VoD is still bugged. my wife is trying to finish her story line and she cant interact with the cannons. i’m putting this up because…. well, its better if i do it. (this is the 2nd story line that has crashed on her in a week)

Are you and your wife still experiencing issues with the cannon interactions in Victory or Death? This was fixed a while ago and shouldn’t be happening.

yes, still bugged. this is the first time she has tried doing it since and i was in the party. she gets into the airship and nothing triggers at the cannons. she is quite frustrated at this point.

Guardian Difficulty?

guard has been my main since release and my favorite playstyle. the fact it is so versatile keeps it relevant in many settings and situations from pvp to raids and is a core part of the fractals meta team group.

for most pve, i currently run a DH build using 2 traps and Bane sig with FmW elite. the greatsword/LB are weapons of choice but i do have a mace/torch/focus set for specific situations. high survivability and potent burst damage (good sustained dmg with hammer) make guardians formidable in many situations.

as mentioned above, Aegis, Blind and dodges are the guardian’s bread and butter and can get you out of a ton of trouble if you use them properly.

if a F2F system could be implemented that would:
A- be non-intrusive to in-game chat
B- not create massive influx of complaints to service due to people unhappy with their trades for whatever reason
C- not ruin the economy (tax evasion)

A. they can do the same thing as in gw1 don’t want to be part of a specific chat uncheck the box. the policy in regards to lfg can remain in place to prevent abuse.
B. Its not someone else responsibility to ensure that your trade is a good deal – try to take ownership for yourself.
C. As you did to someone else….. WHAT?!!?!?!? outside big ticket items the tax has absolute minuscule impact on trades. good job on that econ phd

Your point isn’t really proven when the difference between to game chats is just merely your refusal to enable/disable a certain chat

currently,
i do not have to disable anything, i just open the trader window, search for what i want, buy the amount i need at the lowest available price over ALL servers and know that i have the best price available. if you didnt read about the tax as a gold sink, please go back. its kinda important.

OR,
i could toggle a trade chat option depending on whether i am trading or not, assuming i am, go from city to city to find the best possible offers (because no world chat, only map), keep track of who is offering what for what price and then try to contact them and start a negotiation session. from here i have to check and double check what i am being offered to make sure its not one of the 5% of times people try to scam, complete the offer. (this doesnt take into account that each world will start creating their own markets and soon you will find WTS/WTB chat in WvW to take advantages of price differences)

which do you think is easier, less time consuming and better for the GW2 world economy?

You completely are, it’s just that I like real arguments.
But I will give you argument about “it can bring unwanted effects”, all others I can’t take I’m sorry.

thats fine, not everyone will agree on everything. i feel as strongly about not having it as you do about having it.

what could be done, is to have a website like gwguru/trading post was for GW1. an offsite place where people like yourself could go and put things up for sale that wouldnt necessarily fit in the trader. ie: WTT Twilight for Sunrise or WTS leather, will take silk in exchange. this would allow people to voice their offers, be able to barter and still have a record of who they traded with and for what items. unfortunately, there is still an element of risk but, i agree that a majority of F2F trades are legitimate and with good intentions.

if a F2F system could be implemented that would:
A- be non-intrusive to in-game chat
B- not create massive influx of complaints to service due to people unhappy with their trades for whatever reason
C- not ruin the economy (tax evasion)
then i would be willing to entertain the idea.

feel free to bring up suggestions to how Anet could do this and you might get something come of it. too often people offer no solutions while complain about things they dont have. (not aimed at anyone, just a general observation)

It does not happen on forums but ingame. At that place and time. And there naming and calling out isn’t banned.

The real problem here is you. You don’t want it. There is no other argument you yet provided that has strong base I could agree upon with you.
It’s just that you don’t want so you are giving some reasons, but they all go against you cuz they aren’t reasons that makes any problem that isn’t already happening or has system in place to work against it

so if i wasnt there at the time and place it happened, how do i know not to trade with said shady character? once they are discovered, they will do as they did in GW1 and move to another city/region and continue their ways. there is no way to moderate this type of activity.

you are 100% right. i dont want it. and i have given multiple reasons as to why i dont want it. i feel that there are perfectly acceptable options available to make trades and i use whats there. i also feel that F2F would bring about it unwanted effects, whether intended or unintended.

am i not entitled to my opinion as you are to yours?

Btw, I write kitten down, it’s not curse word, but Anet likes kittens so I give them kittens, I’m provider Theeere you, I gave you a smile so you can better project my happiness and calmness. Do you feel better now?

Btw, we are dicussing face-to-face trading + trading post, not mail-to-mail. Why would you even bring that in discussion?

Don’t know for you, but spam chat happens all the time, w/e the content is, so you are free to disable it. There is also amazing thing people discovered for mmo players! More then one chat tab and window! Ain’t it great?
All your problems about it are already solved!

when kitten is used in chat, it represents censorship. if you arent angry why are you using censored language? it makes you sound angry even if you arent.

next, mail is mentioned because there are legitimate other options open to traders than the TP. person to person trades can be done using the mail system to address all your current worries. ie: negotiation, alternate currencies

lastly, i have NEVER had an issue with map spam. not once in the time i have played GW2 (since Alpha). there is no city in GW2 that would even come close to the levels of Spamadan. and yes ty, i was already aware of all the chat tabs and options available but i rarely have to disable chats because there are is nothing worthy of being disabled.

anger management maybe? wow.

to the topic,
you can still do the 1000G — 700G+??? trade, it just happens to be done by mail.
but how do you find these people that want to do that trade? thats the other side effect of F2F trading, the endless, annoying chat spam of traders looking for people to trade with.

i’m sure you can find trading sites out there with like-minded people that want F2F trading and haggling. feel free to explore that to scratch your negotiation itch. that style of trading has to be completed by mail though and the risk you take doing it is your own.

if you are so carefree of scams, then you shouldnt have any issue using the mail system and wont ask for Anet to create a completely unnecessary system.

[Request]Make Exp Modes account-bound

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Suicidal Hamster.4816

Story mode is attached to the character, not the account. It should stay that way since it is a way to get XP to level up your character. The same as WP’s and crafting. All tied to the character and not the account. Take all that away and you are left with very few ways to get as much XP to level a character and every one after the first will take wwwwaaaayyyyy longer to level.

but people dont run story mode as a specific way to level chars, there are way more efficient options to do that. dungeons are only unlocked at the appropriate char level as it is.

i would be in favor of account binding story modes as i dont see it being a game breaking change. it would simply make it easier. those people that constantly run dungeons over multiple alts wouldnt have to be forced to run a story line just to replace a class in the team.

mmmm I’d love to pk regardless if scam or not – would love to hear your cries. He is right though the lack of such things dulls the game. Its a game with zero risk.

BTW the majority of players ( prolly including a few of you) are still getting scammed even with the tp in place. Ive never kept track of the amount Ive made by putting up a trade substaintially below price and waiting for saps to underbid without checking, sad that I can’t /dance in their face afterward.

if the only excitement you find in this game is in the trading, this isnt the game for you. congrats on Anet for not making trading the most dangerous area of the game.

your “scam” as you call it, is small potatoes compared to the massive losses F2F trading poses. the few coins i could lose at the trading post by posting below average market price is nothing compared to you changing out a high value item for an icon identical trash item. so keep doing the /dance about the copper you “made” and others will be satisfied you didnt scam them out of handfuls of gold.

but please, keep defending an archaic and terrible system. there is NO chance Anet will go back to it. thats all there is to it.

At the cost of:

- disallowing two-way exchange between willing parties -> bad for the player

- disallowing spontaneous adoption of useful and common resources as alternative currencies for players who wish to trade in something other than gold -> bad for the player

- neglecting to further utilize a system that already exists that is superior in the aim of not allowing exchange -> bad for the player

- legitimizing the unbounded printing of new currency through no spent effort -> bad for the player

- binding all regulatory forces on the market to a single party that also directly profits from the regulations they put in place -> bad for the player

All you suvival of the fittest hacks need to get out more. This is a game with rules, just as society has rules.

This is not a matter of rules vs. no rules and also not an argument.

1- P2P trades can still happen, its called mail.
2- you are free to use any currency you like to trade. its called mail
3- TP>face to face for general public. other currency or trust trades can use mail.
4- “legitimizing the unbound printing of new currency through no spent effort” = LOL u wut m8?
5- much nonsense, so gibberish

your first 2 points were clear and the argument you were trying to convey was understood. then you went into try hard mode. instead of trying to talk like you have a PhD in economics and this is a column in the Wall Street Journal, lose the completely unnecessary law style gibberish and go back to what you did in points 1 and 2. trying to make people think you have point by trying to confuse them doesnt work.

people posting opinions and comments are as valid as providing an argument. or is it a rule of yours people can only post arguements?

also, i would be interested in knowing what you mean by limiting high quantity gold transfers you mentioned earlier. exactly how much and how often are you trying to move that you are being restricted?

TP is far and away the best system for general trading. its non-intrusive, easy to use and most importantly, FAIR FOR ALL. if you want/need to, you are always free to use the mail. people asking for P2P trading are clearly in the minority and i cant help but wonder why they fight so hard for an antiquated and risky method of trading.

1- wts/wtb would come back and be a huge annoyance
2- scamming, griefing. no explanation needed.
3- what you think would be easy to implement would mean a ton of reports sent to customer service about scammers. the 5 min implement would result in 100x more work extended over the life of the game.

no, just no.

personally, i love/hate dragonball. i dont do pvp in gw2 but the dragonball mechanics are on the right track and with a few tweaks could be really good. but, the frustration with the broken mechanics, lack of volunteer win and the time it takes to accumulate even 10 wins keeps me from playing.

suggestions:
-lower the time limit/score (even if this is the only fix, i could deal with everything else)
-bring in volunteer rewards and you lower the frustration of getting 10 wins
-minor tweaks to gameplay mechanics will speed up the progression

Wow. An event that is entirely optional and you don’t like it and don’t want to play it so you trying to tell people (“I Hate Dragon Ball (and you can too)”) that they too can jump on the hate bandwagon? Really??? If someone doesn’t like that just don’t play it, it’s the same exact as last year so why would it be different this year? Yearly holiday events hardly ever change in any MMO so again why would it be different this year or this MMO?

its called continual improvement. if an event doesnt work or has poor player feedback then why shouldnt it be fixed? yes, you can ignore the event and not do it. but thats not why Anet has put the event in. they dont add content for players to ignore them and its expected that if something isnt fun then it gets a second look at how it can be improved. its not out of line to expect this.

when people talk about the play how you want, well it still has to be within the spirit of the game that ANET HAS MADE. they have specifically designed the game to do away with healer/tank/dps specific classes. all classes can do a mix of all 3. no one asked what class the OP is trying to make a full healer. what if his main is an Ele? or a Thief? thief full healer in fractals or better yet, PvP. sounds great right?

what if i want to play as a monster and run around the open world attacking players trying to do content? thats how i want to play. should it be implemented? i want to play with proper mounts. Anet bring in mounts. the list goes on.

i am all for the “play how you like” style and asking Anet for things you would like to be implemented. but i should be able to disagree (politely) when i feel that the suggestion goes against the spirit of what was intended in game design.

i thought that was the point of the game play how you want , i dont see having specialized healer gear harming the game unless it was a full party running said gear in a time event boss or something but even then it would be player’s choice so im all up for this idea as long it is kept outside of pvp

funny how you support the “play how you want” idea in 1 breath and then say you dont want it in pvp or full partys in the next

Gemstore is what you get when your game is FREE TO PLAY instead of having a subscription fee of $20 a month. deal with it

It’s not free to play. Free to play would be no initial costs. My “initial” costs are 100 euros at the moment. Does that sound like “free” to you?

methinks your english grasp is not so good. its a godkitten free to play game. its free to play. playing it requires no ongoing money, unlike, say, world of warcraft. gw2 is free to play. would you like the game to be free to buy as well, and then have mandatory ads ingame and lock exotic and higher armor and weapons behind the gemstore? because anet could do that, you know. they have to make money somehow and since the kittening game is free to kittening play, and they are NOT getting billions of dollars a month in subscription fees, gemstore is how they do that. the only thing locked behind real money purchases is cosmetic items, there is nothing, literally nothing, that is required for actual gameplay or to become a harder hitting character that you cannot get for free ingame. everything gemstore is pretty kitten to make your character look a certain way, and its completely unneeded to be a good player, so i dont know what the hell your issue is, or anyone else who complains about cosmetic and arbitrary things costing money.

GW2 is NOT free to play (although Anet has added free to purchase accounts with certain game features disabled) it just doesnt have a subscription. by this standard, a ton of other games like Mass Effect, Call of Duty, Battlefield, Far Cry, Left 4 Dead, etc, etc, etc all fall under your F2P definition.

It would have been cool to get the Exalted glider for finishing one if the Mastery tracks (either Gliding or Exalted lore) and a glider for Wintersday.

dont open up all the skins, just a few to attain this way. an upgrade from the default glider skin for completing the entire gliding mastery is logical and a nice visual reward for the effort and time put into the line. there should still be other options in the gem store for those that are skin-o-holics or want a look other than the reward skin.

as for the rest of the weapon and armor skins, i think thats personsonal preference. yes, there are some skins in the gem store/black lion trader that i like and wouldnt mind getting but there are others available in game that are equally good.

if someone is hell-bent for saturday to get a black lion trader skin, then they can farm the 800 gold to exchange for gems or straight out purchase the outfit

guild halls and smaller guilds

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Suicidal Hamster.4816

Suicidal Hamster.4816

i am a bit disappointed about how smaller guilds are left adrift in the world of GW2. it seems content is being aimed more and more towards guilds of larger numbers.

i am co-leader of a very small guild. we are core players that came over from the original GW. we get along really well and enjoy each others’ company immensely and participate in all aspects of the game. but, because we prefer to be a group of 5-6 and not 40-50 we are at a disadvantage. specifically in the guild hall.

in order for our guild to enjoy the same benefits as other guilds 10 times our size, our members must do 10 times the work. this doesnt provide any incentive to be a small guild. our guild members dont want to be lost in a roster of people that dont know each other or even talk to each other. if Anet was truly commited to bringing people together and doing things as a group then the answer isnt to make bigger groups, its to make better groups. bigger does not always mean better.

if Anet can scale environment situations to the number of people participating, then why cant they scale the requirements/materials needed for the guild hall based on the roster size? i dont understand why people friends playing together should be penalized because they dont want to be part of a larger group?

this also applies to capturing a guild hall. there are tons of smaller guilds out there that cant even capture a guild hall, let alone worry about the massive amounts of materials required to fully build one.

i would be really interested in Anet’s thought process on this.

i personally dont understand requesting a higher healing stat variant. does the OP just want to sit at range and hope someone takes damage so he can heal them? or is the idea to just spam random heal skills and say he did his job?

What if i can avoid the majority of damage with dodges, reflects and my own skills and cover the rest with my heal ability? and in party situations shared buffs and boons provide sufficient secondary support to fill in what is missed. why would i look to take a traited healer vs the normal berserker when all it would do is take longer to complete the run due to a lack of DPS? not to mention PVE soloing with Healing/Vitality/Toughness would take forever to clear any mobs and would have 0 usefulness in Raids or Fractals.

I want to have as much healing as possible

Clerics currently provides “as much healing as possible”, still adds power to contribute to damage and is readily available. that should be sufficient.

Anet, you have made efforts to remove the Trinity. bringing in a stat set like this (Healing/Vitality/Toughness) would only serve to encourage those that are desperate to bring the trinity back.

as a guard main, i am quite comfortable to solo pve and like soloing champ bosses. the pve environment is easy mode for the most part with DH GS build. trash mob groups = FoF (trap)+GS4+GS2. for vets = PoB (trap)+GS4+GS2 and if i know i have a boss quality foe, i will add FMW and Spear of Justice. typically the formula trap+symbol+whirling takes care of 90% of my issues in under 2 sec and anything left can be dealt with without worry.

but, its all about options. ie: if the guild is gonna participate in Tequatl, no one cares what prof you bring. why? because your options are pretty much open due to the large amount of people required and your individual impact overall. guard? sure. thief? ok. level 60 ele? why not? but when you start talking end game content like high level fractals, raids and competitive pvp, this is where options start taking a toll on the guardian class because individual performance is of more consequence. of course, if there is no other choice, guardians are better than nothing. but what if you can bring a guard or an ele? or a revenant? or a condi engi? this is where the guard loses traction. ele has more dps, rev can sustain boons better and the engi can stack conditions better.

its not that the guard is terrible, its not. quite the contrary, its good at alot of things and thats why Anet has done little to adjust it. its the Deion Sanders of guild wars, it fills the niche of a solid all-around profession. the problem is, why bring an all-arounder when you can bring a specialist to fill a role? you dont.

the DH setup has brought a spark back to the guard profession and i certainly hope that the changes tomorrow dont ruin it.

sounds elitist to me imho.

aside from that, there is no chance Anet will implement a game check that would restrict access to game content, it goes against their mission statement.

at this very moment i am sitting on a rock, no one nearby, no events, and i cant swap out a gathering tool because i get the “in combat” message. ironically, at this same moment, my wife is in dead on the floor of auric basin and cant res to a WP because she, also, is “in combat”

i certainly hope this is a bug and not by design (to restrict players from swapping out skills more easily) because this is extremely annoying. my wife has to literally log out and log back in.

i havent played GW2 in over a year. this is my first time checking the site and forums in 6 months. i have no intention of updating the game and trying out the new content.

i played the original GW for more hours than i should have, had all the expansions and campaigns, made friends in the game and even had my wife play and have a ton of fun, especially in end game content areas like the Underworld and Fissure of Woe. (i even have a tattoo designed from the UW as it was my favorite part of the game and spent alot of time farming there)

Both the wife and I were super excited to play GW2 and see what the producers of such a great game that we both loved would bring us in the second iteration. With our pre-orders we got early access to the game and brought us a first taste of what was to come. we were both disappointed.

GW2 isnt really GW2. in fact, its not really Guild Wars. the differences in gameplay and style are so radically different that we ended up with a completely different game. While i did expect to see new and different content, i wasnt expecting to see a completely different game. all the things that I (and my wife) had come to love and find enjoyable in GW1 were nowhere to be seen in GW2.

I played for about a year learning and exploring the new game to see if i could get the same enjoyment out of it as i had gotten out of the original. sadly, it wasnt to be. while GW2 has its own things going for it, i have a hard time enjoying it. there are some things that are quite enjoyable but for the most part, its missing the hook that the original had. maybe its androgenous character types and play, maybe its the huge amount of grinding thats required for RNG to smile on you. i do know that waiting for other people to show up just so i could do my own storyline was a huge disappointment. i was also quite disappointed with the fact that i required other active players in order to do an event that i wanted to do and if they left after 1 try, i was forced to leave as well because i couldnt do it solo.

anyhoo, the rants and ramblings of an inactive player should be taken for what they are. i’m not back here to try and change the GW2 world, just sharing my thoughts. i will always have fond memories of playing GW1 and even after years later, the wife and i still bring up old GW1 jokes. as much as GW1 has made us smile and laugh, similarly, GW2 has made us quite sad.

the game is very young, its unreasonable to expect a perfect game at this stage considering what has been put into it. you will have to suffer with the rest of us while they iron out the bugs and release the fixes as they see fit. lets face it, some issues with the classes are well known but not high on the priority list. ie: the guardian greatsword skill #3, Leap of Faith which doesnt always execute properly has been bugged since beta

so yeah, selfish is expecting them to fix all your character’s deficiencies first time around. and, yes, you can expect to wait a month for the next patch, it gives them the time to gather information about multiple bugs, find solutions for them and roll them out in 1 comprehensive package. doing 1 class at a time is inefficient and would slow everything down.

I think a compromise of sorts would be to at least state they are working on certain areas. If they would make a weekly sticky to say “We are addressing X in the next patch” it would go a long way.

the only time a change is sure to be added is when the patch goes live, until then it can be removed a minute before patch. posting stuff that may or may not be added in the next patch would just create more headache for everyone, especially the devs if they have to remove a fix last min

Also saving up 5 pages of class changes is a bit much, I think if they would communicate more than just popping in the mist it would help a lot and address class changes a little quicker before it turns to 5 pages.

i think you are being a bit selfish on this one. class changes have traditionally almost always been done en masse so this style of patch isnt new to GW and doing 1 patch every couple of days for each class doesnt make sense as the ones that didnt get a patch would moan “why does the ranger get an update and my mes doesnt? come on Anet, how long are you gonna make me wait. blah blah whine whine”

again, telling people that their favorite class is going to be changed this way and that would create panic threads from people that dont even know the impact of what they are panicking about. everyone knows there are going to be continuous fixes and balances with the classes for a bit while Anet tweaks the game balance.

the history is to expect char class balances once a month with few exceptions. this is the patch for this month and it just happens to be a bit more healthy than some others.

love the change, makes it a ton easier when navigating some areas and i find that the camera “twitches” alot less around world objects.

thumbs up

i have been playing since beta with very little issue. its been very stable for me since release except for today. today i validate my email and now i am disconnected every 10 min. the game is unplayable in this state as i cant even finish my story instances, i get reset back to the start of them.

i am from Canada but i play on the EU servers with Vabbi as my homeworld. i expect a certain amount of latency and connection issues because of this but today i have been disconnected about 50 times without exaggeration. from release to today i might have been DC’d once before this.

the game is unplayable and i am a very unsatisfied customer at this point.
