Flying Broom?

Runar.1342

Hi,
Just got the latest newsletter that offers up a couple new items in the games transaction store. One of them is a broom that flies. Says something like ‘why walk when you can fly’.

It’s purely out of curiosity that I ask this, but… Do you really fly around in the air on this broom, or do you just sort of hover or skirt around ontop of the ground?

Thanks

I guess I fall into the C category. I stopped playing GW2 about 1 month after it released. I’m one of those players that actually loves to find fantastic gear, not because I need it to participate in some PvP or high level dungeons, but rather just because it’s a fun thing to me to occasionally be rewarded by getting some surprise fantastic gear once in a while and I didn’t feel that was happening in GW2.

But I was watching two guys livestreaming GW2 early this morning so I thought I’d give it another chance since they were having so much fun playing it (currently re-downloading the client since I deleted it when I quit playing) so I thought I’d come to the forums to see what is new and what do I discover? A hell of a lot of ranting from the players, much of which I can’t even decipher as to what it is they’re ranting about. It seems the different rant discussions seem to go out like a spider web, everybody seems to be pissed off about one thing or another right now in GW2.

Oh well, I’ll continue to download the client since it’s already up to 10GB downloaded and will have to actually play it myself to see if anything has changed in the game, I’m kind of believing in one topic that I read that pretty much states, “the game hasn’t changed at all for me” is likely where I’ll fall into things again.

As far as the cash shop is concerned, I’m no longer opposed to buying things from it, but first they have to produce something in the cash shop that I want to buy. Currently there is nothing that I’d give my hard earned money for and that’s kind of a shame.

This is … just too much. If all that is right I’m not worried. I’m relieved. It means I can quit this game and never come back and rely on all themepark games becoming utter trash in the name of profit.

Just a note… I have been playing EVE Online since last Friday or so, and while the game has a MASSIVE learning curve it really is a blast.

100% PvP, Full Loot Drop, Sandbox-Style game based on being an immortal space ship captain.

I have given up on all MMOs, and all multi-player “themepark” style games.

Yeah great game until you are in a corporation that is locked in their hangars by some jerk of another corporation that thinks it’s fun to try to actually ruin other gamers play time by destroying the vessels of the other corporation that have no basic defenses.

Anyway, this topic was a good read, I’m going to invest my money in Reynolds and Reynolds aluminum foil asap.

My assessment over a month after the official launch.

In regards to End Game.

Lets give ArenaNet some time to get some things out folks. We’re getting a Halloween event shortly and I’m sure the live teams are going to be adding lots of new content.

=)

I’m all for giving them the time that they need, I just think they need to communicate better on what the plans are so that we can try to wait patiently until they’ve had time to implement them.

Runar.1342

Hi,

I noticed the below message in my inbox of my email account and did not, will not click on the link (link purposely left out of message below), but want to know if it’s a phishing email or if somebody actually did get access to my account. I don’t have any high profile characters (i.e., have less than 4 silver so nothing really worth taking anyway) to worry about but if this is phishing than maybe it will make others aware of what is going around, and if it’s not phishing then obviously a random password generator of 16 alphanumeric is not enough. I don’t use same passwords for any sites, I use a program (lastpass) to issue new passwords for each site.

Anyway, message was as follows:

A log-in attempt from the following location is currently awaiting your authorization.

Address: 114.44.9.234
City: Taipei
Region: 03
Country: TW

This location is approximated based on information provided by your Internet Service Provider. If in doubt, deny the request and try again.

If you are certain this log-in attempt was not made by you, then someone else knows your log-in credentials and you should change your password immediately via Account Management.

For security purposes, we alert you each time your account is accessed from an unrecognized location. To authenticate this log-in attempt, please click the link below:
<<Link would normally be here>>

End message.

Not sure how I would deny the attempt since when I login to my account (and I have changed the password with a new random password issued by lastpass) but when I login to my account and click on security it only shows that I logged into my account about 1 min ago using the IP address that I know is mine. I don’t want to click on the link since I’m not positive that it belongs to Guildwars2.com even though it looks like it does.

Is there a mass phishing scam going around right now? Usually gmail will auto put this type of email in my spam box when too many gmail users get and tag them as spam but this one made it into my inbox.

Losing interest? Try this!

I’m really sorry to say that I opted for #1 in the OP’s post but when I came back I found the PvE content just as dull (if not more so due to other people kept playing and moved out of the area so now i’m more alone) as it was prior to taking a break.

I really don’t feel like I’m working towards anything in the game, it’s too easy to max level and crafting sucks kittens (spelled, kittens) since this is not really a gear driven game so why even bother to craft.

The different quests/hearts whatever you’d like them to be named are dull, especially after doing them the first time and seeing and participating in them multiple times.

I don’t find the enemy to be exciting at all thus far, it just feels like some other skin has been placed on a mob that they’ve added a couple more 0’s to it’s HP. No real diversity in action to me.

Honestly, I think if they wanted to make the really big bucks which everybody does, they really should have gone with a more gear driven game. Just my opinion.

If your bored…. don’t play.
But i really don’t get how people say there is no end-game… the whole thing is end game.
Spvp and WvW keep me very entertained at lvl 80. Dungeons are fun and challenging as well, and those kitten jumping puzzles are actually fun too. I especially like the jumping puzzle in WvW, nothing like using traps on enemies in a Indiana Jones style area.

Unfortunately, I don’t think that a lot of people understood that would be the end game, not everybody is into pvp or wvw but would rather just have more game content in PvE.

I knew what this MMO’s end game was going to be and quite honestly I’m considering this game to be less and less of an MMO at all, but rather just a persistent multiplayer gigantic world, to me MMO’s will have regular content updates.

Yeah I know, we don’t pay a monthly, but that is the choice that Anet made with GW2, not ours. If it doesn’t afford them to keep adding onto the game in a timely manner then it’s a lost cause to me, the non PvP’er, non WvW’er.

I’ve not quit completely, when I’m super bored I’m sure I’ll come back to see what has changed, what has been added, but in general GW2 isn’t take up nearly as much of my play time as I had originally thought/hoped it would do.

I have seen this claim in a number of threads, and I see people claiming this in chat on the game as well,

I want to play on your server.

On the server that I’m on, (at the times that I’m on), nobody is social enough to chat, less even to hold a conversation that even makes any sense and that which is not just meant to insult another player.

So far in GW2 I have to say that it’s the most anti-social MMO that I’ve ever played. In a couple of the others at least there was more to the chat than just complaining about one thing or another.

Runar.1342

I just got my normal daily login two in game emails trying to get me to buy some gold. Seems like this will be the norm from now on unfortunately.

I hate spam in real life email and I hate it even more in games that I’ve payed to play.

What could Anet do about it?
I think you mean, What should Anet have done about it?
They should have given us a keyword filter system that would allow us to enter keywords into a simple text file in the game installation folder. Any time that chat message comes up with a word that is in a players keyword list, the message would not appear in the chat window.

Works basically the same for in game mail, anytime that a new message contains one of these hot words, then that message is not delivered to the player, it is simply deleted instead.

Then keeping up on it falls on the player to deal with and Anet doesn’t have to worry about it, unless they feel the desire to provide their own list of keywords that they feel would be a good starting list of words to place in this file.

Yeah, they’ve had 5 years to come up with a system, and all that they’ve managed to come up with is like every other MMO ever produced… A button to report the gold seller AFTER the incident.

Come on Anet, quite being reactive and start being proactive when it comes to the spam that is making your game unenjoyable to play due to the growing amount of gold selling spam that is arriving on a daily basis now.

Which is better: +10 exp or +10% exp?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Runar.1342

Runar.1342

Take a look at what you are killing and the experience you are getting. 10 exp is better for any mob that gives 90 exp (10 being better than 10% of 90 which is only 9) but as mentioned, when you get to mobs that give 110 exp or higher, then +10% exp is better (mob gives 1000 exp, with +10% you would get an extra 100 compared to just a flat rate of +10)

Runar.1342

It all depends on how much these gold sellers actually sell their gold for. Take D3 as an example, while Blizzard is not directly selling the gold to the players, it is getting a cut of the payment, AND it’s setting the price of the gold in the real money auction house, so basically it’s about the same as if Blizzard were selling the gold themselves since they manipulate the price to be how much they want the gold to be sold for.

Anyway, the point is that gold sellers are making a fortune selling gold in D3, just check out some of the sellers on eBay. They simply sell it for less than what Blizzard is allowing gold to be sold as and make hundreds of thousands of dollars if not millions of dollars.

I’m sure it’s quite profitable for them in GW2 else they would not be doing it.’

Personal belief here is that once Anet gets the hacking under control, things will be settled down and they will start to offer trial accounts that will serve thekitten rodent eating, poop smelling, dull witted, ankle biting, stained tighty whitie wearing, gold selling, game busting jerks quite well.

I’m here in the forums instead of playing the game, if that doesn’t tell Anet how TeeD off I am about the gold spamming situation, then nothing will. I put up with it for far too many years in subscription MMO’s that I played, put up with it far too long in D3, that I’m done putting up with it.

They need to fix it or move along. They should have had some mechanic in place in the game that allowed us to block chat messages and or in game mail based on keywords that the user enters so that it can be easily and quickly updated as necessary to stay ahead of these kitten. Anet had plenty of time to devote to giving us a tool but all they did was make us look like tools without a tool to block off the spammers.

Yeah you can report them, and or block them but they’ll simply be back on another account in a few moments after they’ve been exposed and banned.

Runic is being reactive to the gold spamming situation and they NEED to be Proactive.

Well, they’ve got my $60.00 but they certainly won’t get any gem shop or expansion money from me unless we get something in the game that will effectively allow us to block the spammers.

Think about something that really REALLY annoys you jjGlyph, now apply that reasoning to gold in game mail spam and you’ll have your reason.

By the way, I’m sure you could come up wth something that annoys you but others would just say “oh but that takes all of less than a second to get out of that situation” why are you so annoyed by it.

I requested no onions on my steak and you bring it to my table with onions, I am SUPER DUPER annoyed by this. My wife leans over, with one hand she takes the onions off of my steak and whispers in my ear, “why does it annoy you so much that they put onions on your steak hon? It only takes a second to remove them”.

Runar.1342

Playing on Blackgate, and I have received zero spam emails, and haven’t been whispered from a spammer. But have seen an occasional spammer on the chat channels.

I’m on blackgate too but I have the same problem of gold selling spam in my in game mailbox everytime that I’ve logged into the game for the past week or more.

It’s gotten too annoying for me, I’m just gonna hang out in the forums until Anet comes up with something that will stop it from getting into my inbox instead of chasing their tails.

Seriously, Anet needs to be more proactive on the problem instead of reactive. Give us tools so that we can filter out the messages ourselves, it’s proven to work in WOW, and it will work here too.

For those that say “but GW2 has only been out for 2 weeks” to them I say, Yes, but they’ve had 5 years to develop the game and they KNOW what a large issue gold spamming is in all MMO’s that use gold as their currency, and should have been working on a solution long before releasing the game. It’s shameful to release an MMO today and not have tools in place to block gold selling in game mail, simply shameful.

They knew it would be an issue in GW2 but the powers that be didn’t think it was worth spending any time on during development beyond some “artist” coming up with an acceptable looking “report” button.

Could you go back to a "standard" MMO?

Runar.1342

They don’t have to get rid of them, they CAN give us tools that would allow us to block them perfectly fine, block them out of the chat by user maintained chat filters like the chat mod that somebody created for WOW many years ago, and Anet could also do a user maintained filter system for the ingame mail as well so that those messages are removed if they contain any of the words that the user has inputed to block.

There are many ways to deal with this, but I have a sinking feeling that Anet is no different than Blizzard in this regard, they’l keep banning offenders but never be proactive to stop this, only thing they’ll be is reactive after we’ve already been spammed.

I consider the spam e-mails (in game) worse.

Yes so do I. It’s now been 100% that when ever I login (after not playing for a day or two), my in game mail has minimum of 2 gold selling spam messages in my inbox.

Honestly, it’s only been a couple weeks since launch but I’m already sick enough of this gold selling spam stuff to not want to bother playing GW2 anymore.

Runar.1342

Hi,
So, every time that I login to play GW2, I have new in game mail, usually I dont know, maybe 2 or 4 gold selling spam in game emails.

I’ve taken the time to report them but it’s obvious this isn’t going to stop the gold selling spam ingame emails from occurring, it’s only going to get some accounts banned, but they’ll just start new accounts and or hack other people’s accounts to spam some more.

Isn’t there anything else that we can do to stop this from reaching our in game inbox?

My characters are not that far along, so I don’t mind deleting my character(s) that gets this spam if that would get me off whatever type of system the gold sellers are using that is allowing them to spam me in game in my inbox if that would work.

I’ve never sent in game mail, so I don’t know if it’s based on my real username like on the forums or if it’s based on character name, so deleting my character may not solve anything at all.

And how did they get my character or username anyway? Just saw me in game and added it to (I presume) his spam bots list? Or did he pull it off of the forums here from the messages that I’ve posted or what?

I won’t get into suggestions to Anet on how they could alleviate this, but there are ways, they worked in WOW and reduced my inbox spam floods by at least 90%, I’ll save that for when they open up a suggestion forum.

But is there anything I CAN do now besides either delete the mails or report them?

Thanks

Somebody’s got to get the ball rolling.

Start listing your items for a higher price than what the TP is already having items listed at.

Granted it may well take a long time to sell the items but I think eventually people will get the idea and start pricing their items appropriately.

It does that to me from time to time, so I’ve been assuming that it’s just laggy, maybe it’s overloaded. If I go back to the TP in a few minutes it usually opens up okay. But sometimes it just stalls and doesn’t bring up anything except the window, so I have to assume it’s overloaded when that happens.

The queue that you speak of is an overflow queue. When the regular server is full it puts us into an overflow server and then when there is space in the regular server it pops up a message asking if you want to move to the regular server. There is also that popup that tells you that you’ve been put into the overflow queue.

Personally If I’m just playing by myself, no guildies or friends online with me then I just stay in the overflow server or where ever the game puts me.

Not sure what is difficult about the merchants to figure out, they seem pretty easy to me, sell, buy, buy back at the gold merchants, or sell, buy, buyback at the karma merchants. But maybe you are talking about a particular GW2 class type.

14 day ban on first chat offense?

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Runar.1342

Runar.1342

3 days sounds a bit long even, I’d suggest 48 hours on a first offense, 5 days on a second offense, and 2 weeks on a 3rd offense and after that then well… Three strikes and you’re out’a here.

I think that what Anet needs to keep in mind here is that these bans don’t really just affect the people they are imposed on, they affect all that see them and hear about them and realize that 2 weeks is way too severe a punishment for a language violation.

While I personally don’t use crude language or call other people names, it bothers me a great deal to be playing a game where they are willing to impose a 14 day ban supposedly for a first strike offense that is simply a language violation.

Don’t get me wrong Anet, I’m all for perma banning accounts that use bots or exploit the game, but language violations? 14 days? It really does sound like somebody pushed the wrong button on your end when issuing the ban.
