Dark Age of Camelot The first and still the best ever implementation of Realm vs Realm. Kind of sad no one can seem to come close after all these years.

What about a simple fix like giving us a reasonable way to gain badges that doesn’t involve mindlessly aoeing in a zerg trying to get as much loot tag credit as possible? There’s almost no incentive to roam solo or small since badge gain is entirely dependent on getting as many loot credits as possible. Give dolyaks and sentries a chance to drop a badge or two and maybe less people would be addicted to aoe gangbangs.
I was looking for something that would encourage more roaming other than the zerg. I don’t think a few badges from Dolyaks will help. Though it’s all pointless the game designers don’t get it and WvW is so flawed they would probably have to trash it and start all over. At least it’s still free so I come back every few weeks when I’m bored. Hope some thing good comes out before I’m to old to care anymore.
Zerging makes sense superior numbers win most of the time that’s just life. I see the problem as there is nothing that encourages spreading ones troops out to protect battlefield assets as one would have to in life to get benefit from them. Which leads to a take it and go on to the next keep or supply attitude. The remedies to this are many but here’s some thoughts. Take and encourage claiming keeps. Let guild’s really beef up there defenses and that guild should be informed when that keep is being attacked. Also give those guilds and everyone on the map more credit the longer that keep stays under there control. I would go so far as to suggest no credit for taking it or minimal with the real point boost for keeping it!! With this one act the zerg loses it’s momentum people will want to defend to get the tick bonuses. You might even have a hard time gathering a zerg but it will probably be necessary to take the keeps back from those whose interest is now in keeping them.
Well I’m almost exclusively WvW and a evening player and just could not wait the ques so was barred from the achievements maybe they should add waiting in ques as an achievement.
The saying to little to late comes to mind!
I read absolutely nothing that indicates you understand why WvW comes up so short. I also fear your dumb kitten mix it up with dumb rules idea. I guess you will give us a special WvW backpack and pat yourselves on the back as great innovators. We don’t want gimmicks in WvW we are not the pve crowd chasing the next bauble. We want the feeling of a war going on!! As is your battlegrounds are a loosely associated group of instances that have no effect on each other. If you don’t understand why that is bad than hire someone that does! Of course this all just scratches the surface of what needs to be done. Maybe some of your developers are to young but I would advise you to look at Dark Age of Camelot. To many of us old timers it’s Realm vs Realm (WvW) was the best conceived to date even though it is 10 years old. Put a new graphics engine on it and I’d be back there in a second.

Guess I may play less Mesmer by just not playing!
I think the Mesmer is unique in having many choices for effective builds. That leads people who bump into the many varieties of Mesmer thinking every Mesmer can do what every other Mesmer can. Which we can’t we each make choices in our builds which may make us seem over powered against one opponent and failing against another.
It seems allot of issues seem to be bandwidth problems. So do us a favor get rid of those things that do not add to WvW and free up some bandwidth if that’s what it takes. . If taking 50 quaggans, skrit, centaurs, skelk, what ever off the map will allow 50 more players it’s a no brainer do it. Also start talking your silence comes off as you don’t have a clue how to fix the issues. You have a user base that wants to be on your side and some are brilliant if you give them the facts of the situation they maybe able to suggest some ideas you have not considered.
@Johje-Holan-4607 Wow really these maps are to big they bring new meaning to the word lazy (just kidding). Ok well DAoC had a mechanic for that as long as you owned the string of keeps leading into your frontier some keeps allowed you to portal to them. Of course this added the challenge to break the chain of keeps and deprive the enemy of portal capabilities cutting down there response time. Which by the way forced you to coordinate attacks as a single zerg could not keep the world safe from invasion which spread out the combatants.
I don’t think the downed state is really the problem IMO. Rally is the problem get rid of it or change rally to a small set number of hit points per rally. So it will be nearly impossible for 1 death to rez an entire zerg.
Ques are a symptom of the second biggest problem with WvW. The actual problem is the ridiculously low participation caps. Personally I think Anet has made critical errors in the programming they will not be able to fix. I think to much has been sacrificed to make it a pretty game and we’ll just have to wait for the next one come on Elder Scrolls learn and conquer.
As a an old DAoC player I totally agree and have brought DAoC up myself a few times. That being said zergs existed in DAoC also unless you were from Hibernia we liked the term Frolic : ) . So zergs ARE NOT THE ISSUE. Yea zergs suck any time your grossly out manned it sucks. So ask yourself why is everyone blaming the zerg?? IMO it’s because the maps are way to small and the small group can’t help trip over the zerg and vice versa. First order of business double triple quadruple these maps and make them interesting. This will allow smaller combat patrol groups and assault teams to operate without a zerg being there in the blink of an eye. So see it’s not that zergs exist it’s that there always a stones throw away from your group large or small. I could go into all the cool things DAoC did with that but it would be too long a post. As I’ve said before Anet learn from your elders!
So you’ll then end up having players perm “scouting” (aka sitting there getting bored to death) in keeps and towers to announce enemy forces arriving.
Not that this doesn’t happen already…
I don’t mind the orange swords. They force you to play smart when dealing with larger groups and still allow to ninja stuff if you play it right. Removing them would make things too easy.
Might want to ask for the “iWin” button at the same time
I mentioned a solution from a ten year old game. Guilds claim keeps when the keep guards meet enemy they notify the guild the guild calls the realm to arms. No need to sit in a keep waiting because that is boring. This would encourage guilds to claim and creates another reason to communicate helping to build community.
Agree we should be relying on our server community to spread the word. Many of us old time players recognize Dark Age of Camelot (classic) as still the best Implementations of WvW to date even though it is over a decade old. If the graphic engine was over hauled I would still be playing, it’s that good. Here’s a few of it’s finer points.
No server cap yeah it got laggy but those battles were still epic. Anet need to work on this there has to be a better way than putting these low population caps on. Perhaps GW was made to pretty and they lost play ability because of it.
Guilds took keeps and would be notified if it was under attack or there guards encountered enemy troops. That guild would notify the community of the attack and we would meet the invasion. This was half the fun. Let loose the Frolic.
Large maps with keeps spread out areas designed for pve with the potential danger of pvp.
Full community involvement to open special dungeons like Darkness Falls. Pvers may not want to wvw but they were happy when the WvW players opened the Dungeon for them.
Underground paths to infiltrate enemy territory. Many an epic battle played in those caves.
It still amazes me that in over ten years no one has come close including Mythic to creating a WvW system as good as Dark Age. There is much to like about GW2 but it’s not going to keep people over the long run. Anet go learn from your elders.
As to zergs it’s called an Army they are a reality nothing stopping you from running in small groups. If you confront a zerg don’t expect 5 to take on 40 and win it’s not your fight. You should be taking points behind the lines which of course would be much more practical on a larger map.

I hear what your saying but that all goes with larger maps. Without larger maps you lack the space to implement those ideas. Especially with the pathetic WvW participation caps they need to spread the activity to a world like level. This way more people could be spread out fighting for resources like mines, forests, towns (food supply), special areas top tier dungeons. All of these would have a connection to the front line fight. We don’t have open world PvP so we need world sized maps. This would also be a way to join the pve and wvw players by each having an interest in the others success. There is so much that could be done and not enough room to cover all the possibilities here. If your short on ideas Anet send me an email. If someone is holding the development of WvW back get rid of him. Well designed WvW has one of the largest potentials for retaining your customers without it they will all leave for the next big thing.
