I was playing when the latest patch hit, but was unable to update. Now about 10 hours later I still can’t update, or even log in to my client for that matter, due to this message:

“A serious error has occurred that prevents the program from continuing to run. You can help us prevent this error from occurring in the future be reporting it to ArenaNet. Please press the Send button to report this error”

I sent a report. Still can’t log in to my client.

Viability of largos as a playable race

I think the largos are insanely interesting. Not only are they visually similar to dark elves (and who knows, maybe this is GW’s version) but they have a social structure that is based on their status being determined by how good they are in combat and the kinds of creatures they can bring down (reminds me of Predator actually) which are kind of like a trophy.
They’re like underwater ninja-assassin Predator dark elves! To me this is a lot more interesting than most of the other races, some of which come across as quite bland (humans, I’m looking at you).

Glint had to be freed from the control of Kralk, but how do we know that the Pale Tree seed wasn’t freed from the control of Mordremoth after it was taken from the cave and planted at the gravesite? We don’t. If it was somehow freed from Mordy’s control at that point, then this would explain a lot about the sylvari as PC’s and it would fit with the theory that ED Champions (and maybe even ED’s themselves) are capable of free will/fighting their intended purpose to become friend instead of foe

Question about Elder Dragon Champions

in Lore

Posted by: SheiyeSai.6037

SheiyeSai.6037

7 MONTHS AGO… I WAS RIGHT! All of you bashed me for saying the sylvari are servants of Mordremoth. Now who has pie on their face?

I know what the pale tree is. The Pale Tree was suppose to be the Champion of Mordremoth but it became like Glint. All the servants of Mordremoth, namely the Sylvari, are the offspring the Pale Tree spawned not only to protect herself but also fight against Mordremoth. This is why the sylvari cannot be corrupted by other elder dragons. They are essentially owned by Mordremoth.

Wow, even after everything was spelled out for you in the LS finale, you STILL got it wrong…
Go back and play through the last part again.

“Within the Dream is a nightmare, tugging at the heart of each sylvari” I got this quote from the wiki http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Dream_of_Dreams
My opinion on this topic is that the Dream, which as far as we know is unique to the Pale Tree, was created due to the seed being planted on a human gravesite. Whether this means that it is actually tapping into the Mists, the ‘ether’ or life force of Tyria or something else, this would mean that the Nightmare is separate from it, as it is caused by a Dragon (his will attempting to exert itself over them). So in essence, the Pale Tree/Dream = free will, Mordy/the Nightmare = corruption

Kormir would never expect you to kill a child. That hypothetical is ridiculous. And she is not about “justice above all else” which would make her a zealot or extremist, but order, spirit and truth which is fairly important in discerning her character. It would imply that not only would she be able to immediately discern the truth of the situation, but she would likely see the child’s spirit and know that they only stole to feed their family, but it would also imply that to be a guardian devoted to Kormir, you would be one who is willing to sacrifice themselves for others, to stand in front of others and act as a wall of protection, to be wise and able to discern the truth in situations and to be observant of the people around you, as opposed to a follower of Dwayna who would probably be more of a healer and support type guardian (and I can’t be bothered going into the characteristics but you get the picture)

Countess Anise - friend or foe?

in Living World

Posted by: SheiyeSai.6037

SheiyeSai.6037

I doubt Anise would ever turn out to be a foe. I’m just wondering what her angle is.

Generally, I don’t trust Anise. I’m willing to believe that she puts the Queen’s welfare above everything else, but ever since she pointedly left Logan out of planning the Queen’s protection while planning her jubilee celebration, I’ve wondered if she might be too paranoid to be dependable, at least for everyone who isn’t the Queen. It’s one thing to avoid leaks, but it’s another to keep relevant, proven people (Logan, the captain of the Seraph in Divinity’s Reach) in the dark. She’s good at what she does, sure, but one person can only be so good.

As for her age, I don’t think it’s anything outlandish, if possibly older than she appears. I’ve heard suggestions that she’s Livia from GW1, but I’m skeptical, mostly because the switch from powerful necromancer to powerful mesmer seems very clumsy as a narrative. It seems unlike that she’d be a focused necromancer up for ~180 years, until her last appearance in 1256AE, and then spend the next ~60 years (Jennah’s coronation was in 1316AE) learning mesmer magic and relying on that instead.

Well, Livia could probably, certainly master more than one magic in her 180 years. Not only that, but she also had the Scepter of Orr – the environmental skills attached to weapons in GW2, as we can see with several Personal Story instances, are obviously pretty expansive. We have to remember, too, that the NPCs don’t necessarily follow the same rules as our PCs do – in GW1 some enemies even had up to three professions, and NPCs like Palawa Joko and Mad King Thorn had several elite skills. So perhaps she is just a necromancer with some powerful illusions at her disposal. There’s really no telling, when it’s all said and done, what Livia and/or Anise could be capable of as NPCs.

I’m hesitant to draw any direct Livia -> Anise conclusions as well, though. I’m wondering if maybe Livia is Anise’s mother? Nobody really knows anything about Anise’s past.

Sadly though, the reaction to Canach’s question about her age just seems like a trope to me. I’m just that salty when it comes to the writing, I don’t think there’s anything there other than a jab at the social construct where it’s rude to assume anyone with two X chromosomes is older than they are.

I’d be pretty disappointed in the writers if that comment was meant as a cliched “never ask a woman her age” type reference.

During the summit held at the Pale Tree in the LS episode “The Dragon’s Reach Pt 2”, you can eavesdrop on a conversation between Anise (who is disguised as a sylvari, which in itself is highly suspicious) and Canach:

Countess Anise: I think you overestimate the value of being first. A windfallen fruit has never appealed to me as much as one left on the bough to ripen.
Canach: You do keep those blades of yours keen, Countess.
Countess Anise: Forgive my meddling, petal. It’s just that I see such potential in you.
Canach: Petal? I fear you’ve only employed me in order to sharpen your wit–or work on your plant puns. Why not prove me wrong and tell me your true purpose?
Countess Anise: All in good time.
Canach: Do you treat everyone you encounter like children?
Countess Anise: (laugh) You are a delicate flower, aren’t you? So easily bruised…
Canach: I have a thick skin. I also learn from my missteps. For example, you fooled me once with your illusions, so now I wonder if you’re truly as young as–
Countess Anise: Do not finish that sentence. Not here, not ever.
Canach: At least, a substantial response.
Countess Anise: Yes, well. You would be wise to remember your place and check that tongue of yours.
Canach: When will you tell me why you brought me here?
Countess Anise: I’m trying to decide if I can trust you out in the field. I mean, after that nasty business on Southsun. Tsk.
Canach: Regardless of what you may believe, I was trying to free those refugees from the Consortium’s exploitation.
Canach: I went about it…poorly. Criminally. And I answered for my crimes.
Countess Anise: Your intentions in that affair, whether noble or not, aren’t what concern me. It’s your failure to evade capture.
Canach: I beg your pardon?
Countess Anise: Noble intentions don’t interest me. What I need is a sharp instrument. A knife that can be employed before anyone realizes it’s struck.
Canach: Show me where to cut, Countess, and I will be your blade.

and then after the fight with the Shadow of the Dragon:

Countess Anise: Very well, Canach. Playtime is over and you’ve passed your audition. You’re to go with them.
Canach: Why?
Countess Anise: I want you to learn what you can about the Pact’s plans. Follow them to their staging area.
Countess Anise: I need someone there I know can get the job done, and I believe you may be that someone.
Canach: I shall prove you correct. Until we meet again.

Any theories on what she’s up to? Any guesses at how old she really is? And if she can disguise herself as a sylvari, how can we really be certain that it was actually Caithe that stole the egg?

My 2 cents = #1. the color of Rytlock’s armor and the amount of spikes it has means nothing in regard to his moral compass. Yes it’s very black, but most Necros wear a lot of black, Marjory wears a lot of black, and they’re not evil. White equals good and black equals bad is a terrible and cliche way of denoting a characters alignment and I trust ANet enough to think they wouldn’t go down that path.
#2. whether or not we do get a new class, I would love it if they could add fist weapons, whips, spears (I know we already have underwater spears, but we need them on land as well), scythes (Necro autoattack doesn’t count) or books (for magic users)

Caithe's Secret?

in Lore

Posted by: SheiyeSai.6037

SheiyeSai.6037

As I psoted in other thread, here is my copypasted theory:

“I think Caithe has a plan of getting close to a big bad (Mordie maybe, though I think Faolain) and needs the egg to gain that persons trust, to show she is on their side.
So she needs to steal the egg, to convince that evul person of her intentions, and then assassinate it her.
She did say “there is no time to explain”, after all. How many similar plots hidden behind “there is no time to explain” have you seen in books/movies/tv shows? Lots and lots I bet.”

She doesn’t need the egg to gain Faolain’s trust because they are lovers. She already has her trust. It’s foolish to think that Caithe is going to try to get close enough to Mordy to do a one shot kill. There’s no way a one shot kill could work.

Fair enough, but to turn the scrutiny around, how would the egg possibly be able to help the Pale Tree?

Fair question. I don’t know if I can answer it sufficiently. I believe that my vision in Omadd’s machine hints that the Pale Tree is connected to the elder dragons. I believe this because the light we approached resembled the Pale Tree and when we came out the other side, the light was the center of the sphere representing Tyria. One of the globes flew into the Tyria sphere pretty hard.

Anyways, I believe there is powerful magic in the egg. This powerful magic will somehow be used to heal the pale tree. Maybe even allow the pale tree to fulfill the role of an elder dragon. I suspect the pale tree would somehow absorb the magic in the egg. Of course, I could be way wrong.

Anyways, suddenly I hungrey for a ham, bacon and sausage omelet. Gotta go.

That vision you’re referencing is actually described more accurately here http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/The_All

Caithe's Secret?

in Lore

Posted by: SheiyeSai.6037

SheiyeSai.6037

I think her secret is related to what happened in the past when she and Faolain went after Wynne. Whether she killed Wynne or Malyck or any other sylvari, I have a feeling that the nature of her secret is related to murder. As mentioned above, in the White Stag storyline, she murders a member of the Nightmare Court even after the PC asks for them to be set free. This demonstrates a ruthless and dark side to her that I think will play into the LS.
As for the egg, my theory is that she is hoping to hatch it. Her Wyld Hunt is to kill one of the Elder Dragons and in hatching that egg, I think she is hoping to take out the ED and fulfill her Wyld Hunt.

I loved the sylvari lore (even if they did change some things randomly like the amount of time the firstborn were alone for) and the way that Faolain rebelled. I think when you understand the enormous amount of pressure from the Pale Tree to ‘be perfect’ it makes you sympathise more with her and the others who decided they didn’t want to be part of that world. HOWEVER, after that segment where they met the centaurs and found Wynne, I played through it and by the end I was really mad. Not only did Faolain do the exact same thing to the centaurs that the asura had previously done to them (which makes her a massive hypocrite) but Caithe doesn’t even question what they’ve done… so now I’m just disgusted in them both. Those centaurs were peaceful and were trying to protect Wynne from a gang of thugs. They didn’t deserve to die like that…

The Elder Dragons

Posted by: SheiyeSai.6037

SheiyeSai.6037

I’m surprised that I hadn’t known about this until now as I am always interested in the lore, but this particular piece of lore makes me think that at some point during the quest to kill all the Elder Dragons we will in fact realise that we are doing the wrong thing. Perhaps Caithe has already realised this and took the egg to replace Zhaitan?

The Elder Dragons

in Living World

Posted by: SheiyeSai.6037

SheiyeSai.6037

So I’ve found a post in the GW2 Wiki that refers to The All, described as “a cosmic mechanism that incorporates the world of Tyria and six bodies of power” which are assumed to be the six Elder Dragons. It also goes on to say that “The six bodies of power are in continuous push-and-pull motion, perfectly balancing themselves to each other and the world. It is said by the Apostate that if the bodies fall out of balance, then the world itself would tilt and everything would fall off, though such is taken to be a metaphor – the true outcome is unknown”. This is the link to the page: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/The_All
In a vision induced in Omadd’s machine, the Zhaitan orb crashes into the Tyria orb 2 years after Zhaitan’s death. Does this imply that in killing an Elder Dragon we are actually disturbing the balance of nature/the universe/the 6 bodies of power and thereby causing a potential cataclysm? I’d love to know what other think.
