while being saddled with one of the worst/slowest 1-5 skills in the game though.
So please cut poor Traherne a little slack for sucking though the bulk of the old story.
Cheers all.
PS for fun….
Pact Commander: "Phew! What a fight. That was… Really awful. Oh!? Oh yes Traherne- I meant the foe was awful. Naturally- as you say. What?… Caladblargh? Oh you take it firstborn. It should be your honor not mine… Definitely not mine. What?… No oh no no no no. No-hoooo friend. I insist. I know my Wylde hunt is to ‘slay the dragon’ and yours is ‘to cleanse the county it resides in’… And It might make sense for the dragonslayer to have a great big sword- but I feel GREAT um… restoring magics within it’s blade. I feel it would be better suited to the cleansing and -oh look! Pale Mother agrees.
Woo! Thanks Mom!"
It’s time for old school crafting to get some love.
Why are we turning these over to a ruddy add on npc for when our own jewel crafter characters could be producing some ascended bling?
They definitely need to have us go back to the Grove for an instanced memorial service/The Dream adventure with Caithe or another First one and recovering Pale Tree Avatar.
However I believe all the voice work is probably already “in the can”…. So I hope they had the presence of mind to do so before we pointed this out to them.
Peace out.
Something tanky or healy that works in water please.
(Shrug) Ok lets see… My rev is going into a water fractal and… Oh Kittens. I have my choice between Power DPS or… Condi DPS… or… nope… nope that’s it.
Well shoot….
Would be awesome! I would rebuy both for this.
C’mon Anet…
(Singsong tone) “You can show us the world…”
Also…
“Surrender Dorothy!” (Madly cackles)
PS: Black and white wings need the new wing look Gold and Falcon etc wings have… at least as a buy-able option.
Will we be able to “gift” this to friends through the mail system? If not- please consider it as a BL Store option. If it is- thank you…. and sorry to be a pest. ;p
I wish to see Jewel-crafting 401-500.
Features required.
- First and foremost; Ascended crafting (incorporating gold and silver ore along with platinum just like current ascended time gated material making for the other crafts that do so).
*Second and perhaps even more important considering the vast number of ways to get random ascended’s as rewards and bought with laurels etc. A crafted and tradable item just like the inscription/insignia’s of other crafts- that can be coupled with the items from the mystic forge vendor to change the stats of those existing ascended rings/amulet/accessories. After all, fair is fair. It’s high time Jewelcrafters enjoy the same benefit the others do.
*The “optional additions”.
They would need to clone some of the Artifice specials. Certainly compounding the various lucks into ‘larger luck’ and the compounding of Agony resistance with stat combos to socket into weapons/armor/jewelry…. I have a feeling that Scribe might be snagging this too anyway.
Your gadget idea is fun and I think artifice could share some of them. Not sure how- your pet idea sure; some jeweled Faberge’ like clockwork or animate carvings.
I would like to see jewelcrafter’s/arties get the ability to craft consumable -usable from one’s inventory ability items. These would be much like the consumables we can find throughout the world from npcs after we unlock them. Some can simply be copy pasted even from existing ones. They could be discovered and or reverse engineered from those found in the world. For balance sake of course- they would be pve and largely open map and personal story capable only as they currently are. Even so they would be a nice touch. This version of the consumable should not be bound to account- thus giving both arties and jewelcrafter’s something neat and tradable.
Classify it as Tinkering?
I would love if an “ready” slot could be added as an F6 ability but I’m fine with them being activated from inventory myself… It would be easier for folks not used to employing them with that functionality though.
Another thing missing is a stat buffing utility consumable. Perhaps the stats that are untouched by the other’s by and large and popular by their own design/desire for HoT.
For example; variants and combinations of Expertise/Resistance/Healing percentage/vitality/toughness as they go up in levels?
Toughness buff and Taunt on a hard cc?
Lots of different possibilities untouched by sharpening stones, maintenance oil etc.
Summary——
Anet could do marvelous things with a expansion to Jewelcrafting. I hope they do.
It would be nice.
Plus it would be cool if Silver and Gold were actually as valuable as their level range wooden counterparts at least. (eyeroll) ;p
I like the underwater stuff.
I am bad on many of the classes though as I don’t use them often enough to be familiar with the attacks. However practicing does work and they improve- even the weird Mesmer stuff and the memories 16 more abilities elementalist trident. By the way… sharing the one underwater weap issue of the Rev. The only one I don’t “get” at all is the dang Engineer… Grenade kit works better… heck elixir gun works better then the harpoon gun…. Oh also limited to harpoon gun but kit’s nullify that. Oh my! It occurs I haven’t tried the new elite mortar underwater….
There are some places to “swim” in HoT but not much in the way of combat underwater. I did find some underground watery tunnels in HoT.
Yes indeed- with actual foes and a crazy piranha effect reminiscent of a certain fractal mechanic… It was in the Tangled Depths map. With that name- some underwater stuff would make sense…. I haven’t seen much of the map yet. Halloween stuff taking up time atm and our Guild went after the hall. Thankfully Ranger has good underwater capability and the fractal reminded me what they expected you to do with the exalted beacon/light things they leave at periodic spots where the Piranhas of death wait in the dark. I have no idea yet if there is anything important in the underwater cave as those beacons did not last long -forcing you to mad dash for the next. In all, there were the beacons and piranha mechanic effect -then later (3-4 beacons later) none of that remains. Safer swimming with just some basic easy kill regular and veteran skelks/jellyfish/gulper fish to deal with.. and the odd innocent neutral tuna.
I exited the cave into the exterior… I think. Maybe…. There were tree root’s there dunking into the water like overgrown mangroves and shallower water and that’s all I know. I promptly died to some unknown effect…
Yes unknown… Didn’t see an effect/debuff on me- Granted there wasn’t much time with the rapidly vanishing HP bar.
Perhaps there was another Exalted beacon nearby that I missed picking up and extra fast piranha? Anyway- couldn’t tell. The death… well- It was “that” fast. Maybe the area counted at Jungle bottom and Mordy got me? I could see a nearby poi but my toon didn’t “make it” to unlock it.
It was cool though to get a smidgen of underwater action in the expansion… just wish there had been something to do if import there. Maybe they meant to and didn’t finish? Maybe if I hadn’t died I’d have made it to that poi and unveiled a wp or something? IDK but I wont have that kind of exploration time again till next weekend. If anyone doe’s know what that final killing effect among the mangroves was- I’d love to know.
I get “Network error .”
What do?
Hope they’re working on it or rolling back last patch. Something. Completely unplayable atm. On teamspeak with guildmembers. Nobody can get farther then the Character Select screen.
The toons just don’t load into their respective maps.
2 rangers. 2 mesmers. 1 of everything else. Now a Rev. Do you think I found the thought of grinding 400 for each at all enticing?
Do you now? Truly, honestly think that THAT would have been acceptable?
1 toon sure… No problem. 2 okay… 3 pushing my patience. 4 and up?!? Whelp I guess I’m not even trying to do those.
Now do you see why 400 is not… I REPEAT NOT acceptable in this game of alts and play as you want?
They knew they had/have alt-aholic players. They SELL alt slots. 400 is not proper for us. Sorry if this is somehow a surprise for you. Even if I did not work- I simply do not see how I could unlock all of it on all toons in any reasonable time frame.
Think on that if you please.
Thank you.
The naysayers are allowed their opinions of course. I believe them to be full of kitten though. I happen to have 2 Ranger, 2 Mesmers, and one of everything else. They can stick their demands for a return to the previous number of hero points per toon up their collective elitist kittens and rotate on them.
Don’t care if I get an infraction for the above comment either.
Hello, my name is Heather…
And I am an Alt-aholic.
PS: Do not envy the Forum Mod that will have to merge all these threads. Good luck Gaile…. or whoever.
Thanks for the info. So can you get as many bags as you want from the candy corn or just one per account or one per character?
You could kit out all toons and all their bag slots. No Trick – all treat!
May the Six Gods speed you to recovery.
About the only thing I can suggest is take friend or guild mate with you so that if you loose connection- hopefully your place will be saved like in dungeons or one’s actually populated ‘Stands a chance’ Tequatle map. Although I don’t know if the game would boot them from the instance with the owner gone like it does when a player who owns a personal story leaves a personal story instance and the other players are forced out…
My guild came with me when I did mine- however the dreaded disconnect occurred to two of the helpers… Not me. Yes they reappeared- no problem…. But would the instance owner vanishing have spelled disaster?
Hmmm…
Checkpoints would certainly be nice though.
Pardon accidental double post. Being “that long” lol we really didn’t need doubles. ;p
Anet please add a remove from list button on your followers list. It would save me from having to block people.
Tifa while I agree that the system needs either a confirm friend/follow and or a delete follower option- I am at this moment more concerned with your gaming experience.
You have by accident or design cut yourself off from -it sounds like a LOT of people by your description. I cannot ‘order’ you to do repair condition, nor force…. Nobody can. But I strongly and pleadingly suggest it.
By doing what you have done you have shortened your playerbase list in a social game that often requires grouping or at least being able to ‘See’ the map chat.
One and obvious- the game will never group you with these people via LFG like… EVER. So there…. one thing you have ham-stringed yourself from players teaming up for content with you and you with them in a game that often wants and sometimes demands that we group up.
Number one is regrettable and annoying but since there are so very many players you might not ‘feel’ that one until your growing block list reaches massive proportions… Forgive me but with the attitude I have read so far…. It might.
Number 2: The bigger problem actually…. The great big steaming pile of ‘something’ you might not realize your doing to yourself.
There may be individuals that are trying to help or guide people to ‘the next event via poi and WP links in map or ’Say’ chat. Halloween is coming up and it itself includes event’s that pop on the maps in varied locations and if you shout out in map chat…
You: “Events?”
But the only person who replies is a folower. Let’s say it’s some poor smuck who ran a dungeon with you- thought you were cool and after you logged out he/she Facepalmed him/herself an realised they needed to add you…. However, you later blocked them when you saw the ‘Follow’… despite the fact that you played the other day and had fun and did not consider them a stalker but forgot the name or just never knew the account name- only the character….
Then because you have blocked that person. Not only do you NOT see them say
Ser Blocked: (map chat) Yes Random- or very important(it’s the daily) Eventname in 5 min at [incert poi here].
Nor will you see…
Ser Blocked: (Personal Message) Oh hey hello there! Glad to see you again. We ran that dungeon the other night and rocked it. I added you to friends list. Hope you don’t mind. If you do message once and I’ll remove. Didn’t know you were on- sometimes I wish this thing came with an alert like other games but it’s ok. I often don’t look at it but it was nice to see your character. Need help holler. Cheers!
Nor will you see if this person is the main person or sometimes ONLY person organizing a map for a big event like Tequatle, Triple Trouble or whatever crazy new stuff the expansion throws our way. I know for a FACT during Beta Weekend that I would have missed Wyvern if the nice person guiding us along had been on my BLOCKED list.
Now the blocked list is important. So important that I don’t even put proven annoying players on there unless under extreme single circumstances…
My blocked list includes gold sellers and the mail scammers. Who also get reported.
The only other ones are the long term annoying leech types or the one timer crazy stalkers. For example some jerk that really did stalk me across a map making disgusting and frankly creepy small talk. Even that went off the list a month ago. These people though I don’t ‘Keep’ on block though- for all I know it was some person’s goofy little brother on account being a dweeb. Thus the person went off block two weeks after the incident. Have not heard from them since at any rate. However if I ever had a criminal, predatory or repeat inappropriate stalker yes… they would stay on the block list. Hasn’t been necessary yet thankfully.
I am sure there are very real cases of stalking and in such cases blocking for forever is totally warranted. I would hope one reports them too.
At any rate using block to block people that have simply used the current friend system as it “currently” exists to “friend/follow” you seems… Pardon me… overtly heavy handed. Game-wise IS without a doubt more crippling then you may have yet realised. Or perhaps you do realise but don’t care? I cannot know your mind. Only make suggestions from my own.
I hope I can bring you over to a more moderate treatment of that followers list. I do agree the current system needs tweeks. Someone who is actually blocked (hopefully though regrettably for valid reasons) should absolutely not be able to know under any conditions that your in game. If I had my druthers such folk wouldn’t even be able to see your avatar on map. However we have what we have… Till they change it.
People… probably 99.99% of them- maybe even 100% of them added you cause they liked how you played or how helpful you were. The chances of a real stalker are slim. The short term ones… I block for a week then unblock… Dunno if that appeals to you or not but it’s served me well.
These folks caught in your blanket Blocking- are these really people worthy of a “Block”? Keeping in mind in this game it means almost utter exclusion and zero communication.
Anyway- enjoy your game….
Take care- whatever you decide.
Still waiting for this….
It need not be any faster then the current 3 “not quite mounts” but dang anet… you had the voice actors back for a time… I sure hope the often requested Monty Python and the Holy Grail style Coconut sound fx mount is being pre’d for the gem store for xmas.
Actually we already have a skrit with a giant backpack as a transformation item… just tweek it a bit for a coconut halves clacking npc version. So feel free to use that and make it take up the mini pet space the character is allotted…

Technically we already have “whack a mole” you just have to go to the heart that has it. However yes and an even bigger YES PLEASE! from me for fishing.
I just don’t want anything in them that’s purchasable in the game world. The booster transmuting powder and Guild thing…. And absolutely nothing that binds on pick up. No more pets and mail carriers we already have- or if we do let them go to the market or mystic forge.
Those two changes/rules are not a lot to ask for. (sigh)
This needs fixing big time. I’m talking the box contents kitten many others have said.
ANET!!! What the kitten is this kittining kitten blarghgrrrrr Kitten Account bound garbage even doing in my BL Boxes?!?!
I bought the 3 bird minipack (owl/raven/hawk) as a single package as a set. AS A SET. All three with gems bought with real Canadian dollars- back when our dollar wasn’t kitten either!
Why in the name of the Great Ooogly Moogly do you think it’s fine to put those Account bound things in the BL boxes I’m opening? Is it a hold over from before the wardrobe/pet system? Do you Realize your Mail Carriers are doing the same thing? I don’t know what else pops out account bound but it’s got to stop.
GET RID OF THEM please or make them trade-able or usable in the Mystic Forge as others have suggested. Although I would one up that and ask they be considered by the forge as a standard rare quality item. I don’t even care if it counts as clothing/jewelry verses a weap -to prevent use for precursor weapons. Just “Anything” is better then their current state.
I’m not kidding- I would prefer not to have to hold on to 1-3 of these while I wait for a 4th to pop from a box as the massive disappointments they are. So considering each as a Forgeable “accessory/ring/amulet” classification even would be nice. Something! Anything….
And the dust… The transmute dust we can buy from the npc next to every major city’s bank as we actually need it…. WHY!!??? WHY would you even put this in?…..
WHY in the name of all 6 gods?!?
Alright I’m done for now….
I usually key-farmed once a week anyway but dang…. I bought a couple of Dwayna skins right now for what I could afford in gold cause I know where this is going. Straight to Skin market HE double hockeystix.
What part of the game is this about? Since it says new players maybe leveling and open world?
In that case I recently started playing engineer and I find it really easy. You just put down a few towers and wait for the hearts to finish themselves. No skill required.
As for elementalist: Once you have the glyph of elementals, leveling becomes a lot easyer.
I know that you won’t be playing these builds once you hit lvl 80 and get some gear, but for the leveling-phase they provide a both efficient and forgiving playstyle.
Well said.
Although I placed them at Medium myself as relying on just those turrets after you leave your first zone might wind up being trickier and time consuming in set up/repair/replacement. I recommend you try swapping between Elixir gun- Flame thrower- 3rd slot flip out elixir of your choice as scenario later demand- possible need of thumper or net turret for control. It’s also a very quick way to cross all maps save wvw where the trait that grants your speed buff on kit swaps. That’s right 100% up time for go faster!
Oddly disabled trait in wvw but active in pvp and pve… So there is something very specific to wvw maps where they don’t want Engineers having 100% speed buff time.
I get the feeling a lot of you are basing your thoughts off a player playing to 20 tops for difficulty/challenge first zone and half another one and maybe some light unrated pvp.
Honestly wish they’d bring the champ mobs back to the first zone or throw in some annoying silvers….
*Headshake… They have made the first 4 zones… much much too easy. We need to learn to dodge there… and not dodging to a single chest though a hoop.
And thanks Bedlin. However the fist 20 levels are not the be all and end all of this game. We have a duty to let new players know all we can. Especially since they only have 2 toon slots… 5 if they paid for it.
(edited by Roguedemonhunter.9621)
Lol. If Rangers are “Easy” pvp then where is the representation in championship and competitive play?
You guys/gals saying Rangers are easy are clearly only considering easy open world pve mobs that don’t have decent trick/high armor or players that don’t dodge.
Mob types that don’t have challenging mechanics like the Orian Subjugators or Vetran Karka do are easy for ALL the classes, it’s just readily apparent on the Ranger with a pet that is 30% of it’s damage. Mind you Ranger is one of the classes you can do Karka real slow with but not as well as the Mesmer. I steal your buffs Karka and make them my own hahahaah. Ahem.
Pets still die too kitten fast when facing high end mobs- and by high end mobs I mean anything that it’s mind numbingly easy.
Oh well whatever all. ;p lol
If your posting and insisting the Ranger is OP when people who play them late game know better and this somehow get’s an inordinate number of new players rolling one so we can actually see some buffs to them in the game modes that matter like high end PVP and Dungeons, Fractals and the new Raids- That’ll be a good thing.
And don’t bull-kitten the crew here that the Meta for such things wont still be Warrior/Elementalist/Gaurdain and multiples thereof.
Whoah Whoah Whoah!
Guys the ranger cannot afk and live if anything “actually dangerous” is about to re-spawn or appear via event where they are standing. I’ve come back to dead Rangers lots… Just unfortunate placement.
I’ve come back to a dead Ranger many times…. and a hilariously alive Ranger with bodies of standard-NOT difficult mobs nearby.
Do not in your sarcasm of game mechanics give new players reading this false beliefs of the Ranger’s AFK Mighty powers please.
Please keep in mind that that pet has it’s own AI and will react to mobs attacking itself or the Ranger. This is automatic and expected unless you place Fido on passive. Necro pets can demolish normal mobs that dare to be cheeky too as can Engineer turrets. So this is not Ranger specific. Some pets are also much more capable of this then others.
As to this phenomenon… Since the pet is “supposed to” represent a full 30% of the Ranger’s damage then yes!… I bloody well expect to return from going to the loo or grabbing a sandwich and find anything that isn’t a veteran or elite that dared to tickle my Ranger while I was away -dead at my feet.
30% of my Ranger toon’s damage!?!…. Heck! I also expect Fido to have my slippers and the local newspaper held gently in his muzzle.
PS: Don’t try to spread falsehoods about difficulty when playing “the actual game”- not botting or afking near weak kitten mob respawn point. Not with me watching sir or ma’m… Not with a player who has actually played ALL the proffession types is paying attention to the thread.
I don’t know…. GW2 classes can’t really be thought of this way. 3 dif game modes multiple dif game types and team req in PVE. Very nice of you to call Ranger’s easy when in certain PVE modes they’re the hardest thing to use…. or be welcome to a dungeon group even. Necro’s apparently have that side of PvE even worse.
My personal list would be horribly honest and much to wordy….
Horribly wordy list—————- with notes!
Faceroll Easy Class: Solo Guardian, Warrior (were you joking with Guard?) Ranger in exterior world PVE once you know what your doing and have a stable of pet types…
Moderate Class: Necromancer, Engineer, Guardian -while protecting other people. Ranger when your fresh.
Finesse Class: Thief, Elementalist, Mesmer, Ranger… when your ranger is trying to function in a dungeon. Thief- when your low HP thief is trying to melee a dungeon boss that can one shot you.
*Faceroll easy classes become moderate play once you bother reading the abilities and try helping team/others with them.
*Moderate classes start moderate but get easy. Ranger finds extra pets with different statistics and abilities- it’s weaponry often requires reading as do it’s various pets- you must learn to swap pets. The pet’s are stupid- you have few ways of buffing other players with DAMAGE. Stingy/elitest groups may kick you from dungeon runs. Engineers must read much and learn a great deal of gimmickry potions and the use weapon kits and or stationary turrets- Hot may or may not see mobile ones additionally to their standard weapons. Necromances can be face-rolled solo but Necros are self absorbed for the most part -see Ranger above- only more-so and stingy /elitist groups may shun you in preference to a might stacking elementalist or warrior…
*Finesse Classes (start hardier- become easier over time or if you simply take a moment to read how their abilities work- then two of them are darn op- oddly it’s the cloth armor wearers. Who knew?) Thief pops up to Moderate once you know what your doing. The cloth wearer’s might as well pop up to faceroll easy once you have an inkling how they work.

Yeah… I hear you. Though I did have 460 at the end of last night (haven’t spent them yet) and so I’m set for whatever potion I want…. Then 55 from mail. However from map messages stating/claming numbers up to 85 blooms in the mail from others though I guess I was kinda mid-low range.
This kinda stinks… a little. I don’t care- for myself- as such. I have the numbers needed.
However it would have been nice to be rewarded equally for that first day. Think on it. No information from the dev’s themselves about how you were supposed to FARM via tagging to 20 events… and nothing from other sources till later one. Not cool. I showed up and even tried taking the screen-caps you guys wanted in that mess. Found a dev and tried to stick to him/her so you’d have some good shots. Trust me nobody was standing around for posing. I have no “good” shots.
I know you guys/gals put work in data-mining numbers but really anyone that showed up at all in good faith that first day should be getting daily credit for all three events at max reward capacity. Including the missed daily boxes.
I have no clue- after all this- why you would be AT ALL or IN THE SLIGHTEST BIT STINGY in the “Oh whoops- Okay fair enough- Sorry that was kinda a bad event structure/reward system. Here you go! Lets make this all better by recognizing you were there and tried.” moment of glory in the aftermath of dismal grind.
Peace out. Keep trying.

Very bad form to do at a chest. Shame on you all.
They got me with this once -and only once -and I’m quite sure that my precursor would have been inside. (*scowls) Either that or that one time in wvw a steel chest popped from a random player but I had been in motion and could not quite get back and died beside it- only to run across entire map to find it long gone.
Anyway… that was inevitable… This is preventable.
Always stop to read before you click or hit F especially if you see some “mestard” doing this. The pink glow and sound fx of portal are unmistakable.
I have never misused either of my mesmer’s anywhere near a reward chest.
If you think this is amusing when there are literally folk running around in the game who have been playing since the start and rng has not yet favored them with a awesome precursor or straight up legendary drop from random boxes or reward chests then I believe there is something wrong with you…
And please think- It is exactly these sort of shenanigans that take a cool power – useful- fast- seemless ability and get it nerfed to kitten and back by developers.
It happened to City of Heroes Telleportation abilities shortly after that went f2p… cause that’s when the slight abuse of years before went positively rampant…
How would you like your portals to only work for teamates? Or only for players who click yes to a 2nd confirmation click to use the portal? Or only for teamates who click yes to 2nd confirmation to use the portal? Boy! What fun that would be…
In short- stop abusing it- we may loose it.

Guild emblem displaying Electric Guitar.
Monty Phython and the Holy Grail inspired Coconut shells (witches broom grade) mount.
Are Ranger/Necro and Rune/Sigil and inventory pet kit pets (ogre pet whistle for example) spawned pets going to benefit from the new AI? :o
Augh… this is a pet peeve. Earned in game keys -so much luck and or work- and have outright bought lots of gem-cards and yes- foolishly spent said gems on BL keys.
Only to have to delete so much trash.
Account bound ANYTTHING in these chests Dev’s… (*headshake)…. is… Just so…
I can’t even tell you in words worthy of just how disappointing this is but I will try.
It is insulting- so extraordinary, unfathomable and an utterly unnecessary slap in the face to your players these things are.
Peace out.
PS: Still luv you guys/gals… but this…. HORRIBLE wrongheaded. Awful.

…
I have decided to play a bit more. I’m giving it until about lvl 20 to really decide whether it’s the game for me. I just can’t see GW2 getting so many incredible reviews my respected reviewers and it being a crappy game, like Angry Joe for example (he is brutally scrutanizing in his reviews).
From the suggestions, I think I’ve decided to go ahead and try Elementalist and Mesmer next, just to get a feel.
What I REALLY need is some kind of expanded tutorial that goes into detail about what character stats, item stats and all that jazz really mean. I still have no idea what “dazed” means (I’m assuming it’s an interrupt), and things of that nature. I’m a DoTA2, Dragon Age, Baldurs Gate, etc. old-school RPG player, so maximizing builds and digging deep into complex games is fun to me.
First rule of learning the inner mechanic: /wiki daze
The wiki gives you most of the information you need. And you can use it ingame with the /wiki command to launch the browser, this is also very convenient if you have 2 monitors so you can keep the wiki on the other screen.
For stats, and considering what you seemed to prefer in your other thread, you should probably go full damage and enjoy the higher risk to get beaten to death. For starting levels 1-20 that means grab anything that has +power and some +precision. And if you want some, +condition damage.
I’d say stick to thief, it is a very squishy class to begin with, that is very dependent upon your mastery of active defenses, as it has near no passive ones. You will be at a disadvantage against larger numbers of enemies, until you start making proper use of stealth and all your class abilities. It is one of those classes you actually can feel that you’re learning something in PvE.
For example Warrior is fast, deals lots of damage, has uses in all game modes and is wanted in solo and groups, in pvp and wvw etc. But it is also a very easy class to learn, so you probably would get bored of it quickly.
Elementalist and Engineer are probably the two classes with the highest skill ceiling if that interests you.
Also, go PvP.
Quite right! PvP lobby even if you don’t enter combat will give you a sneak peak at all the abilities of each class. There are even npc targets and bots. However testing them in game will show you more.
For example -unless this has been changed recently- did you know that the Engineer trait that makes your run faster and activate a themed ability just for activating a kit though it may work in pve and pvp for some strange choice of our dev’s doesn’t work at all the same in wvw?…. It doesn’t include the speed.
There are most certainly other things- and of course pvp ignores your own gear and makes you select from runes/sigils and a ‘necklace’ that makes up for the lack of armor stats.
Regardless other then reading wiki guides (which is also good) this is the best in game way to get a sneak peek at your toon’s abilities late game.
Bravo. Good suggestion.
On any class- while leveling PVE (though not dungeons as your downed too often to get good use out of it) make sure you always have a “Sigil of Bloodlust” in your weapons. Just one- the buff it creates doesn’t stack farther then 25 stacks. If you don’t want it to vanish underwater make sure water weaps have at one too. This tip will help you feel more confident until you get gear that has more then one or two stats on it.
I also recommend Sigil’s of speed while still world completing unless your a class that can keep near 30% plus speed up all the time anyway. I don’t know why the green ones are so expensive as the max time you can get is about a minute- and the number of mobs needed to support that total is very high- but they do speed you along -though cost actual “silver” and may be pricy for a starter player to keep up on gear. All of the sigils are cheap in their “yellow” stage and some pop right up when they hit.
The high damage of bloodlust and the speed/elusiveness created by using these two sigil’s together will give you a very “roguish feel” in nearly anything.
Later and for dungeons/fractals/wvw/pvp you may want to go with some chance on crit, chance on hit or weapon swap based buffers/damage sigils instead as the ones that “stack to 25” resets to zero and must be ‘built up’ again after zoning or downing or dying. This makes the “Stacks to 25” stuff impractical in those scenarios- unless you are really really good and or lucky…
For Roguish feel character/rp wise I would suggest Thief, Ranger. Mesmer, Ele too if you don’t mind flashy fx for your “rogue”- a sort of magician rogue.
Read Sigils and Runes very carefully. Make sure your getting the best bang for your buck. If you don’t crit much -for example- a “chance on crit” sigil may not be that particular character’s ideal thing. Some of this stuff gets very expensive once your into the “orange” superior classification. A few oddball ones are expensive at any level range- like that one that takes one of your own conditions and tosses it to your foe. Maybe – if you hit 80 and your broke after gearing up -a class with a very fast recharging heal might do very well with the el cheapo “Might buff on heal” Altruism rune set. Or rune of the Ogre for the really neat pet (but not on your dungeon armor- you cant control that thing at all) Look at the cheap options if you cant quite afford a full set of Holbrek’s yet? Cause something in slot is better then nothing in slot.
Just fiddle around with options- you can make nearly anything with Class + class ability and sigil combos and rune buffs/abilities.
Most importantly- Have fun, enjoy and welcome.

Uh…. how are wings ugly?….. look at this in all of its majesty. You put twilight in this things hands and it’s straight up fallen angel reaper deliciousness
Because it takes exceptional costume choices to make them work this well I guess. Many people just slap them on anything. Good work though.
I literally can’t use my warhorns… ;p Somebody cut the cheese.
When the black wings came out they were stiffer and if not flapping like wings at least they pretended to be wings- halfway at rest.
When the white wings came out- both were suddenly redesigned to be floppy wing “capes”. Sadly without being properly redesigned to sit on the shoulders and hang or drape down- like a cape.
The only race they’re properly sized for as a “wing cape”/costume extension is Asura. They work alright on them. Not great -but ok. Passable.
For all the rest they are now far too big to be their floppy selves. They are most certainly NOT wings anymore.
They are floppy capes- horribly placed and draping badly while being far too oversized on all but one race. Which is sad cause they have an excellent “feathered cloth” appearance to them which could be quite graceful and wonderful costume addition.
I do miss the City of Heroes wings too. But if we cant actually fly and your not going to set them draping from the shoulders and DOWN as a feathered cape thenperhaps just redo them as glider wings- with those who have already shelled out gems for them getting those glider “wings” grandfathered to them?
And yes I got both to support. I do not “display” either of them atm in their current condition.
Peace out
We shouldn’t have to be doing anything more then any other player in that map. This is exactly the sort of damage that should be tagged- by a tag recognizable by ranger and necro pets as simply not existing. It’s not in the slightest bit fair that something that is supposed to represent a % of our damage thus making our damage numbers lowers without it on average is still being damaged by this crud at all- they should be as immune to one-shot boss mechanics as the weapons held by the other classes.
In other words- if you the player have moved your toon out of harms way for these special effect kills- then the pet should be too.
Recall should at the very least stow the pet for the time that the effect is happening.
Is it any surprise Wilderness Survival rates so high? Apart from Healing spring (traited or not)- this line is now is where 9/10ths of our condi cleanse is…. and only in this trait line.
Kinda forces you to pick that one.
If you get injured a lot, you’re not a good player.

In seriousness, if you’re not just 100% fully trolling like I suspect you are, then you need to learn the difference between mechanics and story.
Because honestly, our PC can walk away from kitten that would make Superman cry.
my point is i hate Trahearne…
if he really WAS wounded. he could have given me that freakin sword.i wish tybalt had lived and trahearne died……but no. i get stuck with the bad character and watch an epic character go down epicly, but not epic enough for the difference in epic between him and trahearne.
Oh trust me- you don’t want to ever have your own abilities shut down and have that clunky sword’s powers replace your own. As a sylvari player that had the misfortune to have to use it for an entire fight…. ICKY bad combat mechanics.
Honestly I liked Trahearne best when he’s being awesome Necromancer guy. His helpfulness in the little combat he sees afterward just blows- and I fully blame that awkward as heck sword 1 through 5 skill-set.
The blade “Saladbowl” ;p is Terrible!
Peace out
They have the player character voice actors back for HoT!
NOW is the time for Monty Python and the Holy Grail style coconut shells in the gem store!
Sylvari male: "Steady old friend… " Clip clop… clip clop….“Easy now…”
*someone casts speed buff nearby
Sylvari Male: “At a Gallop!” *Faster-Clip clop- clip clop- clip clop!"
We would literally throw money at you Anet.
With the trait you can easily leave 3 HS on the ground and get about a minute of regen from them.
Yeah. Most I was able to have out is 4. Wanted 5 to make the Olympics logo.
Nice… but careful where and if you post the thing if you do it. Olympic’s have that trademarked up the whazoo.
:( And I think they’re not big on sharing.
This is for weapon and armor currently – weapons use the same recipe as armor to stat change except they use inscriptions to allow you to change instead of insignias.
Alas yes it does destroy the runes and sigils in the item, the mystic forge doesn’t currently have a way to allow us to do this kind of stat changing without it working that way.
Also: Shout out to Matt P and Linsey who did all the hard work to make this possible
Might we beg of you then to please massively reduce the gem cost of the single use extractors and or revamp them to provide multiple charges like a BL Salvage kit?
Thanks for the thought though and good work M and L on stat changing option.
You want a daily that took skill? How about one that trained us too- or added to social play.
I would like the dailies that could be done anywhere back and promoted these aspects.
Please bring back
Daily Reviver
and
Daily Dodger
Please offer Medic and Artful Dodger as titles upon completing these 100 times each.
;)
OMG… and Daily Ambient killer. That one was hilarious.

Why isn’t anything being named after me? I’m the kitten Commander of the Pact! I and my group are the ones who defeated Scarlet! Where’s my recognition from this ungrateful city?
I agree. There should be something for the player character.
How about a prominent street name? In one of the outlying communities of my home city is a small seaside township. One of their streets is called “Captain’s Walk”.
Which one has to admit… is pretty darn charming.
So how about a
“Commander’s Walk” somewhere?
- Hang on. If your making a ‘bridge-way’ to Claw Island… Ooo yes…. That would be an awesome spot. If not… anywhere then.

As someone who has full ascended on at least 1 character it is insignificant. I just finally finished full ascended on my power/crit mesmer. I can’t even tell a difference. When I played Rift or WOW and got a upgrade it was noticeable for sure. Even a single socketed gem in Rift could make my crits hit significantly harder. Not so much in GW2.
Full ascended Jewelry with exotic armor and weapons puts you on par with anyone in full ascended in my opinion. Ascended jewelry is easy enough to get. Ascended armor could use a crafting buff. Way too expensive imo.
Too much silk needed I think… Most of the rest is bearable.

All imply protecting people still but can be done from behind the lines with support effects and long range.
None of it needs to imply big game hunting at all which I’m surprised isn’t ticking off more ranger players. That big game hunter-ish like name or of any sort similar to it strays too far away from – The noble protector using holy/light magic to save/protect people.
Oh yes… and Dragon Hunter sort of implies nobody else is bothering with the dragons or that a DH Gaurd will show up at your destroyer plagued village but promptly leave – with their condolences and apologies of course- as there are sadly no Dragons to fight. It is also so specific and so corny a profession name that for comparison’s sake…. it’s Druid counterpart would have to be…
Nature Lover.
And… yes I know my forum name makes this statement carry even more ironic whimsy.
But that’s a forum name for one person… not a profession name meant for many.

Argo’s 5 min grace period is not a bad idea…..
I love sword and torch and sword and horn… I hear dagger is fun too. The trick with the sword sadly is practice practice and carry and axe too for those times when the environment will punish you for using sword.
I’ve read some of the suggested and there seems to be an even split of people who like the auto- quirky- jerky ranger sword and those that wish it functioned more like the warrior’s, gaurd’s or mes’s.
Good hunting.
You lost me at “Experienced players only” in your message to those joining up. Sorry but I’m the eternal noob as I dungeon seldom enough I have very little auto memorized and the “We insist you have it all memorized” gang have me so disenchanted with going in that… I seldom go. Though I will do my best to obey and stick to plan if given a plan and idea of what’s happening.
Also hate skippin’ crap… I wanna kill it all. ;p
But that’s another thing. I wont if I’m told not to. That trash mob could drop a precursor… You never know.
Anyway…
If you had advertised “Help any heavies- we will handhold new folk.” You might have gotten eager beavers ready for their first try or another try that would have stuck by through with you through thick and thin till it was done… and then been grateful enough for it afterward to tip.
I have 2 rules to tippin in this game. Jump puzzles and diving goggles… Tip your mesmer. Dungeons… Tip your leader… or whatever poor slob died the most so he/she can repair. Usually this is sent back… but sometimes kept. At all times I assume it makes the person feel good.
You had a bad experience. It happens… it happens more… much more in other games. Honestly.
Hope you next run is more fun and avoids thoughtless players.
As to the system. It’s all Anet can do I guess. The fairest possible….
However they might try programming that newcomers to a party should not be able to instigate a “kick” vote for at least a half hour. They can vote on one but not start one.
That would be reasonable. If it’s possible to program….
My two coppers. Happy hunting all.
As well as the standard fly-catch animation of their cousins… I would adore it if one of their idle animations were in fact an eye-lick.
I would like to see the developers kermit to this endeavor…
