I moved the GW2.app thing to the trash along w/ the app support folder for guild wars 2 and emptied the trash.
I also used OnyX to clean up my computer.
I am redownloading the client now. 342,443 files remaining.
dies slowly inside
Give me a few days to give you an update XD
Interesting. Leaving it running definitely does not work. Left it running while I went on my 6 hour shift and no change in files remaining, but 2.3-2.4GB downloaded…. The hell is going on here?!
Changing the language simply closes and restarts the client in the chosen language. Doesn’t help me though. Probably going to just redownload the whole client…..
So nobody has any ideas? Nobody else has ever encountered this issue before?
UPDATE:
Attempted deletion of the app support folder for GW2. Did not help, though the files remaining now says 8502.
Unless each of these files is several gigabytes/tens to hundreds of megabytes of data, I assume this should not be happening?
Hello all!
I have a 3.4 gHz iMac with 4GB V-RAM, 16 GB RAM, etc. etc.
I am attempting to download/install the update on my slowish internet and have encountered several issues.
Whenever I try to update my client, it frequently hangs at a certain “files remaining” value and does not go down, no matter how much it actually ends up downloading. For example, it is hanging at 8505 files remaining and the files remaining count does not go down. For reference, I started today at 8511 and let it download 1.6 GB of data to my computer. When I came back to the computer, it was still at 8511. Closed the launcher, reopened, and it said something like 8509. Now it says 8505 after closing/reopening again.
I of course also have the common issue where it says 0KB/sec for periods of time or is just really, really slow overall. This is likely due to servers being overloaded w/ download requests so I’m not really worried about that.
However, I would like to actually get this update to download. I’ve been attempting to download on and off since it was released on the 23rd and am still dealing with this.
Attempting to repair the client results in many errors such as the following:
Oct 27 15:38:48 cider1300 <Warning>: void CGSUpdateManager::log() const: 31 libuser32.dylib 0×75c40620 UserClientDllInitialize + 480
The number after DLLinitialize + xxx has a different number in each of the line errors as well as the number after const: xx.
Any ideas? I will attempt to delete the app. support folder for the game to get the launcher to rebuild itself and come back with the results on that, but I’m unsure if it will help much. I would have to restore hotkeys, which could be a pain…I’d rather avoid that.
I’ve tested it out and found it to be, in my opinion, actually running a bit better. It is slightly noticeable, but I personally feel as though there has been a slight performance improvement compared to where it was at previously.
I’m running on a 2013 iMac w/ 3.4 gHz processor, 4GB VRAM, 16GB RAM, etc. etc.
I see a slight FPS increase even in lions arch with graphics completely maxed out. LA has always been slow, and still is. But I can play on max graphics there on occasion with FPS up to 14 whereas on medium-near high I’d get maybe 11. More noticeable improvement out in the world with max graphics easily netting me 60-70 fps in low populated areas. WvW I always do on low graphics due to bug issues and crashing that has always been there, but I think there is still a bit of an improvement there to.
New bugs have come up, however. I’m getting occasional “model leaks detected” crashes now, sometimes/usually when I quit the game for the night/rest of the day. Didn’t get these before. However, crashing is definitely no more than what it was on the previous OS. Golden Master is extremely stable right now and I’ve noticed a SIGNIFICANT performance improvement on my mac as a whole. MILEAGE WILL VARY depending on computer specs, though. My perceived performance improvement (I went into this whole thing not really thinking there would be much of an improvement) may be just that; a perception. It may not be reality. The point still stands that during an LA night cycle I can stand looking at the mystic toilet/forge on max graphics and get 20-25 FPS. Turning and moving of course slows it down, but there ya go.
One can only hope. Has anyone tried the game on OS 10.11 El Capitan? It is very near it’s last phases of the beta I believe.
Ok, has A-net been testing out el-capitan? Will transgaming include coding for metal in the cider wrapper?
Well…there was ONE graphics related fix for the mac (not really).
Please feel free to send mails to people if you have any questions! Hopefully Geo was able to answer the questions you had, Metalknuxx.
NeuroMuse. Anything yet? Doubt we’ll hear back for a while from anyone really lol. Would like to get a good idea on stability of the game on El Capitan before I try downloading it.
Bump! We’re still looking for good guilds to join our ranks! We’re fighting hard to stay where we’re at!
Same. I already tried talking with a-net but we really weren’t getting anywhere so I gave up. Mostly gave up because reducing shadows and shaders to lowest settings reduced the crashing by a lot. Still happens though.
Hey NeuroMuse, have you gotten the chance to test out the imac system I talked about? Anything similar (even just the year of the imac) could probably work. Just wondering! I’m sure you’re quite busy.
Has anyone else tried out El Capitan? I’ll probably check back here with a new post whenever the beta gets another release (if I keep up to date in knowledge of releases).
IoJ is still looking for some good guilds to join our ranks! We are a really friendly community and would LOVE to see some new faces!
Follow the MAC repair instructions here: https://help.guildwars2.com/entries/28148006-Repairing-the-Game-Client
Remember to follow the mac instructions, don’t try the windows instructions.
If that does not work, or it does not repair and/or just sits there on your dock (board at the bottom), drag GW2 from your application’s folder to the trash. Then click on the desktop so you have Finder active. Holding “option,” click on the “go” menu, go to library, then go to application support. Drag the GW2 folder to the trash. Redownload the game anew. This will delete any settings you once had for the game and returns it all to default values, but it can also resolve any other technical issues you may have had with the game. For me it has decreased crashing and significantly raised FPS to do so.
Very interesting!
I have a 2013 imac. Base model; 4gb vram, 16gb ram, and a 3 TB fusion drive are the only things that are different about it from a regular base model. If you have something like that, please let me know how well it performs!
Interesting notes about the hanging times and frame drops. Could be background processes running that aren’t quite efficient yet for El Capitan, but we’ll see.
Sadly, unless A-net creates a full mac client and takes advantage of Metal, it won’t take full advantage of all the performance increases. However, if the mac will use less resources to run it’s OS by itself, that means there will be more resources to devote to the game. I don’t really force any big problems with compatibility, though. Not too many overhaul changes. Just a bunch of graphics/performance increases.
I’m sure there will be a better forum post sometime down the line, and I have no idea if this post will even survive in the forums in terms of popularity/usage, but here it is.
An unofficial “official” thread about OS 10.11 “El Capitan” and GW2.
The public beta is out as of yesterday (or the day before). I was wondering how stable it’s been for you guys and whether or not GW2 runs well/better on the new operating system compared to the current build of Yosemite.
Yes, I know it is in beta. I know there will be numerous OS-related issues to resolve for Apple, and probably at least a few compatibility issues for A-net to resolve. Just wondering if anyone had installed El Capitan and whether or not GW2 runs well. What bugs have you seen so far?
Very early for this considering how early El Capitan was released for the public beta, but still. Figured I’d ask now.
I mean I guess so. We will see what happens. Since they won’t be making a mac port, I doubt they’d ever try making a modification using Metal in OS 10.11.
Looks like metal is coming to the mac! I do not know how this applies to guild wars 2, as things are run through an emulator, but still. The graphics card IS still used and rendering still uses mac software to be done.
To both staff and other Mac players, do you guys think mac will start playing GW2 a bit better?
It IS a CPU intensive game, but it still uses GPU and graphics. Since metal decreases CPU strain, I figure it might help.
You can try rebuilding the game files. Be sure to follow the instructions CAREFULLY: https://help.guildwars2.com/entries/28148006-Repairing-the-Game-Client
You can also try waiting a while to see if it starts back up again, if you have the patience for it anyway.
Also, submit a ticket to support. They may be able to help you in a more specialized fashion. Hope this helps!
Well that sucks. I guess it makes sense why I’m getting the performance I am getting, as the videos were around one year old each. Hopefully they will optimize the game at some point. And hopefully, maybe one day far in the future, they will release a true mac port of this game. That would require large amounts of work, I’m sure.
I would greatly like to know if everyone is getting the performance I’m getting.
Well, like I said, there were people with my build playing at 60-30 FPS on youtube so I’m wondering if it may be something else?
Does anyone else have any input?
I just got a brand new 27" Late 2013 iMac with a 3TB Fusion drive, 16GB of RAM, 3.4ghz Processor, and the 780M graphics card from Nvidia.
I am consistently getting 30-40 FPS in regular areas, and in some areas 20-30 FPS. World bosses nail me to 10-20 FPS which is like my old computer did during those bosses (it was an early 2011 macbook pro).
All settings are on high/highest. I’ve seen videos using my set up playing GW2 and getting consistently 60 FPS in normal areas, and not too much smaller in busier areas.
How many FPS do you guys get? Am I getting what is expected? Let me know if you need more info.
How did the updates download? Were there any problems downloading any updates? I have a mac myself as well.
Try the usual trouble shooting steps:
Restart game
Restart computer (turn off completely for like 30 seconds or something and turn back on)
Pretty much anything else like this if you can think of it.
Here are instructions on repairing your game client, which is what sounds like there problem is: https://help.guildwars2.com/entries/28148006-Repairing-the-Game-Client
It really could be a problem with the client rather than the computer, assuming it ran fine last time. If repairing the client or anything else doesn’t work out, you may have to redownload (I know…it’ll suck….). I NEVER want to have to redownload anything.
Also, how long do you typically wait before giving up on it starting up properly? I have kitten and it goes past the black screen and on to character select fairly quickly.
Also, is there any music or does it just flat out fail to load up? The latest update broke different parts of the game for different people, so a redownload or a repair might be needed.
If none of this ends up helping you, I suggest putting in a ticket. They have been good w/ tickets in the past, at least for me: https://help.guildwars2.com/anonymous_requests/new
Let me know if it helps!
Does nobody else have this issue? I’m sure I’m not the only one. Either way, I hope that this helps ANET figure stuff out.
I too had the FPS issue regarding the UI. The latest update, as of March 24th, has caused my game to crash whenever I am doing a world boss or whenever I am doing PvP in my guild’s PvP server. My graphics settings have been the same since i got the game, but I reduced post-processing from Low to None. I did a full Teq run with no problems, but it started acting up during megadestroyer and Fire Elemental. A lot, actually.
Is anyone else having this bug? My system specs:
1TB Crucial SSD
16GB Crucial RAM
2.2 GHz Intel processor
1GB VRAM on a AMD Radeon HD 6750M
This problem did not appear until after this latest patch. Let me know if you need any more information from me.
More evidence for a UI problem:
I usually play at an OK 25-35 FPS on my Macbook Pro:
2.2 GHZ processor (I-something, can’t remember what exactly).
16GB RAM
1GB video memory through a Radeon chip (I think).
Now I play at 10-15, sometimes 8-10 FPS. An incredible drop for me personally. When I completely disable All UI elements I go to 35-42 FPS.
Really? My ping is 130 average….
Look on the forms! There was recently an update that broke parts of the game. Also, their servers are getting swamped right now because of the people updating.
1. Go to the LFG/friends list tool
2. Go to your name.
3. Set status as invisible
4: set back to online
You’ll have to do this with each toon. I don’t know if you have to do this each time you log in.
Temporary fix: go to the LFG tool, select your icon and set yourself to invisible, then turn back to online. Fixed for now.
Same problem. Could be their servers getting destroyed or it could be the patch. Not sure witch. Maybe even both.
If you have a Mac, I thought it didn’t use exe files.
I have a mac myself. I have never heard of this error though. This seems to be an issue with the fact that you’re opening a PC file on the Mac. The first post seems to be for PC and the second might as well. Are you trying to run it through a cider wrapper? The Mac client already does this. Perhaps you need to download the mac client instead. Either way maybe reinstalling might be your best bet.
Unless of course you have been using the Mac client fine until this point in which case I’m not sure what’s happening.
Yeah I got that error message too. Support people said it is a heat issue, but I doubt it.
I got it too. I actually got it 2 times in the same day. It isn’t rare, but it happens. How hot does your mac get? According to Temperature monitor, it gets between 88-99 Degrees Celsius (The processor, that is). However, as hot as that seems, the intel processors on the macbook pros (Mine is a 2011, so I’m not sure if this applies to everyone) can tolerate up to 105 degrees C before it shuts off to prevent damage. The reason I’m talking about temperature is that Arenanet told me to download it so they could see how hot it was getting. The support person diagnosed my crashing issue as a heat issue, stating that 93 degrees C was the breakdown point of most hardware.
I also got another error message that said something about sphere tolerance a long time ago. Did anyone else get this?
I had the same problem. Make sure you are entering your email in for the “Account Name” section (Not sure how an email counts as an account name, but there you go).
So I should expect the performance fox mentioned on the beta client? Thanks!
Also, I am now at 75% O.o. Download jumped a ton overnight.
Another quick question. To actually do season 2 living story content, I need to buy it? Or do I need to buy it only for rewards?
Ok cool! Great to hear! Two more questions.
What about PvP? WvW? I understand that any content involving tons of people at once shooting skills and everything WILL slow things down. Also, PvP will be a very long way off for me (though I understand that you can do PvP and be scaled to lvl 80).
Do you use the Mac Beta client at all? I don’t think I’ll be doing bootcamp (I can’t justify the purchase of Windows OS at the moment).
Hello!
I have just started downloading GW2 for my Macbook Pro (Early 2011 version). Specs are below. I was wondering what kind of performance I should expect given my machine specs? I am completely new to GW2, by the way. Assuming I would have to play at completely low settings, how bad will the game look? The client will take another 5,000 years to complete (7 hours into the download and I am at 14% (nearly 4GB, Around 180-220 kb/s, ~245,000 files remaining).
