Just got my full Cleric set and I’m running a perma regeneration + Elixir-Infused Bombs and I gotta say this build is SOOO good and fun.

While I’m all for Engineer PVE support builds, I’d like you to mention what content you’ve done with it. I’m only looking for builds that’ll get me through higher level fractals and made a post on Guru about bombs myself on which people kind of convinced me healing bombs is not really worth it because you’ll either be healing full health allies or when the burst hits don’t have enough healing to make up for it. So please convince me

Wow, didn’t even think about using major runes of Lyssa for that extra 7%. The might stacking isn’t as important in the build, but the vulnerability stacking, as you said, is great, especially for a party.

I’m starting to think that when it comes to PvE dungeons, Vulnerability application and maintenance is the real benefit of taking along an Engineer.

Yea I’d like to agree but haven’t got enough experience to make my opinion on this matter relevant. Though today I’ve played condition grenadier and I doubt it’s an illusion when it felt like every boss went down quite a bit faster, after all from a pure math point of view keeping up 20-25 stacks of vulnerability on its own (without other people spamming it obviously) is an insane boon to your team.

And since our traits determine which skills we should use we can’t change much skills on the fly depending on the boss fight.

Traits can be switched as well though

I’ve only started playing PVE endgame with engineer recently but I feel a lot of potential there. It’s more a matter if you are willing to master the class and put in the extra effort with engineer than flat out “is the engineer usefull”. I think especially in an organized team an engineer can fill many roles, from what I’ve heard condition grenadier (with an amazing range of 1500) does very well in fractals and SD rifle builds have decent burst damage as well. You can also provide quite a bit of might with fire combo field (FT or perhaps bomb kit) and blast finishers if your team syncs well + provide quite a bit of utility with reflects, condition removal and CC.

I play on Ruins of Surmia and it’s a pretty low pop server so I’m not sure what server you’d want to go to. Gandara and Underworld seem pretty decent but I can’t confirm this.

I just created my Engi dominant guild / not limited to engis though. If you’re on Crystal Desert and would like to start having some interesting fun events happen, send me a PM in game or mail works too ^^/

Yeah, I wish they would come out with alliances or something. That worked very well with other mmo’s. no reason it couldn’t work out here. Then again, there is no reason whatsoever why NA can’t play with EU players. the servers aren’t even in different countries! It makes no sense.

Yes to alliances, they had them in GW1 with an alliance chat as well displaying guild tags. I’m not so much concerned about ping, more about timezones but I might as well join you guys anyways. The way I envision an engineer guild (as a PVE player): share and invent builds + try to clear high level content with engineer team

I was acutally just thinking about opening a new thread with a similar topic on how to play engi in fractals.

I’d love this, or just seperate that “engineer builds” thread into PVE, WvW and PvP.
It’s horrible to go looking for PVE builds in that thread.

Just started fractals (up to 9) in full exotic zerker and 3 pieces of knights (not sure if i’ll keep it that way, i just wanted sorrows embrace looks). I play 10/30/0/0/30 static discharge rifle with tool kit, rifle turret, rocket boots (elixir U gets in there quite often as well).

I’m not too familiar with condition pistol engineer but I’d think you’d want either coated bullets for some AOE and/or grenade kit because they’re pretty good with conditions? Obviously I don’t know what your goal is with this build so that makes it hard to give good advice but I certainly do not understand the use of tool kit in there.

This is not a rifle build :p
It seems a bit counter intuitive, you invest into power and condition duration a lot, assuming you’ll be in grenade kit most of the time it’s weird that you don’t take the explosive traits. Now you use +30% crit damage which most people would use when they have a high crit chance, it would make more sense to go stack might with elixirs to up your condition damage and power in this case.

Personally I recommend 10/30/0/0/30 with static discharge over this build. You can even use grenade kit with it if that’s what you want and just leave tool kit for the short cooldown tool belt skill and add in rifle turret for belt shot.

Basically you have to choose what you want from this build, be a rifle engineer relying on crits chucking grenades, be a grenadier relying on power and conditions or whatever you envision your character to be.

I will say the down side to running HGH is you will constantly be tossing elixirs for buffs of might instead of uses of elixirs to maximize dps. Which generally means you will lose some DPS during the fight as the casts for toss can add up quickly.

I’ve been wondering about using SD and Acidic Elixirs with an HGH grenadier build, wouldn’t that make the throwing of elixirs more of a guaranteed bonus to your play?

Going to take a guess and say you’ve never used the Acidic Elixirs trait before? It’s absolutely awful. One of the most worthless traits in the game.

I heard it does about 500 damage, if you’re throwing the elixir for the buff or whatever anyways adding 500 AOE + a chain lightning hardly seems completely worthless

Combat is too fluid in GW2 too have a set rotation. You have your hard hitting attacks and condition skills, but generally you use what’s needed at the time. Open up with a set couple skills in a row, but then the fights take shape as they unfold. I haven’t any dungeon experience, so I can’t say what combat is like there. But I’d have to assume it’s more than just spamming your damage skills. Depending on your group makeup, you would want to synergize as much as possible. Don’t use that high damage blast finisher yet…ally’s fire field down….now use it. You take a personal dps hit for a couple secs but your group benefits as a whole.

There are no dps meters and I’m glad. If there were, people would theorycraft ideal rotations and combat would lose its synergy. Everyone would be doing it themselves with allies next to them, rather than operating as a team. Team play doesn’t happen enough, I don’t want anything to lessen it further.

There are good threads on the forums that detail effective builds for all situations. Do a search and try em all out. See what you like.

I agree with you that there shouldn’t be too much “ultimate rotation” in this game but it’d be nice to know 100% sure that your dps would be higher if you add or skip a skill when just trying to put out your maximal damage. I mean you have to have some form of measuring if you’re planning to run 5 builds and changing up frequently other than feeling and utility?

Hi RuBarBZ, wait me, I need 30 sheets of paper to calculate the dps for those Builds – wait, this is to long. Means calculation dps for one Build and different equipment is hard enought – comparing two builds with different options of equipment and operation areas is like a 8 week simulation project.

Obviously It’d be to measure optimal rotation… and probably minimal rotation with skills i’m bound to get off.

Hi guys, currently I’m running a selfmade Rifle SD build with some tool kit useage which I enjoy very much but I’ve been wanting to calculate it’s dps. I’ve searched the web for a guide on how to properly calculate the dps of a certain rotation in gw2 but haven’t found anything as of yet. As a reference for engineer dps I’d like to compare it to the best grenadier builds out there hence the 2 questions:

1) How do you properly calculate dps? (rotation included) A link would be nice if there is one.

2) What build do you recommend for grenade kit dps in PVE? I read a lot about HGH vs more dmg traits like tools or fireweapons and also relying on conditions vs power.

The build above is amazing for PvE where you can put out a lot of damage and control mobs on the front line with pushback, Smoke Vent, and the Flame Turret’s 5 second Smoke Screen field every 30 seconds. It utilizes a might heavy build that you gain from Juggernaut and HGH and capitalizes on the condition effects from Vulnerability, Bleed, and Burn effects the fast hitting FT provides.

For WvW I switch out the Flame Turret for Elixir C for condition removal and it works pretty good. However, in SPvP I found that this build lacked the defensive stats and utilities to sustain itself in coordinated long duration skirmishes, and you might as well be a sitting duck for ranged classes to kite you around. I’m thinking about re-considering the build with more defensive stats and tossing out HGH or Deadly Mixtures for permanent Regeneration, but in the meantime I’m having a blast with my healing build which seems to be very strong in structured PvP.

Lmao I have honesty had the most fun in this game when I switched to masks HGH pistols build (massive props BTW). I love it when I get singled out and chased by 20-30 ppl because I’ve killed them all over the map in 1s and 2s

Who’s this “boss” you mention?
Bosses and Mobs differ greatly (which you should know, especially if you played gw),
hence summoned thieves are bound to be useful in certain situations (AoE is probably the biggest factor here). I guess you forgot you can change your utility skills on the fly and that it might be useful to do so.

Do you believe they are good enough at surviving to bring in PVE endgame?
Wiki state’s they have 3000-7500 health depending on summon skill and situation (sPvP or not). I suppose a lot of AoE kind of negates their use?

On a sidenote: such a shame they don’t have the stealth skills for their respective weapon set so that stealthing them would be useful.
