Not quite understanding the logic behind the tanking rating, to drop down a tier to get back the following week to T1.
It seems the love-hate relationship with Viz, seems to fall a bit more to the love side, as it appears that SFR is trying its best to manipulate the system to get back to the same old match ups.
I think we would miss the forums if it ever changed for too long…
[PCP] are looking for new members to spend our evenings with. To give a bit of insight to the guild:
- Who are [PCP]? – we are a group of older gamers that have grown up gaming and should know better but are glad they don’t!!!
- Why are [PCP] recruiting? – well as a guild that houses some of lifes older gamers, membership has dropped due to real life and some people deciding the game is not for them and so forth.
- What type or person are you looking for? – [PCP] are an international guild, English speaking, aged 20-40+ playing on an EU server and are looking for similar players to join the ranks.
- What do we do? – [PCP] is a PvX guild, though the majority play WWW alot, so on the look out for people that mostly WWW, but who are happy to do other things now and then.
- How many people are online currently? – truthfully, not a great deal at the most 5-10 of an evening, hence the recruitment to get a few more.
- What do we want from new members? – Nothing – you paid for the game not us, feel free to do what ever you please – however we would hope that you join mumble and guild events (a couple of times per week).
If anyone feels like taking a step our way please head over to http://www.precept.cc and post an application, or ask any questions – otherwise PM myself and I’ll answer as honestly as possible.
we are not looking for massive numbers, if we can get 10-15 of us older players online of an evening, it would be an outstanding success, and maybe we can show that we are not all due for the knackers yard yet!!’
Hi there Nightfall.
I know currently the guild I am in – Precept that has been on SFR from headstart is looking for a few new members due to a few people deciding the game is not for them, or real life changing the amout they can play.
The guild is not massive, but are looking for a few people to boost the numbers a bit for events (pve/www/spvp depending upon preferences).
If of any interest hit – pcpsong.3850 – with any questions I am sure he will have time to answer.
We have commander icon, TS3, etc.
Or take a look here: http://www.precept.cc/forums/index.php
If this guild is not for you, take a look at: http://www.pevepe.net/gw2forum/page/1/m/6083582/viewthread/5317994-new-seafarers-rest-guilds-intro
Where you can find guilds that are in the server alliance, that may be more to your nationality/taste.
If you have any questions feel free to ask and I will answer the best I can.
Hope you find a good home, best of luck!!
Highlight for me last night was @ VZ boarderlands, garrison walls were down we were defending like mad, and a couple of VZ guys walked in through the downed wall in Moose form (tonic I guess?) and stood there for a while.
With all the talk about Canadians and so on, I thought it was a very funny moment, though I think I was the only one to see it, everyone else thought I was on drugs.
@ reacting, I would not worry about the guy in a rush to register his account he hit the ‘a’ key by mistake before pressing enter
Not posted for a while, but let’s look at things from a server population point of view:
SFR – Medium
Viz- Very High
Elona – Very High
Now the ‘not fair’ brigade that moan about night capping by a few americans from SFR (which at best keeps the score ticking) have a huge advantage in server population.
They moan about ‘but we cannot sleep’ – which is a very mute point anyway, as if you look at past match histories these same people were night capping from day one when there was no american presence (500+ ticks @ 5am).
You have numbers all the time – stop whining about a few people that help to balance out the matches – or are you afraid of a fair fight? The majority of today SFR had outmanned in all but EB, we could moan about imbalanced populations between servers and call out ‘its not fair blah, blah, blah’.
Great fight today, was the first time in my life I pulled a sickey at work to get home and play games when things were looking a bit desperate on SFR.
Glad I did though, was the best day so far in WWW, so close, and alot of fun.
Hope next week brings the same, hats off to the Viz and BT guys for great entertainment, was EPIC.
tbh I have no idea what their motives are (maybe to play against different guilds?), personally, just looking forward to this match win or lose, sure it will be alot of fun.
Personally I am not a big fan of the current matchmaking system, I would like to see a simple winner goes up, loser goes down ladder. I would rather lose against a new opponent than win against the same ones 3 weeks on the bounce in order to creep up a tier.
Maybe I am in the minority on this but the game can get a little lack – luster knowing that winning or losing a tier may not have any impact on the following weeks bracket.
‘Guess they’re RUIN 2.0 /shrug’
Nope, they are nothing like RUIN, completely different league.
@Choko – it was sarcasm…but appears it was lost on people.
So how’s SFR been doing? I’ve noticed you guys got a nice population boost and shot up the rankings. Got some transfers?
Many transfers it seems, maybe too many now, snowballing a bit, from memory:
3 or so Russian guilds
2 or more Polish guilds
Alot of Italian guilds
A few international guilds – some Euro’s that moved from NA servers.
Once they are fully trained up in forum whining they will be good to go….got to keep our standards up would not want to alter your perception.
Conversley all we are asking for is for some timezone coverage that does not require us rouse ourselves from the scratching pit at 6 a.m. to play a game, all power to the Xaoc guys for doing that and that effort they put in, its not for me though.
However no harm in others looking for an easier, more managable solution is there? for those of us that like a nice sleep, surely in the long run its better for all involved not to turn the game into a second job at the detriment to other things in life.
Like you say in the latter part of your post its a game where the main strategy is timezone manipulation, the www concept is good, the scoring system is flawed to an extent – but thats been discussed many a time and we are stuck with it for the time being.
SFR, I guess is looking forward ,nothing more than that, and taking a ‘if you can’t beat them join them’ attitude (which I guess could be attributed to VS for fielding the first strong night team and starting the viscious cycle).
The majority of the WWW arguments could have been averted with world wide servers as opposed to regional, but thats another debate.
Whats the problem here? SFR is as far as I know made up of alot people with jobs/kids/partners – asking for help for times we cannot cover is not a crime.
BT picked up a whole bunch of other guilds over the past few weeks, now SFR asks, its suddenly – thou shalt not recruit messages, you should look within for time coverage and so on.
I don’t get it – BT already created an almost unbeatable server due to time coverage, people try to recruit for a timezone that basically will make the Xaoc alarm clocking less effective, and revert the balance of EU matches back to EU primetime, and its percieved to be wrong? please enlighten……..
BT will still more than likely win anyway (thats assuming we ever make T1 which should not be counted upon…)
@Wicked, I don’t honestly think we will be fearing Deso, yes BT, dunno about VS, the main guilds on the server have been here through good and bad, I doubt if we get a good beating any of those will leave. We have taken a beating in the past and no noted guild left to my knowledge.
There is a pretty good spirit on the server , and win, lose or whatever most guys have loyality to it and don’t transfer if we lose, we just try again and see where we can improve.
We still have some ways to go, personally I think we can learn from RS defence (maybe not quite so defensive) but its something that will reap rewards if we move higher.
Thanks to all in this week match up, and +love to Kambros, one of the most informative posts I have read on this forum for some while.
@Cyril, people care about the points (I don’t) morale is the biggest enemy in this game, crush it over the weekend people don’t often come back from a losing position.
I think if we manage to snaffle a few NA players – around 50-70 to counteract the Xaoc presence in the morning – we may be able to give you a half decent fight, as morale won’t get screwed over early in the match, EU prime time we have only got better.
The community guilds will keep on fighting whatever, we will just prolly lose the unguilded and those that not fully www focused if we get hammered over the weekend.
Personally I am looking forward to fighting Blacktide again if we make it that far up the ladder ,because there are a few guys on the server that wind me up (which is fun and I have no problem with at all – in my opinion it adds to the game).
I think the reason for maybe people on SFR focusing FSP (if at all), is just because we have faced Riverside 3-4 times in the weekly match ups, and people are just fighting the new enemy because its the first time we have had a week match up against you, and is different ot fighting yet another DE server.
We have had guys move from SFR when times were not so good to FSP – goes both ways.
We swapped these guys for Iamacop, fair trade if you ask me.
Its a pretty cheesy move, yet everyone has paid for the game and is free to do what they want to do (not that i think its good for the state of the game). If a guild wants to move to a certain server they are free to do so – but it makes the balance a bigger joke.
The only remedy is in the players hands, if game is being ‘runied’ by transfers making a super server that is unbeatable take actions to alter this.
One simple method would be for the opposition (VS + Deso) to boycott www for a week in the next match up, its a crappy move but I am sure it would have some sort of result.
Otherwise the game will end up with a few ‘mega’ servers that slug it out every week with no real excitment in matches, as only one of (2-3) have any chance of making top of the rankings.
Next week is looking like a re-run of ‘meet the kodashians’ always like playing these guys, hope it has the same ending as previous episodes (not the first one!!)
Welcome to the new WWW centric guilds that have joined over the past few days, nice to see everyone and all working together for the same cause.
Seafarer’s has now hit a server status of High, and have pretty much queues everynight in EU primetime, on all maps.
We have a great community, and would be particualy like to see a couple of NA/offpeak playtime guilds to join this and come along for the ride and see where we end up.
@Ianervan..pretty much spot on with your comments.
However, from a sheer logistics point of view, for general balance and so on in the EU brackets its easier for the NA guilds to return ‘home’ than for the mulitude of servers that have no NA presence to try and recruit a few.
Human nature will make it pretty hard for the servers ranked outside the top 3 brackets to recruit any ‘off peak’ players to join a percieved ‘worse’ server. I realise that Deso were T4 (i think) when RUIN joined but thats pretty much due to it being a mostly Brit server and common language. If we look at Blacktide with the drive they are doing for recruitment, I don’t see alot of results from the NA guilds, maybe its because of the large Russian presence – I don’t know.
Currently the EU rankings are dominated by 1 guild of around 70 guys, which have an adverse affect (compared to numbers) on the rankings (this is not taking away from the efforts of the Deso EU guys, having seen the turn around a couple of weeks ago in the DSvKodashvSFR game proved they had a good fighting spirit prior to RUIN joining – from memory I think I saw first RUIN guy on Thursday night in this match, by which time DS had turned around a last place to healthy second).
If the one guild were to return to the NA brackets it would make the the EU servers somewhat more stable in terms of ‘bandwagoning’, and would have stopped servers such as FSP having trouble, and ultimatley stopping the game becoming boring with only a handful of international guilds making the top tier, which I suspect will be the case in a couple of months.
Its based upon the server ranking (the points), the tiers are made up of 3 servers colour reprsents ranking.
Green – top positon in tier (i.e. ranking 1,4,7….)
Blue – second position in tier (i.e ranking 2,5,8…)
Red – bottom poition in tier (i.e ranking 3,6,9…)
So Green are the pre-match favourites, with Red being the underdogs of the match.
Bumping this up with a bit more context to the post.
Currently there are 5 low/medium populated EU realms, I’ll list below with curent rankings:
1. Seafarer’s Rest (9th EU) – max rank 6th EU
2. Piken Square (20th EU)
3. Vabbi (25th EU)
4. Ruins of Surmia (26th EU)
5. Fissure of Woe (27th EU)
As the rankings show, if you want low to no queues with a capable www crew Seafarer’s is a worthy choice for you’re guild.
Currently the server lacks coverage in non-EU times, and indeed in EU times it could be better, as with all servers activity has dropped since launch.
We could do with an injection of new blood- if you are a WWW guild looking to transfer to a realm with no queues which is competitive – take a look in this direction.
Map chat is solely in English (in case this is a concern), and has a great community that all work together.
Transfers are going to become more limited soon, take a gamble, screw the big population ‘I win because of numbers servers’, come to a ‘I win because I am better server’.
Seems like Riverside having a good fightback tonight, did you guys get an influx of transfers from Elona today?
@ Snort
Check the Project Blacktide post in these forums, the ones with queue times posted, you can deduce your server prime time from that – I’ll say no more.
I think the reason for so much smacktalk from the new guilds to Blacktide is they are afraid that Xaoc will transfer over to SR.
Looking at thier Project Blacktide recruitment post – they state the queue times for the server at various intervals of the day and the only queue time all areas are full is 8pm – 12am (for arguments sake lets call this ‘Prime Time’ seeing as there is alot of debate about this, its tentative, but based upon the crazy logic of when the queues are greatest there may be more people wanting to play).
Now this alledged ‘Prime Time’ – you know the time with queues – happens to coincide with the time they Blacktide lose all the points Xaoc has worked for throughout the day for.
Maybe Xaoc are starting to question if they are better off transferring to a server where there daytime activities are not wasted during ‘Prime Time’.
Anyway enough trolling, back to the battlefield, see you in game…..
Searfer’s Rest – would benifit alot from some Americans/EST players.
Alot of background has been posted by a guy above with links to server community and history etc.
To keep it short – up until T2 where we find ourselves this week we have always been able to pull back deficits from overnight during primetime and win matches. This week we have been matched with opponents that are as good in prime time (or in cases better – MoS – best guild I have seen to date). The view is slightly subjective as the Arborstone guys have mostly had 3 orbs 24/7 , and have not really seen a fight on equal footing (however they will still be very good).
Seafarer’s is one of the lowest population EU servers, but managed to fight up to 6th spot beating many of the more popular servers along the way with good team spirit , tactical awareness and communication.
Our night-time presence (apart from weekends) is a close to zero as you get.
If any NA guild is considering moving accross to EU this server would be greatfull – to be realistic it would likely require more than one as to get #1 spot we are going to need around 200 players to compete, as its not feasible to make up massive losses in primetime (EU) in the top 2 tiers.
The server has recently had an influx of another alliance from EU timezones so is strong during this time, and any NA efforts would not be wasted. Also in case this may be a consideration all map chat is 100% english so there would be no languagre barrier.
I hope the above is a decent overview of our server
I know that guilds from any outside time zone are much in demand, but if you want to take a look at the server drop by the forums and ask questions etc and try out for a night or 2 (suggest weekends when we are forefitting sleep!!!).
Ultimately think the game is going to drop down to 6-9 servers per region that are competitive in WWW and the rest being PVE based, so as players we may as well speed this process up and get the transfers over and done with so we have balanced fights in the top 2-3 tiers and get the 24/7 coverage for those that want to WWW.
To quote the SR community webiste:
‘We dont tolerate and despise hackers just like everybody else and have a policy of no exploits/hack. If anyone witnessed what happened and know players name and guild – please report to us and Anet’
From a server point of view we have a Wall of Shame in the coumminty forums where such things may be reported.
http://www.pevepe.net/gw2forum/m/6083582/viewthread/4470914-boting-hacks
If there were no ranking of worlds, then people on worlds that were losing badly would just complain on these forums ’ why were we matched with x’.
At least with a visible server ranking you can see how and why you have the opponents you face, without such things the general ‘its unfair’ brigade would be even more vocal than they are now.
Last week we at Seafarer’s played these two servers, we also thought they we were playing 2 servers against us at the start of the match, but pretty sure towards the end of the week we were wrong.
It was my favorite match up so far, alot more fun than this weeks match.
I know its unlikely to happen but I would really like to see next match up:
Kodash V Gunnars V Seafarer’s.
I am pretty sure this match would be the closest match in all tiers if it happens and provide some great battles.
The only problem with this idea I can see is that it has the potential to be abused, by servers logging out en mass to deny the opposition chance to gain points to make a come back. Therfore artifically affecting the normal playtimes of that server for thier own benifit.
However with a slight change to this idea it could work – the percentage points of the ticks were based upon server activity to date (i.e no one can now affect this) it could work.
Same sort of percentages as above, but already predetermined based upon past activity – if a server that historically has had little night presence then a ‘night capping’ server can only gain limited points of them, but when playing against other servers with a history of 24hr representation then normal points resume.
Though the above is still liable to manipulation..
