Pistol is garbage to me without ricochet. Without it, I have little encouragement to log into the game anymore. It was never about whether pistol was “strong”. No one had any problem accepting that P/P wasn’t the top tier “meta” max viable PVP build. What it was was one of the most FUN builds in town, and now that’s gone, completely dumped upon by devs who don’t research the players and how they play classes and just want to hamfistedly try and make everything more esports.
Thief without pistol ricochet == thief without pistols.
Thief without pistols == I don’t log in anymore.
Seconding/thirding/infinitying the return of ricochet, lost count of how many fellow thieves have been demanding justice. It would also be nice if the incompetent non-playing dev who claimed it was removed for being “too RNG” and “reduced the purity of pistol” were publicly reprimanded for gross neglect in class research.
My biggest fear is that they’re going to completely ignore all the furor and outcry from them completely destroying, for example, pistol thieves, and just saying “well we know people are going to complain after this patch so let’s just ignore the forums for a month” and then pat themselves on the back for a job well done. But a month is a long time to wait for a response when you have no reason to log into the game anymore now that Anet has removed your build for not being “pure” enough…
Still no response I see.. ricochet thief, just another victim of devs’ callous insistence that people play the classes the way they want them played.. 3 years too late.. with no research done to see what the players actually enjoy.
“Warriors are using their adrenaline to chased down foes or prime alpha strikes with Eviscerate, Kill Shot, or Combustive Shot! This isn’t what WE want now, so let’s cripple adrenaline!”
“Rangers are throwing their traps around offensively and using them to keep foes at bay! This isn’t what WE want now, so let’s remove trap throwing!”
“Thieves are using their pistols to have fun in a way that isn’t overpowered or hurts anything! This isn’t what WE want, so let’s completely neuter pistols!”
“You guys aren’t playing our classes right!! We have to be Esports!! Quick, remove all complex or creative builds, and just buff the damage of the 3 meta builds we approve of so twitch streams look more dynamic!”
(edited by Stormclaw.5031)
Every other weapon set: "Enjoy your decreased cooldown and +20% bonus damage with adrenaline!
“…Except YOU, Axe. Get to the back of the bus. You only get ONE.”
This reminds me of Dragonhunter. It’s juvenile and not creative. They proceed to tell us it actually is creative because it’s a “high concept” and if only we understood high concepts.
Purity of Pistols. Another High Concept term for an answer when they don’t actually have an answer.
Reminds me of the Mass Effect 3 non-ending. “What do you mean we pulled this out of our kitten at the last minute? You just don’t get it! It’s high concept!”
Now entering day 2 of my not logging in to the game, seeing as how the build I most enjoyed playing was removed for no remotely acceptable reason. This isn’t a boycott or anything, more like a.. lone anti-vigil. I’ll just be off quietly burning a candle NOT in game until the devs realize what a colossally nonsensical, frustrating, aggravating blunder this was and restore what they destroyed in their poorly-conceived wisdom to “purify” a class they didn’t take the time to fully investigate or understand.
It’s amusing that people are complaining about wing animations on a single back item when there are basic player animations that have been broken for 7-8 months that they refuse to address.
Don’t forget warhorn nerfs. Converting a single condition to a boon too powerful, apparently.. better change it to just remove one condition! That’s another spec in the trash…
Yeah, the excuses they gave are ridiculous. “Too much RNG” isn’t even accurate, I felt it was very consistent over long term use. Especially given that Unload fires so many rounds, the randomness of the ricochet evens out over time. And that’s hardly a reason to remove it entirely. It hurt nothing in PVP, and was fun as hell in PVE.
I’m not exaggerating for emphasis in any way when I say Ricochet was the only thing that made me look forward to logging in and running around the game in recent days. The fact that they can so callously remove it with such baffling, nonsensical reasons given is just completely mystifying to me.

ricochet was a mix of too hard to balance, too much RNG, and reduced purity of pistol
So frustrating. What the hell is “reduced purity of pistol” even supposed to mean? I don’t think I could come up with a more meaningless garbled excuse if I tried. This is the kind of thing that makes me question whether the developer in charge of this change has ever even played the build.
“Oh hey it turns out that thing you’ve been enjoying for years wasn’t quite what I personally had in mind, so let me just completely kill the class for you. There, now isn’t that so much more ‘pure’?”
I don’t care about “build viability”.
I don’t care about DPS performance or the “current meta” or any such concepts.
All I care about is having fun.
And one of the few fun things remaining for me in this game was to run around as my dual pistols thief, blasting everything in sight, watching bullets ricochet off every target. And now I can’t do that. Now one of the last remaining fun things is dead, for no comprehensible reason whatsoever. What point could it possibly serve to neuter the build by removing Ricochet like this?
Before I moved to Thief, I used to play Warrior mainly. Back then, the most fun thing for me to do was run around, chaining adrenaline bursts from group to group. The pacing of world PVE spawns is such that it’s very likely you’ll annihilate a group before getting to use a full adrenaline bar, which means it was a lot of fun to be able to jump onto the next group with a burst. That was killed too. Oh, sure, warrior is still strong, and adrenaline/burst skills are still great against bosses. But a very important subtle bit of the fun factor was lost. It just isn’t fun to roam around openly as warrior anymore. So I moved to thief. And now the thing that drew me to that class is gone.
This isn’t “I quit.” I WANT to keep enjoying this game, I WANT to keep playing, and I WANT to spend a truckload of realmoney on gems to feed into the economy, but I can’t do the first thing and I’m left with no reason to do the latter two if changes in the name of class “balance” or build redesign really intend to be this deadset on neutering the most fun and enjoyable aspects of the classes I like to play.
Would really appreciate some sort of clarification over whether this was a bug or oversight, and ricochet was never intended to be removed and will be fixed soon. Ideally within the next day or so, so I know whether to buy gems or not.
One of the reasons why the loss of these animations is so sensitive to many people is because there are so, so few ways for players to actually feel like they’re integrated in and having an effect on the world around them. The illusion offered by world events quickly wears off once you see them repeated every few minutes like clockwork. The game promises a “personal story”, but let’s face it, it’s really the Logan & Trahearne Show and you’re just a supporting character in it. Living World Season 1 is the Legend of Scarlet, All Praise Be Unto Her, and by this point your character has even lost her voice. Season 2 is the Kasmeer & Marjory Soap Opera With Special Comic Relief Guests Rox Braham and Taimi and Oh Yeah Maybe there’s Someone called the “Boss” or Something Who Cares She’s Not Important. They’ve been making tiny strides in improving the player’s supposed role in these stories but it’s still clear they care more about their own personal NPC fiction than how much the player feels like he or she actually matters in any of it.
So, as silly as it sounds, one of the FEW TINY THINGS we have to remind us that our character is a living breathing part of this world is to be able to stand still and watch her play a few little animations every once in a while. Yes, it sounds laughable written out that like. I can accept that a lot of people won’t really “get” this, that it seems trivial and unimportant in the grand scheme of just “playing the game” and acquiring points. And really, it is such a small thing, isn’t ?it? But to have it taken away.. it’s just the salt in the wound. The feeling of being shoved in a corner and told “you shouldn’t be looking at YOUR character, you should be paying attention to KASMEER!” It’s just a nagging feeling of neglect slowly growing across two years of numerous bugs and issues that affect player characters being ignored in favor of drawing attention to one or another member of the dev team’s shiny dangling new keys.

Fat chance. This is one of those many fixes that would take someone literally 30 seconds to pull off, just add a quick crafting skill to make the missing skins or slap them on a karma or wvw vendor, there’s a hundred ways they could fix this with trivial implementation and testing costs. Hell, they could just add a spoon you doubleclick to automatically unlock all the missing skins if they don’t want to muck with the crafting tables. But with the bureaucratic clusterkitten that is apparently what constitutes for the change and fix process going on over the past year, this will never, ever get assigned to anyone to complete. They still haven’t fixed the missing idle animations that’ve been going on for 7 months now.. remember the last time your human female yawned? Or maybe you’ve noticed that the female versions of skins like the Koda shoulders and heavy illustrious armor have broken, undyeable portions that have no such problem in the male version, despite being identical meshes and textures files?
If you’re lucky enough to get 10 pages worth of replies to this thread, you might get a “thanks for reporting this bug! we’re looking into it!” response at best. If I sound bitter, it’s because this bug has been in the game for TWO YEARS, and they haven’t done a thing about it.

Sadly it looks a little odd with without the helmet. The red/molten area just ends without any metallic frame around it, so it looks like your face is just floating on a bowl of orange.
We absolutely want to make build templates.
This should NOT be an SPvP only thing. Why should PVE players have to suffer so much constantly switching gear and traits when running a variety of content?
What I envision is simple and user-friendly: I press a hotkey, and a small window opens up in the corner of my screen. There are two rows of square icons, one for gear and one for traits. The icons present in these rows represent selections that have previously been saved by me.
I can equip a set of gear, hit ‘save outfit’, and a menu will appear showing every equip slot, with a check box next to each one to indicate which pieces I want to save in the outfit. So for example I can save just my 6-piece armor sets to have a ‘soldiers’ set and a ‘berserker’ set. These sets will then be saved as icons in the build list, and clicking it will equip just those six pieces, leaving my other slots (amulet, weapons, etc) untouched. Or, I could create sets for just my two weapons, so I can switch between them slightly easier (I carry 4 axes with different sigils for example, right now it’s a mild hassle leaving my inventory window open and right-clicking “equip as off-hand” all the time). The icon representing the set could be chosen from a list, or automatically determined by the gear (maybe the last item I ‘check’ is used as the icon representing the set, etc)
The second row in the templates menu could be used for traits, in a hopefully self-evident way. I simply select my traits and hit ‘save build’. Perhaps an window comes up with a list of icons for me to choose from, so I could pick a picture of one of the longbow skills to represent my WvW longbow trait build, or a banner to represent my dungeon banners build, etc.
I hereby grant full authorization for the Arenanet/Guild Wars 2 development team to use the ideas contained within this forum post in any way they see fit without need for compensation or acknowledgement.
Having extensive experience as a 3d developer (I’ll spare you the cliche resume), I see no legitimate technical hurdle to implementing such features, and have designed numerous such systems myself. Closed system though GW2 may be, there’s clearly nothing extraordinarily unusual or alien going on with the renderer. A competent programmer worthy of the name should be able to adapt it with no additional performance cost. Therefore, I believe my initial observation that this is basically just a scheme to arbitrarily charge more money for redundant items to be the more probable scenario here.
If ArenaNet is truly lacking the manpower to make such improvements to the renderer, I would be happy to do this work pro bono (in a fantasy world where there’s no red tape to a company bringing in an outside volunteer contractor to work with sensitive proprietary code, of course).
Very disappointing to see the glowing mask isn’t dyeable. Even if the name implies that it’s supposed to be red, there’s no technical reason why it shouldn’t be able to receive any dye color. I can think of only two possibilities:
- Laziness on the part of the design team
- Leaving options only so they can sell different palette-swapped colors in the future for even more gems
which of course defeats the entire purpose of and makes a mockery of the dye system.
So according to the FAQ you’ll be turning all the non-outfit items, such as Layered Jacket, Riding Boots, and Khaki Cargo Shorts into “tonics” that can neither be mixed and matched nor dyed. All I can say is can’t wait for those refunds! Hope you have enough CSR reps ready to handle the tickets.
This is ridiculous, the heavy set looks just as bad, if not moreso. It doesn’t matter whether the palette swap is of Tier 3 or lowbie karma armor, it’s still an abysmal drop in content quality. I hope you consider replacing all three sets, gem store item or not this is just severely disappointing.
I won’t bother complaining about how the female version of the armor has ridiculous gaps on the breasts/thighs because clearly Arenanet doesn’t intend to stop overly sexualizing our female characters, but for what purpose are females given that utterly ridiculous, trashy looking open helm when the male version is unquestionably so much more impressive? Having supported this game for a year I’m finding these sorts of letdowns continually disappointing.

Because there’s nothing else to do in this game with money but collect new skins.
also lol at “showing off” 100g. are you being serious?
They really should at least do one big cleanup pass of the TP. How many thousands of 1-copper bids are there on exotic and legendary items? How many tens of millions of T1 mats are there up being sold for 30 silver? There’s “long term investment”, and then there’s just total nonsense. There’s a whole bunch of legacy crap left over from before the vendor-price restrictions on buying and selling were placed.
Not to mention the old, outdated bugginess of the categories. There are numerous item categories that don’t do anything at all and have no items listed. There are categories for items that are now all soulbound or account bound only. Back items have no category of their own and cannot be easily searched for en masse. The “food” subcategory of Consumables does not show most food items. There’s no category for skins (there’s Consumables/Transmutations, but skins aren’t in it). Numerous items are missing a category flag completely. And we’re all aware of how ridiculous it is that you can’t search for armor by Heavy/Medium/Light. And so on…
It shouldn’t BE a tradeoff. Toughness should make you tougher, not “more likely to die because everything wants to hit you, plus you do less DPS”
Like the ability colors mean anything in WvW anyway. Get 60 people together and all you see is a big smeared white blob of particle effects on anything being hit.
Gold sinks are fine, and necessary, but I hate waypoint fees, because they discourage me from traveling and exploring. Even if the cost is minimal compared to my savings, there’s just the subconscious feeling of waste that makes me say, for example, “hey, I need to go back to that zone to finish searching for jumping puzzles.. but 4s is a waste.. ehh forget it, I’ll just log off instead.”
Waypoint fees are, IMO, detrimental to the overall enjoyment of the game. Move that gold sink to some other mechanic, and let people explore and travel around without feeling like they’re being punished each time they want a change of scenery without waiting for half an hour while autorunning.
I think it’d be a good addition to the gem store to add a Claim Ticket weapon (fused, jade, aetherized, etc) Salvage Kit. Using this would destroy an existing ticket-purchased weapon, returning only the ticket and nothing else, allowing the owner to then purchase a different one (and sinking gems/crafting materials from the lost item in the process). As it stands right now, there’s simply nothing you can do if you have the ‘wrong’ Fused weapon, and the other skins are likely to suffer similar problems in the future, unless the methods of attainment remain permanently in game.
Magitech armor on female humans has a big area cut out to show the thighs. I thought we moved past this sexism. Isn’t this the reddit-friendly, socially-aware MMO?
The laurel vendors in the borderlands appear to be bugged. While they are charging laurels+badges of honor for the necklace, ring, and infusions tab, the accessories tab is still charging laurels+globs of ectoplasm. Please correct, thank you
I’m more annoyed by the fact that “town clothing” is useless. Come on, let us mix and match it with armor already and use it in combat. What happened to GW1’s costume slots and spectacles helmets?
I don’t think we’re ever going to know. It’s doubtful anyone wants to risk dumping a bunch of realmoney on a ticket now when they might not even be in the chests, and it seems the CMs have decided to stop replying to any threads about RNG or gem store items since their last clumsy debacle in the Fused weapon drop data rate thread.
The deadlines are there because they need you to keep playing the game. If every new bit of content remained around forever, you could easily tell yourself “maybe I’ll check it out in a few months, once there’s a nice backlog of things to see”. And then you might forget about the game entirely. But they need you playing. By making all these events so strictly time-limited, they force you to log in to see them. And if you log in, maybe you’ll buy gems. And maybe you’ll get your friends to come play, too. And maybe they’ll buy gems. And maybe they’ll bring in more friends, who will have to buy copies of the game, and maybe gems too.
It’s just business. Don’t have to like it, but it works, and it’s not going anywhere anytime soon. The whole “living story” thing is a little pretentious, though. Better MMOs than this one have done sequential, world-altering events long before GW2 was a twinkle in anyone’s eye.
And yet you pay for internet yes? :P
You don’t have to roll dice every morning to see if your ISP will let you use the service you paid for.
Got a Fused Weapon Claim Ticket sitting in my inventory, but haven’t decided which one to get yet. How long will the vendors remain after the Flame and Frost event ends? A CM response confirming they won’t become useless next week would be greatly appreciated, thank you.
“Hey ANet, would you consider selling the Fused weapon tickets in the store for 4500 gems?”
Why can’t the skins be for purchase in the gem store also? That’s what irks me. I would pay a higher price for the knowing I would get it than having to gamble.
Arenanet makes far, far more money exploiting peoples’ gambling tendencies than they would from the few people who would buy a skin outright.
Sooo, a tiny window to get in and see the new content on the one day when people might actually want to turn their computers off and do something else, huh…
Since this is an acknowledged bug, how about disabling that path until the fix is in place?
No thanks. If people want to rush in and get whomped because they didn’t listen to the advice from their betters, I say let ‘em. Besides, the TP runs over the web, it’s undoubtedly much easier to disable an item for sale on the fly than it is to muck with a dungeon’s dialogue and AI behavior.
Looking forward to the fix, though.
Adding my agreement. Path 1 is just ridiculous now. I have a feeling whoever made the changes got POed that people were trying to avoid the patrols and just decided to punish everyone by making it impossible.
Would be nice to hear my female warrior capable of saying “Urge to kill, RISING!” or “Eat my dust!”, for instance.
The very thought makes me want to pull my soundcard out and smash it to pieces.
