WVW is really the only way you can take your entire guild into battle. The only mode where your performance is a direct function of your character’s build, and the team dynamic between your parties and player’s willingness to work together.
It’s really annoying anet, and the pve playerbase don’t give a crap about it =[
I always encourage people who have never tried pvp, and are having problems with the game (character dying, build not matching playstyle) to enter wvw and see how their character stacks up. even the most mediocre build in wvw is enough to nearly endgame trash most if not all pve challenges out there (barring fractals, which require agony resist)
Without wvw, gw2 loses a lot of its replayability to me. =[
Just to re-iterate my ‘feedback’
1) Never again with these foolish events.
2) give attention to already implemented features in wvw, and sort them out first.
3) bugs/glitches – find them and destroy them.
4)asking people on this forum will result in glorious and succinct responses for changes, but you’ll have to mute the trolls ofc.
5) if you desperately wish to pander to people (reasonable business objective, tbh) who find wvw ‘boring’ and perhaps: ‘too hard wah wah wah lets furry rp instead’ then simply create a different area for their playpen, give them a bottle and put them to bed.
please save my beloved and lofty wvwvw, because its in danger of becoming extinct.
Thx.
I can only assume those who are really mad about the golem exploit have not been around since release, or they would be aware that pretty much every single bug that was exploitable in WvW never resulted in bans. When the Mesmer fall trait bug came about and zergs were being wiped by Mesmers there weren’t calls for bans. How’s this one different?
I am surprised that ANet never commented on it nor fixed it though. I have to assume it was never fixed because it’s simply too difficult of a fix to make within a short period of time and they made the call to just run the week out rather than cancel it.
lol, you assume wrong. it’s simply the latest and worst mistake they’ve made to a game mode which is already requiring attention.
I honestly don’t know what to do now.
lol, yb.
I see why you feel the need to post this. It’s a rare occurrence for you…LOL
No more greasy events, such a bad idea.
Well, they created this EVENT with this problem, which causes people to be able to use an exploit, and therefore it follows that if they ban people, they’re doing two wrongs.
Rather than reverting/retracting the dumb, poorly executed event, and also removing the bug, they’re allowing it to remain.
How about all PVE areas go instantly hostile.
but seriously. pve trash events can stay in pve.
Making me think twice about buying the expansion.
Why did WVW become the toilet for ANET’s ridiculous ideas? Seems like they’re out of touch with the playerbase.
And I have no idea why the orb capturing was removed. that was really really fun.
This is great! Anet should do some more events like this all throughout the game to liven things up.
You’re as out of touch as the dev who pushed this event through =\
No kidding, this event just makes the whole thing go down the mystic toilet.
FULL RESPECT and agree with this post of glory.
I have also been unhappy with how difficult it is to defend the walls of a fortified structure in wvw, and effectively, giving the advantage to the attacker in most cases. Fully agree with the uselessness of the oil, and near-uselessness of the cannons vs large groups.
Unable to cast spells off the walls unless you jump up to the edge, unable to use your bow/rifle/staff effectively as well, despite the fact you have the height advantage. lol.
mortar placement is also not good..
And then this poorly thought out, badly executed dumb choice of an event. Sure, it starts up the hype-train for new players, but do they really need this kind of incentive? Why not keep the kitten events to PVE? =[
I’d say WVW has created the tightest knit communities on gw2, and anet just trashes that. They’re like LOLNOPE. So disappointed. wvw is really one of the major reasons i still play gw2.
They should leave trash events for pve =(
Seriously, such a dumb idea.
I think if you guys do more ‘events’ in wvw, you’re going to kill the game. It’s the ultimate expression of a server’s ability to mash up other players. Right now all that’s happening is a giant omega zergball
i get that you want to spice things up, but this is too much, and its making the regular competitors, the people who go to wvw all the time a bit irate.
This event will attract a bunch of casuals which is fine. But they don’t carry the team through the week, and probably don’t have well adjusted builds to fight other players.
Speaking of which, events like these make nearly all the hard work you do building your character go to waste. =\
my suggestion is keep this junk to only one map, and keep the regular wvw maps free of this mutator type stuff.
It’s a unique idea, but I think it’s pretty badly executed. very glad its just for a week.
Yeah it’s ‘just a game’ but I take wvw fairly seriously because its really fun for me. taking a small group in and annihilating a group double your numbers never gets old. Everyone has an area of this game that they like, and this event really kittens on people like myself. why don’t you guys do this junk in pve?

Borken is what it is…not even up to broken.
rofl. you think a lot of things are broken, and it’s just you dying in wvw.
This is starting to get out of hand, atm roaming is a joke you can’t even do a good 1v1 because 90% of the roamers are thiefs and when they get low hp =stealth and run away.
This is not a complain thread about thiefs being OP or some kitten this is mostly about the stealth, this thing has to be reworked, there has to be some kind of nerfs on the stealth, either the duration should be reduced or you cannot go stealth again if you did in the last 5-8 sec.
know your enemy. Best to pick up the thief class and figure out how the little kittens stealth, then work around it (i did this).
You’ll have to figure out what you want to do. Support a zerg? that’s a build. Roaming? that’s another build entirely. and Anti-Thief or Anti-Stealth? that’s yet another build.
I have a build for general roaming, and builds for killing thieves or mesmers with AOE or clever skills/runes that trigger instantly.
It’s not overpowered – you’re just facing very skilled opponents. Just remember to keep the aoe’s and dmg on them and they’re toast. But you have to figure out how they can move around so quickly.
a last resort is a stealth removal trap – hilarious but only works once or twice before they catch on.
Nice lying there Tommy. Clearly FA and Mag have comparable numbers to BG………..
I don’t honestly care if you believe me or not TBH. But I do know that 5 people in a tower with well placed siege and disrupters can hold off a map blob without breaking a sweat; I know as I did it once last week. FA doesn’t lack the numbers as was seen on reset they just lack the conviction to defend, however mag needs to drop a tier IMO.
5 people can’t defend against a 50 man TC zerg blob.
On reset you outnumbered FA substantially. we had one zerg per map. you had two or three.
FA zerg = 25-40 ppl avg around 28 by ts and visual counts.
TC zerg = 50-75 ppl.
You guys just PVD. you didn’t even need to place seige and you’d take down gates.
Your ‘advice’ is so skewed and ignorant. from ALL of your posts. All TC is doing is just zergballing. Some players there are actually decent, the rest just glob up and press 1 and 2. maybe 3.
there’s lots of situations where 8-15 of us will take on 20-30 and just smear them. Till someone who got smeared cries and calls your giant zerg and steamroll anyone dumb enough not to wp when the map starts lagging.
TC just seems to be made up of people who joined because they wanted to win, not because they were good.
which is cute because you’re busy talking about having to give up loot in your other post. Clearly something that you guys don’t do.
So yeah.. don’t talk about ‘competition’ and pretend you’re aspiring to something greater than a scrub 50person persian zergball that can get wiped by 20 spartans. ty.
yeah zergs just eat minions in wvw, rendering most minion skills useless, unless they do damage on death, example being mesmer clones.
heavily armored ranger pet can absorb damage for a while, but putting points so deep into pets doesn’t leave much for the ranger to survive with.
Appreciate all the great replies Gokil. Few questions still though
1. Is S/D just as viable as d/d for WvW roaming/havoc etc?
2. I heard D/D is very hard to play as on ele, but when done well and practiced right, can be near godly, in which case, is it worth the time and work?
3. If running d/d what kind of setup should I be running?
for your d/d concerns:
any ele who has reasonable skill level as a player, and doesn’t waste every cooldown they have and is a bit frugal with what skill to use and when, you’ll never kill them.
they mistform out of the battle, ride the lightning, and they’re long gone.
So you can zone guys out as desired. Another option is you can just ride the lightning out of the scrap, heal off, and make your way back in.
but like the other guy stated, if its 3-4 vs 1 you should be ready to make lots of miles in wvw. its a valuable ability.
if your tactics include a steady group with a couple guardians and a hammer war, then maybe you don’t need the speed.
it’s noteworthy to mention for whatever reason, people are using glass ranger cheeseball builds (hilarious and ineffective unless they’re on a wall). the ability to put distance between you is probably a good idea for the short term..
Personally I have mixed feelings about it.
To expand, many people like to worldboss hop, so I joined the giant zergball that was bossing.
Wow. You barely get a hit in on the boss, and it’s dead.
This is good, and bad.
*It gets you the rewards quickly – you farm those bags like no tomorrow.
*Good for those really difficult bosses like tequila. (tech – quat – til? ter cha toil? tech-weasel? whatever. that really lame one. i hate that one.)
*Bad in that if you’re not literally on top of the boss, or champ, you aren’t going to get credit for the kill.
Oh sure, you can use a ranged guy, but if your shots miss, in that giant mess of graphics and explosions, you can barely see the numbers above the boss – the screen gets really busy. I don’t care how good you are at playing – its confusing.
Much less even able to realize you’ve got any loot in the area because 2-3 hundred pairs of feet and bodies are blocking your view. (anyone else running in circles and spamming f?)
Not to mention that just because you can see a lot of the people around you, doesn’t mean there’s not another 300 that aren’t showing up on your screen – there’s performance issues with it as well.
I feel as though the boss fights were more fun despite having to struggle a little bit. Now it’s just hit 1… look for a stack of fields, blast. wait for next field stack, blast at the ready. (Was on my warrior while this was going on.)
Sure, everyone gets like 26 stacks of might, and completely healed to full, and the boss melts.. but where’d the fun go?
To me, its like PvE is now WvW, except without the fun of stomping some other server’s weak zerg-blob that’s bad at zerging, with less frequent and often less valuable looting chances. (if you’re not in an 80 zone) I’m not really happy about that.. PvE was more fun with less people. Im kind of unhappy saying that too.
(I like the new population, but.. theres a few drawbacks.)
I went to PvE as a little break from WvW from time to time, slow the pace down a bit, and enjoy the game’s fun bosses. Now we have a giant zerg hitting every boss. I’m not so sure how I enjoy that. Feels boring.
I’ll be taking breaks from WvW by logging off from here on out, its kind of the only thing I really like about gw2 anymore =/
I’d like to get a sense of the ideas people have on MegaServer and its effects on PvE in general.
I feel like so many players measure AP as a skill base. While yes it can determine how long someone has played for, it doesn’t measure how skilled you are. And while yes there is nothing in game to measure skill at first sight, capping LFG groups at “LFG Zerk Only 7,000+ AP Ping Gear or kick!” Is annoying at the least.
Last night In fractals I had a 21.000 ap guy repeatedly die at various parts more so than everyone else around 3-5k.
However I do agree if someone’s joining my group at high level fractals and has 500 ap I’m gonna kick them. I feel it should be loosely based on something like that to avoid wasting time.
You’re a giant hypocrite. My mind = blown.
Zintair, your build looks pretty awesome and shows a lot of wvw promise, I’ll check it out for sure.
I’ll probably end up using some variant of it, but it’s nice to have some idea where to start with a necro =]
a build that can soak some of the random and often overwhelming damage directed at you in a wvw setting is pretty valuable, and I agree that putting the focus into flat damage rather than conditions is a better idea.

this is a good thread.
1) Rangers are Hardmode. Can’t deal? Change classes, and spare us the QQ please..
-they’re pretty involved, and you need to spend time thinking about your playstyle and adapting your build and armor appropriately. Yes lag adversely affects the lifespan of this character. If you’re prone to lag-fits, building a pvp or wvw ranger will just serve to frustrate you…
2) In team fights on wvw.. don’t let a low hp pet stray near a downed enemy
-They kill it and stand up again. This is a rookie move. If your pet is squishy, keep it on defense so you can at least use its f2 skill. A good traited and well-chosen pet can deal more damage than you can, even with partial exotics equipped. and contributes to a high overall-dps. Wondering where your pet is, then looking over and seeing that he’s done a solo-takedown of an opponent is hilarity incarnate. Don’t underestimate it…
3) Dodge duck dip dive and dodge.
-If you die, and your dodges are off cooldown and your endurance bar is half or full, you’re doing it wrong. Rangers have an healthy amount of dodge-based abilities, and [Lightning Evade] is a beautiful stun-breaker. All you need is a little timing, and you can really extend your lifespan. learn to chain your dodges properly when you’re in a bind.
4) equipment and build: damage only
-if you’re tempted to go glass cannon stats only, I won’t stop you. But you’re generally going to be dead 90% of the time before you can deal any damage, either in pvp, or pve. Getting kicked from parties? They may be tired of ressing you all the time…
5) about to die..
-When nearing the downed state, (because you’ve been diligently watching your hitpoints..=p) try to find a level surface. The 3 skill when downed causes your pet to revive to full health if dead, find you, and revive you at an accelerated pace. Generally if you’re not on a flat surface, the pet will not be able to find you and revive despite the fact it’s standing directly over top of you..Try to work around this by dodge-rolling or heading towards a flat location.
-If submerged, the pet can usually find you quite easily, luckily enough..and it may be a better idea to remain beneath the surface, rather than swim to the top, like the game suggests…because the pet disappears when you break the surface…bye bye fast res…

Psh. a ranger should be way better at hiding and movement than some city-slickin pickpocket.
Only a WvW player would send 10s and some superior seige blueprints to the new player who can’t afford to repair his/her armor.
Only a WvW player runs in a tight formation.
Only a WvW player knows what the karma train is.
Only a WvW player knows about fight club.
Only a WvW player would look at a group of 10+ enemies, and say ‘guys i got this’ and charge in with their group of 5 following close behind.
Only a WvW player knows how to portal bomb.
Only a WvW player will walk for hours with a friendly dolyak, with no reward except satisfaction.
Only a WvW player will charge into a half captured camp, just to delay the enemy for a few more seconds.
I’m not sure where this would be correctly posted but I was told here, so here’s my question, why give us mystic fountains when we can’t pick up a torch with it on? ~ 3 people in my party doing jump puzzle, 10 invaders, all camping at the start of it. I finally did the puzzle in the dark, (after dying 2 times because of people camping) and the stealth runs off as I’m in the round room, make it up to the top, on my way to the next fountain and guess what, invaders camping the door way with aoe so I can’t leave the room so I died. I’m not a “bad” player, but strength in numbers, why make fighting in the jump puzzle? there are GUILDS that camp the puzzle so only those invaders can get it, and that’s not fair. you can’t expect 20 people from a single guild to go do a puzzle just so one member can get the chest. ~Why do I want the chest? because I need badges of honor and I don’t really like doing WvW/killing people, I’m a PvE person, not PvP, why not make it fair for us PvE’ers to get jumping puzzles?
Not to be rude, but I hope this encourages jumping puzzle people not to waste the few valuable player slots on a nigh-useless jumping puzzle while the rest of your world is duking it out above ground in true battle, contributing to the far more valuable wvw-induced bonuses which are server-wide and last the entire week.
I think getting killed at the entrance to the jp is your first clue that your world does not have nearly enough map control, and perhaps contributing to the war effort is more valuable than being farmed in a jumping puzzle.
I also think having the map clogged with people who have no intent to pvp is detrimental and damaging to a server’s ability to strike effectively in wvw.
While many assume ‘oh five people in the jp doesn’t make a difference..’ You couldn’t be more wrong. Five people can really do more than you think in wvw.
if the devs decide to keep the jumping puzzles in wvw, under no circumstances should they be made a non-pvp zone. And I think the badges should stay in the chest. This gives a chance for the real fighters on the server to still farm some badges during periods of complete map control.
Unless…of course… the jumping puzzle was made a capturable objective with a point reward…that would change my mind very quickly =]
And it perhaps would be the ideal compromising solution between the wvw pro-jp people and the wvw jp-haters like myself, while forcing the pro-jp people to defend said objective or lose their precious jp.
