They must have changed it. A while ago I was running TA on both my 80 Ranger and my 80 Guardian and getting the 60 token daily a total of six times.

Change of two abilities:

StevieMJH.9105

While, selfishly, I would love these to be changed like this, I don’t think the Guardian really needs it at the moment. Apart from thieves, my Guardian can already outrun everyone in my guild’s zerg as we run through WvW just by combining the GS leap and “Retreat!”.

After geared with full berserk set, I realized....

2240 HP = 15% more HP since the fact of most guardian has about ~15k HP.

224 Vitality doesn’t give you “15% more HP.” It gives you a flat rate of 2240 HP. 10 HP for every vitality point.

Percentages have nothing to do with it when adding vitality unless you include the health that you already have, which is pointless, seeing as that number could be anything including or above the flat rate.

Coming from someone who already has a completed Exotic Toughness/Vit/Healing Power build, I can tell you that it isn’t wildly better than any other build out there as far as one on ones. I can beat most people when I fight them in WvW but it’s not because the build is just wildly spectacular, it’s just that the mindset of people in WvW is “do as much damage as possible as soon as possible.” So when my Guardian is able to get through that damage with more than half of her health remaining the other player has no idea what to do.

I have a Power/Prec/Crit Ranger as well. It doesn’t dominate any less or any more than my Guardian, but it has a wildly different playstyle. There are times on my Guardian where I think, “what I would do for a bow that 3-hits people right now.” And times on my Ranger where I think, “what I would do for all of my health coming back with one skill.”

In short, you won’t find a build that is just plainly better (unless you, for example, go condition damage on a class that doesn’t have many conditions) than any other. As long as you stick to a certain build once you start it, youll be fine.

That doesn’t mean it’s accurate to say that 224 gives you 15% more HP. That only is true if the Guardian has 15k HP. If they have the flat Guardian HP it would be more, if they already have 18k, it would be less. If you’re trying to talk about it as value for your money, you have to understand that you’re never going to get any more or less value for your spent trait points or armor stats than you do when you first start adding vitality. You get the same amount for every point whenever you add it.

My girlfriend just bought this game and wants to play with me. I’m on Jade Quarry, which is one of the most populated servers on the game right now, and I play WvW quite often. In fact, it is basically the only thing I do at the moment.

I want to help her level and create a new character to run through the game with her, however, I don’t want to leave Jade Quarry and my guild just so I can play with her, then have to wait a week to go play WvW, then another to wait before I can come back and play with her again.

Do I have to wait patiently for ANet to finally release the guesting feature, which was advertised to be available right away, or what?

Is it still possible to sneak into a full server at night, when less people are on?

If she joins any random server right now to play for a while until Jade Quarry opens, and it opens within a week after she joined that server, will she be able to switch, or does creating your character on a new world force you to wait a week before you can switch?

What are my options?

I didn’t say there wasn’t plenty, I said it costs more to obtain. Ruby jewels and anything giving Prec/Crit costs more. It’s easy to see. Ruby orbs sell for up to 10 silver while the others sell for 1.5. There’s not less of them, people just want them more, so they cost more.

Which Profession Costs the Least Gold to Equip Maxed Items?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: StevieMJH.9105

StevieMJH.9105

Profession doesn’t really have much bearing on that. It depends on the build you want. Heavy/Medium/Light armor is all around the same as far as cost, depending on your preferred build.

What I can tell you, however, is that Power/Prec/Crit is going to be the most expensive gear you can find. It is used mainly for DPS builds, and seeing as a lot of people want DPS builds, the price is naturally going to be much higher. Things that offer toughness and vitality, for example, tend to be much lower.

Another thing that changes the amount of money you have to spend is what your preferred weapon will be. If you plan on using two-handed weapons you can expect to pay less (or run less dungeons) than if you planned on using two sets of two one-handed weapons.

That dungeon is very forgiving for the very reason that you need to complete it to finish the game. 95% of the people that run that dungeon’s story mode will be understanding and give you some leeway if you don’t immediately understand dungeon mechanics.

By the way, there are two different types of dungeons. Each dungeon has a story mode variant and an explorable mode variant. To be able to start a run of explorable mode, you have to have completed the story mode, however if one person in your party has completed story mode, he can launch it for everyone. Story mode dungeons are usually (some exceptions) easier, although longer, and don’t require that much skill or cunning to complete. Just time.

Explorable mode dungeons are the ones that people want to speed run because they give tokens that can be exchanged for level 80 exotic gear.

The dungeon you have to complete is a story mode dungeon, so you don’t have too much to worry about.

Power is better against things your level seeing as you will be able to take their damage easily. However, if fighting things above your level, you will most likely want to keep from taking their full damage without any toughness or vit.

Condition damage

in Players Helping Players

StevieMJH.9105

Yep, sounds right. Some classes can’t reliably put on conditions. At least not enough to warrant a build based on conditions. Only consider condition builds on classes that have weapons where the default attack (or an attack in the default chain) applies a condition. Or classes that have buffs (that can be used often) that give you conditions on every hit.

Low level traits and leveling up professions

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: StevieMJH.9105

StevieMJH.9105

It’s actually rather simple.

Vitality increases your health by a factor of 10. 1 vitality point gives you 10 health. One point in the vitality tree gives you 10 vitality which gives you 100 health.

Toughness works by increasing your armor stat in conjunction with your defense stat. Defense + Toughness = Armor. Armor is used to decrease enemy attack power (obviously), but it is a dividing effect, so the more you stack toughness, the less effective each concurrent point will be. It’s like increasing the denominator in a fraction. For example, 1/4 is closer to 1/3 than 1/3 is to 1/2, so the fourth point you get in toughness is less worthwhile than the third.

Healing power depends on the skill, some are increased by .25 per point and some are increased by .10 or something.

All the others are pretty much direct and self explanatory.

In my opinion, you’ll want to increase toughness and vitality while levelling. It helps you take on hearts and skill points that are above your level so that you don’t have to go to a different area for a while to level, then come back and finish that one later. It’s a lot easier to level if you don’t just run into a brick wall of defeat every now and then.

When you get to level 80, however, you might want to switch back to whatever your class is best at, seeing as at that point you won’t be taking on anything at a higher level than you.

I rather like guardian for supporting, since I can still get in the thick of things if I want to and starting swinging large bits of metal around.

Elementalist is somewhat fun if you like healing but since it needs a little help from other people to get the biggest effect, and some of the people out in the game world are braindead (OMG IT’S A KITTENING COMBO FIELD USE IT), I personally get a little disappointed with it. Whereas, with guardian, I feel like I can just wade in there and the skills I normally use to bash things will also give everyone sweet boons like aegis and might so hey that’s cool.

Exactly why I like my Guardian.

My typical fight:

Oh there’s two of us just running around trolling and I see a group of five enemies?

HURR DURR COME HERE -pulls all five to me with my GS elite- -spin around- -tank- -about to die- -heal- -kill two enemies, collect loot- -run like hell- -survive-

Condition damage

StevieMJH.9105

That would be correct if the ticks were once every second. However, with bleeds, it does not stack duration per say, it stacks intensity. With my ranger, when I attack someone once with a shortbow, the bleed lasts for 5 seconds and then goes away. If I hit them twice, it lasts for 5 seconds + how long it took me to fire my second shot, but the bleed ticks twice as fast.

So I’m getting a slightly longer bleed duration (simply because I shot again), but I am getting a drastically higher damage output the more I hit the target. Plus the ability to add quickness and sharpening stone, the Ranger’s potential to add bleed goes up extremely fast because you are firing quicker and getting 2 stacks per hit, thereby making the ticks go faster seeing as you are able to keep more stacks on target.

Hopefully that was able to clear it up for you.

Well, other than my opinion that the thief counters everything, I feel like the thief’s ability to stealth and run up to the Ranger nullify’s the Ranger’s ability to kite and avoid damage. If the thief didn’t constantly jump to me and stealth so that I couldn’t bind him or knock him down, I would be able to take down his limited health supply rather easily with my high crit rate.

However, seeing as both Mesmers and Thieves can avoid damage through guile and take you down without taking much damage, Rangers with their limited survivability cannot live long.

The only time I’ve ever been able to kill a thief 1v1 as a Ranger was when I was able to get the jump on them in WvW.

Yes, this is very sad. In the course of 3 minutes standing around near a trade broker in the Charr starting area, I heard the exact same NPC dialogue at least 10 times. Something about how the trader left a message for some guy and how this other guy is so fed up with someone kittening about the burnt meat that the next thing on the fire will be him.

Blah blah blah. It’s annoying as kitten and it destroys the environment. Also you’re right. You can kill a boss and in ten seconds he will be back. It’s pointless.

All-in-all this is very similar to the Mass Effect 3 lies that were spread by BioWare before release.

They specifically said that the ending wouldn’t comprise of “three endings, A, B, and C” but what did the endings comprise of? Yep.

I wish companies wouldn’t feel like they have to overstate the groundbreaking effect of their game if they have no intention of actually doing the work required to achieve that.

Beating Leurent & knights without exploiting leashing

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: StevieMJH.9105

StevieMJH.9105

I did it the other day with a decent group. I don’t remember our exact composition but I do remember the two key elements that we used to get through without a problem.

We had a level 80 guardian (me) in near-full exotic armor that was repeatedly stacking aegis to block attacks and using a breakstun to get out of the knockdowns by the knights. I would go down a lot, but people would be able to res me and I would get up and keep tanking.

Secondly, and more importantly, we had a trap ranger. The trap ranger would just drop traps all over the place, namely spike and ice traps, and megaslow all the knights. Their cooldowns took forever to recharge and they were left default attacking us instead of using their mega-cool instakill knockdown combo. We had enough DPS that we were able to take down all three knights plus Laurent without anyone dying and without having to de-aggro any of them.

It was the first and only time I’ve been in a group that could do it straight-up (which is sad on ANet’s part), but it worked.

tl;dr: Stack chills and have a Guardian with tons of aegis.

Yeah, unfortunately, despite the cool idea, necro is somewhat of a crap class. Can’t blame you for picking it, it looks cool, but you got suckered, I think. Even without bugs, it still is down the middle for both damage and survivability, so you won’t be able to enjoy either aspect completely. I’ve never run into any major problems when fighting a necro as either my Ranger or my Guardian.

As far as the best support, I would say Guardian. I have a level 80 full exotic with a healing/vit/tough build. I’m definitely a bunker/healer. I can take 4 or 5 enemies in wvw and survive long enough to get out or get help. Also with a simple skill swap i become a healer.

I can show you my build more extensively later. It’s a simple one. Doesn’t rely on skills or utility, just pure stats. I stacked Vit/Toughness/Healing Power and got some Power on the side from my weapons. I win 90% of 1v1s as long as the enemy doesn’t immediately run away. When they run, it’s a little tougher seeing as Guardians have no viable ranged damage.

Overall, though, it doesn’t really make that much of a difference either way – this type of application is not much different to GW2Spidy, and using the GW2Spidy API you could write your own application to do pretty much the same thing.

Except that app is not reading any memory or storage relating to the game. It’s accessing a public API on a website and using a grabber to get the prices of items on the TP. If they didn’t like it, they wouldn’t use a crappy HTML trading post.

The mob density in this game is too kitten high to allow for mounts. Not that I would want mounts even if the density was lower. I hate both.

Loot in general should be fixed. Spending ten minutes on a dragon so that one person in the zerg of 50+ gets a rare and everyone else gets shafted? No thank you.

The last time I fought Jormag I got 1s 26c or something like that, 3 blue drops that sold for 1 silver or less, and one beryl orb that sold for 1s 50 c.

4s total for a dragon. Impressive. xD

But that’s a story for another forum. My point is that the dungeons are suffering from the same problem. The fact that the chests are pointless to okitten pretty disheartening. I ran TA for the entire day three days straight across two characters to get my gear from it and the best thing I got from a chest was a corrupted core. Neato. 5 silver. I’ll go get the parade license.

Chests at the moment are basically just ways of saying, “hey, go clear out your inventory real quick.”

Also if you type the word “open” followed by the word “is” it gets filtered… I lol’d. Might want to check that out, forum ops. xD

Well, apart from a quick investment in Black Lion Chests last night, I really can’t find that much success. I dropped 50 gold into chests and then sold them 10 minutes later for a 10 gold profit.

So... how do I go about investing and getting a return?

So I’ve got about 50 gold right now and I know that that has to be enough to make some sort of decent investment. I’ve got the money to buy anything worthwhile short of a precursor weapon and I want to get some sort of profit but from what I can tell there is really no way to get any sort of decent return without either waiting a ridiculously long amount of time or risking a ton of cash on a dream.
