I actually developed a Conjure/Tempest build yesterday. I can’t test it out, but it certainly looks exciting.

Conjure Boon Bruiser
Just make sure to use Wanderer armor instead of Soldier for the 100% boon duration. You’ve got immunity to conditions above 90%, and essentially permanent protection and high uptime on Magnetic Aura under 90%. Tons of Fire Shield for might, you can get extremely high power while being difficult to kill.

Where you ever able to try your conjure build? I’m curious how that goes.

Small question on cultural armor achieve

Hello. Trying to get the Charr cultural armor achievement “Charr Specialty Armor” but I can’t seem to unlock it. I currently have 17/18 and can’t max it even after buying other gear available gear. Buying them is adding to the Fashion Forward achieve but not this one. Am I doing something incorrectly? Thanks for the help.

Why can't we get any decent looking headgear?

I have a hard time finding decent headgear that doesn’t delete the horns completely. That’s a straight no in my book even if I like the helm. Gotta keep the horns.

My Ele Ember Softscorch was born in the Flame Legion. She was able to escape and made her way to the Black Citadel to join the Ash Legion and eventually the Soft warband. She admires everything about Kalla Scorchrazor (hence her choice of name.) She does not deny or have distaste for her legion of origin and spreads honest word about Flame’s doings and life style inside their fire fortresses. Her loyalties now lie with the Black Citadel and other High Legions.

I don’t have Flame Legion armor from CoF but I very much do like the Gem Store Flamekissed fire outfit.

Your Charr and the treaty.

My charr thief Yassa Softpaw is silently against the treaty. She has her own head cannon that nurses an intense hatred of humankind (at one point I even had her lay bombs in Ebonhawke in game just for the fun of it, haha.) She is most loyal to the Legions, however, and keeps her fury mostly contained. At one point it erupts and causes her downfall, though.

Ember Softscorch my Ele agrees that peace is an achievable goal and works toward furthering it when she can. Very open minded and enjoys meeting new people and races. The two are warband mates so their opinions can bump heads sometimes.

I haven’t developed personalities and ideals for my other charr characters.

I have a headcannon too, Stormdancer, between my main charr. When I create characters in games, histories, personalities and everything else just comes together. I have to know who the character is to play them (as nerdy as that probably sounds) but it’s real fun to do.

Hello. Wondering if you’re open for another member. I’ve played since the first beta but took a decent break while ago. I’m not outrageously active but GW2 is one of my favorite MMOs. All the updates have drawn me back but it’s rather lonesome and I feel I’m missing out on guild activities and what not by myself. Thank you.

The warband name is Soft and it consists of my characters:

Yassa Softpaw – Thief
Ember Softscorch – Ele
Kas Softmetal – Engineer

They’re Ash Legion, so it kind of makes sense. 3 out of my 5 character spots are charr and I love it.

I love my charr lady elementalist. And you’re absolutely right, there are far too few female charr around. In the past week, I’ve maybe come across five or so on one of the most populated servers available. It’s a real shame, they’re very fun to play.

I think light charr armor looks great, same with heavy. Medium is pretty hard to find something that isn’t clipping horrendously and is actually appealing. But here’s a picture of my charr female ele.

I made the fur look charred like from fire using the ‘burnt toast’ color and the fur design that covers only the eyes and half the tail. I think she looks pretty good.

Charr or Sylvari Thief??

in Charr

Posted by: Ropihl.2150

Ropihl.2150

My main is a female charr thief. I made her as small as they go and I don’t believe that I’m targeted any more often than any others. I can understand that being one of the least played classes and being big and burly might seem like putting a target on your back, but I’d assume most wvw players are able to coordinate their attacks. Their either going to follow their commander’s leadership and zone in on a single target or group, or try and kill the thing directly in front of them, which being a thief, might be you. You’ll just have to be one step ahead of them, learn your class, but I for one know that being an aggressive cat-beast coming out of no where with a dagger in their face sends them into a fury!

One thing with the charr is I don’t actually see many. Anywhere. And never female. A few months ago, Anet released that list that showed charr were the least played classes. But that really helps differentiate me from the others and I like that. Even if people tell me to move my giant (which is as small as it can get) charr kitten lol.

Timbesword has a good point though, the trench coats and lack of nonclipping chest pieces is rather off putting. The only few that I enjoy are Eroll’s coat, the basic PvP gear that’s given to you in the Mists (I think that’s Cadecus armor too?) and the WvW armor sets that you buy with badges. It’s all up to you. Check out the sPvP storage to preview all the armor, too!

And I’m waiting for a Tengu ranger. That would be awesome.

There’s that little tunnel that connects the base of the Citadel, the main floor, with the little crafting valley there. Very narrow and not much hiding within it, but I know a lot of people never really even see it! Looking straight at Vauldis, it’s immediately to the left of the Huntsman table in Canton Factorium. One of the tunnels leading into the Bane coliseum, maybe? Another, if not mentioned, is up the stairs on the bar in the middle there, the Serrated Blade. It goes pretty high up, you can’t see it from the bottom, you’d actually have to look. There’s some Whisper’s agents up there, too, and one you might be familiar with if you did the charr story!

Not really a tip to help you learn how to dodge, but for your daily, I go to Ashford and dodge the Ascalonian Ghost Archers for it. You can dodge two arrows at once, cutting down the time needed to wait for your stamina to recharge. Being a thief also helps with Feline Grace.

I’m a dude, and I love customization. Getting to customize and dress up a character is an easy way to lure me into a game. (In fact, that’s what my buddy did to get me into this one.) Took me a long time to settle on my Charr’s looks.

Yup, and the feet twitch, too, if you watch em!

Awesome! I’ll have to catch that next time I do the animation! =D

I had 3 betas to figure out what my charr main would look like. Took me a while, too. I’m incredibly picky when it comes to those things, the nose has to be right, tilt of the eyes. Mass Effect left me at the character screen for hours trying to get it all figured out. Too bad in ME1 and ME2, the female character always had a perpetual duckface, haha! ME3 couldn’t even import my other femShep face, which was a shame.

Why did you roll a Charr?

in Charr

Posted by: Ropihl.2150

Ropihl.2150

I’ll quote you since you seem to be confused…

Didn’t feel like rolling a human female since I have no desire to obtain dyes or gather the most appealing armor, as I’m guessing other girl players do. I usually run the beast type races like the Covenant, Zerg and what not. Charr fit for me and love the fluffy tails and fur customization!

Intent is irrelevant…your intent does not remove the sexism from your original post…which has a direct implication of sexism regardless of what you intended. No one is “upset”, I was just pointing out that the poster who called your post sexist was correct…that’s all. But if you want to continue missing the boat that’s your choice I suppose? I still don’t understand why this is such a difficult concept.

ps: You may want to work on your analogies as many ads are sexist as well…oh and your reading comprehension because no one said women shouldn’t enjoy customization or that customization is inherently negative.

Take it or leave it. You’re the one who seems to be getting upset by this conversation.

I guess you didn’t catch the don’t add to this topic. Real shame.

And I’m sorry you view ads are sexist. Some of them are, that’s for sure. But I guess it’s just something you’re going to have to learn to live with as it’s a daily “generalization” that women enjoy clothing, shopping and other apparently sexist things. And while it’s a generalization, it’s “generally” true! Why is there so much money spent on it by consumers and producers alike? Because it’s “generally” what women want. Why are dyes and unique armor so expensive in the TP? Because people want these things, and wow some out of those 10,000 may be women. Therefore making my post true and generalized while I, in no way, shape or form ever used a number, minority or majority. Unless, of course, you view everything sexist, even things that are positive. Then I’m sorry your world is so small. I once had a friend who only read novels if the main character was female. Talk about sexist and a small world all at once! How much she was missing, focusing in on one detail of the story. I guess it was her loss.

So next time when you’re out there shopping with your girlfriends or whatnot, just remember that buying those cute clothes is apparently feeding the negative stereotype that looking appealing is sexist and that the companies counting on you to buy their items is wrong for thinking so, even though it drives their business.. So you better not touch those dyes! Same idea.

Customization is not negative. Some people like it, some don’t. It’s the “generalization” that seems to put you up in arms when the “generalization” isn’t negative. I’m pretty kitten sure that a majority of women enjoy looking nice, including in game and in real life. And this crazy, far out notion is apparently wrong of me to assume, even though it’s true. THAT’s what I’m upset about. This whole argument is because I said an undisclosed amount of women enjoy being attractive, collecting dyes (clothes) and making a character (themselves) their own is sexist, that I assumed this to be true and guess what it is. So..what’s the issue here?? The truth here is, in your eyes, wrong of me to bring up, even though there can be analogies and surveys and asking anyone on the street that this assumption of women enjoying or trying to be unique and proud of their attractiveness whatever is “generally true.”

How about this. Valentine’s day is coming up, do you like chocolate, one of the most popular treats used as a gift for women? Well, I don’t. Those chocolate makers are wrong for not including me in their projected consumers, shame on them for thinking those pink heart shaped boxes would entice me to their product because I am a female. Very sexist of them. And next time you’re out on a romantic date with a male friend (or female, it’s up to you) you kitten well better go Dutch on it because the generalization that men pay for dinner is very much sexist! Make sure to grab your purse. Wait, that’s a generalization that some/most women have purses (of which is true!!). I’d say wallet, but some/most men generally use those and I’d be sexist on the male side. Bring money!

I’m not arguing with you anymore. Yes, the world is sexist and apparently me generalizing that some/other x amount of women enjoy their own uniqueness is so hypothetical, it clearly had to spark a pointless debate about the ethical values on a video game forum. So, please, don’t bother arguing with me anymore. Because now it isn’t worth my time.

The only thing I said was that females enjoy making females because they like customization, coloring, clothing design and attempting to represent their RL selves in game. I fail to see how these completely honest, tried and true, no way negative reasons are sexist.

You’re still stereotyping female gamers when there are many, MANY (including yourself as you so stated) who don’t play just for the sake of obtaining dyes and appealing armour. You, intentionally or not, were reiterating the sexist typical notion found among many gamers that the average woman plays MMOs to have a “pretty” character, unlike the average male gamer. Maybe you should re-read your original post.

Even IF that’s been your personal experience, that’s in no way representative of the general population, and saying so comes across as sexist whether the intent is there or not. I don’t know why this is a difficult concept?

Some women play mmos to make pretty characters. Others don’t give a kitten about customization and play to participate in pvp or pve competetively, want tough, fierce looking characters, pick male characters…conversely, there are plenty of men who play mmos that spend hours figuring out the gear and dye combinations they like the best.

The point here is that women have a myriad of interests and playstyles and play a myriad of different types of characters…just look at how many women can be found on this subforum alone.

I could have said ANY number of women enjoy customization. Any and someone would have hopped on my back for saying it. 2/3. 4/5. You’re adding to a topic that doesn’t need any more generalization.

Analogy: It’s like saying MANY women enjoy shopping. This is clearly true and drives certain parts of the economy. MANY ads are directed and portrayed to rouse the female psyche. This, too, is a generalization. But I’m sure there are also MANY women don’t like doing it. But the ads are still there and it’s still an option. But lo, by not including them in my statement, I’ve cut them out and offended them. And by generalizing a popular aspect of a game (just like MANY women like shopping but there are those that don’t) that intended to make your own character as something completely not negative, it’s been misconstrued as negative for letting anyone make any character they wish. Imagine that.

In my original post, I didn’t even use the word MANY. I used SOME. So even if 10 out of the 10,000 people that enjoy dye collections (SOME of which are female), they are included in that sum. Perhaps you should reread what I wrote.

So, basically, you’re upset because I didn’t put “women can do anything they’d like in this game not just be pretty” in my text while I focused on one of the obvious and a seemingly desirable trait about customization and character selection. That’s why it’s included in the game! Yes, women can make their characters desirable to look at. They can make them ugly as hell. They can make men! They can do whatever they want! Wow! Perhaps we should all just jump to the end of the character looks/history screen to avoid this whole crazy, shallow notion of making something yours!

TLDR; women play other women (ugly, attractive, or even men) because: reasons. There is now no need to add to this pointless topic since sexism wasn’t intended. So please stop. Who knew saying x amount of people like customization, dyes (options given in the game!) would cause such an unnecessary flurry.

Coolest endgame armor for Charr

in Charr

Ropihl.2150

Light and heavy are awesome for charr. Medium not so much. GW2 medium armor is overwhelmed with the amount of pirate themed gear it’s ridiculous. And I’m no fan of pirates.

I had a hard time trying to find decent charr medium, but I settled for Errol’s Coat for my magic find/grinding set. The tail is actually animated around the back of the garment which is appreciated. And I’m currently working on the Invader pieces you get from WvW badges. Love this set the most so far, very neat looking though the amount of clipping is horrendous.

You can check gear available at the sPvP lockers, but here’s just some small screens of what my charr looks like with them.

Top is Eroll’s coat only, no other parts of the set. Mad King’s Slippers go nice with them, they both have throwing stars on the side.

Bottom is WvW gear, including the coat, shoulders and bracers. Hat (and most hoods and masks) look pretty silly on charr, I think. So I’ve stayed with just the rawhide version. You can preview these yourself at the Armor Vendor guy at the spawn in WvW.

I mostly agree.

Why Anet have Charr so fiew choices with armor? It’s a shame really. There are many fantastic armor sets, light, med and heavy, but only a few fit charr anatomy without clippin and glancin and..
In my opinion medium cultural sets are cool, except T1 ( floatin shoulders), even if last two tiers are very ranger friendly.
The one in the pics is cool too, and makes me wonder if they will ever adapt some more armor pieces to charr tails and horns.
The WvWvW one is so… ! on charr tou i think its a fantastic piece of armor.
When i preview in the Mists with my Norns everything fit so good, not as with a human but good.
Same goes for light and heavy(in a minor way).
I decided to level up another Charr and make a necro. Gone to the Mists and…i mean Arah pieces for example..i find it a fantastic set as a necro, then i saw it on my Charr…

I really hope in the future Anet s gonna make something on this, cause i would really like to play Charrs, and only Charrs.
For now i’ll play Norn

Anyway..
Coolest endgame racial armor is absolutely Heavy one!

Sorry for my poor english

Regards

At the start of the game and a few days in, there wasn’t much in terms of armor being sold, bought or made since the auction house didn’t launch for a few weeks. So I saved up a few gold (which was impossible at that time!) and bought the first and second cultural sets for some interesting armor. I do agree, they are very nice. I particularly like the charr T3 light armor. I have an Ele charr I’m hoping to get it for!

I’m amused by the Charr cooking near the BC, but near the TP NPC’s there are a couple of annoying ones:

“Boss, I’m working as fast as I can (despite the fact that “boss” never says anything and this peon apparently defines “working as fast as he can” as “standing there talking”)!"

“We’re all out of those big ones.”

“That trader left a message for you, boss.”

“I can’t stock more of those until you get more in!” (Ya think?)

However, the most epic NPC dialogue in the game belongs to the one and only Halan Fromanj.

I remember this person in the very first beta, looking for my first merchant. Funny thing is, the character has a gruff, macho voice. But a female charr model. Seems to be a few of em that are like that.

(Hey, now, let’s not stereotype our fellow girl players here, Ropihl! Internalized sexism still counts. :/ )

I love lore in general, and I love charr because I wanted to know more about them in GW1. They’ve done so much for themselves since then, and they’re determined to hang on to what they have, and SO stubborn they just might manage to do it. XD (Seriously, who takes over land haunted by respawning ghosts and says “don’t care, ours anyway”? The charr, that’s who.)

Late reply is late. Sexism wasn’t intended, just guesstimating the reason why other women choose to create human female characters. Gear customization are a fine thing to follow, I would just rather do so on a charr. That’s all. Comment wasn’t even that bad really :P

It may not be “that bad”, but it’s still sexist :p Personally, I wouldn’t be surprised if the proportion of women who play humans and the proportion of men who play human are roughly even.

All the furries on here are amusing me…yay stereotype perpetuation

As for why I play Charr – they speak to me on so many levels. Their culture, their atheism, their values, their history, their competitive spirit…don’t forget a nice heaping dose of feminism! The part of a Blood Legion Charr’s personal story where you meet Elexus Shredskin had me dying of laughter. After that there was definitely no looking back. It definitely also helps that their running and fighting animations are awesome, fur colours are much more fun to play with than skin tones, and tails. I love tails.

The only thing I said was that females enjoy making females because they like customization, coloring, clothing design and attempting to represent their RL selves in game. I fail to see how these completely honest, tried and true, no way negative reasons are sexist.

As a fellow female I don’t find it sexest I find it quite honest and true to an extent. I decided to basically make my fursona here. I like the customization and the coloring does effect the way I play the game and the reasons for it. I figure if I’m going to be stareing at a charecter for a long time I should like the way it looks and be able to play with the colors of the clothes and the design of them without haveing to compermise my stats.

Exactly how I feel. I have no fursona or anything like that, but I find mix and matching fur colors and combos, horns and other basic to charr physical aspects one of the most appealing thing about them. And of course the running animation and swishy tail!

Don't allow server transfers between servers currently matched

in WvW

Posted by: Ropihl.2150

Ropihl.2150

I am a fellow member of Fort Aspenwood, and as such, we know much about the strategies of living while secluded behind large walls and gates. Our intelligence also has good reason to always suspect despicable sea-dwelling pirate scum (like Isle of Janthir and Sea of Sorrows) of intentionally traitorous and cowardly acts. Our true means of knowing this shall not be revealed to others. You could say that the forests of our groves have an eternal living conciousness imbued within them that tells us many things.

Limiting server transfers is a good idea, but not strong enough. People in major guilds will always have multi-accounters, and some of them will be obsessed enough to have spies residing on the servers of stronger enemies in advance of the matchup. The most reliable way I can come up with to detect this form of espionage is to also use something like the log that keeps track of Guild Bank deposits; to use it to document the names of people withdrawing supply from strategic camps.

Fort Aspenwood’s previous enemies have always resorted to acts of deception upon realization that they could never breach our great fortress and it’s amber gates. Living in a fort for so long, we have learned the value in keeping ledgers of our supplies so as to not allow the enclosed confines to deepen mistrust. This way, we don’t have to live within an era of accusation, where any unaware newb who’s seen making a withdrawal from the wrong camp gets blacklisted for being a spy.

Ripping on your opponents is one way to cause bad blood between them. I’m on IoJ and can say that FA has put up a great fight and certainly isn’t a push over. And I find it rather ironic that you, FA dweller, accuses IoJ of cowardly acts when on multiple occasions FA has flight hacked out orbs we legitimately took from our keeps. I’m not accusing the entire server, just find that a bit laughable.

Keep in mind, IoJ and SoS has a larger oceanic presence and it is when we put up the biggest fight. And since the start of this last match up, we’ve had some NA join us to help us against other NA primetime.

Why did you roll a Charr?

Didn’t feel like rolling a human female since I have no desire to obtain dyes or gather the most appealing armor, as I’m guessing other girl players do. I usually run the beast type races like the Covenant, Zerg and what not. Charr fit for me and love the fluffy tails and fur customization!

My female Charr does this, too. Just jumping makes her scream like she’s falling to her death.

The only issue I have with sound is if I watch a new vista in its entirety, the sound mutes for a minute or so. No combat sound, music, jumping or weapon swooshing. After a bit, it returns to normal.
