Title says it all…random lag spike while purchasing trait books (because running across the world for every trait traits is not something I feel like doing for days), and now I have duplicates. The vendor doesn’t let you sell them back, and they’re class-specific…is there any way to get a refund on the skill points used? It’s going to take me forever to re-farm those points back, if not.
Thanks in advance for any support,
Svardenboomer
OK, so for the first guild API release, this is what I’m considering:
/v1/guild_details.json?guild_id=xxxx
Would return name, tag, and emblem data.
The emblem would be in the form
“%i, %i, %i, %i, %i, %i”
background ID, foreground ID, flags, color 0, color 1, color 2
flags define things like flip image horizontally or verticallylike “1,62,0,114,114,93”
At some point we’d like to be able to render images on our servers so that you don’t have to, but that’s not available yet. I know there are some emblem creator websites and apps already — is this enough information to feed into those so that you can generate emblems?
Also, if you have any other ideas for public information that would be useful that could go into this API, let me know. Your ideas for authenticated/private APIs are good — this thread will be a useful reference for when we have the ability to implement them.
Is there any planned implementation for examining the deposit/withdrawal history for money/items into the guild bank? My guild does a lottery every week where we deposit 10s per “entry” into the lottery, and our poor guild leader and office go through and tally it all up…which can get tedious. If I was able to grab the list of deposits, sort it by time since deposit, and go back 7 days, I’d have my entries in a list and then could just choose a random number, pick that entry in the list, get the username, and “boom”!
Thanks for clarifying! That’s what I get for “assuming” ;-)
I"m not even sure how to use a wrapper, but I see your point ;-) I’m going to start messing with it tomorrow evening and will hopefully be able to make something simple. Thanks for the advice, everyone!
Obviously reading the API documentation is the way to go to get started with utilizing the API for GW2, but so far it doesn’t make much sense and seems extremely limiting.
For example, looking at https://api.guildwars2.com/v1/items.json, how is this called from within a program written in C# (as an example)? It returns a list of item IDs, but what can we do with that? Is it returned like as an object, with properties that we can access (item.Name, item.Type, item.minDPS, item.maxDPS, etc)?
What if we want to search for a specific item? According to this list of API documentation (https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/community/api/API-Documentation/first#post2028044), there isn’t anything for gathering item IDs that a player may have equipped (say, if for some reason I wanted to retrieve my currently equipped weapon).
There doesn’t seem anything in place to do something like parse the chat log, either. I just re-joined the game after being gone since December, and it looks as if ArenaNet STILL has not added the option to have multiple chat windows up. Yes, we can make new tabs, but for people who want to look at the combat log AND the chat log, our only option is to constantly pop back and forth between tabs, OR unfilter combat from the chat log (making it all a huge mess).
I was rather hoping that at some point, we’d be able to create a small window in game, that read the contents of the combat log and redirected that information to the new window, thus working around the “boxed in” constraint that the game comes with (on top of the fact that, at high resolutions, the chat box is way too small and needs to have an option to resize it).
In fact, it looks like there isn’t ANY documentation at all to support the idea that we’re allowed to “play around” with the interface, beyond WvW, guilds, and items/recipes.
Perhaps I thought that there would be more available. Other than tracking stats in WvWvW, beta Guild info, and listing all items and recipes (probably on a web site), what is there that’s available for someone who truly wants to make an addon for the game?
Am I looking at this with expectations beyond what the intended purpose of this feature is (the GW2 API)?
Cheers!
I typically develop in C# and ASP.NET (lately, in the MVC 4 framework), and am only just getting started with jQuery, JSON, and using Ajax. That being said, I have done some work back in the day with a couple of very minor addons for Warhammer Online and one for World of Warcraft (mainly just recording chat, parsing it for a string, and then sounding a chime). Going through the API that is now available in GW2, I would like to get started in it, but am not sure where to start.
Could someone please lend their expertise and advise, or even throw up a small example of how to utilize the information that’s been given to us?
Thanks, and sorry for any inconveniences.
Wow, thanks for that ;-) The only thing that I would wish for in an “example” would be more comments (that was some pretty intense math being used, without an explanation of what was going on), but perhaps that’s more because I’m still new to the realm of JSON, etc, and have never used an API before in my life. Well done, though!
That video is wonderful, if a bit long (but hey, who can blame it?). I’m about 52 minutes into it ;-) To start the Southsun story, just follow the little quest pop-up in the game, right?
Apparently I was wrong, my Thief and Guardian are max level, my Ranger and Warrior are late 20’s, mid 30’s. I guess people still level by spamming the events, because I logged in to the centaurs attacking the bridge again, and about 30 people ran around the corner ;-)
Oh, pardon me. While browsing the site on my phone, I didn’t see those (the titles tend to get cut due to screen size), and the page wouldn’t load all posts. Thank you for the schooling, it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside o.0.
I haven’t been in game for quite a while, and was wondering what major changes have come about? When I left, Fractals were the “new thing”, but was a huge pain in the rump because everyone had to be at or past an equal fractal level as the lowest person in the group. Other than that, there were three dragons to run back and forth to kill when bored (who never seemed to drop anything good), or try to find (at the time, somewhat unwilling) groups to run the dungeons to get the “end game” armor…I can’t remember what it was called, but all sets had the same stats for your class, but the design was different based on which dungeon you grinded out the currency for in order to get it.
So what’s happened since then? I’m interested in playing again (nothing else to do at the moment), and when I left i had a max level Guardian, Warrior, Ranger, and Thief. Have they increased the storyline at all? Any particular hard nerfs or boosts to specific jobs or abilities? What do you all do for fun when playing these days?
Cheers!
Change your sound quality in settings from High to Normal (or whatever the next-lowest setting is). I had a question about this on these forums, and the response that I got was what fixed it.
I agree. Even without a hand injury, lobbing grenades on my engineer with no auto attack can get pretty painful 12345, 123, 12, 12345 lol!
I have a Logitech G510 and would love some macros! I’ve got 18 keys sitting around for it :-\
Very funny! I wanted to play an Engineer, but it was just too hard. Ranger has F1 to pet attack, F2 for pet special attack, F3 to return to the Ranger, and F4 to swap pets. It’s so hard to use them, and I don’t have enough keys near my uninjured hand to rebind those 4 + dodge + other keys.
I was hoping to have a response because it’s just irresponsible for a developer to make a game, when the hardware is available and widely used to do this, then give us canned responses and rhetorical questions to ask ourselves on whether we think it is allowed or not. Because obviously, my opinion could differ from ArenaNet’s. And in the case that I actually do this, and our opinions DO differ…well…I don’t want to have my account banned because of it (thus, the irresponsibility of the developer to state whether circumstances like mine are valid or not).
What’s funny is that even with keyboard macros on the Logitech…I still do less damage than someone 3 levels lower than me, haha!
To the moderator who locked my previous thread after giving a link to the policies thread…Thank you for the information. I wanted to say this in that thread, however you locked it for…reasons unknown?
I wanted to ask a further question about the policies that were stated in that thread:
• “Does this program allow someone to play faster, better, longer, or more accurately than someone who doesn’t use it?”
• “Does this program allow someone to ‘play’ when he/she is not at the computer?”
• “Does this program allow the user to gain undeserved rewards?”
With a permanent hand injury, having to repeat keystrokes tends to get painful after 15 minutes or so. With my Guardian it was mostly auto attack, with a rare use of other skills. But with my Ranger, it seems the only way to have a good damage rotation up is to use #3, #2, then #1 for auto attacking until #2 is finished cooling down (this is with a longbow). I chose Ranger, as I figured it would be easier to play with a pet to “tank” for me, so I don’t die so much from slow movement in the game on the melee classes.
My reason for asking about keyboard macros was to ask if I could use a macro that would hit the #3 button, then #2, then #1. There aren’t any decision-making processes available to the keyboard as it doesn’t actually talk to the game at all. It just hits keys in that order, with a time delay if specified (probably about 4 seconds after hittin #2, as it is a channeled ability).
Doing this doesn’t allow me to play faster, better, longer, or more accurately than someone who doesn’t use it (I’m still slow). It doesn’t allow me to play when I’m not at the computer. And it doesn’t allow me to gain undeserved rewards.
Could I get a definitive answer? To my interpretation, it wouldn’t violate those three rules that were posted (not even a “maybe”), but I obviously don’t want to try to make my gaming experience better for myself, only to have my $60 original license key + $50 in the gem store be tossed to the wind, so to speak.
I would like to know if anyone has heard from ArenaNet on whether or not they allow Logitech users to use the built-in macro system for the keyboards? Obviously, “botting” by automatically having the keyboard automate movement would be a ban-able offense, but what about for simple things such as using specific skills in a certain order?
Bumpitty-bump-bump-bump? Anyone?
Typographie, your answer worked great! Thank you! 4 dragons down and no sound shennanigans at all. That is very much appreciated!
@Marmalade – yea, but I’ve got the latest drivers ;-(
@Typographie – I’ll try that now, and go kill the next dragon that spawns!
So far, this has only happened when I’m at the Dragons: Tequatl the Sunless, The Shatterer, and Claw of Jormag. Sometimes it happens as they land and are roaring, sometimes it happens when they roar mid-fight, and sometimes it happens as they roar before they die. But it is always at the Dragons!
My sound will cut out, and I get this “whurrr, whurrr, whurrr” beeping sound in my speakers/headphones. It’s not fast, probably about one “whurr” per second. This happens both with headphones and speakers, and (GET THIS) it happens ONLY on the LEFT speaker/headphone.
It’s driving me nuts, because, if I’m playing with speakers on, I have to listen to this crap for the rest of the event (or just mute the speakers), but this is a pain because I use the audible queues that the Dragons give to determine what I’m going to do (whether he’s breathing, etc). If I have my headphones on, I have to push the left “ear muff” behind my ear so I don’t hear it anymore.
I have on-board sound, and all drivers are up to date.
Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-Z77X-UD5H
Motherboard Sound: 8 Channel, Realtek ALC898
Anyone have any ideas? I have scoured my event logs, and nothing is listed there. I have disabled every non-critical service in Windows 7, and it still happens. I’m not playing anything else in the background.
This is what I did on my Guardian, Diamond Rat:
Levels 1-2
Did a few hearts.
Levels 2-18
Mad King Dungeon
Level 18-25
Crafting (Artificing 1-390), some Personal Story.
Level 25 – 45
Harathi Hinterlands events:
Event #1 – Kol The SkullSmasher (Champ giant event in a cave). Event starts when the Shining Guard Kimber is outside the cave. Talk to her and she’ll run inside. She may or may not just run in there anyway and die…sometimes I see her outside, sometimes she’s already dead. You can solo this champ as ranged (with a root/snare/stun), but it is going to take you nearly an hour, and you better have a way to refill endurance (sigils, traits, etc).
Event #2 – Kol dies, revive Kimber, she’ll lead you through the cave to kill some slimes. Easy.
Event #3 – Kimber’s friend opens a secret glowing passage in the back of the cave, which leads to the Centaur “war council”. Kill the 3 veteran centaurs (a melee, a ranged, and a shaman).
Event #4 – Unrelated to the cave, but close to the “war council” anyway, run to the main Centaur camp with the big gate that keeps the humans out. Start that chain, which is for releasing guards (i think).
Event #5 – Guards are released, assault the gate to attack the centaurs.
Event #6 – Kill the centaur warbeasts (champions, if i remember correctly. There are 3).
Event #7 – Kill the Centaur warlord. (I may be missing one event between 6 and 7).
Levels 45-60
Bloodtide risen event:
16 minutes total to run.
12:00 PM – Defend chief from risen.
12:04 PM – Chief defended. Talk to NPC near the armor repair guy.
12:05 PM – Griffon Egg hunt starts.
12:09 PM – Griffon Egg hunt ends. Run back to town.
12:17 PM ~ 12:19 PM Defend the Chief starts again.
Levels 60-70
Personal Story, Crafting, Map Completion.
Levels 70-80
Lonely Post event chain in Orr.
For future characters, I’ll get to level 15 by clearing the first map or two, then run events in the third map until 25 and I can do the rest just as I posted above. I hope it helps.
Title states the question. I’m fairly certain that this isn’t a good build to run in WvW as it’s not doing much for the team. Hell, it’s not doing much for the team in sPvP except for letting someone pound on my shield while I burn them for it…
This is my first build, but the goal was to make use of Defender’s Flame (100% burn on block) to maintain pressure while in the fight. Fiery Wrath (10% damage vs burning foes) complements this. With all of the +Condition damage (981) in the build, I’m thinking that this would put Burning up as a great source of damage. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to get Supreme Justice (Virtue of Justice burns on 4th attack instead of 5th), but hopefully this will be offset from Defender’s Flame.
Signet of Judgement will decrease the amount of incoming damage, while also being able to give retaliation and weaken my enemy (mob or player). Stand Your Ground and Hold the Line offer 11 seconds of total regeneration, as well as stability and protection when used, not to mention Aegis giving retaliation when it ends. And Shouts and Signets both recharge 20% faster, so my healing will come off cooldown faster.
I went with Signet of Resolve for condition removal and because it’s a much larger heal than Shelter, and I’m still on the fence about whether or not 2 seconds of block (and thus, burning) is worth it for half the heal of SoR…if I’m low enough to have to depend on it in a fight, I’m probably still going to die because 2s of block isn’t going to save me except to let me flee.
Anyway, I just wanted to get an opinion. Keep in mind it’s for PvE and MAYBE sPvP (hot join, I don’t have a team). I understand Greatsword is better, but I’m wanting to go Sword/Board “because I miss it”, and because GS is getting kind of old, lol.
Trait Summary

I’m not taking time off of work for this. I still don’t understand why Arena Net would hold an event at 3PM PST (when, arguable, even people who are in that time zone are just getting off of work). I figure it’s probably because that’s when the largest population of players are on, but how many of those are frakking (yea, re-re-re-re-re-watching Battlestar Galactica, lol) children who just got out of school. What about the adults who are purchasing your gems on a regular basis? About the people who (for most of us) pay the cost of the game for these school children (assuming anyone in here plays with their children).
So nope, while I’ll take part in the event and I <3 the crap out of Arena Net, I will not be taking time off. I should be able to make the Saturday/Sunday events, but not the Friday one. Hell, even Blizzard wasn’t as numb in the brain to hold an event that early in the day.
I just want to know where the gods went. I mean, they’re friggin’ “gods”, right? So gods vs dragons, they should be able to win, right? And if the gods were present at creation and created the worlds, then…should be a cinch to kill the dragons. Or may be I’m missing something.
How about using mini pets instead of the normal ones? This would give the mini pets more purpose than just a collectible in a bank. Also:
Thank you for linking the video. I didn’t see one in a quick YT search, but this is exactly what I was describing in my post up top:
[[Yea, but in the southernmost section of Lion’s Arch, there’s a little mini arena type thing with two “mini pets” in it. So what is THAT for?]]

Greetings,
I had this ‘awesome bug’ on sunday. It was so cool, similar to WoW option. I hope it will be added to option someday
Indeed, my one major complaint with the FoV was that I couldn’t zoom out a bit to see more.

This is great, however it seems to make my text hard to read. I play at max resolution, and shopping in the TP last night was painful because I could barely read the letters; it’s not that they were too small, but rather it seemed that parts of the letters were missing (so an O would look like a C or U). I’ll try to get a screenshot when I get home from work tonight and post it up.
Read the forums. There are literally tons of posts. Lowell’s ultimate pvp guide is dated, but good: http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/45902-lowells-ultimate-spvp-thief-guide-wip/ and it has a ton of builds in it.
I’d say just go with a S/D or S/P setup and see how it goes.
Yo dawg, I heard you like stealth. Now you can stealth while in stealth to give your stealth stealth.
The cool thing is…this is true ;-)
@Noctred: So they found a counter to your counter. Get back to the drawing board and find a new counter. Overcoming onstacles is how metas grow. Much like how overcoming obstacles makes us grow as people.
It’s not a counter to anything. I don’t think you understand what is being said.
The current meta typically involves a mesmer on home point who can leave a portal and then go team fight mid. If anybody is seen going for a backcap, the mesmer ports back home and stops the neut. However, it’s also possible to have other classes fill this role if your team’s map vision is good enough.
With shadow refuge granting as much stealth as it does, thieves can avoid all vision and simply show up on the enemy team’s home point completely unannounced. This effectively makes mesmers the ONLY valid home point defenders who can also assist in other areas of the map, because they’re the only ones who can make it back in time to stop the neut on home. If you place another class on your home while the opposing team has a mesmer on their home, then your team will be fighting 4v5 because your home point defender will need to sit there 24/7.
This effectively reinforces the already existing meta of putting a portal mesmer on your home point. It prevents the meta from evolving.
Does that make more sense?
So essentially, you’re complaining about a class who is defined by it’s ability to be “sneaky” (in every game out there involving the class…even FFXI had “Hide” for Thieves). You’re complaining that you can’t see someone traversing the map, and you want them to be out in the open like a normal kittening warrior (or kittened Ranger)?
You sir, are a tool. There is nothing wrong with Shadow Refuge, and I’m glad that they finally fixed the stealth-on-leaving bug. If you stealth in it and don’t leave, you get mauled by any smart player. If you see little “shadow swirlies” on the map and don’t see anyone there, that’s a Thief…attack it and all will be well when he hits you and pops.
Other than that, stop complaining. You can’t bunker with thief (well, you can, but not very well), and pretty much all other classes have more effective health than a Thief. Once Thief pops SR, HiS, there goes his heals. Sure, he can CnD or combo into stealth for minor heal (trait), but it’s not much…and the smartest thing to do when you see stealth is move out of the way.
After reading both pages, I still see no reason why you complain about Shadow Refuge. There are far more gimmicky skills out there. And for us Thieves who don’t play D/D Jinzu Burst Builds (or whatever they’re called now), Shadow Refuge is a very strong tool in keeping us alive.
I play a Norn Thief (“Svardenblarg”, Jade Quarry). We get the blur-role as well.
Q: What is a "bunker"? Is it only certain classes and builds, or is it an Engineer item?
in PvP

Thank you all for your responses. I wish that there was also a “helpful post” flag instead of only the “Answer”, as they all helped. In the end, it came down to TGSlasher also elaborating on how I can find out if I am indeed fighting a bunker (and thus wasting my time, where I should move off somewhere else to be more beneficial to the group). Thanks!
I would like to propose that ArenaNet set up a system so that characters can have 2, or even 3, trait builds available. With the flux in fight mechanics between Word Vs World, Structure PvP, and Tournament PvP, this is something that we sorely need.
Joining any one of these PvP game types results in having to waste time resetting traits to what they should optimally be for the particular build (WvW, sPvP, tPvP) as well as re-applying runes and sigils to ensure that we are prepared.
I know that Thieves get a lot of hate on the forums, and I only just started doing PvP a few days ago. However…
In WvW I am NOT going to go in there with my Pistol/Dagger condition build. If I do, it won’t be the same traits…I’d probably sacrifice dodge and survivability in order to get Venomous Aura in order to share my poisons with my guild/team.
In sPvP I will either run my Pistol/Dagger condition build, or a Sword/Dagger “melee” build (it’s not a glass canon backstab thing, but does damage and provides suvivability).
In tPvP I will (probably, haven’t found a team yet) probably go with a scouting Dagger/Dagger build in order to scout around the map and pick of people of low health, while providing support with my Shortbow from afar.
I’m glad that our PvE traits and PvP traits are separate ( at least, in HotM it’s free to re-trait ), it would be a lovely thing if we could just select a predefined trait setup. Just put that bad boy at the top of the Traits window and let us pick Setup 1, Setup 2, Setup 3.
And please, for your love of whatever gods that you believe in (or whichever pizza topping is best, should you lack belief in make-believe creatures, as I do), please do not charge us some stupid amount of gold for something that is a game feature and not an “item”! I hated this in all other MMOs, and there are tons of money sinks in this game already
Sincerely,
Me ;-)

Thank you all very much for answering. For Bunzy.8674…thank you for the very general description of what it was. I would never have known that, being a 32 year old man who previously served in a military. The question was obviously about GW2, as it was posted in GW2’s forum community, within the Structured PvP sub forum. But hey, whatever.
Thanks, all! So I guess if I notice this, just leave the bunker person alone then?

I am being serious! A lot of players today mentioned this, and a coworker of mine was complaining about it, however I had to stop the chit-chat and head off to work in another building, so I wasn’t able to ask him. So yes…what is it?
I play a Thief (P/D, D/D non-glass cannon, S/W), and I’m not sure if I’ve seen this yet in team play…but then again, I’ve only been playing in the PvP area for two days.
Cheers!
Holy crap, I use the same build! While Lan is correct (nice name, btw) in that your fights are fairly boring, there’s a sort of satisfaction to be had while lithely dodging and rolling around the battlefield bringing opponents down one at a time. A defiant “i just killed 3 of you, 1 at a time, so thar!”, if you will.
I disagree that it’s purely for 1v1, though. If you go far enough to get Venomous Aura (30 points in Shadow Arts), it does great because the team now applies effects to whoever they’re fighting, slowing them down, reducing endurance regen, dealing damage, etc. I haven’t tested to see if Basilisk venom gets shared or not, but if it does that can potentially be friggin’ awesome!
The points for sharing are:
Deadly Arts (25): IV and VIII
Shadow Arts (30): VI, IX, and XII
Acrobatics (15): III, Feline Grace (2nd minor trait).
Lots of mobility, shared conditions across the team. I stack Afflicted up to 5 runes with the last being either +vitality or +condition damage, Carrion jewel in my Amulet, and Corruption/Life sigils on my weapons. ~300 or so +condition damage, and rocking it up in the sPvP last night. I’ll see if it holds up tonight with more pvp.
I think that Knyx has a point, however Stealth isn’t a garaunteed safety net either. Sure, you blind people when you stealth, but you can still be hit in stealth. I think that factor puts stealth and dodge on-par with each other (dodge giving Might and returning Endurance, Stealth blinding and healing). To each their own, I guess.
This is my first post in the forums (other than some minor troubleshooting I had to do last week), but the build that I have been using is this: http://www.guildhead.com/skill-calc#mckMz9mMMwvmMMwhMx0GG0mRboscR8kiO7kiU7kiO7070M7kuB70m7kNo7owZ. I stumbled into Pistol/Pistol about two weeks ago and loved Unload, but it just didn’t do a lot of damage. I find that Cloak and Dagger does decent damage on top of also stealthing me so that I can use the sneak attack version of Vital Shot. I’ve got about 300-ish +condition damage on me in sPvP. Last night, a guild mate ankittenpt flip-flopping between teams and had a blast, but in most cases I came out on top of everyone else in the match! It was pretty amazing, and I did this all night until 2 AM when I had to call it quits.
What I’ve been doing is using #2 (Body Shot, Vuln.), and then using #1 repeatedly on auto-attack until something happens. I try to anticipate it, but if I get jumped I immediately mash #3 (Shadow Strike? I don’t know, the Guild Head thing is wrong because Repeater is not the P/D #3 skill) to get away. #4 (Dancing Daggers) to slow down a group and dodge around (or chase).
I found last night (my first sPvP matchup) that I had the hardest time against the wizards (Mesmers/Elementalists) who had clones…I usually swapped to my Shortbow to use Cluster Bomb in close range after laying down a Poison field, but then I’m stuck on shortbow, so that when I switch back to P/D the clones are back up…ugh!
It was fun picking on warriors, engineers, thieves, and guardians, though the guardians took forever.
All in all, I did very well with this build compared to constantly trying to reposition myself with daggers, or not being bursty or survivable enough with sword/pistol or sword/dagger.
I noticed on someone’s link above that they had earrings and rings in their guildhead link slots. Is there a vendor for that in the Mists?

So does that mean that it’s using ports 19872, 3081, 3082, 3084? Or ports 1249, 6112, and 443? 443 is SSL, so I’m not sure if that’s correct.
I have a NetGear WNDR4500 (the “N900”), and I’m trying to set up the QoS (Quality of Service) settings on it. In the setting page, they ask for the following:
The application that the policy is for.
The priority for the application (Low, High, Highest, etc).
The connection type (TCP/UDP/Both)
The starting port.
The ending port.
It doesn’t ask for the location of the game EXE file, so I’m assuming that when Guild Wars 2 runs, the router will detect traffic to/from it? At any rate, I searched here in the forums and on Google, and have been unable to find Guild Wars 2 ports.
Does anyone know them? Has anyone set up QoS for the game in their home? I gave Netflix “low” priority, and there are default profiles on the router for Age of Empires, Everquest 2, World of Warcraft, Counter Strike, etc. But I’m sure we’re not using the same ports as those applications.
