Am not on TC, but guest and will ultimately move. Had started a little RP’ing w/former guildmates most of which were on TC and have since moved on. Is there a website with guilds who still RP and want new members, despite the Megakitten?

This website is still very active from the looks of it, and has a subforum for guild recruitment: http://www.guildwars2roleplayers.com/home

Solution to Berserker Meta

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

SilasLews.6790

The only aspect of the zerker meta that really irritates me is seeing people say ‘this build isn’t worth anyone’s time, go cookie cutter zerker or else you’re actively sabotaging your fellow players’ in build threads on forums. It’s difficult to even discuss alternative builds without hearing that mantra at least once. But frankly you’re going to get something like this for any game. There will always be an optimal build, and there will always be min/max players.

But this mentality is easily avoided, as people have already pointed out. Yeah, you’re going to have a tough time getting a pug group for say, Arah path 4, but for most dungeons and other pve content, it’s a simple enough matter to look for casual ‘everyone welcome’ groups on LFG.

OP, I think your heart is in the right place, but what you’ve offered is not a solution. And you do have other options at the moment. But sabotaging the min/max build isn’t the answer.

Patch tomorrow; What is in it?

Isn’t the WvW weapons specialist supposed to be added in to the game tomorrow for those folks who have tokens to exchange? That’s got to be one of the additions in tomorrow’s patch.

Should I get a legendary for my engineer?

Thanks for all of the responses! My engi is particularly special to me and is the best put together of all of my characters, but his playstyle is not quite as enjoyable as some of the others (grenades, while powerful, are kind of boring to me). I think at this point I’ll continue working on the non-weapon-specific gifts and see if my guild will help me determine whether or not my thief’s build is viable for dungeon play. If I can dungeon with my thief, I’ll go with the Incinerator. If not, I’ll probably make the Predator first.

Thanks again everyone!

Should I get a legendary for my engineer?

I’ve known for the better part of a year that I want a legendary. The problem is that I really can’t decide which one. It’s such a huge time and gold investment that I don’t want to regret my decision later on.

Normally this would be a pretty straight-forward decision. I have a dedicated main with 100% world completion and a solid build that I’m comfortable bringing into dungeons and fractals. The problem is that my main is an engineer. And like most engineers, I have a kit equipped 90% of the time. So I’d…almost never see the legendary. Which really makes me wonder if it’d be worth it to get the Predator when none of my other characters use a rifle.

My other thought was to go for the Incinerator for my thief, and I have a couple of other characters that use daggers as well (ele and necro). But my thief has a really…unconventional build that, while being tons of fun, isn’t really ideal for dungeons etc.

What I’m hoping for by posting here is to hear from others who have encountered similar situations. I understand that it’s entirely up to me and my own preferences in the end, but I’m hoping to get some feedback and hear other peoples experiences. Has anyone gotten a legendary for their engi and regretted it? Or not regretted it?

Inherently "Human" Professions

@SilasLews: Pretty much as Dustfinger says. They’re accepted, but people are uncomfortable around them, especially in areas and times where undead present a threat. From Dougal’s explanation in GoA, it basically boils down to humans having an intellectual awareness that necromancy is just a branch of magic no more inherently good or evil than others – but from an emotional perspective, that doesn’t stop them being wigged out by it (particularly if they’ve had an encounter with hostile undead such as Risen) or wondering about the types of personalities that choose to learn death magic rather than less morbid forms of magic like mesmerism or elementalism.

EDIT: And what you were told on the roleplaying forum is, to put it bluntly, wrong. The first known human necromancer was, indeed, a disciple of Grenth, but we have no knowledge of what status it might have had beforehand except that Dhuum did not tolerate undead at all. Most likely, humans just didn’t realise that mesmerism and necromancy were branches of magic that were available to mortals at all until Grenth and Lyssa took their disciples around 50BE.

Thank you for the detailed reply! Being as new as I am to the lore (I haven’t even finished playing through GW1 yet), responses like yours and Dustfinger’s are always helpful. Your explanations make a lot of sense. Thanks again!

So I’ve started trying to get involved in RP recently (worst timing ever on my part), and just to interject some positivity, I guested to Tarnished Coast and found some RP at the champ boar in Queensdale. And then again, when I went to the Grove. I just sort of camped there and read for a while, delighted at having found open RP with no evidence of griefing or trolling. So that’s encouraged me more, and I’m going to try to catch some of the events listed at http://www.guildwars2roleplayers.com/

None of what I’ve just said changes the fact that the community really, really needs the ability to choose what map shard we’re on, and a ‘Roleplaying’ tag that would take priority when sorting players into maps. But the community doesn’t seem to be destroyed just yet.

Lorewise, necromancers are in fact distrusted among most humans (there’s an explanation of this in Ghosts of Ascalon). They’re not explicitly discriminated against, but they do make humans uncomfortable and other races favour and accept necromancers more than humans do.

I’m new to the in-depth lore of Tyria, so I’m really just trying to understand. It was explained to me on the GW2 roleplaying forums that Grenth made necromancy an accepted profession when he overthrew Dhuum and ascended to godhood. So is it that they’re accepted and OK, but even after all this time, humans just aren’t comfortable with them?

I’m still running GW on my 3.5 year old laptop, and I cannot wait until I’ve saved up enough to get a good gaming desktop. Every time I’m over at my gf’s house, I wind up just watching her play and making ‘ohhhhh’ noises about the graphics. So pretty!

Oh man oh man oh man, I made an undignified noise at work when I read this announcement! My favourite Living Story content coming back, both of them at the same time! SO HAPPY! Just now getting into RP, too, so looking forward to dragging my terrified-of-heights character into the Zephyr Sanctum. And I never did get a chance last time to try out the Gauntlet…good thing I saved all of my tickets!

8/10 for both names, because I like the lore behind the names. When I see ‘Styx’, though, I automatically think greek mythology, so there’s some loss of immersion inherent in the name…though that’s probably just me. Still, good names!

I don’t pick my character names to fit their professions specifically, like it seems many people in previous posts do (nothing wrong with that, mind!) My characters are mostly versions of existing characters I’ve written in stories or RP campaigns.

I have Silas Lews, human noble in the Priory, kind of a whimsical inventor sort (he’s my engineer). Anne Fry, a dedicated tactician in the Vigil and very much more the soldier archetype (she’s my ranger). My third human is Delgado Katsulas, a field agent for the Whispers with Grenth as his patron deity (my necromancer, descended from my Ascalonian necromancer in GW1).

I miss TC, and it wasn’t even my home server. I think what frustrates me the most is the fact that all Anet needs to do is implement one simple change: add a priority ‘roleplaying’ tag (and the ability to select maps would be nice as well, though that might be trickier in terms of coding). That one change would make the RP community alive and healthy again with very little effort on Anet’s part.

Just one small change. And yet, because Anet is busy with other things, the community is instead falling apart. And that’s really, really upsetting.

“You”, “NOT FOR YOU”
Its not just about me its about the 40%* of which some also posted a similiar post which you have read.

  • the 40% is a random number.. I have no clue what the playerbase is like.

And you, like all of the rest of those people, simply need to put the time and effort into it. The event is doable. It’s nowhere near impossible. That percentage of people are the ones who need to step up to the event’s difficulty if they truly care about completing it. It’s not the event that needs changing—it’s the people. Put a little time and research in, and you’ll be able to complete the event as well. But if you refuse to even try doing so, there’s nothing anyone can or should do to help you.

I seem to see a new thread like this every few days. The complaints are always the same, and the responses are always the same as well.

Tequatl is supposed to be a challenge. If you cannot be bothered to put in the extra time (and seriously it would only take you about an hour IF that long to read up on strategy and learn the event), then this event is simply not for you. There are other world bosses more suited to your playstyle.

I used to beat Teq all the time, and for your information, I am NOT part of a huge guild or a huge server. Before megaserver I would guest to Jade Quarry. That’s what guesting is for. Since megaserver, there are other options, like joining a TTS map. And if you don’t have the time or the patience to even find out what TTS is, then this event is NOT FOR YOU.

Tequatl is challenging, yes. That is what makes it so rewarding and enjoyable. It is by no means ‘impossible’. It requires a certain amount of effort and time, and if you aren’t willing or able to put that time and effort into the event, then that’s on you, not the event.

So if you truly care enough, you’ll put the effort in. There are tons of good guides out there and plenty of people willing to help you out, if only you take the initiative.

Hopeless Tequatl kill attempts

I also strongly disagree with the OP. I will never forget the first time I participated in a successful Teq kill. It required coordination and teamwork, and while the tactics seemed elaborate to me at the time, that’s what made it so rewarding. It wouldn’t have been anywhere near as fun if it hadn’t been so difficult or required so much organization and thought. It really did feel like an accomplishment, and I felt like part of a community. I hadn’t had that much fun with an event in a long time.

OP, you’d be much, much better off by looking up strategies used (Dulfy has some guides). Join one of the TTS guilds (not mandatory by any means, I’m not a member either, but it does make finding a successful map easier). Come prepared to the event and above all, LISTEN to the commanders.

I would love this so, so much. Particularly now that trait refunds are both free and doable any time outside of combat, there’s no reason not to have this convenient feature. At the very least, I’d use this to save a pve build and a wvw build immediately.

Reminder: Personal Story is horrible

SilasLews.6790

I still enjoy the Living Story, but the earlier parts are undoubtedly the most enjoyable for me. It’s not brilliant, but it doesn’t suck by any means. I think it should have revolved more around the player character being the actual hero (like many people, I felt overshadowed by Trahearne—I expected to be the hero, not the sidekick).

What I hope happens is for more personal story to be added eventually (like once a new area opens up with one of the other dragons), and for Trahearne to die in a blaze of glory, thereby allowing the player character to take up his mantle and lead the charge against the remaining dragons. I’ve absolutely no reason to believe that this will actually happen. It’s just a nice thought.

But I still like the Personal Story. I guess I’m just easy to please, and that works out pretty well in my favor.

This is truly disheartening. Before the patch announcement, I’d been seriously considering transferring to Tarnished Coast for the RP environment. I haven’t actually gotten much into GW RP yet (nervous and afraid of heckling), but I’d kept hearing how the atmosphere on the RP servers is so much better, and I wanted to be with other people who appreciate the world and the history.

But now it seems like there’s no safe haven for RPers. I don’t want to join an RP guild because I love my current guild and the people in it. I don’t know enough roleplayers to be placed on a map with RP-oriented folks.

I agree with the idea of an RP tag—something that I can turn on when looking for roleplayers (and that would take precidence over other criteria when matching maps) and turn off when I want to do guild events and world events. Something RELIABLE. All of the solutions offered thus far by ArenaNet are hit-and-miss. And that simply does not work for a dedicated RP community.
