Counter Stealth. Is it too much?

Usually try to avoid talking on the forums, but I’ll step in as this is a discussion we need to be having.

I’m one of the original thief players in GW2. I’ve mained thief since launch, blah blah blah, yeah. Like the total noob I was, I went D/D and a glass cannon build because DPS synergies back in the day.

Over time that moved to Acrobatics (+3k HP), and by swapping Deadly Arts for Shadow Arts, I was able to exploit good stealth, Blind-on-stealth, and maximize the synergy between Signet of Malice and Invigorating Precision (then 5% or 8%, depending on patch) to become surprisingly durable at the expense of dealing from 30-60% less theoretical damage.

But the thing was, having come from a glass cannon build that carried me to ~Lv.70, I understood just how precious that extra HP and healing was. And because I’d sacrificed Hide in Shadows to gain more healing, I was using D/D for the Cloak and Dagger skill to gain rapid access to condition cleansing and stealth.

It was very much a sacrifice that was worth making.

So now that I’ve lost 3,000 HP, another 7% precision-to-vitality when Practiced Tolerance got changed, my acrobatics trait line is now nigh useless (goodbye, old Feline Grace), and the Shadow Arts line got relatively nerfed despite having 3 full trait lines, it kitten well hurts to play Thief.

I can’t necessarily afford to drop the 100g+ to replace all of my gear with something more durable or to swap to a different play-style capable of higher sustainability in a fight. Sure my skills remain largely unchanged, but I feel forced into a Deadly Arts / Critical Strikes / Shadow Arts build if I want to survive at all (because taking Trickery means losing almost all condition handling), which is never, ever good design. Worse, with the introduction of No Quarter, I’m once again losing out on significant DPS capabilities by having an interest of being able to survive a fight with a character that went from a deceptively durable build to a full-on glass cannon overnight.

A build I thought I could finally put behind me, but which ANet felt needed to be shoe-horned back into the play style.

Ergo, yes, hearing that there will be more sources and even stronger forms of Reveal is a deathknell for Thief. Sure we gained the potential to out-damage most non-condition builds through sheer critical DPS, but the cost of that was too great.

Now that we have no choice but to be trapped in the lowest HP bracket, our only real defensive capacity beside piddling evades (Ranger bests us quite handily in melee in that regard) is now becoming our greatest weakness. Like complaints about Elementalist being a “sitting duck,” too much of our stealth involves keeping put (a la Shadow Refuge) or attempting to flee.

And let’s not forget the nerf to Resilience of Shadows, either:

On a particular note my general rate on the books:
Sea of sorrows – By far the best. Love you Ree Soesbee, this book it amongst my yop 5 ever read. And I’ve read a lot of books.
Edge of destiny – A great book, I enjoyed reading it. has some lacking points, but still great and obligatory tied into gw2 story.
Ghosts of ascalon – Not a bad book, but way too generic. Don’t have the drama feeling of the other two, neither the great story concept + progression. Still, a good book.

I see a lot of players around in GW2 /shrug while when I logged into SW:TOR the other day I did not see anyone for 5 hours. (high pop server) so I doubt the accuracy of those numbers

That is about as reliable as these rankings unless SWTOR uses something like megaserver as well. With megaserver as long as there are enough people to fill one server per region it’ll look like the game is full of people.

At the end of every fractal, you’ll find a … fractal encryption …[that might drop] new ascended aquatic-breather recipes.

I’d like ANet to reconsider this idea and replace the idea of breathers as gear with making them a skin-only component.

  • Aquatic Breathers have never been needed to, you know, aquatically breathe (at least, never in the live game).
  • For 3 years, fighting under water has meant reduced stats and has required buying a seventh rune for every armor set.
  • For most of these 3 years, breathers were limited to sub-L80 masterwork, karma items: no rares (never mind exotics) and completely uncraftable or unsalvageable at top levels. Even now, the supply of better-than-green rarity is extremely limited.

Thus, in a meaningful sense, we’ve never really had true underwater headgear; all we’ve had is a placeholder marginally better than no gear at all (and arguably worse than nothing at times).

Accordingly, instead of adding recipes into the game to create the gear, how about if we simplify gearing up by removing this seventh, orphaned child of armor and replacing it with a skin.

  • ANet can sell breather skins on the gem shop.
  • There could still be “ascended” recipes for breathers with special effects.

tl;dr don’t introduce new breathers into the game; simplify the system and replace them with wardrobe-only skins that display while underwater.

Mentor tag shows that you want to help people. Completly different from commanding.

Yes and commanding tags were implemented to “command” people in WvW. Of course that obviously has spilled over to PVE because as such we have had no alternative until now. So that is my whole point.

So the whole 4 color commander tag IDENTICAL to the fort colors in Silverwastes is unintentional?
Commander tags are and always will be a huge part of open-world massive event PvE.
It was never designed to be WvW exclusive.

If here they fall they shall live on when ever you cry “For Ascalon!”

Just NO! its perfectly fine to whisper and ask a person what skins they are using, I’ve had people ask me before and I was happy to tell them. I dont want people inspecting my gear even though i run zerker its my choice to want to stay individual and not have clones of my own skin types running around. Some people spend hours months getting the skins to look that way! So why waste even more coding time for a stupid and useless feature!!!

Hey folks, I am sure this has been asked a few times, but as of now Aug 9 2015. What class is the easiest to play. I like PvP a lot, i suck at it and i suck at using lots of hotkeys.

My play style is 90% solo, I am no good at strafe fighting and swapping weapons, so i thought maybe a stealth archer? I pretty much want to just bash a few buttons. I don’t care too much if i win every fight, i just want to survive a bit.

I really want to play them since I’ve missed them by a month since I bought the game in 2014. I know they are working on HoT, but it will be nice to inform us if they will bring it back sometime in the future or before the expansion to occupy our time. Or at least the Queen’s Gauntlet.

This is not rage tread and im not quitting (yet),but im glad i didn’t pre-purchase HOT since every day i feel like quitting this game.WvW since the last big patch is soo broken…that i didn’t saw such a broken combat since Jade Dinasty.They destroyed our builds,made just a few viable builds that you must play or else you get with 1 shot.

Elementalist is broken the most,its soo overpowered that is beyond words,it does not have weak spot at all,strong in def – strong in attack.
Condition mesmers – dont even bother to pvp them,2 spells and you are dead.You cant spam condition clear as much as they can broken conditions.( I have fully geared mesmer)
Thiefs got nerfed againd…..Yes they got huge dmg now but they are squishy that cant do anything unless they play our fabulous meta(glass) build.Survivability is gone.Thief can 1 shot kill him,mesmer can do as well,every aoe class counters stealth and burst you in just 1 sec.D/D is dead.
Entire combat in this game become just like on Jade Dinasty,who hits you first wins.In this game now you literally can kill squishy classes with 1 or 2 spells ( no need to even combo anymore)

I love this game,i play it for 3 years now,i didn’t mind bugs,or no content or anything as much as this and this is literally my first “complain” tread on forums.I play MMO’s cause of PVP and now PVP is here dead for me.
I got tired of trying to WvW with 3 different classes and that same players kill me with ease by using 2-3 buttons,wile i need to work hard to even do a bit dmg (playing the way i like)
I hope Anet returns traits the way they were before,where every class could play offensive or deffensive.Playing squishy classes and been killed by 2 aoe spells does not make combat fun,it makes it vary frustrating for players that dont want to play meta builds.
I know my English is not perfect,yeah it is broken,bot not even a bit as this game is right now.

I’ve had a few thoughts brewing as anticipation grows for Heart of Thorns. I had initially thought of giving each its own topic, but they’re honestly such small suggestions that I think it would be easier to cover them all at once. So here goes.

Make Sylvari facial-bark(?) its own character-creation category.
Facial hair for all other races is separated from the face choice, so I don’t understand why the same can’t be true of Sylvari. I know their bark colors are going to need to draw from the skin tone, but it shouldn’t be that hard to link the two. There are many faces that I think would benefit from adding or removing facial bark at the player’s whim.

Replay Personal Story option
Even if there is no way to change the choices you’ve made and experience other options, the ability to go back and relive the adventure without recreating the character would be something that would extend the life of the game for those of us who enjoy personal story.

Multi-Person/Group PM System or “RP” Chat
This is a fairly complicated request, I’m sure, so hear me out for a moment.
A lot of the Non-RP population of Guild Wars has expressed their dislike of the RP players using Say chat to RP. The megaserver shift was hard for those who tried to keep to RP servers only, and party chat and guild chat are both incredibly limiting for different reasons. Party chat causes a hard limit of 5 people, meaning that friends can’t spectate or participate in larger RPs. Guild chat has the opposite problem. Being that it broadcasts over multiple maps, you’d have several RPs to wade through while trying to respond to one.
Putting in a group chat system where players can be invited to a PM window with other users would fix this entirely. It would get the RP chat out of Say and Emotes, keeping the Non-RP population happy while allowing RPers the ability to RP with as many or as few people as they want. It would also benefit Non-RPers through allowing customizable chat windows for large or small-scale events.

Allow double-click deposit or drag-to-stack in Guild Bank
I’m not sure if this is a bug or an oversight, but for as long as I’ve been playing, guild members have had to take a partial stack out of the guild bank before adding their contribution and putting it back, and that is very frustrating for a few reasons. Mostly, though, it makes the ability for lower-ranked guild members to deposit without withdrawing from certain sections completely useless.

Guild Materials Storage
A mat storage area, but guild owned. Many guilds will pitch in to gear up a new player or level a member’s crafting, so it would be awesome to see a mat area that we can allow certain ranks to access.

Remove 250 stack cap on account-bound materials
(ie: Bloodstone dust, charged quartz etc)
They’re account bound, so there’s no reason why we shouldn’t be allowed to hoard them without impunity.

cloaked in shadows is quite essential for dagger offhand, just like shadows rejuv.
d/p doesnt need that blind so it outshines dagger offhand atm.

id put that fall dmg trait back to adept combined with last refuge. and merge cloaked in shadows with hidden thief. would thematically fit.
this would help dagger offhand to compete with d/p. and balance wise it wouldnt change much except pulling d/d and s/d out of the bin.

so…we would need a new grandmaster then

It’s always interesting to see how non-game developers perceive the process of making games. Things must seem easy and simple to implement from an outsider’s perspective.

Design has to flesh out the feature (does it include weapons and/or skills? should it?). UX has to design the GUI. Art has to iterate, draw it, and chop up the art. Engineers have to code it, create cheats for QA and tools for Customer Service. You need a data migration path for when users first login. You need to stress test (what does each player storing all this additional info do to the servers?). You need to map it to hotkeys. QA has test it. Engineers have to fix the bugs. Can it be integrated with automated tests? What happens when skills are added, deprecated, or replaced? And on and on…

The fall damage reduction trait is adept tier across all professions except thief where it has been placed at grandmaster tier by attaching it to Cloaked in Shadow. This puts it in direct competition with venomsharing in WvW builds where fall damage reduction sees the most use. The fall damage reduction trait should be decoupled from Cloaked in Shadow and moved down to the adept tier, perhaps by merging it with Last Refuge.

Yeah teefs are kittened, when I saw the changes I flipped out and thought I might as well learn S/D to have some experience with it, but they’ve even nerfed Feline Grace

This new system has brought great buffs to my alts (Shatter Mesmer, Condi Survival Ranger, Signet Cele Elementalist) but it had me looking at my two favourite characters with eyes filled with sadness (My main engineer and my beloved teef)

i will probably try out 60606 for d/p in tpvp to see if thats viable
and i would probably also use that in wvw, the extremely low cd on steal makes the steal-stealth-trait pretty nice (especially on d/p where your dmg doesnt partly rely on c&d)
probably the main reason why 60206 d/p works atm in wvw as well is because i’m always full bersi, so its also a matter of gear – if you watch out you will almost never die anyway unless you engage without a port rdy (still using infiltrators signet) and especially d/p doesnt offer that much burst making the fights mostly last longer but imo is still honorable as its a pvp build without 6 in SA
how i feel about the honor after HoT is questionable of course as i will be forced to take 6 in SA if i want any condi removal whatsoever apart from shadowstep

but maybe you could also try 06606, even though then mug and improvisation would be missing
for d/d its kind of a weird choice atm i think, 66600 may be nice for burst, and the regen on stealth may be worth trying out for some extra healing

I dont really understand this… why would they make so much problems for them selfs by doing this.

there are so many people who spend months making the weapon, feeling amazing that they accomplished making 2 legendarys. taking pride in it being noted by others…

this will kill all the fun in having duo legendary’s (incinerator for example…)
It would be so much better to exclude legendarys from this system and instead make them simply accbound! why do we want an increase of at least 50% in legendarys roaming around tyria??? It will be the most common weapon in the game. Making those six month a waste of time… and legendary’s WORTHLESS

make it accbount everyone will gain from this… you can swap it around, but you still hold the value of the items, it will still be more special and rare to have 2 incinerators or bolts or what ever legendary…. Let us keep the effort we put in to it..

and this is only the part about legendary not too mention the over 200 transmutation gems spend on armors.. and the dozen bought gemstore armors.

If not. Id rather be compensated fairly
That said,

I think this is an amazing patch otherwise… if only they notified sooner so I did not salvaged a dozen skins cause of low storage but for the average player this is great..
just plz think about the players that put most effort in this game

It is a step to solve a reported issue where people don’t want to grind things over and over when they already accomplished them. In my opinion, it is an amazing step however, kinda unfair to the people who have multiple legendaries etc.

I was at work (kitten Shift Work)

From what i heard we struggled to get 20 people, But 5-4 to VcY when we managed to get 20 people, Don’t think we had our setup but was good to have a GvG again, Again don’t take it for gospel.

Just to add on the VcY killing WBC after the Fire GvG, I asked in Team Chat to make sure GvG wasn’t going on when the TUP guy informed us you guys were there. If Guild V Guild is over, You’re fair game in our books, we wouldn’t expect any different treatment.
