Why is it a problem that someone makes a profit to begin with?
Indeed. On the plus side, the last time supply was this high and demand this low, the price of scales was 5s.
Another indicator that bots are out of the running for now. I’m just patiently waiting on the price to rise.
Theirs arent on the TP they are locked away on certain accounts. The ones on the TP belong to a small group of players who are friends with Anet I believe.
Lol…
I’m not sure what is going on with it right now. The supply is climbing fast. I guess people who speculated on it at 6s or 4s are cashing out now?
It looks like a run is starting on armored scales as well. They are being chewed through very quickly. 3800 at 678c just disappeared.
Well then it seems I invested in the wrong T6 mat (so far).
I invested about 120g in to armored scales about a month back when they were 8s. At the moment I’m sinking red. Maybe I should wait a month…
Don’t fret… I invested about 150g in armored scales at about 6s… If we hold on to them long enough we’ll atleast break even!
Will open world content become simultaneously more rewarding? A daily can be completed in about 20 to 30 minutes. After I finish my daily I’m waiting for the rest of my guild to log in to run dungeons because open world content is significantly less rewarding than the dungeons.
The decreasing supply and rising prices of armored scales could also indicate a bot ban wave. So far the scales are up 2 to 3 silver on average
Ok… so I’m assuming this is just a philosophical discussion here, and that you don’t really believe any of this, because it is a little ridiculous.
Having said that, and playing along; We don’t the dimensions of either our gold coins or the gold clusters/ingots. For all we know it could literally take 137 ingots to make 1 gold coin. However there is no centralized government, there is no central printing press, no regulatory authority; so it already is a barter system. A charr gold coin probably wouldn’t look like an asuran gold coin. And either way we are assuming that isn’t just a gold plated coin. Perhaps it is an orichalcum blank plated with gold.
The crafting component swings are great for trading. Buy low sell high. You have to watch the trend line though, because you can get burned.
Ty for being such a samaritan, but just be honest, you’re doing it for your own gain, don’t disguise it as some act of charity.
I never denied that Traders aren’t gaining anything out of it. Traders gain wealth by trading. But the process of that wealth gain is healthy for overall economic stability.

Good postBut your calculate is not correct
You spent 47g to buy was already caused 7g disappeared from the game
So the whole trading after that is 7g + 11g = 18g was destructedI’m doing that everyday too
Good point, I wasn’t considering the tax paid by the seller in the argument, I was only considering from the point of view of the trader.
If the “leverlers are leaving” argument holds true, perhaps crafting can actually be profitable for those who enjoy crafting for its own sake?
That would be awesome. I’d love to craft for a profit.
I Look for videos or post where someone talked about this way and found nothing, so I decided to upload the video.
Only one of us used meal and we had not cof’s potions so I think It could have been even easier.
The first time someone did that path probably had only blue/green items, now we usually go “near-full-exotics”, just give a chance
Thank you for uploading it, I’m tired of people thinking there is only one way to do things. Like the comment that this could only be done with a lot of heavy’s in the group. It has to do with player skill alone. Not class make up.
There are two things to look at when thinking about this: the trading post tax and price of goods.
The Tax, or Fighting Inflation
If you buy 10,000 of an item for 47 copper then you have invested a total of 47 gold. Later that day you sell the items for 75 copper, giving you a total of 75 gold. However 11.25 gold is permanently removed from the economy due to the trading post tax, leaving you with 63.75 gold or a total profit of 16.75 gold. If you do this on a daily basis for a week then 78.75 gold has been removed from the economy in just 1 week, how many repairs or way points would it take to fund that much raw destruction of gold?
Why is the prevention of inflation important? Because while you may have been playing since launch, new players that start will have to fight their way up a mountain of gold if inflation is not kept in check. Long term health of the game suffers in a scenario where gold inflation is rampant.
Keeping Prices Down
Continuing the above example of purchasing 10,000 of a single item, imagine two markets: One market has a trader actively participating, the other has no traders participating, both markets have the same volume.
In Market A the power trader is buying 10,000 Gizmos for 47 copper, the trader then re lists them at 75 copper. The end result is that the ceiling price of Gizmos are 75 copper, and there are 10,000 of these for sale to hold that upper limit, which really means that due to undercutting the price of Gizmos will fluctuate between about 65 copper and 75 copper for quite a while.
In Market B there is no power trader active, so 10,000 Widgets are purchased by 200 players for 47 copper. These widgets are destroyed due to consumption, crafting or whatever. Later that night players start buying form Sell orders, but with no trader active those 10,000 Widgets were destroyed, so that price of 75 copper continuously climbs as widgets are sold, where it stops nobody knows
In game example: Look at Scales. I started trading in the scale market about 2 weeks ago. When I started the price of scales was at 80 copper. I continuously brought the price down until it hit a point of 68 copper. Once I had the price stable at 68 copper another trader jumped in at placed a sell wall of about 20,000 scales at 67 copper. Once that sell wall was posted, the price of scales tanked. The end result? Scales are at 52 copper at the moment I believe. No traders: 75 to 80 copper. Traders: 52 copper
Notes
Market manipulation is something entirely different and I’m not covering that here, as it does harm the economy. I’m merely attempting to point out why trading is actually good for economy, and good for the long term health of the game.
Everyone has their crafts maxed which means these mats don’t serve a purpose anymore.
I have to disagree on this. I make gold off the TP from crafting at every tier. I do T2-T5 the most. T1 and T6 just don’t have as high profit margin.
Indeed, I made my first money crafting T3 rares and selling them. Maybe that is why I’m familiar with the T3 fine market.
Last night my guild group, with the following make up: Mesmer, Ele, Necro, Warrior, Guardian hit the DR cap with… drum roll… 1 hour to burn.
We weren’t speed running, we weren’t skipping, we even took our time between dungeons. We fooled around in Lion’s Arch selling, checking the trading post. Linking various weapons in guild chat to see what they looked like.
We did CoF Path 1 and 2, SE path 3 and HoTW butcher path. We wanted to keep going in HoTW, or CoE but due to the DR we had to stop early for the night.
Again, this was without skipping any mobs. In CoF Path 2 we actually killed all the mobs to protect Magg, we didn’t just train them around.
I can understand not wanting people to farm the same paths over and over, but we wanted to do different paths. We could have easily done 3 or 4 more paths, but our reward would have diminished so severely that it would be pointless.
Sigh, this is a great game, but some of the design decisions don’t make sense to me.
Ugh don’t get me started on Armored Scales! Long term investment indeed.
It looks like Bones are starting to recover, but Scales are still doing poorly. It is actually very interesting to watch the prices for T3 components.
No but there’s been a massive nerf to salvaging CoF gear. Good luck getting ectos.
When did this happen? Last night I had a terrible rate of return, 2 ectos for 8 token items. But prior to last night I had noticed nothing strange.
My guild group does that room easily with 1 mesmer, 1 ele, 1 necro, 1 glass canon warriora and 1 support warrior. We are usually ahead of the spawn.
The fine crafting materials for t3 seem to be crashing in value very fast tonight. Has anyone seen active bots in that tier?
I have purchased a ton of these tonight, and am not trying to inflate the value, I’m going to keep buying because they are basically lower than they have been since early december/late november. I’m just wondering why they are falling so rapidly
Arbitrage is not an exploit. You are merely buying items for what people are willing to sell them for, then selling them for what people are willing to buy them for.
You are not exploiting a bug, you are capitalizing on the market. You are not abusing any bugged game mechanics, which is what defines an exploit.

DR is completely ridiculous… Three nights in a row my guild group has hit the 45 token/diminished silver reward. We don’t skip mobs, we do full paths.
2 nights ago: 3 TA paths, 2 CoF Paths
1 night ago: 2 TA paths, 1 SE path (Path 3), 2 CoF Paths
Tonight: 2 TA paths, 2 CoF Paths, 1 AC Path
Each time we hit the dungeon DR. It is ridiculous that we are punished for doing whole dungeon runs.
Armored scales are back above 6s finally…. it will only be temporary though unless the bots get banned =\ Prices are probably rising due to people playing again after the holiday
If this is going to pick up any steam someone else is going to have to take up the reigns.
glad you agree evolverzilla but I think you are taking it a bit far XD
Evolverzilla is trolling you, it is what he does best.
People just have to stop thinking on old style MMOs.
In F2P and Subs mmo you have a steady source of incoming, so you can hire an equip just to enforce the anti-troll measures.
This game is a P2P without subscription, it need to work on the minimum possible. If they leave margin to people start the rage wave there will be more work without more people. To a system like this works it´s necessary to implement every type of anti system breaking, so they can use their resources to developement and fix.
They already have a team to enforce their community policies; and they do a very fine job. They keep the community clean.
And if you think there is not a continuous income stream for ANet from this game, then you are completely mistaken. The gem store provides plenty of income, people spent a ridiculous amount of money on black lion keys during the mad king event.
If there wasn’t a plethora of income then we wouldn’t be seeing as frequent updates, most game companies have a large amount of lay offs after release, ANet is actually HIRING.
If you have something legitimate to add then by all means do so. I understand that not everyone will like this idea. And if there is a legitimate complaint then I would like to hear it.
Being concerned about griefing isn’t valid because of the awesome community team, just report the greifers and they will be banned in short order.
Being concerned about nasty whispers isn’t valid because you can ignore people. And if these people were going to send you nasty whispers, just wait until you see the things they do to your dead body.
Actually, this idea could work to improve the community. We’ve seen the lengths ANet will go to ensure the safety of the players, and the enforcement of their rules.
From reports of banning due to inappropriate names and chat, I’m willing to bet that if this system went through, the idiots, griefers and trolls would be banned in short order.
All you would have to do is report them, and they receive the 72 hour ban. Therefore the only downside to this idea is that we would have a better community. I can live with that.
I approve of this message. WvW is fun, but it lacks the adrenaline rush of open world PvP. A huge part of this is that it really does feel like you are just fighting NPCs.
I have everything I need now, thank you everyone
