I’m quite certain Anet is working on another game and are just releasing LS stuff they have made for GW2 a year ago by a small team at slow pace in order to drag the gap between this and the next game…

That’s it! So I would say, everything is fine with GW2, as long as the main team is working eagerly on something like Guild Wars 3…

At this rate...a big let down.

Guild Wars 2 was officially announced 23 months after the release of Guild Wars Prophecies and a year ago ArenaNet already admitted that they are working on certain „long term projects“. So maybe they will unveil the development of a next generation mmo soon…

…It’s been 20 months since GW2 release, and we still don’t have any storytelling improvements…

04/2005 Prophecies
09/2005 Sorrow’s Furnace update
04/2006 Factions
10/2006 Nightfall
03/2007 GW2 officially announced
08/2007 Eye of the North expansion
08/2012 GW2 release

So if there comes an official announcement within the next 3 months for Guild Wars 3 being in development, everything will be on schedule…

Something big is coming in 2014

—— so what could possibly be better than an expansion?

An announcement for Guild Wars 3 being in development!

The only thing I know about GvG is, that it was one of the best game modes of GW1. Of course the WvW is not a perfect place for GvG, but I can understand the community’s desperate attempt to get some kind of eSport feeling in this casual-based MMO.

Not taking care of griefing issues is one thing, but telling people ingame how they have to play “their” game is another…

As I cannot support intolerance and ignorance, I just got 20GB of additional free space on my hard disk…

….
(I haven’t played much of GW1, but why does it sound so much better than the sequel in many ways?)

GW1 was a masterpiece – and compared to this GW2 is a nice try… So I hope they are already working on GW3!

What I don’t like:
1. Additional stat-buffs for the winning team!
2. WvW without orbs!
3. RNG-matchmaking!
4. A matchmaking that is directly based on the glicko-rating!

What I would like to see:

I. Bloodlust

  • Keep the new ruins of power as they are
  • Just replace the stat-buff with other things like +WXP, -repaircosts, +XP, +karma…

II. Orb-System

  • Reintroduce the old capture-the-flag-like orb-system
  • Every orb gives a point-bonus (+10% to the points per tick or something like +50 points).
  • An orb for the 1st server (total score) gives a penalty of -50 to the players stats.
  • An orb has no stat-effects for the 2nd server.
  • An orb for the 3rd server gives a bonus of +50 to the players stats.
  • Counter hacks with a circle around the orb platform, where at least 10 enemies have to be inside for getting access to the orb.

III. Matchmaking

  • Keep the glicko-rating
  • Use a modified 1up-1down-System
  • Let a server go up to the next bracket after winning two matches in a row
  • Let a server go down to the next bracket after losing two matches in a row
  • The server swaps will be done according to the actual glicko-rating

Last year they removed this unbalanced stat-buff, as it only "strengthened teams who are already winning ". And now the same unbalanced buff is back again?! What’s going on here?

GW2 unlikely to get expansions [Interview]

…there are numerous teams beyond our Living World teams, and some of them are working on much longer term projects which we’ll go into details on much further down the road…

…We have no final plans one way or another about expansions at this time, and certainly haven’t ruled them out, it’s something we’ll discuss more in the future…

So there are teams working on “long term projects”, but currently not on expansions… Ok, I really hope, one of these projects is Guild Wars 3

WvWvW: Need ORBs to Return

The orbs were disabled in November 2012 and they still represent some of the biggest wvw problems:

Orbs bring further imbalanced to matchups that are already not balanced…

Balancing:
Turn the tables and let the orbs be an instrument of match balancing. Besides other effects the orbs could grant a stat buff in the hand of the losing server – and hold by the winning team they could mean a stat penalty. That way the orbs would do a better job than any type of outmanned-buff…

…It’s entirely probable that implementing a process that monitors every character’s every movement for being “within normal” would take up enough resources to bring the servers to a crawl / crash in high demand situations…

Hacking:
Change the mechanics so that it always requires a large group of players to get access to an orb. And in addition implement some check routines that don’t cause appreciable server load – e.g. if it is possible to validate a players/orbs coordinates, then only observe the path of the orb-runner…

…The problem is too little man power is put into wvw or class balancing. This will be the death of pvp/wvw, obviously…

Focus:
Draw attention to the development of wvw by linking it directly to the gem-store…

“WvW is already nice without orbs” …of course – but it could be far better with reintroducing them! To counter possible balancing issues, let the orbs be both a blessing and a curse at the same time:

  • An orb gives a bonus of +6% to the points per tick.
  • An orb for the 1st server (total score) gives a penalty of -3% to the players stats.
  • An orb has no stat-effects for the 2nd server.
  • An orb for the 3rd server gives a bonus of +3% to the players stats.

And to prevent hacking, just make the orbs accessible, when the keep lord and/or one of the inner doors is down.

Monthly fee is not an option – it’s absolutely old-fashioned! A micropayment-system without pay2win is still the best way to appreciate a good product. The only problem is, that there is no such system for WvW…

How to make devs care about WvW - solution

I totally agree with that idea. As everybody can see, there are many, many things the WvW-community wishes to be introduced, eliminated or just improved: queues, skill-lags, maps, orbs, ascended gear, commander-system, PvE-content, WXP, glicko-rating, balancing, hacking, exploiting, griefing and so on… But while working on these things you always have to deal with limited resources (development time, server power, server bandwidth, budgets,…). So if there is a close link between gem sales and WvW activity, it will be somehow easier to decide on the allocation of budgets and resources.

Some more examples for WvW-related gem store items:

  • Queue-Tickets: With introducing a kind of progress bar, you could see then a green and a red queue. Joining the green queue grants faster access to WvW but costs a queue-ticket. Waiting in the red queue just takes a bit longer…
  • Blueprints: They have to be set to account-binding and removed out of the jumping-puzzle-chests. Still they can be looted or bought at merchants but in addition it should be possible to buy them in the gem store.
  • WvW-Ascended-Gear: This could be a special equipment for level 80 characters, that provides ascended stats only while playing WvW. In PvE areas it is automatically downscaled to yellow stats.
  • WvW-Repair-Buff: Your armor takes no damage for a certain time or number of deaths.
  • WvW-Lootservice: For some time the content of loot-bags will be automatically put in your inventory as long as there is enough free space.
  • WXP-Unlock-Pack: Connect the WXP-score of one of your characters permanently to that from another one.

That’s the deal: Give more resources to the whole WvW project and just finance this with WvW-based gem sales…

Balances and Orbs of Power

The orb-fights on the borderlands were the most exciting and challenging battles I have ever experienced in WvW.

So, orbs with balancing effect – what about this?

  • Every orb gives a bonus of +10% on the points per tick.
  • Every orb for the 1st server (total score) gives a penalty of -3% on the players stats.
  • Every orb for the 2nd server gives no penalty on the players stats
  • Every orb for the 3rd server gives a bonus of +3% on the players stats.
