I did not know that; thank you for this clarification.
But part of my argument can still be valid: Why force a player to use a level 80 that they got bored with, if they have only one level 80 and would rather level a new character, and finish their daily while on it?
The announcement for the new daily system made it sound like it’s a better system, and will make it easier for players to get achievement points and so. But look at today’s dailies; if you scrutinize the list of available options, you’ll realize that the only options that are remotely friendly to newer players are: Daily Shiverpeaks Miner, Daily Fields of Ruin events completer (maybe if they are high enough!), and…that’s about it when it comes to PvE!
Newer players can’t really craft an exotic just yet or run a fractal. And I’m not aware that the game caters only for PvP players, or intends to force PvP participation on them; but all the other ways to get the Daily completionist today are PvP ways.
The older daily system was much more newbie-friendly; you just had to kill a number of mobs, any mobs and anywhere, or get a variety of them, complete events anywhere, salvage a number of items, and so on. It was actually easier that way, and more newbie-friendly. The new system could be easier, but only for a certain type of player who has access to certain levels of maps, content, and resources (exotic materials and high enough crafting level).
Maybe some rabid fans will respond saying how “super easy” it is to craft an exotic or do this or do that, but I’m sure that any objective person who sits down and analyzes the current options, at least today’s options, will realize how very newbie-unfriendly they are.
I hope that these remarks can convince some developers and decision makers to revise the way they’re going about picking the types of dailies we get nowadays. I’m not a new player, but I’m finding it difficult now to have a family member or friend feel like their dailies are accessible for them being new players; we should be enjoying doing dailies together, even when one partner is a veteran and the other is a new comer who should feel welcome.
I would like number 11, please! =)
Thank you very much, Rose of Gilead. This is a very informative answer.
There may not be an ultimate “best” way and it could be a matter of preferences and quantities available, yes, but specifically for someone who is trying to be efficient and perhaps a bit wise about spending the different game currencies, and do a lot of things in the game, including level up crafting and craft ascended stuff, and considering that there are sometimes several ways of spending one type of currency, what are the wisest ways of spending the most common currencies, like Karma, Laurels, Fractal Relics, Badges of Honor, Mystic Forge Stones, and Mystic Coins?
For example, Obsidian Shards can be bought with Fractal Relics, Laurels, Karma, and other currencies; so is the most efficient way of buying them spending Karma, because Laurels are better off being spent on something else (recipes?) and Fractal Relics are better off spent on Agony resistance & ascended accessories?
I’ve done a bit of research and looking around, but would appreciate some wisdom from more experienced players.
So much…I’m not sure what to call it, trolling or “fun policing”? Is there some covert agenda going on where some players try to subtly enforce the dogma that GW2 has zero grinding? Let’s be real: the game does cater for certain achievements that can be very time-consuming and probably require grinding for certain materials or resources for those who are not loaded with gold or RL money. Accordingly, it is completely legitimate and fine to ask and research ways of doing certain aspects of grinding faster. And the main reason the OP mentioned fun is that the broken record on everyone’s tongue when asked how to save time in the game doing this or that is…lo and behold, “just have fun”. Why can I not have fun and learn how to save time grinding for certain achievements? Oh, I actually can.
To elaborate, I’m hoping that the fellow players who try to answer my question would also consider some of the less known ways of buffing allies, like Guardian’s Battle Presence and Strength in Numbers (linked so try clicking).
Which Guild Wars 2 top three professions (and their general builds / weapons) have the best potential for passive or periodically automated party-wide buffs?
Please note that I do indeed consider buffs generated by any auto-attack (Weapon Skill 1), like the Mesmer Staff auto-attack, as valid buffs that would answer my question.
When I say “buffs”, I mean Boons or something else, like Auras, Signets, or Virtues, which can be made to affect allies or party members somehow (perhaps with traits). And when I say passive or periodically automated, I mean buffs that the player does not need to remember to initiate themselves, but are always “on” or periodically—and usually randomly—generated (like some Mesmer boons).
The Guardian might be the first educated guess, and Mesmer with staff might be a close second—or even first, but I want to make sure I’m getting more accurate answers from experienced and learned players.
Thanks to anyone taking the time to share tips and answers.
Brother Grimm, thank you for the information and tips you provided. It took me some time to get back on my Thief character, and really test out some of the things you mentioned, especially the Sword-Pistol setup. Actually, Pistol Whip is fast becoming my favorite Thief attack, for a combination of enhancing survivability by interrupting (and interrupting that repeatedly is much cooler and more efficient than evasion) and very high damage; so I definitely thank you for bringing that setup to my attention, which I was not aware of, being new to the Thief profession.
I doubt that I’ll be doing much Dagger-Dagger playing any time soon, because I’m still leveling and playing solo, so Sword-Pistol plus Short Bow sounds like the best way to run until I start doing dungeons with others.
An old thread, but I thought I’d share some feedback after all the changes: this is currently my Champion Soloing ranger build

And this is the page where I have some notes and reasoning on the build:

I really have no idea what the big deal with Tengu is! I don’t find Tengu half as interesting as Skritt are. Backstory? Who the heck cares about a back story among the player base? A minority. The majority of players care more about effects, animations, voiced comments, and so on; and in these departments, Skritt win hands down. Tengu is also one of the races that have incompatible voices with how they look, just like Asuras; both have voices that should belong to much bigger and bulkier races. I love Asura voice acting; comments like “Help…I don’t have long!” and “Why won’t anyone help me?” and “Accelerating!”; but their tone have absolutely nothing to do with the looks of the Asuras. On the other hand, Skritts were perfectly done; their voices match their looks and sizes, and their movements match their personalities; they’re a race ripe for being controlled by players.
As for the intelligence issue, it is a lot, lot easier to resolve, within the lore, than anyone can imagine; quick examples without group brainstorming or deep thinking include portable communication devices made by Asura and carried by all Skritts that come from the specific Skritt town where the players would start, which allow those specific Skritt to remotely communicate with each other as a silent, passive thing; or a result from an Asura experiment; and so on.
I have actually heard in-game chatter about this before, and people would share their wish quite passionately, so I think I’m far from alone when I say that I’d really love to see the Skritt as a playable race in a future expansion of Guild Wars 2, or—heck—dare I say, Guild Wars 3 whenever it is out.
Skritt are one of the most interesting, funny, “cool”, organized, and fast-paced races in the world of GW2; and these aspects or features of a race collectively make up a remarkably appealing “way of being” for a big group of players out there, I believe. “Yes, yes?” =)
That is a very useful tip; thank you. I just tried it to find one missing vista that my eyes failed to find for several minutes of scanning!
Vodcom, thank you for that tip; I do this sometimes for that purpose, but I’d rather not waste the Initiative on Heartseeker until the mob has lost more than 50% of their health. So I’m trying to find another solution to consistently narrow down the arc of DB.
Grimm, thank you for your input; but being a semi-squishy profession, how else do you evade a few attacks while simultaneously hurting more than one mob, especially when endurance is running low, if not being using Death Blossom?
I really like dual-wielding daggers on my thief, and prefer its effects and general feel more than Sword-Dagger style; however I also prefer the Sword-Dagger’s evasive maneuver, Flanking Strike, more than the Dagger-Dagger’s dual wield evasive skill, Death Blossom, because Flanking Strike keeps me on target, while Death Blossom seems to send me too far away from the mob that it breaks auto-attack altogether.
I’m not sure if Death Blossom’s arc being that wide is intentional, or I’m doing it in a slightly wrong way or what; but is there a way I can tigthen the arc of DB, so that I land right behind a mob and auto-attack keeps working without breaking? This would keep the “flow” of combat much smoother and more graceful for me, and allow me to truly enjoy dual-wielding daggers.
Thanks for anyone sharing tips and answers.
Thank you for the extra clarifications, Lazuli.
The guides on gw2crafts.net assume that I want to buy the inscriptions from the TP; however, since it did seem like the best currently available option, and it looked promising, I tried it, and I found out that following the guide does save me gold, by buying some of the inscriptions from the TP when I do not have their crafting materials.. So that works for me. Thank you.
There used to be a website that shows up at the top of Google whenever you search for something like “guild wars 2 leatherworking guide”, and that website had the guides that I liked the most, especially because the guide listed how many Refinements or refined materials you will need, so you can start with those, and not refine too much or too little. That website went down about a week ago or something, but I kept using its Google Cache versions, until it now does not show up at all in the first page of Google results.
The current guides are assumptive, almost elitist, mostly catering to those who are filthy rich and go buy all their craft leveling materials!
Can someone please help me by directing me to a resource with crafting guides that list the number of refinements needed, or remind me what the domain name was for the helpful guide resource that I mentioned?
I’m especially interested in leatherworking and huntsman guides currently.
Thank you.
Beautiful way of managing a guild; it is very compatible with what I am looking for, almost word for word. Perhaps I don’t even have to shop around anymore.
I tried to find a link for an application on your website, but couldn’t find it. If I can have a short chat in-game otherwise, please have someone try me as Rokright in-game.

I look forward to speaking with you.
I found this thread while researching Condition Damage for Rangers in GW2. The 2 reasons that got me interested in the idea are:
1. How the Short Bow skills would greatly benefit from Condition Damage in gear and traits; and
2. How outrageously cheaper green Ravaging gear is, than any other green gear in the Trade Post, for a leveling Ranger!
So even if a Ranger—or even I myself as a Ranger—at level 80 would start looking away from Condition Damage for whatever reason, it still makes perfect sense to me to stick to Condition Damage while leveling; and there’s just simply no argument good enough against this path at this point, considering how much gold I can save while leveling and not relying on hours invested to craft my own gear, but simply buying it all for low prices in a few minutes.
Thank you for trying to help.
I checked, and can confirm that I have no filters that would be interfering with this; I also bought a Mighty Green Inscription from the Trading Post, and it is not being recognized by the Discovery panel, as shown in the screenshots attached.
My character is a Weaponsmith at 104/150; can only make 3 level-15 spears: Resilient, Precise, and Healing, and only 3 level-20 (Master) spears: Moogooloo, Mighty, and Malign; has in his inventory: Bronze Spear Head, Large Green Haft, and Vial of Weak Blood; and can neither discover (in the discovery pane) nor craft any level-5 or 10 or 15 Mighty Bronze Spear
Unless I’m severely confused, this looks like a bug, right?
Rok.2963:
You should save the underhanded insults and self-righteous arrogance of comparing your “beliefs” with my or anyone else’s beliefs…
…and you believe in a process that happened billions of years ago and is supposedly happening now, but we can’t see it!
Religious AND hypocritical. Who would’ve thought?
Just trying to compete with you in your game, buddy. You practically invented it. =)
“Also calling it “Deity Sword” just doesn’t have the same ring to it.”
Exactly. Even the atheists know the emotional power of the very word “God”. That comment made me smile. Even when you don’t believe; you can still feel the power of what you say or write if you use “God” instead of “deity”. Irresistible, isn’t it? To make an impact, instead of being polite and politically correct. =)
And “censorship” is COMPLETELY irrelevant to this whole issue. Please educate yourself, learn to read, and avoid being a superficial person who parrots (or screams or exclaims) the most typical and easiest counter-arguments that others say right and left.
I never asked for “censorship”; I asked for more politically correct language and terminology: use “deity” instead of the lowercased “God”, and choose good fictional names for the things in your fictional world. Simple. And has nothing to do with censorship.
Please at least make an effort to appear educated when you comment on an educated person’s argument.
Thank you.
You should save the underhanded insults and self-righteous arrogance of comparing your “beliefs” with my or anyone else’s beliefs. You need to get down from your high & mighty chair of “you believe in fairy tales and I believe in science”, because at the end of the day, you should realize that we are both believers. It’s just that I believe in a deity, and you believe in a process that happened billions of years ago and is supposedly happening now, but we can’t see it!
If you don’t understand what I’m talking about, before asking me to show you God, please do show me your deity, Evolution. Or more precisely, your “answer to God”…evolution. Can you actually show me evolution, right in front of me in a lab or a video recorded it a lab? No, you can’t. And I can’t show you God either. But it doesn’t make you any smarter than me, or in a better position, to call God a “fictional character”, because until you can actually show my evolution in an indisputable way right in front of me, just like anyone can show you vaporization, electricity, or gravity in a lab, until you can do that, your supposed “scientific fact” is actually a “fictional scenario” for all I know.
You are a “believer” too, until you can SHOW me.
And no, I don’t want to look at fossils, on which you base your imagined conclusions; I don’t want to look at anything other than the actual so-called scientific process happening in front of me in a lab, just like any real scientist can show you some physics or chemistry in the lab.
Until then, please get down from your high and mighty chair of superiority, and the line I heard about 1001 times before, “you are a troll”. Why am I? Because you say so! Yeah, great counter-arguing there.
Not.
Now if you cared to read my OP properly, it already has all the counter-arguments to your old arguments, which I heard from the likes of you several times before. And don’t tell me to stop being offended or not; mind your own business when it comes to other people’s feelings and real-life religions. Really…try to make an effort of avoiding being the real troll.
Today, while playing in WvW, I read this exact line in /team chat: “they took god”.
Now, neither my real-life religious beliefs, nor anyone else’s for that matter, are anyone’s business. And being offended by the politically incorrect, wrong, or “in-vain” use of the word “God” definitely does not compare with the wrong use of any other random word like “apple” or whatever.
The lowercasing of the word “God” to focus on it being a “noun” like any noun—rather than also a “name” in the real word—is not appreciated to begin with; and I’ve been there and done that and had long etymological debates about this already. However, the pivotal point of such debates is always the practical, actual use of the word “God” in the real world, regardless to how you want to etymologically trace it or linguistically debate it. No matter what you say or argue with, the fact of the matter is: three major real-life religions use the word “God” as the name of the deity they worship; and nothing is going to change that, especially not any Hebrew, Aramaic, or Arabic names you flash to try and claim that that’s the name of the deity worshipped in the real world. For billions of English-speaking religious people, they just know “God”, and they don’t know Him by any other “name”; I hope that makes enough sense.
Now imagine how it feels for some of the more religious among them to read you writing or saying “a god” or “god this and god that”, in other words, using the name in vain. I assure you it isn’t a pleasant feeling.
You can call someone like me oversensitive or crazy or whatever as much as you want; I’m not writing all this from an emotional perspective so you can rightfully flash those subjective opinions about my person, or for any insults or mockery of my supposed feelings to be relevant for that matter.
With all that preparation for any hateful counter-arguments, to hopefully save the time for would-be responding people, I can simply make my important points:
1. The game is already following a cultural trend of disrespecting the real-life use of “God”, and lowercasing the word and misusing it, by disregarding the existence of the perfectly valid and much better alternative word “deity” when you want to refer to “a deity” or to “deities”. Some religious people are silent and giving a blind eye to this, as it is not just an issue with the writers in ArenaNet, but a cultural and media issue being pushed by many other companies, developers, and publishers. Please realize that some religious people are already being tolerant and patient, although it would’ve been much better to avoid any lowercase “god” and use “deity” instead.
2. The least you can do is to please avoid a name for a PvP spot, like “Godsword”, because we all know that with time, people tend to shorten such names, and it is extremely jarring, detrimental to immersion and fun, and offensive, when I am trying to have fun and play a game with religious folks and atheists alike, to be interrupted by a comment in public chat like “they took god”. And you can imagine the kinds of much worse comments that some immature atheists would love to come up with, just to purposefully hurt the feelings of religious players, then smirk with a sense of self-admiration and victory for practicing sociopathy against religious people, and hiding behind a farce of talking about “Godsword” camp.
3. If any developer or decision maker is reading, I’d like to let you know that using “deity” instead of the lowercased “God” would be very much appreciated. I love this game very much already, and love the sense of cooperation and team spirit and caring community that you are promoting with the very game mechanics; now I hope that you can extend all those lovely decisions to accommodate religious people who believe in God and love Him, and also love this game and are happy to play it with anyone regardless to religious beliefs. If you can show some respect, or at least politeness and consideration for our real-life beliefs, and change the way you write and name things in the game, I would have no complaints or problems at all with this lovely game.
Thank you.
A way to reduce the cooldown on skills like Windborne Speed, even if it means that I sacrifice something else to gain this cooldown reduction. Give me the option to sacrifice this for that; I hope this sounds fair enough.
Again, not sure if this is related, but if anyone on the thread is running nVidia graphics cards, can you check in Device Manager, under “Sound, video, and game controllers”, do you have some something like “NVIDIA High Definition Audio”?
Right clicking that and clicking “Disable” has made a great difference with me in minimizing random non-crashing, short freezes; basically like a jittery freeze that doesn’t crash the game, but did worry me. I’m still not 100% sure of this change will help with the “pulsing siren” bug we have in GW2, but I’ll post again if it seems like it makes no difference for this specific problem. For now, though, it seems to improve performance a little, so try that if it is relevant to you, and please let us know if it seems to help you avoid the pulsing siren for a lot longer than you’re used; any sign like that.
I just had the same problem, a strange “pulsing” sound, like a siren of warning in a vault or something! And I had it before, so this is the second time. It ONLY happened in WvW for me, and I can’t say for sure, but it seems to come when the area is very crowded.
It is the same sound from this YouTube video:

Please, please implement the option to change the order of weapon skills.
I am fully aware of the complications of this, since one may put the 4th weapon skill (which is derived from the offhand) in the first slot, then later on change the offhand weapon; I am aware of this, but I am also sure that you can still find a workaround. But this option is simply a must to play PvP competitively and efficiently with minimum confusion and pain in the head.
How come? Well, it does not help at all with a crowd-control skill like the slowing sludge uses the 5th bar slot (and its shortcut), then when I change from a 2H weapon to two 1H weapon, all of a sudden my alternative crowd-control skill (like the net shot) is in the 2nd bar slot, using its different shortcut!
This, with trying different classes too, becomes really confusing, and mastering the game becomes far too complicated for how it can potentially be with some intuitive bar-change and shortcut change options.
For me, I am a shortcut person, not a clicker, so even if you keep the weapon skills where they are on the bar but at least somehow give me the ability to give shortcuts to skills in the spellbook or hero menu, then I’ll be satisfied, but a “clicker” won’t, I think, because he will need that skill in the same spot he is used to when he wants to produce that specific effect.
So at the end of the day, it would make most people happy if you just allow us to shift-click skills or spells to change their placement permanently, and the game always remembers where we placed the skills with that specific weapon combination.
And frankly, I think the Guild Wars 2 is becoming successful and popular enough to simply need addons. You can limit what an addon can do, but at least let the community and fans help you in customization like this! It would take a lot of work off your back and give it the fans & community. Addons aren’t necessarily about making the game easier or automating it, but many addons allow players to customize skill placement and even the aesthetic look of the game…what’s wrong with that? Nothing! Please do allow addons, just limit them if you want.
Thank you!
