So Unprofessional [SUP] – Crystal Desert

It’s like that in pretty much every game, ever. The devs always put 100x more effort into female characters and clothes for whatever reason.
Even in real life, women’s clothing tends to be far more elaborate and well made.Go to a local department store, and look for something like… a hoodie.
In the female section, you’ll find a bunch of form-fitted ones with elaborate designs covering them, faux-fur lining, and whatever other random crap like large cosmetic stitching across the sleeves.
Go to the male section and 99% of them will be plain, baggy hooded sweatshirts. If you’re lucky they might have a logo on the back.I’m not a cross-dresser, but the whole thing kittens me off so much, I’ve actually been tempted before to look in the female clothing sections for clothes that don’t necessarily LOOK female.
Way I see it is (and this may come across as me stereotyping and I apologize) that men don’t tend to care so much about looks as females do. We spend so much time trying to look good wether that’s with makeup, hair, nails, clothing, hell handbags even and so on lol. It’s just because there is a bigger “market” for it with females than there is with males. Not all guys are the same nor are girls of course, I just think generally speaking that is the way it is.
Even though games are far from being marketed toward females, they still put a lot more into females perhaps because they know the (hetero) male gamer likes looking at them and dressing them up lol. With male characters you get “cool” looking armor or looks, where for females it’s geared more toward what looks sexy to males.
I for one probably would have liked the male norn had they not been designed to look like giant dwarves (contradiction I guess) but they made them bulky and huge to appeal to the types who want to have a huge powerful look. Like the Hulk or something I guess. Human males do look a bit more feminine but I don’t see that as a bad thing. I wish there were more variety in the shapes and looks of the faces for them, or I might have made one myself. Not all men are shaped like body builders and frankly that’s not attractive to me at all… so the male body shapes were a nice change in terms of what’s “the norm” in games. Same way I feel about the female norn and why I love them so much. Yes they’re very blessed in terms of their breasts xD but, their body shapes overall are much heftier and more interesting in my opinion. I wish they had more than 6 or so body shapes to choose from.
But I went on a tangent. All in all I guess what I’m getting at is that it just depends entirely on the audience they’re trying to cater for. Even though female gamers are becoming more and more common now games are still primarily aimed at hetero male gamers, thus design choices are more made for that stereotype I suppose.
I agree with so much of this, and yet so much of it depresses me. Though I’m one of those girls that don’t typically care so much about handbags and hair products. lol
To add: frankly, I’m tired of the mindset that a guy can’t be “manly” (whatever the heck that really is) if they don’t have watermelon sized biceps. It’s not normal in real life to look like a body builder on steroids, but in games if you don’t look like that and you’re playing a male character, you’re not “manly” (god I hate that word) or you are “gay” (not bad thing, but another word tossed around so carelessly and often as a degrading insult, which is sad). It’s more than a little depressing and irritating. I’m glad they gave human males the option to NOT look like a steroid-addicted gorilla. It’s not something you often see in games.

This just in: If you are male and don’t look like a hairy ape, you belong in a boy band…
Okay.
I feel your pain, OP. I feel like I’ve been tossed into WoW’s trade chat, to be perfectly honest. Map chat shall never see the light of day on my game again.
702 deaths since launch on my ranger main. Most of them from WvW. Funny, I thought I would be looking at well over 1,000.
Oh my god. Someone who finally gets it! Thank you! Can we be friends? lmao
I noticed a difference in the running animation, too, though I cannot say I am disappointed. Anything is better than the previous.
I laughed so hard I cried….then I realized it was 100% accurate to this day and just cried.
Haha same here.
I’m sorry for the flood of my tears.
I am extremely irked about this possible nerf. I’m squishy enough as is with the 50% endurance regen. and one of my main tactics for survival is dodging (I mainly WvW). What the heck is the point of this? Even after much thought and consideration I fail to see the good this nerf will do. Yay for another nerf to our already under-powered class!
Taken today in the Tower of Nightmares. Only recently got my guardian to 80 and am enjoying it.
can you please name off the armor pieces you’re wearing. especially the legs and helm. its hard to find good looking helms and I don’t think I’ve seen that one. I also favor heavy armor that mixes in robes/cloth
Helm: Vigil
Shoulders: Honor of the Waves
Chest: Vigil
Gloves: Ascalonian Catacombs
Legs: Vigil
Boots: Honor of the Waves

Other than a Dolyak, what animals can even be ridden in Tyria? Stags? lol
There are no horses that I’ve seen.
I am pretty darn certain they exist in Tyria. I’ve seen references to them once or twice in game (cannot remember where specifically) and seen a concept art piece or two with someone on a horse.
I for one would love to have one for my human characters. Though it would be ridiculous to see other races on them. Race specific mounts would be cool. Hopefully restricted from cities and WvW, though.
He doesn’t look much like Canach, but then again, neither does Canach, so it’s anyone’s guess who he is or how he’s involved.
Oh my god. I laughed so hard.
I don’t miss the trinity at all. It can stay gone.
Simple, to the point and I agree.
Now, what I do not understand, is why someone who loves the Holy Trinity is playing GW2? There are so many other games out there that cater to those that want it.
Because not everyone enjoys the playstyle of a guardian? Different people have different tastes. I am sorry that is so hard to fathom.
Playing since launch but have yet to do a single dungeon in this game because of the elitist mentality displayed by much of the player base that infests many games. Other MMOs and the populace killed dungeons for me, and it appears the players of GW2 are only continuing the trend. I feel your pain, OP.
Personally, I am disappointed with the medium. It looks alright in general and I can see the appeal it might have for some. But good god I wouldn’t let my ranger be caught dead in that. If only there were a wider variety to cater to more tastes. Suppose I’m still stuck in the same chest piece I’ve been wearing for a year.
I have been wondering if there is a fix for this in the works as well. I bought this hairstyle for my Mesmer and loved it in the previews, but in game it just looks awful because of this issue.
I do not mind PvP. That’s why I’m in WvW, after all. I’ve always been a PvPer. However, I consider CAMPING completely unacceptable. It wouldn’t be so bad if people had a way out without being forced to completely remove themselves from the map because some dumb players feel it’s fun to grief others. And anet not implementing any possible way to out of such situations is bad game design. For example, why am I not able to simply run back through the portal? It makes NO sense. The people who say ‘PvP happened in a PvP zone’ are often the ones who are griefing or haven’t experienced the constant ganking themselves. They have no empathy and don’t care because it didn’t happen to them.
I respect you, OP. I do the same : ) Perhaps I’m up against enemies, but I still retain empathy.
I’m not usually one to complain, but after heading to Zraith’s Beacon today and being camped by a different server nonstop, I’m extremely irritated. This is absolutely ridiculous. And I can’t even waypoint out of it for I’m stuck in combat even after going several minutes without. The only way to get out is by either exiting the game or heading to a different borderlands. This has been going on what, since the game started? And has yet to be fixed? This is absurd.
I have no idea. When I first started playing, I vowed to myself I would NOT roll a human. No way no how. I never do! But… now my 2 mains are both human. My quest has failed. It’s kinda funny, because my favorite race is the Charr but ugh, I feel so slow whenever I try one.
I revive every chance I get. Whether that person is right next to me or all the way across my mini map, you better believe I’m going to do my best to get to them. Even in WvW if I see someone dead behind enemy lines, I’ll often try and sneak behind the mass of enemies to get to that person. If anyone in the vicinity calls out for a rez, I’m there. I have no idea why, but I love reviving people. Not for the minuscule xp you get from it. There is just something about helping them out. haha
