possible way to fix spirits

Personally I would just make them immune to dmg, they already have a 60 second cool down.

Stealth makes the thief OP

The whole point of a thief is to be stealthy…. I really am saddened by peoples response to this…

kitten it, if we want to make classes more fair then lets make all the classes even:

- Remove stealth on thief
- Remove clones on mesmer
- Remove 100 swords (Or whatever its called) from Warriors
- Remove full heals and barriers from Guardian
- Remove minions from necro
- Remove attunements from elementalists

Seriously, the class is fine. Latency issues exist, sure, but that has nothing to do with the class. Stealth makes thieves who they are, without it, they are a pointless class.

Im sad as a Ranger we have nothing you felt worth listing

On topic, if a thief is hit in stealth it should drag him out to allow people who see a thief coming or are fighting a thief have a chance to counter stealth by using an AoE or swinging their weapon.

Remove Pets and give us Animal Spirits

I don’t like this idea at all as my PET companion is what makes the ranger unique!

You would still have a graphical representation of your pet just “spiritified” and it would still pull off its special attack. So in essence you have a pet just a different sort and I posted above:
“For people who really want a physical pet they can drop a trait in a talent line that allows our pets to manifest as physical entities while we get a dmg% reduction while the pet is manifested.”

longbow shots really REALLY slow

I dont find it that strange, since a real longbow, shoots slower then a non longbow, plus its slow, and hit hard, compared to the shortbow, that has a fast attack, but deals less dmg/shot:)

Please don’t bring reality into a fantasy game, no one in reality can fire a short bow that fast and just to note a short bow has just as much penetrating power IRL as a longbow but a longbow has the range, it is all dependent on the type of bow and importantly the arrow used. They also have almost identical fire rates in the hands of a skilled user.

But none of this matters because it is a game and only takes the smallest amount of real life logic it needs for us to be able to relate.

Why do spirits "die" in combat?

Hide the spirits…. so basically you’re saying spirits are fine ONLY if you have the time and opportunity to hide them?
Basically useless on any kind of attack group, no good if you are caught moving, pointless all around unless you can pause a fight half way through to nip round the corner to drop your spirit?

No one is debating how good/bad the buff is but the fact that it is tied to something that falls over when someone looks at them funny on a 60 second cool down.

then rename them shaman

I dunno, shaman for me at least brings more of a caster image to mind rather than a melee/bow using wilderness fighter.

Remove a chunk of our dps and give us a buff of a few stats? Roll a warrior and carry a banner you would be better off.
A petless ranger is efectivly pointless its just a SB thief with out the dps or cool death blossom animation.

One of the idea is to fold the lost pet DPS back into the ranger weapons/abilities as stated in the original post.
Also ranger weapon abilities and utility skills are different enough from warrior/thief that even without a pet they would still be a different playstyle, with removing the physicality of the pet and leaving the aesthetic by removing a pet that does something and having a spirit pet that just follows us around we would also maintain a visual difference.

For people who really want a physical pet they can drop a trait in a talent line that allows our pets to manifest as physical entities while we get a dmg% reduction while the pet is manifested.

This is all totally hypothetical of course but still fun to discuss it.

Is "Spirit Herder" viable now?

Two alternative ways in which I would change spirits to make them usable.

1. Buff health to levels that allow them to take a few normal hits and give them resistance to AoE but make them permanent, cool down triggers on death of spirit.

or

2. Make them totally immune to dmg but leave them with their current duration and cooldown

This is a fairly dumb idea and will never happen but I thought I would share.

Instead of Ranger pets having a physical presence instead make them animal spirits.
The pet itself still has a visible representation just like our utility spirits do now and like our utility spirits they don’t attack or do dmg themselves, instead the spirit of the animal provides use with bonuses based on the animal we have supporting us.
As an example:
Bears give toughness/vitality
Canines give power/vitality
Birds give speed/precision
Cats give precision/power
On top of this they can still provide a unique F2 ability based on pet. For example if you have a raven spirit when you hit F2 the raven shoots forward and blinds your target etc.
Keep pet switching as is allowing us to change between two spirits but with the same cooldown on switching.
Then just fold in the lost pet dps directly into the ranger.

This would accomplish a few things that the ranger pet system currently has problems with.
1. Pet survivability would no longer be a problem
2. The problem with pets unable to hit moving targets would become a non issue
3. Dumb pathing and pets being an aggro magnet would also vanish

Everyone I know who melees those things has the same problem, I even tested it one night and sure enough couldn’t hit it unless standing in a very specific spot.

1. Prevents/hinders movement during the chain, start an attack sequence and you frequently get stuck in place for a few seconds, it is almost impossible to strafe as well due to the jump components on attacks 2 and 3.

2. Prevents dodge going off 90% of the time, this basically kills 1hand sword dead, the attack chain kills dodge input and when it does go off you often end up back next to the target because of the jump pulling you back in.

3. Serpents Strike is not working properly a good portion of the time. It often moves me too far from the target during the dodge roll and the subsequent poison attack misses.
