I’ve been playing the Revenant a lot and there is a couple of mechanics that I wish would change:

  • When swapping out of Glint, the facets linger for a few seconds if their actives are not activated. What this does is that the revenant won’t receive or even lose energy regeneration up to 3 seconds. My wish is that that facets would disperse immediately upon swapping legends.
  • I noticed that the skill Unyielding Anguish has been improved since BW3. This improvement makes the skill lands where the revenant targeted—unlike in BW3, where the skill would land a short distance behind the revenant. But the new Unyielding Anguish is no longer affected by quickness. So my wish is that the skill would be affected by quickness once again.

Most players probably don’t care about these things at all. But these changes will make my revenant performance and experience in PvP so much better.

Hi,

I played Rev in PVP exclusively in the past 2 betas—totaled 122 pvp games—ranked and unranked matches. And here are my feedbacks and suggestions.

My in-game Rev names are:

  • Ghost Whisperper Er
  • Onion Tomato

Axe

  • Can axe 5 be ground targeted? It’s a cc skill and I want to use it in a cc-mannered way (the plays) and not as a part of a “skill rotations” like “5 2 3” or “2 3 5” with mace main hand.
  • Imagine a scenario where you’re chasing a target. He is walking away from you. You use your axe 4 to get close. Now axe 4 places you “behind” target—which is right in front of the target. You are now face to face. You use your axe 5. But your target is still moving in his direction so you miss because the rift is placed in the direction you face. That’s the scenario that I experienced a few times, and everytime I wish I could place the rift behind me.

Staff

  • Can Debilitating Slam be 10e? I occasionally use staff 2 to control the enemy’s damage output, and most of the time I don’t have energy left to use DSlam.

Hammer

  • Can hammer 4 displace enemies in melee range? Just as how ranger longbow can push a target back to give the ranger’s some breathing space. And breathing space is something the hammer can’t provide when cornered. The skill already use the banish animation.

Legendary Demon Stance

  • Can Banish Enchantment also apply cripple? I always found myself rarely using the auto-attacks with Mallyx because of the inability to move faster or equal to than the opponents.
  • New Unyielding Anguish‘s definitely needs the 30e. Does the chill and the torment pulse together every second? The wording is confusing. And if that’s not the case, can chill be replaced by Slow?
  • Can Embrace the Darkness have a faster cast time? And can it have a slightly larger pulse radius?

Corruption

  • Does Pulsating Pestilence still copy conditions? I actually don’t mind the 15% chance trigger. I’m always worried that the skill can activate too prematurely when no condition is on me. That said, can PPertilence have a condi threshold?
  • I think Replenishing Despair‘s base heal should be even higher with that 1s icd—maybe 400% or 500%. Two seconds of resistance has been much more powerful than what the other 2 traits provide. I’ve always wondered why RDespair and VEnchantment are so weak in comparison.
  • The weakness of the trait Venom Enchantment is that it’s a fully passive trait. Even with the active part (apply poison when torment) is redundant because Mallyx Revs already does that regularly. I think this trait should work actively with the utilities skills. For example: AoE poison around Rev when using Mallyx’ skills.

I understand your proposal, I would love for necro to be more active. All of necro skills need better cast time. Even for wurm, I can’t use it in battle, even placing it far away feels stupid. That skill should have a 1/4 cast time, so it can be used in battle. All tele skills are already instant. I want to love necro, but it’s too slow, it needs more mobility.

Phantasms and Clones do not use the Gems Store outfit(Winter, Witch, Mad King, etc.) when summoned. Is this a bug?

Or they increased the warlock’s projectile speed, before patch, it couldn’t hit anything, hence it’s hard to notice it.

Or the bolt follows the target?

Feel free to jump into sPvP and test a build close to it. I understand how you thinking but I see it you will be a sitting duck wating for slaughter without any of the relevant defenses a mesmer need. After your signet defenses is spent you have al your passive used and you survived 4 sec extra, a shatter build can be immune 4 sec with a 3 clone shatter and still keep its utiltys, a PU build can hit a torch stealth and blink away. The condition uptime (givers) weps give less dmg and if enemy clear the condis you lost al the bonus.

Your trade condi dmg and PU for 1 sec dissorsion on signet is to trade your new shiny BMW f 800 GSA for a moped in compare, sure both take you forward…

I play power signets in spvp, as said, and ranked 30 ( 1/20/2014) (Which I’m really proud of! Go Mesmers!)

WvW and sPvP aren’t the same.

The latter requires your opponents to fight which makes many mesmer’s builds really strong.

In WvW, people always run away. I wouldn’t recommend roaming as mesmer to be honest, much more fun as engie and thief.

Nerf the bleeds on Debilitating Dissipation

Move Sharper Images (clones bleed on crit) into trait line and replace it with DE.

DE will be what it will be. (I assume clone will be able to die when using clone generation skills, i.e GS #2).

Buff Illusionary Retribution (shatters inflict confusion) by applying 2 stacks.

Buff Confusing Combatants (clone’s death applies confusion) by applying 2 stacks.

I don’t hate chaos armor. I said it’s okay skill. With 1 second icd, it does not prevent high succession attacks (Sword/pistol thief), but rather slower attackers.

And why can’t staff be offensive? CS requires 30 points into the power line. Mesmer does not have a high resources of dazes: Mantra daze (which has a 30s cd and long cast time), sword daze, and shatter daze. Not to mention how hard it is to land 1 and reading a 1/2s heal animation.

And yes, Chaos Storm is a support skill. Heck, staff is wholely defensive to its GS counterpart. And again, CStorm does not kill you (as in doing a ton of damages), it’s the halting strike and the swap to gs.

And what’s the difference with cstorm? You may be a way better player than I am, but I can’t afford stay on node all the time as a mesmer, and it will get neutralized when a fight comes to me.

PU-builds are even more useless in teamfights so I thought you’re talking about 1v1. In a 1v1 you just stand into the chaosstorm and are happy for the next 5s. Torch is a nice wep to set up shatters, it can even be devestating. It’s also a nice deff-ability in Teamfights but why sould you run s/t when you dont have illu persona?. PU in Teamq and yoloq too maybe is mandatory-usless.

Right. Maybe a few things went over my head. s/t can still be good without PU. Chaos storm can stop melee class from getting close during that 5s, but what about necros and the like?

It has 66.5% to proc per second for 5 seconds. Each condi applied is confusingly counted as a “daze”.

“An already powerful skill”

I don’t know how you came to that conclusion but staff isn’t that strong.

Staff 1 does an okay damage even with trait (bleed, burn, 3/4 cast time, and double bounce). Damage: 110 (.0300)

Staff 2 is a really great skill that rewards player with good reflects. 8s cool down is a long wait to avoid the next burst however (like thief), but I’ve successfully avoid warrior’s axe F1, hammer stun, shield stun, and bull’s charge.

Staff 3 (Phantasmal Warden) never ever hits anything (except pve), at all. Upon cast, the sucker will take her time walking up to you, fire a slow moving bolt in a straight line that can be easily avoid by just moving around (without even paying attention to it). A 4-5k damage, gone.

Staff 4 is is a not so good skill. 1 second internal cool down, 35 seconds recharge. The protection, blinds, and cripple are nice, but I rarely even notice a difference whether I have it on or off. Since when is the last time you care about whether to hit a mesmer with chaos armor or not?

Staff 5 is an okay skill, does little damage [122 (.330)]. Supposedly (in a 1v1) a zoning skill that’d give the mesmer some room to breath (without CS). But it can be countered easily by swapping to ranged weapons. Even if you’re standing in it (without CS), the best thing it can do is taking 5% off of your HP bar (condition effects are chill(1s) / poison(2s) / weakness(2s).

Now with CStorm in place, warden can hits better, I can zone better, and prevent huge burst easier.

I wouldn’t say it’s OP at all, just don’t stand in it, what’s killing you most of the time is halting strike.

Bugged CStorm kills just about everybody out there. Being bugged, it justified its weakness. Phrase retreat allows you to avoid skill shots but that’s just about it. IWarlock never seems to hit anything. And Chaos armor is good if not nor its long cd.

Anyways, a combined combo of blinding powder and heartseeker takes up 1 1/4 second, bullet or wave can counter it. Make sure you’re not standing in the field and strafe to avoid the initial blinding shot. If that fails, there’s F3. The first back stab may be inevitable, but you can guess the next one. I’d guess to myself how long would it take for the thief to get behind me.

@Sesundar. I know what you mean and this is why I move away from any 20/20/30 PU build (whether power, hybrid or coditions based). Succeeding with this build is more rewarding for my taste and this is one more reason why I want to try something different in the utility slots. For me Mantras are new and doing well in pvp with 2 is already a big achievement. I see Portal a skill step higher than decoy, blink and veil and that’s why I want to learn to use it

Portal is great in pvp, double great if your team can utilize it.
It can be use to repair trebs (leave the treb when they attack it, help mid, pick up the repair kit when it’s destroyed and port back)
Safeguard home point when you rotate to mid.
Juke the enemy with far-mid, fake an attack to far and force them to send 1 back to defend. Port back to safe location when you’re facing 2v1, and then port back to far point at the very last second. At that point, you’ll face either a 1v1 or no one because most likely they will return to mid.

I’m not avid portal user, but that’s what I use it for when I feel comfortable using it. I’m sure you can think of creative ways to use it too.

Lastly, thieves. I put my 10 spare points into chaos instead of inspiration because of the trait that give weakness (among bleeding and vulnerability) when a clone dies. Taking away condis clear is risky in the current condi meta, but this trait makes it easier for me to deal with power builds a lot. Another thing, save your pistol stun for their stealth heal. Time it right, and they’ll either drop like flies or run really fast.

I play a staff / greatsword mesmer with no decoy/veil. Every kill gives me a great feeling of reward, a true sense of victory.

When it all comes down to it, why not play what you want to play?

And if you have problems with hard cc (stun breaking), blink and decoy are appropriate.

I’d categorize the roles into support, and assault. Not trying to criticizing the posters, it’s just that newer players would not be able to grasp.

For example

GuardianSupportRoles

  • Point Defense (instead of using the word Bunker, I like your version more)
  • Point Control – See X post/link (then we can refer to the describtion of the role)
  • Resurrection Securing
  • Team Utility

GuardianAssaultRoles

  • Roaming
  • Burst
  • Sustained Pressure

Or something similar. And then perhaps we can a brief description of the build in a particular roles, for example

Roaming
To fulfill this role the profession/build must be capable of quickly moving between parts of the map. This is achieved through swiftness, teleports, leap (and other movement) abilities, and several traits which increase movement speed. Roaming is a role that is often tied to several other roles, and can be combined with most successfully depending on the profession/build. Effective roamers will also often act as “Scouts”, communicating with their team as to the whereabouts of opponents.

  • Guardian – In this role, the guardian often equip a sword for mobility, and focus for defensive maneuvers. etc etc.

Oh boy, I could totally see a website dedicated to this!

Bugged MMR/Leader Board spvp unplayable

I have this happenned to me also. Went in 2 5v0. Dropped way down in leader board. Playing with new players that absolutely have no intention of learning how to play tpvp. Very frustrating. This happened yesterday before the hotfix (the 5v0).

If anything else, I’d also like to see the announcer say “Defend points to win” instead of “Capture and Defend points to win”. Because in the noob meta, it’s all about going in circle, killing everything they see. My team lost even when I had 2 enemies going after me at a point, our team was kept going in circle, and when they got to the 2 enemies I was juking, they just die. While we’re at it, remove points earned for kills!

is how I feel about that.

What of “Every X hits”? For example, for one of the trait, gain 1 initiative every 10th Crit. It would’ve have your idea implemented and works for traits too.

@OP, if you compare d/d 3 with other dual skills, it seems really balanced. D/d 3 can hit multiple targets, grants dodges, does roughly the same damages as any other dual skills with the exception of s/p. But I’m not justifying that d/d 3 is good as it is. I do think that all dual skills needs a rework of some sort

30 arcane not worth it anymore?

For Evasive Arcana, as everyone pointed out.
Water for heal AND 1 condition removal
Earth for Blast Finisher
Air for stomp (in the case your scepter 3 is on cooldown)
Fire is pretty useless, actually, you can use it to set up Fire Grab too.

Elemental Surge is great too for different utilities.
Water/Earth (Chill/Immobilize) are for zoning the enemies.
Air (blind) is great for stomp or canceling enemy attack when you’re unable to dodge, say immobilized by a warrior and he’s going to F1 you with a hammer , since arcanas are instant spells.
Fire (burn) is great to set up Fire Grab.

As you can see, they’re both useful in their own way. But because EA provides a defensive option (water), it’s more popular. Because all eles are weak and squishy right? RGIHT? :p

And don’t underrate blind, it’s the ele best defensive option against dps burst. Imagine warrior’s F1, engie’s shield throw, thief’s s/p stun.

I don’t get the sentiment towards solo ele pvp. I have no problem fighting anyone unless it’s a bunker. I’ll admit that when I returned to play toward the end of September after a long hiatus, the previous pvt ele has gotten weaker. But I took some time to look the traits again, and see how eles are played, on either youtube or stream. After that, I began my soloq breeze again, won 40 matches in less than a week, with 4 hours of play time each day, sometimes more, sometimes less. And there are 2 occasions where I was able to get a 10 wins streak — proudly acquired my championship title.

Um.. I think we’re getting off track here lol.
To answer the OP, support does thing like provide boons, clear conditions, (additional) cc’s, and reviving. Think bunker in pvp, may times when the berserker bursted our berserker, it often leaves them in the state of long cool down, rendering them less functional. And if the support can revive them every time, it’s a no win situation for the opposing.

Also I’m pretty sure most support build will use cleric, and that can be identify as a tanker stats, and any skills/attacks they take leave more room for the DPS to breathe.

Furthermore, some healing skills are better than the other, and some utility skills are better than the other. Like Guardian’s stability skill has a low cool down relative to elementalist’s stabilty skill. But ele has a trait that gives stability when attuned to earth. It’s not completely unfair, because guardian would have to trait their shout too.

Yeah. I use 1-5 as normal, WER are my movement, D for dodge, ASFG for attunements, ZXCV for utilities and elite, Q for heal. But I find that even with that I have a tendancy to stand still while I focus on attunements and throwing out as many spells as I can as fast as possible >_> I am a terrible gamer.

funnest thing id do with flamewall in pvp is in d/f, drop earth sig immobilize, burning speed and drop flamewall while charging and if i did it right they were stuck burning in the middle of a flaming cross. looked cool but thats about it.

Now that got me thinking, perhaps we could have flamewall and dagger 4 synergise with dagger 3. Like when you cast burning speed through a fire field, it’ll cause an additional explosion at the intersection. Not necessarily make d/d stronger because dagger 4 is often used after dagger 3, but it’d make d/f more interesting.

As for fire aura, maybe make it a mini arcane shield? Perhaps not blocking attacks, but explode when it ends.

And my biggest irks of all is not focus, but water scepter skill 2…

Dungeon reset timer?

What is the exact number?

Daily resets at 5pm, so many assumed that dungeon also reset at that time.

But I’ve confirmed it that it does not. Me and some buddies did AC at 4 30 pm pst, path 2. We redo it again after path 1 and 3 (past 5pm pst), it gave me 20 pieces.

I did SE yesterday at 5 pm pst, and today at 4 pm pst. I still get 20 pieces.

So if dungeons have a reset timer of 24 hrs, it’s a very bad timer!

Say I do AC 5 pm today or any time for that matter, the timer forces me to do it again exactly 5 pm tomorrow or later. Which I can’t keep track of and I shouldn’t have too!

So what would hapkitten I would end up doing the dungeon later and later and eventually it would end up at 2 AM or something.

any class has AoE skills, to farm effectively, just get in a group. Damage threshold that is needed to tag an enemy is reduced and shared between party members
