What about Ranked do you enjoy more than Unranked during off-season?

Is it that you prefer climbing a ladder all the time? Or are there other particular reasons.

-default models
-better matches, in unranked i meet ppl that play horrible builds or they only play pvp once in a blue moon
-in ranked people want to win, in unranked no one gives a kitten about winning

This. And personally i wanted a 24/7 working ladder system, otherwise this game will never be taken seriously despite its amazing combat. The fact that the Competitive Queue stops at times, only makes me feel like i’m being told “good job in playing good, but we aren’t as serious as you think we are in the pvp scene.”

There are CLEARLY better solutions for this. League of Legends for example, has both normal and ranked up all the time. So this makes you feel a competitive spirit in the game, anytime you login, be it today, in 2 months, in 1 year, you name it. Its this spirit that keeps players hooked in the game, the feeling that you will miss out on the opportunity to become a great player if you log off and stop playing the game.
When you see one of their top players you go “whoa that guy must be brutally good because he went through a lot”. Its tough in that game to go up, but the system makes you feel rewarded for your skill and each step you take towards that goal.

Like the Dark Souls franshise, the game has such success because each battle you take present you with GREAT satisfaction in the skill you employed to overcome such ordeals in the game. This game is known to be “unforgiving” and yet people flock to it.
Gives you a sense of achivement, despite the fact that you wasted like 2+ hours killing that one boss at a certain part of the game.

I ask you, aren’t LoL players burned out too? And yet you see them there by the brutal numbers, watching, playing, time after time to climb the ladder to sucess that they feel is available at all times and to all. Do remember that each match in this game takes at LEAST 20 minutes and will range most of the time to 30-50 minutes, burning out players, and yet you still see them playing.

Amazing, all OP is trying to do is bring the Elite specs down to core level and people fail to see that so much that its insane.

Fine, i’ll take his nerfs to my class of choice (Engineer) and analyze them one-by-one:

Engineer:
• Hammer #2-#5 10% dmg nerf
>>(in the whole nerf package this makes perfect sense because other classes will lack defenses)
• Electro whirl: cooldown increased to 8 seconds
>>(this is a reflect+high damage + combo melee aoe damage skill on low cd, in other words a 1 BUTTON TO WIN skill.)
• Rocket charge: now only has 2 leaps instead of 3. The 2 leaps will travel the same distance as the 3 hits but only evade for 2/3 the duration.
>>(Each leap heals around for 2k+/-, a bit too much, considering the heal turret has 20 sec cd OR your medic gyro F1 is 25 seconds in cooldown this means you have like almost 2 heals available. Besides, please remember that the idea is to bring this down in line to core class value, meaning, if the 3 leaps remain available, using a Hammer will REMAIN “meta” forever in comparison to Pistols and Rifle.)
• Shock shield: no longer does dmg, block duration increased by 1 second, still applies vuln CD increased to 24 second
>>(With the nerfs to other classes in the offensive and defensive area, taking this as is, is unfair. Please remember that the Hammer is by far the most OP weapon of the moment because of its flexibility.)
• Thunderclap: 28 second cooldown
>>(1500 range aoe dps + stun + lightning field on a 1 BUTTON TO WIN.)
• Healing turret: exploding the turret has a 25 sec cooldown not exploding still has 15 sec CD
>>(2520 self heal + 2520 aoe heal with 2 condi cleanse 5 target 480 radius waterfield combo + 8 sec self and 5 sec aoe regen application not to mention the toolbelt skill. Makes sense, currently this heal skill makes choosing any other heal skills in the Engi a bad choice. The impact of this skill at 25 seconds is still brutal regardless of nerfs. If placed at 25 seconds, choosing other skills won’t be as a punishing choice due to the cost/effectiveness parameter, for example comparing the Medic Gyro who has a 20 sec cd as well but less versatility.)
• Elixir B: retal decreased to 8 seconds
>>(Overall direct damage is good as is, and if classes get nerfed this will be a bit fair.)
• Slick shoes: my least favorite skill in the game, cooldown reduced to 30 seconds. This skill can now only hit a player once
>>(My thoughts exacly. This 45 second skill is a 1 BUTTON TO WIN skill that is far too effective at its skill cap. Currently if you place it well against a player in a 1v1 you can lock the player to fall over 5 times consecutively, allowing you to 1 BUTTON TO WIN the fight! And forget that stability because it won’t save you! Compare this by using Grenades or the Mortar kits and you can see what i mean!)
• Elixir x rampage duration decreased to 11 seconds
>>(Again a 1 BUTTON TO WIN skill that makes you ignore every skill you have to just effectively burst/tank the enemy with 5 skills. Rewards “low skill cap” a bit too much, unlike your MORTAR KIT who has a massive skill cap and is nowhere near as deadly.)
• Bulwark gyro CD increased to 25 seconds
>>(With the nerf package it would be a good choice, we need to consider the classes nerfs to their offensive capability.)
• Sneak gyro: cooldown increased to 50 seconds, ½ second cast time
>>(Again a 1 BUTTON TO WIN skill that sways the battle situation too abrutly, instantly and unfairly. If we consider that you are fighting this engi in a 1v1, he will keep going to stealth and escaping again and again even if interrupted with any crowd control. And destroying that gyro won’t reveal him either. A never ending and unfair fight because of a 1 BUTTON TO WIN skill.)
• Gyro detonations now cause reveal to the engi
>>(I thought they did on their release at HOT, but they don’t. They should. This time around you have choose placement of your character and gyro for maximum output. )
• Function gyro now only resses at 50% speed of a player.
>>(In the right hands this skill helps the down state be less absolute and game changing. Coupling with the regen giving you added ress speed + the healing fields (elixir gun 5 OR mortar 5) you can do some TOO FAST resses right there. The Gyro ress being at 50% would be in line with the Rangers 50% fast Search and Rescue.

Traits:
• Aim assisted rocket now travels at half speed
>>(Hard to tell when to dodge at its current speed indeed.)
• Bunker down: bandages now heal for 400 baseline
>>(To cut on the passive sustain a bit.)
• Protection injection: projection now lasts 1.5 seconds
>>(Boon duration reduction rewards not face tanking and stays in line with other classes nerfs to offense. Besides, you can get more protection if you take the Medic Gyro’s F1 aoe skill. Taking both for almost 100% proto uptime is too good though. At least now if you want to go melee you have to consider the Medic Gyro for “physical defense” and protection uptime over healing turret who is more “condi defense” oriented. The default protection uptime of 3 seconds you have passively is a bit too much and is too impactful at its skill cap. Nerf Approved.)
• Self regulating defenses is no longer affected by elixir traits (doesn’t cure condition and doesn’t have increased activation time, and doesn’t have reduced CD)
>>(Much needed nerf because as it stands now, it makes using the other 2 traits a stupid choice. Again the same scenario from the Steath Gyro, imagine the Engi having that Gyro AND this trait…he will simply keep escaping and coming back. You should be rewarded for staying alive, not from passive traits that save you from death.)
• Perfectly weighted: 10% dmg increase on hammer. Hammer cooldown decreased by 20%
>>(A good change, the trait as it stands now is not a good choice in comparision to the other 2 traits. With this it would be making you actually go into a high risk/high reward choice between Hammer effectiveness and survivebility from the protection giving trait Recovery Matrix.)
• Recovery matrix: duration decreased to 4 seconds
>>(Down from 6 seconds of protection. Now instead of being silly protection uptime, it will now reward you for using your heal and proc it at the right time. Perhaps now using a Medic Gyro will be beneficial due to the gyros instant cast. The Protection being this short makes you consider the cast time of both the gyro and the healing turret for effectiveness purposes.)
• Rapid regeneration: swiftness now heals for 55 base and superspeed for 300 base. They can now both overlap the heal
>>(This trait currently rewards you if you take just swifness or just super speed because of its big numbers. Changing it to this won’t be bad because other classes won’t have as much damage due to nerfs. Now taking both swif and super speed is where this trait shines. This will also open choice to the other 2 traits that no one cares to use due to this ones passive effectiveness.)
• Adaptive armor: max stacks 5 100 per stack duration 8 seconds. A stack is earned each time an attack is blocked (reflected does not count)
>>(This trait does too much as a passive one, and it overshadows the other 2 traits because of this. Its too simple and effective, with these nerfs at least getting that toughness requires some skill from the player. Do you intend on removing the 20% Condition damage aspect as well?)

To anyone who says “in high tier its all good” please check again. You won’t get less than 2 every match with the presistent 3rd necro. People in Diamond were smarter, they made a 2 necro, 2 rev and 1 ele group to win everything.

As an engineer player i approve of these nerfs to my class of choice, if, the rest of the classes get updated with these nerfs as well. These nerfs are actually in line with each classes balance if done as a whole.

I agree completely, and here is my experience so far in this game as of late:

Team – Doesn’t matter the class you use, the build you have, the gear you use or the skill you got, because in the end of the day you will have matches where your team just explodes and dies the whole match!

Class – If you don’t use the right class or elite spec in this pvp system, you won’t go far!

Build – This one… as a S1 Legendary player i got kicked from a competitive team for not using the “meta” build in the scrapper elite spec. Yes, because i used a build made by me or a variant of the meta build, i was asked to leave. I had a brilliant performance in every match and yet it was not enough, EVERY MATCH!
Further more i get people insulting me “stupid engi is using this ****” or “every time i see that engi i lose”. I would delete this build if it sucked, but fighting in legendary against ESL and PRO PLAYERS and winning with it gave me comfort. Now i am but a Solo Qer currently in Diamond. All thanks to this crappy balance. Congratulations Anet you achived exacly the opposite effect in PVP for me!

Gear – Same thing with build, you don’t use the “meta” amulets and sigils then you suck. Despite there being 123523543254412343542435346 amulets, runes and sigils.
Don’t even try to take any other weapon besides hammer for engi in this meta.

Skill – What sold me to this game…and yet all i see is the game having 1 button to win skills like Slick Shoes with BEST SKILL CAP EVER being utterly effective instead of you using those grenades or mortar even and being actually and truly skilled using those skill shots…
OR Stupid Elixir X, one button press to win crap (why god?).
So much training…all these years…for nothing…doesn’t matter crap. Low skill cap builds being the TOP builds instead of the actually hard to play ones is a real fun pvp aspect…not.

Again…Guild Wars 2 has such potential…but balance makes no sense sometimes.

Seriously, just because there are 4 necros on that team doesnt automatically mean they will win.

a) You can outrotate them and
b) a lot of necro players are really bad. They dont understand that profession at all and just run in, smash buttons, go in shroud, press 5, press 3, press 4 and think everything should be dead.

And if its minion masters… just pull pets around a corner, kill bloodfiend, kill necro, be done with it. AI is thank god stupid enough for this to work.

Understand the profesison? Hey I’ll be the first to admit I’m one of those necro players who are not good in pvp. I have zero clue to what other classes can do and what i must do to counter them and when. But let me tell you sth, I have eyes. I see all the winning necro players and they simply condi bomb you – does this mean they are good? Is that what the profession is all about? It shouldnt be. Arenanet gave us a greatsword and that is the weapon I want to play with, screw the condi meta, its unappealing, its not my style. I want to use my weapon of choice because this is above all a fantasy game in which I more or less roleplay. If I am denied something as basic as my weapon of choice because its not “meta” then screw the meta and screw pvp altogether.

The only reason I have the one win is because I saved 8 people from mid via Search and Rescue. Take away those 40 points and I’m dying. I was a Legend last year via complete solo queue.

I agree. I was Legend in Season 1 too and the same thing is happening to me. When i was in ruby matches were fine, but once i reached half of diamond division, i almost never win to conditions outside of me. I did everything possible to carry the games, but no deal…no matter how skilled i play. I was always in first place of the team in performance…but the team exploded against the enemy when they went 1v1 or team fights.

I agree with OP. Stop class stacking! I did my first stream one of these days and at the end of the stream i realized how unbalanced it is to have class stacking in this game. Either i lose against teams of 2 eles + whatever or 2 necros and 2 revs and so on, this makes no sense! Where in the world can this game become an e-sport if the ranked games are not a way of training you to later tournaments?!

There is no risk/reward involved in class choices in pvp, its instead a yolo like system that lets same classes stack up in whatever ways you wish! Its broken and it has to stop! Here i thought of streaming this great game that it is Guild Wars 2 when this system makes no sense or is enjoyable to see!

Class balance would be much easier if classes were capped to 1 per team!

I’m a diamond player that lost 3 times the tier 5 this week to pathetic class stacking teams.
But let’s face it, what is going to happen is me or anyone who says “class stacking needs to end” being called either a stupid player, noob, lack of experience and whatnots as it usually is. Why? Because this is always the same excuse to cover a broken system in this game.

As far as raw data i will not defend myself in any way shape or form because Anet has my accounts data. And yes i have stopped streaming until this game has a healthy pvp scene.

Imo, no your not at the moment. Looks as though your too focused on running through certain rotations and not paying enough attention to what your opponent is doing. Also you could work on rotations but it’s easier to do with a consistent team. (My rotations still suck lol)

I don’t think you are ready for esl, or the pro league.

My advice is find a team or build one for season 2 if you guys have what it takes to climb the ladder you’ll get your shot to play into it.

Full disclaimer I’m not good enough for the pro league either and I know that.

Rotations? Please check the video. Engineer is about improvising, what i said there was merely some possibilities that could be used.

I think i did pretty good in that game, it was an Unranked Match yes, which in its current state is a sub-par place to record the video for everyone, including the tournament players. Ranked matches are still not available yet, but i really wanted a Competitive Team before them and playing Unranked is all i can do for now…
I always aim for Far in Solo Queue and non serious scenarios because if i move there the chances of me going versus 2 are high, and when this happens it carries the game most times. Is it dangerous? Yes it is.

I made sure i was controlling the enemies with combo fields as much as possible:

Dazes Aoe Combos (Thunder Clap-skill 5 + Rocket Charge-skill 3 into Electro-whirl- skill 2 for vulnerability and damage from the lightning combo of skill 5.).
Blinds (Mortar 4 Flash Shell)
Blocks (Shock Shield 4 Hammer + Reflect and Damage 2 in Hammer.
Damage-Skill 4 in elixir gun.
Chill (Endothermic Shell 3) always up.
Healing (Elixir Shell mortar 5 that removes 1 condition and heals for a massive amount in aoe + Super elixir 5 in elixir gun + Healing Mist Tool belt F4

These or some of the things i take into consideration, however writting what i was aiming for is a hard task due to complex chain mechanics.

Mechanics such as:

>I want retaliation as much as possible so i use mortar 4 on the floor to blind him and then leap through it to gain light aura.
>Keep poison uptime at all times on the enemies with skill 2 on mortar and skill 3 on elixir gun (however in this scenerio from my tests i saw my poison uptime was not optimal so i changed a sigil to a Sigil of Doom) because the poison decreases healing by -33%, and in this it allows me to kill tank classes because of their sustain (druids included).
> Mortar skill 5 works with the elixir duration and effectiveness trait.

And so forth

What i learned from the 3 game modes:

In my journey through pve and wvw i learned many things regarding my class that i use in pvp. I theory crafted all day to make my builds for the 3 game modes, and i use many different builds in pve, wvw and spvp that i learned to find most impactful. It was this that made me try everything and every skill (from Cleric support engineer, to Soldier Turret engineer and so forth) to see its synergies. All of this done and played in pvp as well, and yes i challenged myself to find the most impactful build i could scrap for every single day.
I have used every meta build there is for Engineer too.

In wvw i learned Positioning. Yes, positioning, because in those battlegrounds you die if you don’t position well and “control” the enemy aoe spam in front of you from hitting you, or you die.
I learned how to use my aoes wisely at all ranges, where being me an old school Grenade kit main user it helped me greatly. And yes, the mortar is the old grenade kit with full traits!

So yeah, build choices are just my opinion from my journeys! Liked your Feedback Pvt Frosty.

I am an almost exclusive 3 year engineer user (4k hours at least into the class, pve mastery 100, sPVP Rank 80 in Legendary also known as Division 6 and x1 midway) that is in love with PvP (and engineer), who is looking for a Serious and Competitive sPVP Team to take the fights to the ESL, PRO Leagues, and anything else that you can think of.
My English is at least 4/5 in all fronts. I do like to use TS and i do have TS usage experience. I would consider myself as an extremely competitive player all around who is dedicated and addicted to that healthy competitive adrenaline.

Why i made this choice? Simple. After 3 years invested into this game and loving the game as a whole in all game modes (pvp, combat and engineer), I decided that i wanted to take this to the next level and invest that time into something productive with actual impact in my life.

However…i wanted your opinion to see in my recorded video if i am Tournament material.

As the title describes, I am an almost exclusive 3 year engineer user (4k hours at least into the class, pve mastery 100, sPVP Rank 80 in Legendary also known as Division 6 and x1 midway) that is in love with PvP (and engineer), who is looking for a Serious and Competitive sPVP Team to take the fights to the ESL, PRO Leagues, and anything else that you can think of.
My English is at least 4/5 in all fronts. I do like to use TS and i do have TS usage experience. I would consider myself as an extremely competitive player all around who is dedicated and addicted to that healthy competitive adrenaline.

Why i made this choice? Simple. After 3 years invested into this game and loving the game as a whole in all game modes (pvp, combat and engineer), I decided that i wanted to take this to the next level and invest that time into something productive with actual impact in my life.

Proficient Classes: Engineer. Familiar (5/10 Rating) with the 8 main classes. Only played Revenant for 10 minutes for an overall feel of the skills.
Tournament Experience (eg. AG, ESL, 2v2s, etc…): Did not participate in tournaments yet but trained hard since the games betas.
Time Zone: GMT + 0
Availability: Anytime

Hey. Hmm, from a perspective of a spvp player, the balance changes to skills were great along with the much needed amulet replacement update. Very satisfied with the depth you are bringing to the Engineer class by the way.

From the perspective of a pve player, the update on gliding and shaterer was good.

From the perspective of a wvw player (to where i would “take my glory to” from pve and spvp) it was a positive step forward…but the game mode is dead…
Actually went to pve to get that new Trailblazer stat set for wvw…but there is no wvw. Soooo…yeah.

In conclusion: Currently demoralized

I support Diku in his/her proposal. I am not a forum person but currently the darkness in the game mode that i love is getting too dense. This proposal is something that i wanted for a long time actually, and even thought was in place or was to come sooner.

As a 3 year Gw2 EU player I play pretty much any content, being it pve (mastery 69), wvw (rank 644) and spvp (Ruby and rank 80). I am mainly a serious combat lover on the engineer class. It is true that back in year one i transffered servers due to wvw population imbalance in seafarer’s rest, but was for a very short time. This experiment was made in an NA server actually, and it wasn’t as different or scary of a test that i thought it would be.

I’m speaking for two people at least when i agree on this proposal. Would truly love to be able to play with my real life friends again who are scattered through different servers…being most of them (at least 6) offline and demoralized by not being able to play wvw with their friends…

Great. Now i can’t even use my support build anymore. clap clap clap Oh, was super elixir buffed!? It’s still useless because it’s localized healing and you know that people move away from it not to get bursted down in. Screw this, i’m going back to guardian.
