If they gave us weapon swap you can guarantee the they would put kits on a 30 second or more cooldown. No thanks i would rather have kits the way they are than swap.

Elitism harming the game? (PvE)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Setay.2135

It’s not the elitism that is the problem. It’s the parrots that follow them. The elitist are the guys I love. They put out the best and most optimal builds for you to play around with. They show their skill in youtube videos and just make it fun to browse character builds online.

There is one key thing to note though. Those elitist…the real ones most people will probably never group with. The ones that pug and put in Meta only and come on the boards and say this class is not meta and so forth are NOT the elite.

Those are the guys that if you wipe in a dungeon even with full meta will disband instantly thinking it’s not worth their time. It’s funny the elite would never actually do that. They are actually too GOOD to do that . Not that they wont wipe because mistakes happen but because they arent going to let something like that stop them.

Those are the guys that you will see with full berserkers and best (optimal traits) and wont know how to play them and be on the ground more often then not.

So a suggestion for those here. Listen to the people who claim elite on the boards here because there is some truth to their posts. Learn what is best and most optimal because some day you may want to play that way. However completely disregard anyone who says (such and such profession sucks) They are just idiots.

Also unless you like running with trolls and wannabes dont join meta only groups. It’s just not a fun experience if you’re actually any good at the game. You will find most of the time it’s you who end up soloing bosses.

I’ve gotten used to the stupid recovery and resolve bug. However in breaking the cooldowns between the two they instituted a beneficial bug.

I’m only putting this here because i’d rather then fix the bug above quicker if they know what the benefits of having it broken are.

If you have the traits Mender’s Purity and Harmonious Mantras each use of Power Return adds 2 charges of Mantra Strength (3% stacking) I use my heals offensively twice to build 4 charges + one other mantra to get 15% extra dmg in a few seconds.

The reason that Power Return works this way is because of the crossover with resolve. It thinks i’m using both Power return and Power Cleanse (resolve) at the same time without expending a charge. The offset of this connection is that stupid bug that puts resolve on cooldown if it’s not charged.

Seriously when i have mantra of recovery prepared and matra of resolve not. Mantra of recovery is putting mantra of resolve on cooldown for 20 seconds each time I press the button.

This is not happening in the mists. Just in the normal pve game world.

Well not only did they nerf the recharge in the background they also nerfed the unprepared mantras.

Have mantra of resolve off of cooldown (meaning no stacks) then charge up Mantra of recovery. Now use mantra of recovery. It puts Resolve on 20 second cooldown and refreshes that cooldown every time you push recovery.

Way to fix an apparent “bug” while giving us another one.

This was an excellent change. Mobility skills on weapons were not put in the game to move around a map quickly. They were there for combat hence why they were on weapon skills.

Swiftness and 25% run speed increase your map crossing skills.

Weapon move abilities should in fact move you a certain distance every time. That’s their job and what they are supposed to do. I’m unsure why this is a problem…

Just so everyone knows Teq is supposed to be critable. Not teq is supposed to be critable in a very small space that has absolutely no target. No the place is not the head and no it’s not a spot you can target from afar. you HAVE to stand directly underneath between the front legs. You know where the poison drips down on you.
The issue right now is that they turned on crits and doubled the health and left for the day without realizing that they forgot to actually set the crit boxes to the targetable areas. Right now his hitbox is the size of a normal mob not a boss.
I expect that this will be fixed sometime this week. For all of those expecting the fight to stay like it is all I can say is yeah right. It’s a bug. Given the amount of pressure being given here it’ll get fixed rather quickly.

Any good ele build now?

I put this fairly nice spec together after messing around with various builds. It revolves around putting out some rather respectable dps while still managing to be extremely tanky.

http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=-o;4B2kU0A5oN-Z0;9;4021;0247048256;4Oo0;3t_MTt_MTn-FSF6;4V1-60B1G2LZR_6uVIF31W8q

It has so many things going for it. It generates a huge amount of might from all of the fire line. I’m almost always refreshing auras which in turn keep me with almost 100% uptime on protection. That and I’m not pigeonholed to any one weapon. I can use any weapon set with this build.

The soothing mist keeps my health up there which means it’s really hard for any enemy (pve) to apply any conditions at all to me. There’s a huge amount of customization too. I dont need to worry about conditions well I can drop
diamond skin and pick up written in stone. I can change burning fire to burning precision.

I do have to complain about one thing but it’ll be brief. I so love Evasive arcana and it was so hard for me to give up the arcane line. However it lost almost all synergy with being an elementalist. With the removal of lingering elements that line feels so clunky and out of place.

I feel switching to an element should feel meaty and worthwhile. With Arcana i’m stuck with two lines that i’ve built into and two rather worthless lines that dont benefit me except to use the abilities and get out as soon as possible.

With the way I specced the only thing i’m missing is some additional precision from air a little bit of additional damage (lightning strikes) and of course Evasive Arcana which I feel is the only reason to go arcane.

Rant over.

Found dead: the 'Zerker meta?

I think that all this talk about gear doesn’t matter until encounter design changes. I think what needs to happen is completely obliterate the ability to stack on every dungeon/open world boss.

The current meta of everyone stack here requires absolutely no skill except the occasional dodge now.

One thing would add skill back into this game. Bosses should do a blanket AE with no cast time and no warning signs.

This ae should do 20% damage to everyone who is directly next to someone else make it 5 meters. next to one person 20% no biggie. Next to 5 everyone wipes.

There should be no stacking in the game at all. There’s no reason for it. It adds nothing. It just reminds me of every other game where a tank holds a mob still and everyone beats on it. There is absolutely no difference except as a group we make up a tank.

Setay.2135

I still hold that the best way to fix any and all metas is to move away from stats entirely. Have your gear influence certain builds instead of stats directly.

Obviously adjust the amount of damage that the monsters/players do directly or adjust the amount of damage you can absorb or hps you have to compensate for less stats.

After that your gear will influence certain abilities instead of stats.

Say you want to be a tanky warrior for whatever reason. Then your leg armor will give you the added benefit of your shield block skill to allow you to absorb attacks that anyone else in the party would take instead at a reduced damage to yourself.

Then have the leg armor allow you to reflect the other part of the damage back on the attacker.

That way your gear influences how you want to play your character instead of you having to build your character based on the gear others “require” you to use.

It would open up a whole world of possibility and weapon sets that would drastically alter the way you play them. One person might be using my example above and another might instead use a piece of armor that allows their shield bash skill to do massive damage to a bleeding foe instead of a charging stun.

The possible combinations would be endless especially with weapon sets. I think this would add so much build diversity.

thefantasticg why do you lfg at all? I’m not going to leave a group if I dont run zerk just because you dont like it. you’re free to kick me but then I wonder why you LFG at all. Just run with others that are of the same mindset.

If you LFG expect that you will get people who don’t fit your playstyle. Sure you can kick them all you want but that drives people away from the game who may not know the fights just because you’re unwilling to give a little.

The only reason people run Zerk meta is because of all the brainwashing that has happened from the sheep who instill this sort of fear on the masses that if they dont go that way they’ll never be allowed to group.

I’m personally unaffected by such outlandish claims that things have to be done a certain way. I will always accept others even though almost all of my characters run zerk gear.

As a matter of fact I will always leave a group that kicks another player for not gearing what they consider properly. I then group with that person and find others to join.

People should know that not everyone in this game is a jerk.

Setay.2135

The problem is that no matter what happens no matter the stat combination that becomes king there will always be a meta run by the elite.

The second problem is that there are sheep who aren’t elite idolize those that are and spout of drivel about zerk or gtfo. The way you can tell is that those people LFG instead of running with the people they know who fit the same mindset as them.

The game does not require you to build a certain way. That’s a player driven requirement. You always help others just by being in their group provided that you have any skill at all. Even if your stats are less than optimal you still provide companionship and bring something to those you group with. Really anyone who says differently aren’t really those you want to group with anyway.

Haven’t followed EQNext that much but it kinda sounds like they are adopting Path of Exiles system where gems in your item slots are linked to do different things like adding AOE to one skill for example or lowering it’s resource cost.

The only issue I can see from this is that in Path of Exile a majority of the builds required a certain setup and every armor/weapon piece had a different amount of slots that could be linked and thus link abilites and effects togheter.

That meant that a item that had 6 slots that were also linked to each other were BIS because you could fit a skill + every effect you wanted to have. The issue with this was that you needed to play some other build until you found an item with 6 slots and when you finally found one, because of how hard it was to get one/expensive to buy from players it could be very hard to upgrade the item without losing slots.

Now I don’t know how it’ll work in EQNext I can only attest to PoE which was a Play to Win game (those who had a good network of ppl to trade with and also had all of the time in the world to play were the only ones to be able to play the builds how they wanted).

All others had to play “less expensive” builds because they were never ever going to get a 6 slotted chest that were linked and were never going to be able to play the more fun specs because they required so many effect linked to one skill that you needed a 6 slot chest which like I said is not something you just find.

I’ve never played Path of Exile so I cant really speak on that one. I do think the idea is sound though. It’s possible that it may work the same way.

I did see that yes you are correct that you will have to play around with different builds until you get the item that fits your playstyle which could be annoying but GW could always offset this by allowing you to choose the ability set up that you want. Maybe Blue ties to the 2 pt talents and tier one skills. Green to 4 pt and tier two skills, Yellow to 6 pt and tier three skills and finally Gold to all tiers and and all skills even elites.

Finally ascended could just be stronger Gold.

Have a cost associated with amending your choice of talent tie in. Either gold cost or gem cost instead of having to make a new set of gear for each playstyle or if desired have a second set of gear which would really be no different than now.

That way it’s less grindy as is GW2’s philosophy and still works the same way.

Bring Back Holy Trinity

Setay.2135

GW2 does not need the trinity to be reinstated but there absolutely must be something done about the current Meta or else it’ll never change.

I really really like what everquest next is doing. From everything I’ve read they are doing away with stats entirely.

Instead every piece of gear you get upgrades an ability for a class and links some abilities to others.

If they did that here it would be amazing. It’s like if your chest piece augmented one of your talents making it work better with a certain slot skill or adding an additional effect. Or if your ring made your heal have additional effects.

That would add way more diversity to every profession. It would be closer to GW1 style of character building without changing the current gameplay. Without stats everyone would be able to build the way they want to and not what others dictate to them is the best. Sure there would be “this ability is better than this one” but with so many potential options it would take a very long time to determine what is best.

Just my two cents.

err that is basically one big open-world raid zone. You can solo through the map for completion and leveling, but to suggest the raid content in the zone needs to be soloable is just ridiculous. Go to frostgorge? kitten easy there.

The problem though is that the zones are not soloable to completion. I’d love to see someone try to solo the Balthazar shrine to get the skill point. It’s freaking hard to do duo and it respawns very fast. Not to mention the Area affect burning that just randomly happens when you stand still.

Actually I have a MUCH better idea. There should be a daily/weekly laurel reward for retaking EACH orr zone. That would solve it all! No nerf would be necessary and new players would get to see all of Orr as they should see it. That way the “purists” wouldn’t see a nerf to the zone and would give people reasons to go there.

Orr completion and leveling

Posted by: Setay.2135

Setay.2135

So as I wandered around a bit of orr today I noticed a few things.

1. The entire first zone is completely contested meaning it was completely blocked off in it’s entirety and no waypoints were usable. So I tried to help out the war effort by taking some things back. Starting at the large encampment on the shore I pushed the orrians off land into the water. My wife and I were the only two attempting this and we lost a few submarines in the water. At one point the only way to ensure survival of our submarines was that I had to stay with them and constantly feed them regeneration.

We completed that event and pushed further to kill a few of their ships near the mines in the water. Finally we reached land and this is where the problem occurred. Once land was reached it was impossible for us to take it. It wasn’t by fault of anything we were doing. There were just too many orrians. They kill all our attacking force and kill their morale which forces them back in the water.

For just the two of us it was impossible for this event to be completed and it was NOT a group event. That means that anyone that’s even remotely new to the game will not see the epic pushes the we witnessed at the beginning of the game. Not being able to do the push efforts solo is bad and it’s not good for this game. They really should scale based on number of people proximity.

All non champion events should be able to be completed by just one person.

2. Because the zone is blocked off (because duo we couldn’t take strategic positions as listed above) some areas are much too difficult. Ie. there’s a skill point in that same zone south of relay waypoint at a temple. Now the temple is filled with veteran cultists that summon a 3 or 4 non veteran cultist while you fight them and continue to do this until the veteran is dead. Duo it was very difficult to push to the skill challenge but when we got there we had to contend with two veteran cultists and it just was not possible for us to get the challenge started and contend with both cultists at the same time.

If we had the ability to take this temple solo that wouldn’t be an issue but there’s not. So we’re forced to treat this zone like a dungeon but one in which no one would be willing to do in a pug. (I mean who really wants to do that)

I don’t mind having to take a zone to complete it. I do mind that it’s not possible solo and is very frustrating as a player to be blocked because of low population in these zones.

Please Anet I understand people don’t want to lower the difficulty of this game and I get that but it causes a rift between those that started the game (like I did on other characters) and those that are starting now. I would be seriously tired of dying all the time just to complete zones if I were new. Not to mention missing out on all of the content in place because very few people go there for just the reason listed above.

Thanks and sorry for the rant all. Just want my voice heard.

I want high damage ranger build suggestions!

Honestly I can regularly put out some respectable dps but I play a little unorthodoxly. I do like the angry birds spec and love to use the birds for my dps. I use my birds like I would use a weapon attack on my hotkeys. I consider them very big damage and regularly get 4k dmg from then on the F2 attack all the way up to 14k (2 attacks at 7k each) with a full stack of might.

I use shortbow so that I can manage the pets easier. All I have to do is worry about my positioning as best as possible. Other then that I consider my pets bombers. Send in with F2. If I’m lucky they also get off their other high damage attack then I immediatly hit F3 when I see F2 on cooldown.

This style of play allows me two things. The birds have a guaranteed hit. There’s really no way to avoid them as they fly strait at someone instead of following them. Sure they can be avoided but I consider them like arrows. (high damage arrows) I switch them every chance I get so that the F2 is up as much as possible.

It takes a bit of practice doing this. The only time I leave my bird full time on a boss is when under the influence of Rampage as one and Quickening Zephyr. Though this is worrysome and the only time my pet dies against bosses in the game. So far it’s actually working out pretty well. It actually feels pretty powerful when I play it right and stuff just melts.

Looking for guild on Dragonbrand

Setay.2135

Hello all. My wife and I are looking for an active PVE guild on Dragonbrand. We do enjoy PVP/WVW but we definitely prefer the PVE evironment more at least until we’ve done it all many times.

Some backstory. We have both played the casual circuit and full hardcore 7 day mandatory raiding circuits. We’ve played so many MMOs over the years with Everquest 1 for 5 years and World of Warcraft for about 7. Not to mention many other games along the way. Guild wars 2 has pretty much hooked us.

When we started the game we had convinced a lot of friends from our various games over the year to give it a try. We formed a guild and were doing very great. We completed quite a few dungeons and the first two to completion. After that other people’s interest just faded out. Now we’re the only two regulars left in our current guild.

While we waited for them to get tired of “Panda land” we both have since leveled up 4 characters to 80. Me Warrior, Necromancer, Guardian, and Ranger. Her Elementalist, Necromancer, Guardian, and Ranger. I get this feeling our friends just aren’t as enthusiastic about this game as we are.

So here we are looking to get to know a new group of people who share our common interest. If you have any questions please ask. Also we’re definitely on an East Coast time slot. My general play time weekly is roughly 8pm est to Midnight with all day weekends.

Let me know in game. Current character’s name is “Claw Some”
