i prefer the zones in gw2 to almost all of the other mmo zones i’ve seen. especially wow, where a lot of the zones have a very limited color palette. especially the end zones. it seems like their policy for end zones is “two colors and that’s it”. makes most of the zones look boring as hell. gw2 maybe has a bit too much color in some zones but it’s better than the alternative imho.

PvP Unique Rewards (Keeping Casuals Invested)

tracks that reward the currently unobtainable pvp sets would be awesome. different tracks for each one of course, with the last reward being a box with the set inside. i would get the tribal set as fast as i could.

Vent: Crafting is bland.

Sleazebag.9427

yeah the only reason i even level up some crafting skills is because of the achievement points, otherwise i find it boring and too expensive for so very little rewards. it was a real shame coming back after like a year and seeing that they didn’t add anything cosmetic and fun to them.

Hard mode, Specifically for Dungeons

yeah interesting mechanics are welcome, and dodging enemies would make weakness a more useful condition in dungeons if they made enemies actually use endurance to do it.

but then again i’m afraid that the new mechanics will just be something boring like agony where the only real counter is getting specific gear.

i’m all for harder dungeons or a hard mode for them, but giving the enemies downed state would be far more annoying than an actual challenge. unless you make the enemies tougher but smaller in numbers.

How to know when you have achieved balance:

in Profession Balance

Posted by: Sleazebag.9427

Sleazebag.9427

to be honest, instead of the usual “plz nerf warriors to teh ground”, i’d say that bringing all of the professions to their level would be more interesting and ultimately make for more entertaining gameplay. and i’m not just talking about this balance wise, but design wise – warriors do have their problems and imbalances but as a whole they seem to be one of the more well designed professions this game has to offer.

Will there be a new playable race?

in Living World

Posted by: Sleazebag.9427

Sleazebag.9427

no. they would have to make new personal story missions for levels 1-30 and record new voice acting for all of them from 1 to 80. they would also have to refit ALL of the existing armor skins for the new race, unless they cheap out and the race uses a model that’s mostly identical to existing races. they would also have to add in new racial abilities, three new racial armor tiers(9 new skin sets), racial weapon skins. never mind the fact that each race in this game has their own city.

this isn’t something that can be added in a content patch of this size. it’s just too big of a change.

Lets Talk: Player Housing

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sleazebag.9427

Sleazebag.9427

i personally liked how lotro handled it, you had neighborhoods where you’d have your house so you could see your neighbor’s place and they could see yours. i dunno how much strain that added to the servers though.

and it took kind of long for them to reset neighborhoods after some veteran players hadn’t played the game for a long time and new players couldn’t even get a house due to the limited amount of neighborhoods. so not a perfect system by any means but one of the more interesting ways it was implemented.

dunno how housing worked in everquest 2.

I now know why Rangers are in the game

in Profession Balance

Posted by: Sleazebag.9427

Sleazebag.9427

hey i’ll gladly take a spirit ranger any time as an ally, they’re far more useful than a bearbow with absolutely no support capacity.

i do understand why spirit rangers are not played much due to the quite stale gameplay, but i’m just puzzled as to why bearbow is so popular in all game modes. i just haven’t seen the ranger/hunter/beastmaster classes use their solo pve builds in pvp in any other game. it’s weird.

what are you expecting?

in Living World

Posted by: Sleazebag.9427

Sleazebag.9427

- one new armor skin for each armor type
- one new skin for all weapons
- about two or three new monster types
- most likely one new zone that is a bit bigger than usual but has some parts of it locked and then unlocked as the season goes on
- one new minigame

and that’s about it. not expecting anything huge. new playable race would be far too huge for just a content update like this. new traits probably won’t happen since there’s still so many that are just not picked at all. one thing i dread is a new tier of gear beyond ascended that would be even more of a grind and even less of a payoff. i hope that doesn’t happen.

Character Naming

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sleazebag.9427

Sleazebag.9427

i don’t really give much thought to my character names, since the quality and style of the personal story’s dialogue doesn’t give much leeway for roleplaying, since i can’t take it seriously. so i just put random nice sounding syllables together or just name them after some obscure reference.

GW2 Kills Zones Like GoT Kills Off Characters

i actually like changes like this to the zones, and i’d especially like if it happened to divinity’s reach. it just seems out of place more than any other city with all the events that are happening in the game. hell even the “slums” of the city are all happy go lucky and all of the buildings are in pristine condition and so on. i ain’t expecting dark fantasy here but divinity’s just looks like there’s a carneval going on 24/7.

[PvE][Necro] Sig of Undeath shorter cast

in Profession Balance

Posted by: Sleazebag.9427

Sleazebag.9427

out of five of the utility spells that revive allies, three (including sig of undeath) have terrible casting times and ~3min recharges, so necromancers aren’t alone in this.

the guardian version also has a rather dubious passive effect. the guardian one also revives only one target and has a slower casting time.

the elementalist version only offers a passive bonus if you are in fire attunement after you succesfully use the glyph, though it is a very nice effect if you can actually pull casting it off. and you only get the three revives if you are in earth attunement.

the exceptions to the rule are illusion of life and search and rescue. with illusion you have a 15 second time limit to kill something or you’re going down again, but it revives 5 people at max i think? and it has a shorter cooldown than the other utility revives.
and search and rescue on the other hand is a terribad utility where you lose control of your pet and he only revives at about third the rate of a player.

so the only revival abilities worth a kitten are illusion of life and the elites, and both battle standard and spirit of nature are extremely good.

excited for a new map, but i hope it isn’t going to be all inquest because of that golem. i think they’re kind of a boring villain faction tbqh

Game Updates: Traits

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sleazebag.9427

Sleazebag.9427

while this system affects everyone, it affects new players the most and i see quite a few players not feeling welcome because of it. i see a lot of people defend it with “but you can buy the traits easily” but where in the world is a new player going to get the gold and skill points to do that? you would have to get lucky with drops, or buy gems and convert them. both of which are just a bad option. and the skill points? well you’d just have to farm them in an extremely boring fashion.

and ignoring the traits and just rushing to level 80 would just be painful, especially once you start working on the dungeon ones – you would constantly be aware of the fact that you’re functioning at a subpar level because you’re lacking some traits that you simply can’t afford to get.

the cost to unlock these traits should be about the same it was to buy the adept, master and grandmaster trait books before, with added costs for the new added traits that weren’t in the game before. if the cost has to increase because of the lack of a cost to reset traits, then increase it but not to such an extent as it is now. the skill point cost should especially be reduced or removed from all but the new traits.

as for the real unlocking system, it is an idea that might work if the unlocks were different by profession and were actually fun to do – but right now they’re mostly chores that force you to either do content that you don’t like or pay a fee that is extremely high compared to what it used to be.

The AI-Build Issue (no QQ)

in Profession Balance

Posted by: Sleazebag.9427

Sleazebag.9427

i don’t really see ai builds becoming much harder to use since i’m fairly sure the gw2 engine has none of the pet/hero controlling code left from gw1 and i don’t know how feasible it would be to implement back in, especially at this point in the game’s life

and if the minions would become controllable, i am quite sure that we would see even more complaining about ai builds, and not from the people playing them – it would be just an echo of “MINION BUILDS CONTROLLING THEIR MINIONS TO FOCUS ME?? OVERPOWERED. PLEASE REVERT CHANGES PLZ.”

the possible changes to make the builds somewhat harder would be to make the builds more reliant on the secondary abilities that replace the minion button after you’ve summoned them, and the addition of abilities from gw1 like order of undeath, jagged bones, armor of unfeeling, painful bond, spiritleech aura and the like and then making these builds more reliant on them as well to succeed.

Should I purchase a skin at the market?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Sleazebag.9427

Sleazebag.9427

you should check out http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Human_male_heavy_armor or another heavy armor gallery, pick the ones you like and check out how you can get them. some skins are only crafted, some are only in the gem store, some are only drops , some are race specific, some are bought with currency you get for dungeon clears and some pvp skins are currently unavailable in the game (only players who had them before can use them now).

as you level and complete your personal story, pick up every heavy armor piece so you unlock their skins. it’s probably a good idea to right click the story rewards and preview them – the stats don’t matter a whole lot during leveling. just pick whatever you like the look of the most. the skins are unlocked account wide so if you ever make another char you’ll have the skins for him too.

yeah it’s strange that there’s no reward for doing all of them. i know people will comment “but they’re all so easy” or whatever, but there still should be -something- for doing all of them.

there are a lot of other things too that you’d think would give some kind of an achievement/title/reward, like the mini-dungeons, or doing all of the slayer or weaponmaster achievements, but there’s nothing. hell i’d like an achievement for getting all of the profession specific pvp achievements, like just a title saying “versatile” or something.

Warrior isn't as enjoyable as I thought

in Players Helping Players

Sleazebag.9427

yeah pretty much i have most fun with a warrior if i try out goofy builds that people don’t really expect. even if they don’t really work it’s fun to watch people go “what the hell is this guy doing”

mesmer is the profession i’m most interested in making to 80 next, but they’re extremely painful to level, especially with the new trait system (that somehow seems to hurt them more than other professions during leveling imho) and there’s a ton of stuff to learn while playing them

as integral as rng seems to be for mmos, gw2 just has a bit too much of it and the way the numbers are usually against you annoys me more than most mmos

and no, this isn’t a “give me guaranteed legendaries” post, it’s just that the chance to get absolute garbage is much higher than getting something that is at least somewhat useful

Simplify Currencies [suggestion]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sleazebag.9427

Sleazebag.9427

but but if you make all live events use the same currency you’ll have people playing the events they actually like and saving up the currency in case there’s an event that they don’t like but they really like the cosmetics from it

and that’s just unfair. people shouldn’t be able to play what they actually like

[Suggestion] Bring back Skills from GW1

i want illusionary weaponry back for mesmers – for the duration you would ignore evades and blocks but you’d get the damage cap or just a percentage based reduction on all your abilities, maybe remove debuffs and other additional effects from them for the duration too i guess.

maybe splinter weapon too to add a temporary cleave to non-cleave single target attacks. much higher cooldown than in gw1 of course

all of the more unique necro and mesmer debuffs would be welcome too, especially the necro ones
