Asking for a “taxi” or a “ferry” implies a party that can get you into main, whether it’s with the “Join in…” button or via zoning repeatedly. I haven’t heard of a separate term for each of these 2 methods, but if I’m wrong please correct me.

Unless ANet changed it, you can easily ferry into BG main even if you’re not from BG by being in a party thats in main and walking in and out of Bloodtide Coast. Like, find a party that wants to ferry you in the BG TS (which is blackgatets.com) guest into Blackgate, go into Bloodtide and just start leaving to Sparkfly via the portal over and over again. Usually at 1:20 hrs before the hour that the event is supposed to start the map is softcapped and you should be able to get in on the first try. We have SEVERAL commanders that are guesting (including WoodenPotatoes omg) that get in like this. Stop being close minded fools and investigate some before accusing people of “spreading false ideas”. I used to do this for Teq even.

I’m doing a Tribulation Mode run all the way from W1Z1 (halfway through Z2 atm) and every now and then, right as I respawn, my character respawns facing the camera, and if I press the Run Forward key he runs to the camera. I ran around a bit more and it seems the camera gets rotated a 180 degree angle. and sets that as the default or something. I usually die once and it goes away, but just now I had to burn like 4 lives for it to get fixed. Any sort of TM jumps are a no-go with this glitch, so it pretty much means one less life for you. It’s not so bad for me because I bought one of the Infinite Continue Coins, but I can imagine it screwing over people without those. So far nobody else has confirmed getting this bug too, so I’m hoping someone here will?

This was likely done because of the excessive zerging in Queensdale. You could gain levels fairly quickly.

Uh.. no. DR has been in the game for a long time, and it is supposed to combat against bots, but as per usual, it hurts actual players a lot more.

DR never affected dynamic event karma and exp before so no it never existed except for drops. If it existed before then people would not have been farming the boss events in Queensdale to level toons.

It was implemented in October of last year to combat the Plinx farmers. The threshold was set that you only really hit it when zerging events in Orr. This is the first time since they nerfed those events that you can hit enough events to hit it again.

I hit it several times when leveling my Necro in the Zephyr Sanctum with the interactable artifacts that spawned Vets/Champs. I’d just run them through in order all the way to the Imp and then jump back to start Ooze again. Had no downtime solo or with under 5 people, and after like one lap I could already feel some DR. By the third lap I was getting like 3% of my exp bar. He’d be 80 already if not for that dumb thing

Also my Mesmer’s my other hot human level 80. Sadly there’s not much choice for skimpy good-looking light armor

My main is a Sylvari ele so I just opted for something cooler and more royal for him, instead of going sex plant god lol

When Southsun shove was just released, there were huge zergs all over the place, killing all the Veteran Karkas and everything else that moved. Well, Veteran Karkas have this move that many people call the barrel roll, and it would instantly down 80% of the zerg. Hilarity ensued each time.

Also in the Halloween event’s dungeon there were these scarcrows that behaved like structures, summoning a bunch of ravens every now and then to attack a random player within their radius, and when you destroyed them they feared everyone within range. Well my party’d just killed the Mad King, and we were jumping off one of the last cliffs where there still are scarecrows. I was innocently destroying one right by the cliff and it died right as one of my mates was running past me, fearing him into the abyss. We were all laughing so hard.

If I remember any others I’ll come to post. God this game is fun rofl

Even the dragons are lagging lol. Yesterday I did kitten and he didn’t do anything the entire fight except the breath attack and flying up once. I found it hilarious. Also SB only screamed and made portals only once, and didn’t even go untargettable after.

Okay, the only reason I can imagine that happens is because of the better drop rates. And do you really want them to go back to 4 blues and 1 green every chest? A possible solution is to get into the area as early as you can in the event’s window, or maybe even before it. So far I’ve done quite a few different events and never gone into an overflow.

EDIT: err can you loot the same event chest more than one time on the same character if you change servers?

Can someone explain to me what he’s complaining about? If anything, big events should have less people in them now because everyone who already did them won’t come back, whereas whoever does them was going to do them regardless of the one-chest-a-day change.

And my FPS went to negative numbers in every single big event even before the patch anyways. If anything, the change helps alleviate that. Just wait to do them as late as you can, or during non-peak hours. With the change, there should be a significant decrease to the amount of people doing the event at those times.

When I started playing the game, I went with an elementalist, and eventually I realized the default key bindings were most defenitely not going to cut it. So I started thinking and playing around with the keys and ended up with this:

ESDF = Forward/back/strafing
R= Healing skill
A= Utility #1
W= Utility #2
Q= Utility #3
ZXCV= Fire, Water, Wind and Earth attunements respectively
I moved all the weapon skills one number to the right, since I basically moved my WASD to the right as well. So my weapon skill #1 is assigned to 2, weap skill #2 is assigned to 3, and so on.
Shift= Elite
Double tap to dodge
Autorun= 1
G = pick up/interact
Look behind = Middle mouse button
About face = Uhhh either F1 or ` (right to the left of the 1 key), not sure

I wanna get a gaming mouse with at least 3 programmable buttons so I can take dodge out of double tap and put it in one of those, along with the elite skill and look behind.

And everything else remains the same

Really nice job with the math, and the whole analysis overall. I do have to agree with the points PraetorMortis made, especially with the boons part. Certain classes have it easier to achieve the might cap than others. My main is a D/D Ele, with full boon duration stuff and a Sigil of Battle, and even while playing solo I hover around a permanent 18-20 stacks of might, often peaking at 25 for certain periods of time. In dungeon groups, I easily stack 12 AoE stacks of might to whatever melee characters are with me on my first rotation, and a few less on the next ones. With that, you just need a staff Guardian to Empower or a Mesmer with Signet of Inspiration so most of your party reaches near-max Might stacks.

Just wanted to chime in to say that, but overall I really like this thread and the kind of discussion it brings

I’ve done Priory and Order of Whispers, and oh my god I loved Tybalt. His dialogue was so hilarious, and his story was so touching :‘( What’s worse is that after the Claw Island chapter, I was casually strolling through Bloodtide Coast, exactly along the southern shore of the short river/swamp-ish body of water directly west of the Whisperwill Waypoint, a random big risen vet spawns from nowhere and starts to say they have Tybalt and that they’ve done horrible stuff to him and that I’m about to join him and all that jabber risen tend to say. Then an event starts with a headline that went somewhere along the lines of “Avenge Tybalt Leftpaw by Killing the Veteran Risen [something]”. I was so kitten and sad I beat the living kitten out of that kitten creature as slowly and painfully as I could.

Tybalt I miss you ;_;

Needless to say I’m all up for the “Kill Trahearne and bring back Tybalt/Sieran/Forgal” movement. ANET PLS

In to report latest patch made PvE mob culling terrible. I can’t see most of the mobs while farming pent/shelt, making my income far lower because I have no idea where to throw my lava fonts :’(

I’m having this same issue. Was playing last night before the latest patch perfectly fine, at over 50 FPS in Wayfarer Foothils. Downloaded the patch before going to sleep, started playing today and my FPS was at 12-15. Did some stuff recomended somewhere in the forums and got it back up to like 30ish FPS.

I’m using an Alienware M17x, with an AMD Radeon HD6870M. Tried deleting local.dat, didn’t do anything. Updated drivers, didn’t work either.

I need some class help.

What are you doing with your guardian? I’m leveling one as an alt as well, and so far, it’s fantastic. With the traits that give you might on Virtue of Justice, and the trait that resets its cooldown everytime you kill a foe, plus the trait that makes it also be an AoE blind, plus the Greatsword AoE Blind leap, plus the perma aegis and other damage mitigation stuff guardian has, I happen to have some really awesome survivability, and really nice damage, especially when vs several monsters at once. I’m only using NPC armor and weapons, plus whatever monsters drop for me. Maybe you’re fighting monsters whose levels are too high compared to yours?

I’m really having a blast with the class, and coming from playing a D/D Ele for most of the time, the amount of passive and active heals and damage mitigation the class has makes it be tons of fun for me. Also Guardian particles are omg so kitten X_X

I don’t like the new models. They look too big to have been human at some point in time. Or maybe it’s just me not being used to the size, meh. As a D/D Ele I never had any trouble traversing Orr, and like the Necro guy said before me, I just ignored every risen, cleansing status when needed.

Not 100% sure it’s a bug but doesn’t look intended to me: using Tome of Wrath elite, if you cast 4 (the one that gives you haste/quickness/whatever) and immediately cast skill 5, the latter will finish channeling as soon as the haste boon runs out and cast the spell, removing over half the channeling time. Haven’t checked if the damage is lower but it sure as hell has the same effect on surrounding mobs.

If you’re not using those to farm that node then I feel sorry for you.

Also OP wasn’t who suggested the “make alt, farm node, delete alt” method, OP simply asked if farming the node with his level 2 was bannable, to which I suggest, if it’s something that you’re considering might get you banned, then why risk it? If ANet’s doling out bans the way we think they are, then there’s not much we can do, except do stuff the obviously legal way. My hope is they’re either actually taking bans very seriously and we’re all just overreacting due to lack of exact information or erroneus information some of us have made up, or that they’ll learn from their ways and take stuff more calmly, IF our concerns are legitimate.

My usual rules with drops are as follows:
- Salvage: Whites
-Vendor: Blues
-Throw into MF: Greens, I do realize just vendoring them or even checking the TP and selling them there may be safer and more profitful but the chance of getting a random rare is very tempting to me, and I also like a lot more the feeling of income in bigger numbers (instead of selling 20 greens for 1-2s each) and I cba to go check the TP for every single green I get on dungeon runs/ shelt and pen farming/etc.
-With Rares: I always check their TP price first, if my net earnings would be under 28-30s (which is what 1 ecto is worth atm) I salvage it, otherwise I sell it.
- With Exotics, usually TP since I’ve yet to find an Exotic thats under 30s lol.

Isn’t she broken? I get a “This content is currently unavailable. Please check again later.” (or along the lines of that) message whenever I try to talk to her. I need my 250 use Salvage kits ;_;

EDIT: the 4 greens you throw into the MF don’t have to be of the same type to get a Rare. I’m not sure how it decides what you get if you throw in 4 different greens, but I’ve gotten Rares from combinations like this. I assume it chooses one of the types you use. Need confirmation?

My experience with Fire Grab is that if the target’s not in front of you when you start casting it, it won’t hit even if you move.

The people I run with in WvW would disagree with you OP. The boons I provide are huge and increase my guard friends DPS a lot.

Dagger/Dagger isn’t a support weaponset though, you have less fields and boons, powerful auras is pretty much the only support a dagger/dagger ele can give. Speccing deep in water as dagger/dagger seems a bit backwards as dagger/dagger is a burst dps set.

Lol there is so much wrong with this post.

D/D is really good at supporting. First off and most obvious: healing. You have a total of 3 aoe heals: one upon switching to water, one on your roll (if you’re using EA) and one on your 5 skill. Each heal for about 2k on me. So thats like 6k of burst healing. EA has a 10 sec CD, water attunement has a 9 sec CD (with a 0/10/0/30/30 build, which is what I roll) and Water 6 has a 40 second CD. Next up: AoE Boons. Might stacking, we can do it well, and with the help of a few friends, can keep around 20-25 might stacks on everyone near us, significantly increasing DPS. There’s an Arcana trait that allows you to give one boon to yourself and nearby allies when switching attunements (which we obviously do a LOT). So we’re giving random regens, protections, more might and swiftness all the time. Then we have Soothing Mist, which actually adds up to nice numbers throughout the curse of a battle, since its passively healing everyone around you all the time. And finally, PA! This thing allows us to stack a lot of fury and swiftness on our entire party, along with each aura’s specific benefits. Imagine a Guardian/Warior/Thief getting in the middle of your party and starting to spam their AoE stuff? BAM Frost Aura! Grats, you just stacked a gazillion chills on him! At least I’m pretty sure it works like this, if I happen to be wrong, someone please correct me.

Another big part of supporting that people tend to not notice are control skills. Stuff like Water 3, Wind 5 and Earth 4. Whether you’re in PvE, WvW, or sPvP, these things are beasts, especially when they’re AoE, and we have 3 of them!

And lastly, no. Speccing deep into water is very standard for D/D Ele’s. Have you seen daphoenix’s build? Holy crap that thing is beast.

I’m not saying under any circumstances that D/D support is better than or even as good as Staff support, but it is most definitely not exclusively a DPS/Burst weaponset.

I couldn’t disagree more with Alexixiv’s view on D/D. I play a D/D 0/10/0/30/30 D/D Ele and I have a blast on it. I never switch out of my weapon set, except for defending/sieging buildings in WvW. Orr PvE, Dungeons, sPvP, all in D/D, and I rarely die. With D/D, you have a ton of control skills (1 knockback, 1 knockdown, 1 chill, 1 immobilize, 2 cripples) and most of them are AoE, you have good healing (about 2k+ on each one of: EA water dodge, water 5, and upon switching to water; all of these AoE), and you stack a TON of AoE boons on everyone, and even more on yourself. Also, you can choose between AoE auras (along with all the boons they give you) OR AoE cond removal as your Water 30 Trait, and both are amazing and you should switch them depending on the situation (usually I only go for Powerful Auras on teams of mostly melee characters, since then I can easily apply them on all my teammates and regardless of who the monster attacks one of them will proc) You also have very good constant DPS, since you can get up to 25 might solo (with the blast finisher arcana skill which name I can’t remember and a Superior Sigil of Battle on one of the daggers), prema-swiftness, and very good mobility with Ride The Lightning (Air 4) and other movement skills.

With my build, I’d much rather be in D/D than Staff in group activities like dungeons. I feel like my DPS is very pathetic with Staff compared to dagger, as well as my support capabilities. Really the only thing I envy about Staff is Water 5’s AoE cond removal on every tick it applies regen. kitten’s OP I say. Survivability isn’t an issue as long as you’re smart. You get low, you get out, you heal, you get back in. This game’s designed so no class can AFK tank bosses, or at least I’ve never seen anyone do so.

Also yeah I’m kinda running daphoenix build hehe and I LOVE IT. I’ve played every other class, but my only level 80 is my ele, and the closest I’ve come to liking a class this much are Guardian and Necro, and even then I love my ele much more.

Out of combat weapon swap would be great in PvE, but still overpowered in WvW/PvP.
Imagine enabling Obsidian Flesh and then bum rushing in with Ride the Lightning.

If this actually becomes an issue, then simply make it so every time you swap weapons all boons/self-effects/whatever Obsidian Flesh-like skills are called are removed from you. It’d make everything on so many different classes easier.

It’s not really dropping, it’s actually throwing them since they have horizontal momentum. So I’d say it’s 50/50 between you and gravity. And if they made stuff like that deal more damage it’d be awesome lol.

It actually makes perfect sense to me. I see it this way: ground-targetted skills like Meteor Shower require a certain amount of “power” from the caster to be cast. This amount goes up the farther one wants to cast it from oneself. Imagine a huge sphere around your character: this is the range for the spell you want to cast. If the location you’re aiming for is outside that sphere, you cannot cast it, as it requires more energy or power or whatever than what your character possesses. So, even when elevated, whatever you want to cast needs your energy to travel the distance between you and the desired location, whether it be vertical, horizontal, or anything in between, and if this is outside your boundaries of how much distance said energy can travel, then you can’t cast it.

Instead, projectiles (like every 1 staff ele’s have, except wind) simply need the energy to throw them, and keep going until slamming into something (the ground usually, and due to gravity) so it makes sense that they have a much longer range when thrown from higher ground.

LoS on walls is a different matter I think. Haven’t had problems with that so far ._.

Well if you’re not might stacking then you’re doing it wrong. My full order of skills goes like this:
Starting in fire: 3 for burst and gap closing if needed, 2 but only for around 2-3 ticks, 5, 4, walk a little to the right, then dodge to the left and switch to earth mid-dodge so EA procs inside the ring of fire and gives me 3 stacks of might. While in earth I use 4→ SOMETIMES 3 if I remember to (though with these guys fire aura would only be for the fury/swiftness) then 5.

Switch to water mid 5 and turn on frost aura so they start stacking chills on themselves. Earth 5 is fantastic because it deals a TON of damage on groups of mobs and I never have problems living through the channel. Also 3 extra might stacks. Then I water 3 as soon as the channel’s done, use water 2 for more dps/healing, then I switch to wind. Use shocking aura, 2, then just start autoattacking while walking backwards so they don’t damage me. Usually after a few of these the crabs are dead.

Water autoattack sucks, don’t use it, I only ever use it when I need to leash something without aggroing mobs around it, and even then it’s too short ranged, or when I simply have nothing else to use lol

OH also I carry around Arcane Blast for 3 more might stacks. I always use it before EA procs, in the middle of the dodge, around when I switch to earth. All of this, along with a Superior Sigil of Battle I have on one of my daggers, and the +Boon Duration from Water and Monk runes make me have around 22-25 might stacks quite often.

I’ve been going to Mount Maelstrom lately to try and farm Destroyer Cores (I’m level 80, full P/V/T AC gear, AC Daggers, some random jewelry out of which like 1 is exotic, 1 rare, and the rest masterwork and they have some random stats lol but generally focusing on PVT as well) and I really have absolutely no problem fighting 3 destroyer crabs+ a destroyer troll at once. Yeah, the immune to burn thing is annoying because it makes them take longer to kill, but with the amount of kiting I can do, crabs usually don’t get to hit me with many of their attacks (they don’t hit that hard, but they do it fast). Like for example, I tend to do my cycle like this: fire>earth (for might stacks) (sigils of battle get me to 25 stacks solo eventually!!!) then water, for the chill, and then wind. All the time the crabs are chilled I can just walk backwards while autoattacking with wind and they won’t reach me until chill runs out, and by then they’re probably dead. Btw these mobs are level 65-66.

I’m not sure about trebs specifically since I haven’t played much PvP, but on PvE structures of all sizes, fire 2, water 2, and air 1 and 2 are extremely hard to hit with. Don’t know if it’s a bug or intended.

Even though, I still think we’re one of the best classes for taking down structures, due to skills like fire 3 (as long as you don’t overshoot) and FBow 4, and the tons of PBAoE we have on D/D. And the tons of targetted AoE staff ele’s have (meteor storm chunks trebs and has insane range

Ok so I think I need help. I own an Alienware M17x, with an AMD Radeon 6870m (I think, because now it doesn’t say) and I’m about to cry right now. I read on someone’s post on the first page that the latest driver fixed the FPS issue with GW2 (I’m kind of a noob so forgive me if I’m somwhat vague) so I googled around and ended up on their site, in an article that said to first uninstall my ATI Catalyst Control Manager (or something like that), to then use their Autodetect Driver software thing to find the latest one for my Graphics card. So I follow the instructions and uninstall the Catalyst, and my whole laptop look went to kitten The windows and the entire interface now looks huge, and I’m kind of in panic mode right now and can’t find a way to reinstall this. Since it seems like a lot of you guys have Alienware laptops, I was wondering if anyone could help me figure out how to reinstall whatever I uninstalled. I don’t care about no stupid drivers anymore, I just want my computer look back ;_;

I agree wholeheartedly with the last 2 problems in the OP. I didn’t bother to keep doing them after I got my first mini (I don’t even like minis, I find them useless and not even fun to carry around). And today’s was the same thing over again. If I had known the “grand finale” to this event would be simply redoing one of the dungeons I’d have just skipped it.

Toypocalypse is also too long and too boring for me. Got in to see what it was like, left after 3 waves because too repetitive, boring and uncoordinated.

JP, yeah way too easy. I was thinking you could put in the choice between 3 different difficulty levels, while only changing small things that will represent a bigger challenge on the higher difficulties(for example, making the peppermint candies spin instead of being simple platforms, reducing the amount of time it takes snowflakes to disappear, making more presents disappear at once and with a smaller delay between their disappearances, etc.) They would all give the achievement, but the higher the difficulty level, the better the rewards would be.

In spite of the event being honestly very boring to me, I do have to admit that LA and the dungeon and all the new art looks amazing, as well as the Christmas-themed music.

Even if you just want full DPS, switching to ground is a good idea, since 2 and 5 both apply very powerful bleeds, 2 being the highlight here, since you can cast it 2-3 times before fire goes back off CD. Air 5 also makes any projectiles directed to the target apply vulnerability, making everyone else deal much more damage. So doing fire>ground until fire comes off CD>air (just for air 5)>fire is really good for DPS.

I run a 0/10/0/30/30 D/D Ele, and I’m having a blast with it. I’ve tried almost all other professions except Engie, and the only one I feel safe going into pretty much any situation is my Ele. I have the mobility to run through Orr without minding the mobs there much, and the tankiness and damage to kill off 6+ of them at the same time. Of course, all the while kiting and stacking buffs. It’s also ridiculously easy to tag mobs in events with the tons of PBAoe we have.

The hardest part about starting to play Ele’s is setting up your key bindings imo. It took me a good 30 mins to find one set of bindings that felt easy on my left hand (I use a normal USB Mouse).

Summoned elementals (our “pets”) are stupider than Ranger pets and Necro minions since I think those only attack whoever you target and start attacking, whereas our Ele’s will go on whatever mob is nearby, unless you start attacking a specific one, and even then, if they’re already locked onto a different one, they’ll stay on that one.

Haven’t played much sPvP or WvW with him. Ask someone else about those. But with a Powerful Auras build (grandmaster 30 water trait that spreads auras you apply to yourself and their effects to up to 5 nearby allies) you and your group could get real strong I’d imagine.
