Elthurien has a good system there. Add a new tier for utilities but give new elites (and maybe healing skills) a quest or an objective to complete. Force players to cover various aspects of the game. It’s an elite skill after all.
Even though I was saving skill points to buy my bloodstone shard, the last item I needed for my Flameseeker Prophecies, I still bought the new heal skill. I think that shows how much new skills can influence players, at least for me.
Maybe two week updates is holding it back. What if they did one big update every month instead of two a month?
LS has only gotten better. Why can’t living story bring us to new maps like the Crystal Desert? Same goes for Cantha. If they start off Living Story season 2 on the right foot, bring in new permanent maps that we all want to see, and new dungeons every so often, I truly believe that we have a lot to be excited about.
I like the idea of “capturing skills” from champions or veterans, but would that work if you released one new utility? Would that work if you release three new utilities? Would it work better If there was a new champion for each profession or each new skill?
Also what is the next cdi discussion? I knew you brought up class discussion. Seems like a good discussion topic.
Oh and keep up the good work anet!
Still no Thief dodge effect as an Asuran thief. I know it’s nitpicking, but it’s a stimulating trait that thieves have.
Healing Power warriors fascinate me. I’ve partied with shout healers but I have never run into a banner healing warrior. Seems fun/interesting
Thanks to all of the feedback, and some extra in-game help from a few if you guys, thief has become a lot more viable for me. I grossly underestimated Signet of Malice. I found using caltrops, poison field, and Cluster bomb detonations can keep me at 75% to full health with ease.
Shadow refuge is one of the moves that blew my mind very early on, and its usefulness in dungeons makes it a staple utility for me. I remember seeing that when I was leveling my Guardian during beta and saying “wow” out loud.
Thanks for the input fellas! I took a fresh look at some more defensive traits. Shadow Arts traits are really useful and helped me a lot in the dungeon run I just did.
I decided to try Black powder on pistol and its really helping me a lot when there are lots of enemies (like cof path2 or a few instances in ta)
Going for a more of an in-n-out approach on bosses.
I’m doing a lot better now thanks to the tips. Moving around, stealth, and evasions are helping a lot. It’s def a different play style for me, but I’m liking it.
:D
First, let me say that Thief was my favorite class to level, and I have almost every class at 80. I experimented with many different builds, did lots of events in groups and solo pve and loved it.
The thing is, at 80, I’m finding it really hard to do any level 80 content, more difficult then any of my 80’s. I have 2 Q’s for any advanced thief players, to try and determine what needs to change with my build from a survivability standpoint.
1. Do theives need to build vit/toughness more then other classes? I have 10k hp and die in about 2 or 3 hits in dungeons. My warrior, on the other hand, is full zerks and I rarely have to worry about surviving.
2. Are there any useful traits to help stay alive that I might be missing?
Thanks
NICE ok thanks
I have the distinction in applied jumping title, so I have seen every hidden room and purchased all upgrades but my max bauble count is still 500. any help?
Do you guys really think exotic is hard enough to get? Makes me wonder how many of you have played other MMOs. Exotic gear is far too easy to get. I have seven 80s and only one isn’t fully exotic geared. Add on the fact that i have a legendary. If you play all aspects of the game like I do, gold becomes a non- issue. I believe the most powerful weapons in the game should take a week to craft if you are a hardcore player.
Exotic gear is far too easy to get. I have 6 80’s and I’m just about fully geared on all of them.
You really want to get 100% condition duration to make those burns count and you want to apply burn an as many enemies as you can. Purging flames and Judges Intervention paired with Torch and Scepter I’d say. That being said, I have tried very, very hard to make my Burning Guardian work. I have a full exotic set of Condi gear and its a lot of fun to play, but I wouldn’t say its especially great as far as damage.
The trait set up you posted seems viable. Getting that 10% of Power becomes extra Condition damage is decent.
Idk about this in pvp!… I’m sure it can be done. D/D using the 3 skill and shortbow. Using venom with torment. As for specifics, I couldn’t help….
Why don’t you try it and post results?
Just play to have fun. Its a game, after all. What I have fun doing is experimenting with different stats and different traits. I completed every dungeon path using clerics gear. Right now I’m primarily knights gear, rocking blind=vulnerability and crits=might. loving it.
I think necro is fun to watch. Especially with that new 5 skill in Death Shroud. Marks and minions demand attention and the wells…. Oh god the wells.
I like the flashiness of guardian though.
Seems like warriors are the more bland option. Probably because I see them all the time.
Meh. I don’t mind the episodic nature of the game. I would like some more permanent content soon, though. A new dungeon with a new armor set or weapon set would be sick.
Or, if you don’t mind crafting, celestial gear works great for support guard. Though I haven’t tested it myself

Mace/shield is very good with clerics gear. Taking altruistic healing and stacking on melee warriors/thieves can provide lots of survivability thanks to all the regen ticks from number two. That number two and five give some added healing to the group. personally recommend the clerics set if your guild has enough DPS.
Hmmm now that you mention it, the auto attacks are a bit more impressive DPS wise
Just do what you think is fun! If your guild doesnt want to take you based on your playstyle, you probably need a better/friendlier guild Lol.
Sword/shield is certainly viable, the 2 skill is great for staying in the heat of the battle and 3 is a decent DPS skill with a small amount of utility. Because sword is more of a DPS choice, I wouldn’t recommend it for a tank/support spec, unless you are using knights or celestial gear and taking the crits=might trait. If you are using cleric’s gear, mace would prob be a more viable dungeon option.
That’s my input anyway
haha except you can use gold for gems, so instant repairs are completely feasible and fair.
If they made Mounts something to manage, more involved then some piece of equipment, I’d be fine with it. Keep them out of WvW, and dungeons (or anything instanced really) and I’d be fine with that.
Have mechanical Mounts that need oil or something, and Animal Mounts that need food?
Waypoints are a little too expensive, and I’d ride a Moa around if it gave me 66% move speed (or even just 50%) out of combat.
I might be the minority on the forums, but that is a small part of the actual Guild wars 2 community, so I’ll say it anyway.
I would use inspect for GOOD. I would love the opportunity to teach and help players, and maybe learn something myself in the process.
I think You guys need to meet the average GW2 player instead of thinking only about the vocal minority of speed runners and all around closed minded individuals. Most of the peeps i run into don’t even have matching stats on their gear, let alone worry about running full berserker. Since launch, I have helped countless people learn how to build and conquer dungeons, building multiple dungeon masters out of it, and it wasn’t berzerker gear.
I Think inspect would be good for the game. Ifa pay member dies all the time during TA or Fractal lv 1 through 9, id like to help. There are some people who use magic find on their main gear, thus losing out on a third stat, and I want to be the one who can help them learn that this stat could be condition damage or toughness to help the rest of the party out.
Maybe you can flag your character as “uninspectable” or something, or, you can prove yourself with an impressive title before people judge you based on gear.
Thank you so much! that was very helpful!
Accidents happen, kids. Sheesh. I can’t wait to take the Karka queen on!
Using knockdown with bane signet, then following up with ring of warding or that five skill on gs can keep people close to you. Just make sure to count their dodges. After they have used two in quick succession, HP for the knockdown or immobilize, leap of faith then whirling wrath. Gs isn’t that great for open battles like wvw, but using WWrath and Symbols on points can be devastating. Also, consider a retaliation build, as many fast attacking classes can melt themselves down with it
Mesmer is a tricky one, but if you stay on top of them it can be p easy. A pro mesmer will make this very difficult for you though. I like using Judges intervention to stay on top of them, and renewed focus to renew virtues. There were a few times where i 1v1’d a Mesmer and was surprised how easily he went down
Also I found using for zealots flame to be effective as an extra burn and a quick spike
I like knights for my support build, focusing on stacking might with crits, and my dps is acceptable in my group, but i could see Zerks being a lot better
what gear stats are you guys using?
So… should I abandon farming for money to purchase my precursor? is this a vision in the next few months or next year?
Oh yeah! I was extremely excited to find out we would be returning to Southsun and dealing with the consortium. Karka are some of my favorite enemies in terms of design.
I’ve got to say. I love the new Southsun stuff. I really appreciate all the hard work and dedication Anet has put into this. Not sure if they will see this, but with all the QQing on the forums, I imagine a thumbs up goes a long way, so thank you very much.
No offense, but i couldnt disagree more. I want achievements that push you. I’ll go ahead and give you the http://www.merriam-webster.com's definition of Achievement.
1: the act of achieving : accomplishment
2a : a result gained by effort
b : a great or heroic deed
Accomplishment. Do you really feel Accomplishment when something is just given to you? I can see where you are going with this, and you said you are a GW1 veteran, so why do you have time to grind for hours and hours for titles in GW1, but you dont have a few hours to play a crab mini game.
I’m in a Guild called Achievements Matter and chasing Achievements and Titles are something we LOOOOOVE to do. I love being a part of that exclusive group that played during the Secret of Southsun, even if it isn’t so exclusive at this very moment. Three years down the road and I show off that Crabgrabber title, it means something. It means I put in the effort to obtain it, and long time Vet’s will recognize that. It wasn’t just given to me like Combat healer hahaha.
Much love!
I just wish I felt like I was making progress on these things. I would have no problem farming them if I could see one every 4 or 5 hours of farming. I made an investment on all this magic find (I’m over 175% with food buff and booster) and it hasn’t done a thing for Spark farming. haha in time, I guess…
I love this game. I have been a long time Anet fan, and dont see it changing. Every time Anet announces something that has me slightly worried, they prove me wrong. The absence of a dedicated healer, the Gem shop, and Ascended gear all had me a little worried, but I was wrong.
Cant wait for future expansions and additions. I hope for NEW RACES/ CLASSES/ PROFESSIONS someday :P
The torch that the Pirate weapon karma vendor sells is tight! I can’t remember the name off hand…. it is a flaming skull.
ty for response… sadly, I think this would have kept a smaller, tighter guild like the one I’m a part of, going strong, as we are adults with other obligations. Hopefully SOMEDAY….
Would love to communicate with guildmates even when I’m away from my computer. Has there been any word on this lately?

Came here to make this topic. The thief dodge effect is a distinguishing feature and should be present. I have tried submitting bug reports but still nothing. I have faith that one day it will be fixed.)
Keep up the good work anet!
Male human guardian. Solo and with another player. Vigil and dignified. same problem as everyone else posting. Managed to find a mob “buried” in a rubble. somehow killed him after like 15 minutes of trying to kill him with burn because he was ‘invulnerable’ to attacks.
Keep up the great work Anet!!!!!!!!!!!!!
