“Your skill will be your Legend.”
Original Guild Wars Prophecy Box.Nope, not skill, not in GW2.

That’s why some of us can deal with elementalists and some can’t?
You do require skill in GW2, it’s just that you require most of it in high level dungeons/ fractals and WvW/ Spvp.
Dont post another opinion and use it as facts…It doesnt help your case…
GW2 is less about acquiring gear, less about acquiring skills, and more about farming gold to buy items from the cash shop.
At least you can use in-game currency to buy things from the cash shop.
Yea, because doing actual in game things to acquire items is far more boring than just farming X amount of gold to buy it.
Either get gold ANYWAY you want so that you can buy it off CS OOOOOOORRRRR….RNG…
Best looking area to me is Mt. Maelstrom. Worst looking is definitely Cursed Shore
All in all, im assuming that most ppl are looking on GW1 with the reminisce goggle thats makes gold out of mess. GW1 was an amazing game, but i think thats being exaggerated greatly by looking back

Where in the genre title “Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game” does it mention anything about open world.
Massively multiplayer…
This is not only a silly answer to that question but also a widespread misinterpretation of “MMORPG” as it means no less than an internet-based computer game set in a virtual world, which can be played by many people at the same time, each of whom can interact with the others by their in-game characters in a roleplaying fashion.
GW1 with its heavy use of instances is no less an MMORPG than GW2.
And even if the open world criteria would apply, then GW2 wouldnt count as one either as every region is an instance too, just as in GW1.
Only difference is the maximum player capacity per region (say 100 intead of 6, respectively 12 for Urgoz etc). Its basically the same method as used for GW1 which should even be recognized by the most unsavy observer when using a portal.
Now people set a standard for MMORPGs and may expect those to have an “open world” and mean by that a world without loading screens and/or being able to meet others within a region but outside your group.
However, MMORPG =/= Open World =/= MMORPG.
Open World is the perceived result of the technology how the world is being rendered and data processed (streamed, instances etc).
And thats also why GW2 can be compared to GW1 by all means.
By your definition D2 online/D3 can be considered an MMO then right?
Im confused, people are saying if they made a game like gw1 they would go there and never look back. Are the gw1 servers down? Did they give some kind of closing date?
The community left in droves, or rushed to complete everything available before the launch of GW2. That means that it’s a barren wasteland for the most part now, and it’s receiving no new content updates either.
GW1 can still be played solo with heroes and henchmen, people leaving doesnt disturb the ‘single player’ instances
^ Good thing Magic: The Gathering can still be played even tho checkers is there…

Ok since i need to be VERY specific. In gw2 everyone has to do damage and rarely gets heal from other person. In GW1 the tanks were usually the tougher ones that does cripple kite and harass, they can count on being healed by the healer and the dmg dealers would do the true dmg. So ok it wasnt a ‘hard’ trinity where tanks stay and soak up all the dmg but its alot more cut than GW2
Not sure how you come by the fact that GW2 was designed to be solo. Being able to go solo I think is something different entirely. If heroes where reintroduced everyone could say goodbye to doing dungeons with anyone apart from close friends. Build diversities wouldn’t increase because all skills available to your group now would be the same builds available to with heroes. So get a group of friends and try all those builds that your interested in seeing.
GW1 seems deeper because of the holy trinity, so everyone goes as far in their role as possible. GW2 can be as deep but I personally think Anet needs to make EVERYTHING more difficult to achieve this.
As to pvp i honestly think the lineup in GW2 is limited. GW1 was sooo much more interesting and diverse, here i have no argument with you
(edited by Shadey.2180)
Now what i can say is, beta 1 last year was extremely interesting because it was soo much more difficult. Not sure the reason they nerfed ow mobs but im sure they have a good reason to do so. Maybe thats what you are missing…difficulty
Wrong. By your logic, GW2 is a glorified expansion of eevry single generic mmo out there. I’m not asking for the entirity of gw1 to come back, but only some of its features.
GW1 is an outdated game nowadays (the engine is many years old), and it is no longer supported, balanced or expanded by anet.
GW1 does not need an expansion pack. It needs a sequel.
Gw2 is a MMORPG so by that definition alone it will have similarities with other MMORPGs. FYI GW2 runs on a modified GW1 engine.
GW1 had serious balancing issues, so multiclassing would be a nightmare in a full mmo.
GW2 is a proper mmo so bringing back heroes and henchmen would make it into a solo game where its more convenient to go solo in dungeons with ai than with other ppl like in GW1. Culling would be a nightmare in open world or if they ever remove culling alot of ppl would have unbearable lag.
GW2 is less than a year old, they can easily add more spells/abilities over time
The best thing i found with GW1 dungeons was collision so grps(myself with my heroes) could block certain gaps to create a proper tanking senario. GW2 doesnt use the holy trinity so thats void.
Cant think of what else you would look forward to now
That doesn’t makes sense. If GW2 took GW1’s strong points and made a new game with them, how would it be a glorified expansion? It would still be an unique game. How many MMOs in the market do you see with ai party management, deck-building skill mechanics or with strong pvp systems? If GW2 was a mix of the best things GW1 had to offer with the new things GW2 has to offer, it would have been far more unique of a game than it is now.
If that ever made it a “glorified expansion”, then we can make an equally wrong accusation and say that the current GW2 is a “glorified expansion of your average, generic mmo”, which isn’t true either.
What you consider to be GW1 strong points might not be universal and the only way to ensure that what everyone considers a strong point would be to just release another expansion for gw1. That way you would have everything GW1 with addition of the expansion. hence a glorified expansion
Questions for the gw1 players. Are you still playing gw1? If no why not? If yes then you are enjoying it, why ask for another game to be it?
I ask because MMORPG is a genre that has certain criterias. You change too much, you end up with something else, like GW1 which wasnt a MMORPG
Im confused, people are saying if they made a game like gw1 they would go there and never look back. Are the gw1 servers down? Did they give some kind of closing date?
For me GW2 took out most annoying things out of the usual mmo and made playing the game not about crazy grinding unless you wanted to get a legendary. Im happy that Anet decided to make a totally different game thats still unique in its own rights than to make a game where many ppl including me would consider a glorified expansion/dlc.
The game is currently b2p, I really dont mind that some gear(which has no benefits WHATSOVER) is only available in the cash shop. Gives me the option to not pay for it rather than pay every month like WoW
“Warrior’s 100blade is sooo useless in pve”
I actually think a better implementation is to have one guild and many groups, so people can be in a guild do allh their guildie stuff and still communicate with whatever groups they join.
The worst thing i think is allowing everyone to max all crafting so there will never be a real need for someone with specific craft or a true market for it.
ALso as Zerospin said, there are no rare drops or recipe(would love to see a instruction that can only be crafted only by people who acquire it)
Everything in the game is EASILY availabe minus a few SKINS, where the only way you see it possible is gem store. How DARE arenanet try to FORCE us into using their store
If it seems to difficult, why not try to get your guildies to assist you in the money making process?
‘Lack of any real loot is a huge problem for ME’ should have been the title
then the proper responses would have been
“Cool story bro”
if you are not happy with this game, or feel like it is not what you expected

^^ And in the same breath, people who come on forums to vent about a game they are going to quit think that anybody who doesnt agree with them are fanboi.
The problem with most forums are that majority of people who actually post on them are complainers and they wont feel satisfied until the game fails and most people quit. Some even come after leaving the game for 3-4 weeks to still shoot down any positive post
Im now playing a thief and I must admit, I had a harder time levelling my Guardian and engineer.
Pistol whip…..what pistol whip?
Should I say thieves are op now? or should I say you just dont know how to play a thief…
Many people saying DE are zerg fest, but in RIFT when a MAP boss appears it was even more of a zergfest than anything ever in GW2 and that had the ‘AMAZING’ holy trinity. All that was needed was 1 geared tank to ‘hold aggro’ and a healer or 2 and everyone else just leans back and ‘spam’ macros. I personally had my rogue with 15+ skills down to spamming 3 buttons doing 1k+ dps at the time(3 months after launch before i saw what it was and quit).
Point is Zergfest will always seem like a zergfest when too many people are around. The beauty of GW2 can only truly be seen once you try a new character and play in these ‘lowpop’ zones where DEs are done with a few people where skills ACTUALLY shine
1. There are a lot of people who keep comparing this game to GW1, which I think is just plain dumb. I played Prophecies from day 1 before it was even call prophecies and even though I had IMMENSE fun leveling, after the story quest was over there was nothing to do but replay the SAME zones to get completion and to do FoW/Underworld runs which cost 1 plat per team(at the time I would estimate 1 plat = GW2 100gold) and for underworld required that a monk come with a specific build or the team would be 1 shotted by ANYTHING, which would then kick everyone out and would require another 1 plat to reenter. PVP was strictly stupidly broken builds. Waypoints were free because the alternative would be to get a team to fight back to where you wanted to go, in some cases team wipe = start all over.
GW2 cannot stay and GW1 because its a totally different game, not like most generic console game(like HALO, which is me just hating) where you can LITERALLY just keep adding .2 to the original(HALO 1, HALO 1.2, HALO1.4 etc).
GW1 is still up and totally available for people who like dual professions/theory crafting 1.1million skills/Heroes(which i think personally TOTALLY changed the game from being multiplayer) so please stop requesting a GW1.5 out of GW2, its not, will never be, and thank heavens for that.
2. Legendaries…this is an easy one
Its too hard/too grindy/RNG sucks/Mats too expensive…GOOOOOD!! that just means if I eventually get it, you still wont have one. Look on the up side at least this grind isn’t required for you to move on to ‘the new raid that will make 3 months of grinding this raid gear useless’. THE END. DO NOT DISCUSS
3. Having a problem about how the game is then move on, its your own fault for buying into the ‘hype’ and not looking on the 1 million videos and articles that were available long before the game was available for prepurchase
FYI Arenanet NEVER said there would be no grind, what they said is there would be no grind that was necessary to progress, which i still see holds true
4. BUGS will always be apart of game development whether its 2004 or 2012, especially when creating something NEW. If this is a problem then treat games like how I’m sure most people treat other form of software, wait awhile for the developer of whatever software to work out all the kinks before purchasing. Outside of that, EXPECT BUGS!!!
5. YES Arenanet did something NEW. A mmo where events lead into other events and consequences are apart of the levelling experience, where each event, no matter how small has a story behind it. Where theres no such thing as quest hubs, or quest logs, or grey quests(how i HATED this), or mounting up and cursing when something 20 levels below you manges to dismount you(hated this in RIFT), or dungeons have 1 and only 1 path that can only be completed once per day, or raids that become the bane of ones existence once its on farm and can only be completed once per week which made the week of gaming that game only 2hrs, or buying a game only to have it totally and utterly change on me once I hit level cap(ENDGAME is just a feature to keep people playing/paying)
Im not saying games that are like that are bad, just saying it no longer interest me and im sure many like me.
If in any other game you reached max level and are FULLY geared what else is there to do other than to sit be quiet and hand over your money and WAIT? This Happened to people within two months in my guild in rift when I was in maximation. The sole purpose was to just go to raid once per week to get other people geared. So how I see it, at least there are still many goals to work towards no matter how slow and long it might take or simply stop playing until some new content has been added
The price of them isn’t so much an issue, but forcing us to use six fine transmutation stones to use it usable really grinds my gears. Make it like the HoM rewards, an appliable skin
Agreed, then dont do it
It’s a gold sink, pure and simple. If you like the look of the gear then slowly save up money for each piece and transmute it to the stats you want and need. SLOWLY.
The thing being is that eventually gold in this game will mean literally nothing to you.
Once you have your stat gear the only thing that will matter is…. looks. Except for Travel, repairs, and WvWvW the only thing you will have to pay for is….. LOOKS.If you like the look of the T3 gear (which for me is heavy and I hate the look of it so I won’t buy it ever) then slowly work for it. It’s an achievement (which again I have no clue what the points will be used for if anything so again it’s just meaningless numbers right now) so once you get it you will get an achievement for owning it.
It’s something that could take you a year to earn if you are casual or for some it could take weeks or months.
It’s neither here nor there to get upset about it as the stats are pointless on it. If you want it then slowly work toward it. It’s a carrot on a long long stick.
+1 minus the carrot on a long long stick. That would be if there was some random variable like a dice roll chance for something you need to drop. This is a straight forward goal that is static and the road to achieve it is VERY clear
There were no equivalent sets in the first game. Equivalent sets in the first game would have had the price of 15k armor but the stats of level 18 gear.
There was no transmutation the original guildwars so any expensive gear bought would have to be at the max level.
People complaining about price should all be shot
Seriously now guys, if you think its too overpriced then the value you put on the look might me too low, not everyone has your view. People buy it because they want the look, even if they themselves might think its overpriced.
IF ITS TOO EXPENSIVE DONT BUY IT
Mars, that made me laugh soo hard..THANKS
For load times, ive noticed a slight increase but that might be due to the fact that you pointed it out to me and not actually a real increase
I agree with everything OP said up until he said endgame should be a adding to my character…
Now my question is, how does any other mmo make you continue your character? Please dont said RAID because nothing is more repetitive than that and doing things is GW2 is way better than when a raid dungeon is on farm
Its designed to be a grind if you want to do it. How long after release of other mmos do you get the best gear in the game(comparable since in GW2 look = best gear)? Game is not out 2 months yet everyone is complaining about getting everything is taking too long and it feels too much of a grind. How I see it, if its just cosmetic then dont complain if your not willing to put in the work to get what you want, dont say something is a grind if you decide to grind for something with no gain but to look.
Please just stop complaining about basic stuff like this and work towards it. Other people have done it, so can you. Might take longer than them because of time or your less skilled or whatever but in the end, if you want a look for your character work for it.
P.S This is a mmo, without long term goals whats the point?
For the expensive travelling costs, GW1 was all about instances so to go from point A to B involved either doing an instance for 20+ minutes or using the free WP. In GW2 all major cities can be reached free of cost if you use the Asura gates(go to heart of the mist > lions arch> any major city) and from there RUN or if you are lazy like most other people spend a fee(which i dont think is that high) and go straight to where you need to be.
OK, from what i read…
Lets add world pvp so that people who doesnt want to be griefed are, instead of having 4 whole maps to world pvp other people who are expecting it. And then have everyone end up doing dungeons ONLY because they hate being interrupted while levelling
For dungeons, lets remove that STUPID reducing rewards and just add dungeon daily lockouts like most other mmos out there.
Lets allow legendaries to be easier to have so that everyone can have it and there is no need to call them legendaries anymore
Totally agree with OP on them removing spvp modes as a wrong move. I can see where having in server guild battles might be counterproductive since said same guild would need to work together for WvW, BUT they could have at least a cross server GvG
As for the name Guildwars please go read the reason its called that and not speculate that it means guilds currently having war
For the social aspect, personally I also feel its lacking. I understand the reason for preventing DE farming, but for the love of everything holy PLEASE increase the karma rewards from other non level 80 zones…PLEASE
And please remember, Anet never promised no grinding, what they promised is you wont be locked out of ANY content if you dont(no need to grind if you dont want to, but for people who do its there)
EDIT: I LOVE wpvp, i bought rift because of it, BUT there was noone in the world to actually fight, everyone was either in dungeons asap or in warfronts.
(edited by Shadey.2180)
Was actually going to respond to OP, but realised he was trolling…
For someone who server first a raid dungeon in WoW its amazing to actually see the rage in being killed in a difficult area. Dont you have friends or guildies you can ask for assistance?
If jumping puzzles were easy, it would be no fun accomplishing that(what if your server first raid instance was easy, would u feel the need to say you did it?)
Its been said over and over, vistas are optional, if you feel frustrated move on and come back at a later time or just leave it be. If u want to have world completion, heres a suggestion, WORK for it, I know people with that star beside their name, one is a close friend and he didnt glitch anything to get it…
For Orr, many people were and still is complaining about the lack of guild endgame, yet it has been said that a whole map is geared towards group events. If you want to solo and not a warrior/guardian dont go Orr, its simple as that.
