It’s weird to see people talking about who has numers or zergs or “roams” and who retreats or always stands and fights greater number or any of that crap.
Imo, wvwvw is about war, not proving something. No honor, no cage matches, just fun. & conquest in an open world.
How would you add content to wvw without decreasing the focus in & population in existing areas?
Only problem with the grub is that it sort of screws over blue on some servers. Obviously you can’t control some people, and if they want to kill a grub, they’re gonna do it. It doesn’t help that the grub is right outside keep. Red has the ghost oakheart, but it’s not right outside there keep where everyone who just WP’d can see the event, and I don’t even think green has any.
I’ve never seen that event, right after zoning in or otherwise actually. I guess my server doesn’t really get to doing it much.
I cannot wait til they lock servers down.
I sure can, because if that happens the tiers will settle permanently, meaning the same opponents forever or until guilds quitting the game is what changes the power balance.
You know what would be really sadistic? Going into your enemies’ BL JP, and right on the other side of the waterfall you HAVE to jump through (and landing takes at least half your hp), throwing down ballistas and camping that spot. I don’t think you can see enemies through the waterfall either, not 100%.
You’re stuck while your character gets back up for at least 2 seconds with half health or less already, 2-3 ballistas waiting for you? No chance. And how would you clear those ballistas as long as they’re manned?

why exactly would someone only pve anyways? i don’t even understand people that only pvp/wvw. why would you NOT want to experience 100% of the game? i guess the same reason why people drop $59.99 on call of duty every year and rush to only play a subpar online fps experience :/
Same reason some people buy a hamburger and ask them to hold the mayo or lettuce or w/e. You still pay the same price, but some things you just don’t want.
So i need to wait 3 months to get my better trinkets?
It’s not like someone else has them and you don’t. Enjoy your time on top.
They tell us when huge updates are coming and you spin it into a bad thing. If I said I was getting a raise in February, would you assume I don’t get a paycheck until then?
I’m sure some tweaks are in order, but I’ve been having no trouble using #1 when I see black borders (Not judging, just my experience)
I just experienced the most extreme example of this problem.
I was in the EB JP, going through steadily with no sign of enemies. Suddenly a thief is apparently behind me because I lost half my health and saw animation.
So I managed to survive that and get a little distance, while he kept heartstriking at me. A lot of maneuvering and close calls later, I have him downed just before he downed me. I let him teleport before going in for the stomp, and he vanishes.
I looked around for a while, waiting for him to reappear from stealth but he never did.S.
I’ve never had a problem with the thief style of killing, but alt f4ing because you can’t accept losing a fair 1v1 that you had the advantage in is extremely lame.
Fix zerker? I thought they already did that and the forums went crazy about it. What is it still doing?
The damage decrease that iZerker suffered was not intentional they intend to scale it back up.
Oh, I thought he meant they were still overperforming. Cool.
as far as traits go, i took your illusions does 15% extra damage instead of MW damage, and your illusions have fury instead of the armor while channeling.
Fury instead of armor I can see, I was never keen on either trait though, zerker being my only phantasm really and I wasn’t sure if I’d even try to recharge a mantra in combat. Illusions doing 15% more damage is mostly for phantasms I assume? Unless you want clone conditions to do more.
oh, and i also took the stability mantra instead of daze, mainly to get the guaranteed stomp on most classes.
Good point about the stability for stomping, I hadn’t thought of that. But generally with this build if I’m stomping it’s because it’s pretty safe already. If I’m still being targeted while I’m trying to finish someone I won’t be standing still. I try to finish them with damage and iWave off any wannabe revivers.
Meanwhile the daze mantra provides a lot of vulnerability thanks to the domination minor traits, and usually gets them to burn a dodge roll.
mantra of pain also did a surprising amount of damage if you’re full berserker gear, crits as hard as mindstab does.
i think what this comes down to is the heal mantra can’t really be used twice in a fight if your opponents aren’t braindead. so if you’re forced to heal early in the fight, then you most likely lose.
Yeah Mantra of Pain is pretty fantastic at piling on the damage with the right build. Mantra of Healing is sadly lack luster.
i tried a full mantra build in wvw, it works fine in large zergs, as most build works fine in zergs.
but in small skirmishes, its basically who gets off the first shot wins. i find that if i could catch someone before they can react to me, i down them within 2-3 seconds, and likewise if anyone (especially glass cannon thieves) jumps me first, i usually end up losing.
Hm, in pretty much any skirmish if I get pulled or otherwise singled out it goes bad really fast, but I accept that as the price of my new found damage. It shines the brightest against overconfident individuals and/or not being noticed and/or slamming them before they realize what’s going on.
I haven’t run into any true blue glass cannon thieves since I started this. I’m pretty certain you’re right, if they get the first move I’ll be toast in 1-2 seconds tops.
In small skirmishes I’ll usually down one of them asap to get the numbers in our favor & make them start trying to revive each other; unless we’re outnumbered to begin with (or it’s just me vs more than 1 enemy), then I’ll be going staff and falling back.
until they fix iberserker, i think your build is fine, but when they do, you’re going to miss out on alot of damage if you dont take those 2 traits.
Fix zerker? I thought they already did that and the forums went crazy about it. What is it still doing?

So I’m loving the sheer amount of devastation I wreak when I decide to kill someone. My weapon choices are straight forward: GS = Offense, Staff = Defense.
Build
http://www.guildhead.com/skill-calc#mcmz0c0zMoohRMoohRMxx9Mazaqoaqz
I run with mostly Soldier’s gear, with a Knight’s GS (with air sigil) and maybe Knight’s components here and there. Power: 2146 Precision: 1344 Toughness: 1630 Vitality: 1451
(In case the link fails, it’s 30 30 0 0 10, using 1 10 11 from domination, 6 10 11 from dueling, and 1 from illusions and fully mantras).
Notes
I’m not fond of my healing mantra, I mostly keep it to keep the all mantras thing going, and if I can find time to recharge it, it’s technically better than other healing options.
When I go for the kill, I’ll typically Mirror Blade + Mantra of Distraction + dodge to load on vulnerability, then Mantra of Pain + Izerker + Mind Wrack (after my zerker does his first whirl of course).
Surprisingly, I’m not as glass as I expected to be. I have to react faster and be more situationally cautious, but whenever kitten hits the fan I swap to staff and quickly get out of dodge.
Changes
So I’ve been debating between Mental Torment and Halting Strikes (Dom #1 and #2 traits), and I’m open to other ideas for tweaking the build. Please don’t link me to your totally different build, I’m just interested in ideas to improve this already running build.
Let’s discuss the NS/ET/SF jumping puzzle. How is it going in there?
This is where we come back to the reading issue. You said I was aggressive to your server, where? I do not see it, so either quote me so I can fix it as it wasn’t intended, or shut up.
Being aggressive to people that trash talk is different then being aggressive to their server as a whole. Same as I wouldn’t blame a server for a single exploiter.
Well what you quoted is refering to your posts towards toble, not others towards the nsp server. Unless you’re quoting that and not referring to it.
Also, the ‘you should read’ or ‘learn to read’ or whatever variation is instantly insulting to most people and known by most to be since it’s a basic skill. There are infinite polite ways of saying the same thing.
We’ve all lost track of any original point we may have had so there’s no point taking this side conversation any further. Back to the OP.
Engi’s have a knockdown that pulls the target to them, their second ability is an aoe knockback. Just pop stability of you’re alone and finish them off.
That knockback iirc takes 20 seconds to come up. In my experience, you’ve either rallied or dallied by then. Personally I think they should switch engineer #3 with #2, so it’s defensive and if you’re being ignored you can make it offensive.
1) speed of revive is far to fast, faster then the speed to stomp without quickness, which is just plain silly. Needs to be slowed down in WvW.
So do something about the reviver(s) first since you know this. Adapt and ruin the reviver first.
2) downed bar balance, major review required, with a focus on defense, not offense. Your downed, ie out of the fight. When my guildy asks us to not revive him cause he is doing insane damage, there is a problem.
Yeah, not sure what profession is doing that but I do hear it, and it shouldn’t be that way.
3) no rally off pve mobs in wvw, no rally off of necro pets (if that still works)
Eh kinda, I can see how that’s lame and how that’s the downed just looking for the lowest hp enemy to pull a rally off of, and that exists for both sides. If it worked off critters that would be ridiculous.
4) I think you should get one less ‘revive’ before your instant killed the next time you die, in WvW
I could see repeatedly getting downed lowering your downed hp and such, is that not already in place with the downed down arrow condition?
Heh, I’ve lost bags to the need to fallback too, but then there are times when outnumbered I get a kill and loot the bag before I get dropped. Or it’s a reason to push a little forward again and then run like hell.
It can be a little fun, but overall yeah, I think it’s inconvenient.
I actually think the downed state adds some dynamics to the battle. Downing an enemy sometimes attracts several others to him, perfect for dropping all AoE.
It prompts thinking, whether you’re in a position to push for the finisher or revive, better to stay back and pelt him, etc. Gives allies a reason to drop friendly skills on him to better the chance of getting a player back.
I do think not all downed states are created equal (in terms of defensive moves).
I could see tweaking downed hp, revive speed, or w/e, but remove it? Hell no. It’s a terrific feature. Reviving fully downed allies? I’m on the fence with that one.
In all WvW/FvF/RvR games, population balance is hinged on casuals, always has been. When you are losing, casuals are off doing whatever, when you are winning casuals are out in droves. Add in a new PvE event or an all <color X> map and the shift will move harder in those respective directions.
This is pretty much what happened, imo. The turnout just wasn’t high enough at the reset because of the PvE. Frankly, the notion that “Oh, well NSP has the same event, no excuse” wasn’t the excuse. The excuse is that our population, which is different from all the other server populations, decided to PvE rather than WvW. Congrats to NSP for getting a large turnout (truly) on the reset. However, because of the huge blowout on the weekend, the casual players aren’t going to even bother and its even harder to organize since (as I’ve been told) we’re the “unofficial” Latin server. That’s just how it is. You’ll find the WvW guilds doing what they can to keep bettering themselves, but when it comes to server competition, it’s just not going to be there for this week. It’s why Terror will be leaving for more competitive play; it gets boring flipping supply camps.
So Terror is leaving because of the way this week is, or because this may indicate a lack of dedicated interest in wvwvw and future event weeks will probably be similar?
Where is the quote that contradicts the nightcapping explanation?
It’s not supposed to be an end-all-be-all solution. Neither are many of the other downed defensive abilities.
Exactly. It’s something to use if you’re about to be stomped to buy more time to try to get a revive. It makes you a little less helpless but you’re still nearly dead.
I believe the discussions here would be more constructive and friendly, if we could receive better acknowledgement of the issues the patch introduced, along with a timeline of when we can expect fixes, and what form those fixes will take.
You got an acknowledgement a page ago. You want a timeline and what form? Seriously? You realize no profession has/will either of those regarding anything, ever?
Ability is pretty pointless seeing as how almost every class has 2 downed interrupt abilities you’re usually better off attacking them to death
It’s definitely not pointless, it’s just not always the best option. Learn the different interrupts and work around them.
It’s a way to guarantee you finish them regardless of how tough they are or any healing.
I couldn’t disagree more. If you want strictly equal player numbers, play spvp. Part of wvwvw is being dynamic and open.
Lol, I’ve been rezed then the guy who got me up rezed my clone. Maybe he wasn’t sure if he got me up yet or not shrug
I looked over the thread again and I do not see hard feelings towards NSP other then maybe one post.
My bad, I guess I just took your word for it:
Not sure why folks have their pants in a bunch.
I don’t understand the hard feelings in here towards NSP. Nothing new with the event came about in the hours around reset and everyone should be aware of the importance of the first few reset hours.
You say NSP doesn’t want good fights and that’s why they were in wvwvw at reset taking everything. I say the other worlds obviously didn’t want good fights if they didn’t show up for all the reset claiming (especially when, as I said, nothing new came out during that time and the rest of the weekend awaited for fractals).
(edited by Shinigami.5932)
Why’s that? I mostly just want a change of pace and I’ll go back to staff in a week or so.
You mean because of the phantasms change? You can’t post a tldr for me right now.
Hi, so I’ve been running staff condition for quite a while now and want a change. I want to hit hard with the GS, but my problem is I’ve never liked any of the traits in Domination. Could someone give me ideas & explanations for their choices to help put me on track? (Besides the obvious 20% off GS trait)
This was obviously never suppose to be possible in the first place. It wasn’t a feature, it was an overlooked loophole they closed. If you were supposed to be able to whisper enemies in wvwvw right clciking their name would have given you the ‘whisper’ option.
Actually one question, so it only works if someone is inside it, if your enemy is attacking with the dome between him and the target it won’t do anything?
I was eager to double check this, I just grabbed the inspiration trait that makes the bubble whenever you’re reviving allies. Pretty kitten awesome for wvw.
Why don’t you do the same so it’s 2 giant groups taking the space of 2 people firing at each other
If you need the treadmill of gear/gold/level/etc or at least the illusion of it, wvwvw isn’t the place. Montly patches with a new set of slightly better gear to “achieve” is not here.
You should read Ender’s Game.
Wait, why not roll behind them when they’re using Flurry… :/
I was wondering why no one mentioned this. Blurred frenzy is canceled by any movement and does nothing to prevent the tarhet from moving.
Killing players is fun sure, but that’s all that needs to be offered? I would hope in a PvP match filled with swords and siege that I would be able to kill someone.
I just had a great match also and my server did win the tier 1 fight. A lot of gold down the drain, a lot of long nights, and for what? To say we won guys, congratulations? To receive nothing in return but a self pat on the back? 2 week matches haven’t even started yet…
I can’t see myself continuing to do this for a full year. Not as a game I take seriously anyway. Especially not as my go to MMO for PvP.
So much hard work and I still feel like it’s launch day.
Hard work, long nights, achievement, gold down the drain, taking this seriously… I don’t mean this offensively, your describing what real life should be giving you imo. Some kind of payout after a match or w/e sure, but what you describe is far beyond that.
Hi, I’ve been playing builds with condition damage for offense for & evasion on d for so long I want a break. I want to dust off my warrior and charge into battle like a charr. So my question is:
Which can you feel the most epicly powerful with in wvw, hammer or greatsword? Details welcome.
in my opinion we should still have the downed state but when people are dead they have to respawn without possibility to be rezzed
Now THAT I agree with. The downed state is core to the game, but the ability to just sit there dead waiting for your team to finish overpowering and pick you back up in seconds isn’t fitting for the wvw concept. Taking minor losses is legit and anyone being overaggressive should have the long walk back. Instead there’s no consequences.
The term zerging is so ridiculously overused online. No one seems to remember, the other half of zerging is each unit being extremely weak. That is to a degree not possible in most mmorpgs unless the guy is watching tv.
Outnumbering an enemy has been powerful since forever. Start using force multipliers or fail to adapt.

I started out wanting nothing to do with elixirs. I dove into kits of all kinds, and tried to mix in gadgets/turrets. It was mostly a flavor thing, but I wanted nothing to do with alchemy for my character.
Then one day I decided kitten it I use too many kits and elixirs are starting to look a lot more useful as I get more experienced with GW2. Next thing I remember all builds I ever use have 30 alchemy and I do without at least my elixir S as 2 oh kitten buttons, and usually 4 elixirs and 1 kit.
Not long ago I gave full blown turrets a try, for the flavor of being super mechanical with a wrench kit and turrets and that didn’t last the day…
It is better for new users, but since I’ve become fully adept at facing opposite of my intended leap and could use that to go wherever I wanted immediately, it is more restrictive for me now.
It is a minor convenience that I can keep running and just pop it without missing a beat when I’m trying to escape, but it loses the potential for confusing enemy pllayers (not the condition, real confusion) because now it will always, predictably, make me the furthest from the enemy, every time. Before I could choose whichever direction I wanted to go then immediately blend in.

I agree Tpvp is not everything and those who do it, being competitive, can easily tunnel vision on it. I also agree moa for 10 seconds is probably too long. Few things I don’t understand/agree with:
People keep talking about a mesmer portal and it’s wonderous powers. iirc the mesmer portal requires you to be standing where you want the entrance, then run to where ever you want the exit to be to place it. Then once you have placed the exit, the portal lasts 10 seconds with about a 60 second cooldown. These claims of a mesmer being able to teleport back and forth between battle zones wreaking havoc everywhere sound overblown. Like, extremely exaggerated.
Frankly I tire of the Blizzard-esque “nerf” tendencies of developers, I know how to fix pvp, get rid of it, it is only going to drag GW2 down further due to its poor design to begin with. WvW and PvE are more than sufficient to keep player base longevity.
But heaven forbid they would rather drive players away than lose their e-sport
You blame developer’s for tending toward “blizzard style nerfs”? If anything it’s the players who have kept the spirit of nerf & buff alive by bringing the mentality with them to every other game. Adjustments in this game I haven’t seen anywhere near the extreme that blizzard use to do.
Get rid of pvp because loud posters hate certain aspects? Sounds like cutting off your hand to remove some freckles. Rather drive away players to keep esport? You realize removing esport would also drive away players? Your whole post comes across as very bitter and jaded from past experiences unrelated to gw2.

Standing still, visible, in the middle of a battle doing nothing else just facetanking damage should be removed from Thief… other classes don’t get anything this nice. It’s guarantteed to get you the stomp no matter what.
I didn’t think thieves offered much group support until I did Mad King and realized how many combo fields I was dropping (shortbow #4, smoke screen and shadow refuge).
Plus reviving mates is easier stealthed.
ps: I say until I did mad king because it was my first dungeon.
(edited by Shinigami.5932)
The key to beating those thieves is planting a gigantic fan and standing in front of it. A
Exposed Weakness (10%)
Dagger Training (5%) Pistol Mastery (5%)
First Strikes (10%)
Executioner (20%)is 45% additional damage, 25% additional damage if the target has above 50% health.
Wait what provides the 25% when they’re over 50%? And isn’t that only active when executioner isn’t and vise versa?
I wouldn’t mind them adding this for when you’re targetting someone perhaps (though that’s a long list of nuiance changing). But I would hate to lose being able to ground target it at any time by having no target selected. I can sometimes do a better job anticipating movement from afar and auto throw wouldn’t land in those cases. Plus I use it whenever someone goes stealth to keep the pressure on.
Ps: I rather like how underwater grenades have awesome damage potential but with the hidden weakness of no tracking.
