I cant wait to face the SOR side of the match up without the JQ side of SOR. It was really interesting to see the strategies of SOR’s JQ when they were alone in a 3 way fight. I would like the opportunity to see what SOR does without their JQ.

Stop with the zerg hate! A lot of us actually play WvW to fight in large scale combat. It is simple:

If you want to fight NPCs, do dungeons or PvE
If you want small scale PvP, do sPvP or tPvP
If you want large scale fights, do WvW.

There is something for everyone already.

I get tired of the minority of individuals that want things changed for their play style. “Zergs are not fun for me, make them stop so I can enjoy WvWvW more.” is an entitled mind set.

Large scale battles are the very basis of WORLD vs WORLD vs WORLD.

If you do not have enough people on your server to keep the enemy map zergs busy while you camp cap, move servers, maps or game modes.

Is that a guild treb? That’s pretty awesome, I haven’t seen any of those on JQ.

Please keep in mind that SoR wasn’t doing much before IRON came to your server with almost two full guilds, leavign SoR with an EU presence that can cover a 40+ man zergs on 3 different maps at the same time. Now I am not down playing any of you guys on SoR and congrats on this weeks win and last weeks win, I think it is much deserved for you guys. Although lets not forget it is only becuase of IRON you guys are in the position you are in. Any how grats on winning.

Props to IRON. Not to try and take anything away from them, but SoR was T1 for a reason before they came over. The issue is, we probably received one of the best EU guilds in the game, as well as already having some of the best NA guilds, and I guess that coverage and how well IRON fits with SoR just screwed over the other 2 servers. Hopefully BG/JQ get some other good EU servers, and we can have full coverage all around for all 3 servers.

An answer I think Anet made for this was the upcoming patch where it may be easier to drop and gain a tier. This will stop a lot of transfers, which affect the fluctuation of how un/covered you are. People may still transfer, but I doubt quite as frequently.

Sounds like Anet is trying to destablize servers to promote server hopping and profit$. Well played Anet.

Oh wait, Santum of Rall and Blackgate going Tier 2. Have fun down there guys. See you soon. lol.

1. Downed state

The more people you have in your Zerg, the better the odds of getting a rally or rez from Downed, assuming you have tapped a large number of people.

2. AC buff

The lack of line of sight with this siege and Anets failure to address the zoom hacks, has made clearing this cheep, small group wiping siege fall to the Treb. At 120 supply each that requires at least 12 people per and another 8 to build the field ACs to fend off the Zerg that is defending when they push out. Which they will once they realize their 15 ACs wont reach.

3. Supply trap

2 thieves can effectively keep a group of 20 at 0 supply no matter how many camps they flip. So the a fore mentioned number of personnel required to clear ACs needs to be doubled to begin to make a dent.

Traps mean you need a larger Zerg.

You need the larger group of people so that when the trap does go off and you loose 100 supply there are more than enough people who are unaffected so you can build the Trebs to take down the ACs to build the rams to take the gate down. The game has made it so you need 300+ supply to effectively start a siege on a tower or keep. (one superior Treb, enough for a second in case it gets taken down, and an AC to protect against the push out)

When you take into consideration that you now have to assume you will loose 200 supply that means approx. 50 people in your group. That is with resupply runs mid siege.

AC buff means you need a larger Zerg.

Trebs are the only realistic way to take down enough ACs to be able to take your group of 50+ into the tower or keep to take the rest down. (for any one who says it can be done with less…this is a defended tower) Those take quite a bit of supply.

Since Anet has so far failed to properly deal with the zoom hackers you will not be able to get all of the ACs and will need the extra people to be able to rush the remaining AC positions.

This has further pushed the game meta towards a need for a qued map full map zerg. (not including the 2nd accounts that your enemies will have on the map to track your commander tags)

I say this as an observation without judgement.

This has been my observation from a high population server with a lot of WvWvW focused activity. If it is any different on lower population servers please disregard and go back to playing the game differently.

Solution to the AC is to get a larger Zerg with more AOE heals…we get a 60 man Zerg together and ACs are not that bad.

Boost ACs and make giant Zergs more necessary unfortunately. I like a good 10 man team personally.

This is the first time I have seen actual competition in T1 for a long while. Everyone who says “X server is too stacked” or “Y server is dieing” are just trash talking imho. In a competitive environment (which i recall everyone asking for) you will win some and loose some. If you are from the full server of JQ and saying that the other servers are too stacked…loosing happens in competitive play. If you are from the other 2 saying that JQ is dieing…loosing happens in competitive play. Play the game, have fun and if you are not having fun go outside or read a book.

60v60? LOL, that must be some awesome lag and slideshow. On T4 we have plenty of 30v30 daily and is a nightmare, and my PC is on the bleeding edge.

Whats best is when you get both of the other servers map zergs into your Garrison to try to beat you out of it. Look left its one server pan 90 degrees right its the other server.

180 people all hitting 1 at the same time.

I wanna thank Anet for curing my WvW addiction with these arrow carts. Before the April 30th patch I would play WvW all the time. I’d hurry home to get back online, would check score updates obsessively, and had a blast. WvW was fun, epic and rewarding so it got addictive fast. Once the arrow carts came in with their insane damage WvW has been incredibly annoying and frustrating. I’ve been playing less and less until last night when I starting avoiding Gw2 altogether. Now I have more time for other games and my family. I’m getting more work done and I have Anet to thank. After this disastrous patch killed the meta game, I got my life back. Much appreciated.

Personally I think that there needs to be more realism in this video game. When you are fighting a world Dragon…you should be able to not believe in him/her and make him/her disappear…

Buffing an item damage by 80% while adding WXP AC traits combined with siege might on the cheapest siege item in the game when superior arrow carts with siege might were already very strong was crazy. Not giving any thought to how ACs are abused virtually every day with positioning and zoom hacks and ignoring the fact they melt any other siege was insane. Failing to address the issue ACs already have with being able to shoot through walls, stone ceilings and anything else in their way is simply lazy development.

At the very least the range extension needs to go to the very top of the WXP trait line, the damage buff from the patch needs to go down to more like 25% damage increase and they should have limited (very limited) damage against other siege. I would also prioritize making sure arrow carts work like projectiles should – if there is something blocking the path between the point of departure and the point of arrival then it should be blocked.

Lastly you want to adjust siege I’m all for it unless the game turns in to siege wars. Which it basically was tonight.

I guess we were somewhat lucky though tonight that people were bugged and siege kept disappearing otherwise it would have been even more boring (if such a thing is possible).

Only an idiot would rush a gate with rams or golems which has multiple arrow carts being manned.

QFT. Yesterday I was in an SoR rush to take Hills. 30+ golems. 5 arrow carts took almost all of them all down.

No one even bothered with the arrow carts. They just thought the golems were enough in number that they could bust down both gates before they all died. The element of surprise was also lost minutes before the attack. For the entire fight I was just facepalming my desk.

How do you face palm a desk?

I feel bad for the servers who were already outmaned.

Large population = a lot of supply = a lot of ACs = improbable for smaller populations to overcome.

We are starting to insta-build field ACs.

In conclusion Large Group + Broken Mechanics = More Dead Smaller Group

Be careful what you wish for.

Large groups are not zergs. Uncoordinated (or badly coordinated by a bad commander) large groups are zergs. In that sense, I haven’t seen any zergs lately, only large groups. Zergs get decimated which I’ve seen endless amounts of time since the patch.

This patch is not meant to stop large groups. It’s only meant to stop zergs, and from my perspective it’s quite effective at it.

Then by that definition I would say that the patch is a success. I have always taken Zerg to mean any group of 50 or more people on VOIP or not running over everything.

As for a well oiled machine of 50+ with another 20+ tagging along…what ever you call it imbalanced mechanics become more imbalanced with volume.

All of the people who love the changes as it gives an advantage to lower population servers/time zones, will see what happens when you loose ground early on and can not regain it due to the opposition having access to the same OP mechanics with superior numbers.

Arrow cart was fine, it does not need any damage buff, and i don’t think it will address the issue of zerging meta, instead, it replace the current zerg meta with a worse one: lazy bunker meta.

pre-patch:

The successful defense of any given structures in wvw relies on the synergy of 3 things:
siege users, defenders on the wall, and ground troops.

You need sieges like arrow cart to provide fire support and limited deterrence.
You need the mobility and other useful profession-related skills of the defenders on the wall. (ex. provide healing+ shield to the siege users, plus addtional AoEs)
You need the ground fources to be ready to move out the make a push.

You need ( or needed now with the new patch) these 3 thing to work co-operatively for a successful defense.

You could not defend a keep with a bunch of eles or rangers standing on wall, they will just get torn apart by all the Necro marks.

You could not defend a keep with sieges alone, they are static, and have slower firing rate.

You could not defend a keep with ground troop alone, with all that AoEs half of them would probably be dead when they exist the gate.

I think the synergy of these three is what makes wvw fun for a lot of us. I remember when i was playing with my ranger, i love standing on the wall and use my under-power longbow attacking those invaders. I know a lvl 5 noob with a arrow cart can probably do better than me when it comes to doing damage, and it’s very risky to stand on the wall when there are 10 eles casting meteors shower at me, nevertheless, it gives the battle a certain ‘flavor’ that can not be replaced by manning on a arrow cart and mashing 1,2,3.

This patch is gonna change that, i think.

Anet has buffed up the damage of arrow carts to the point that all you need to do is to have 5 people bunker down in your precious little keeps and use arrow carts to do all the work for you.

Ground troops? nope, no need to have actual face-to-face zerg clash, no more commander urging the pve militia to ‘stack. buff-up, we are making a push’, they will probably be acting solely as the ’ cleaning-up crews’ from now on: finishing those downed enemies and collecting bags.

Defenders on the wall? no need, arrow carts kill the enemies before you even need to heal the lvl 5 noob that’s been using arrow arts. No profession related skills are required, just mashing 1,2,3.

I know some people would say, ’ it kills zerg !.’ It’s stop people from pvdoor’, ‘it give defender a chance to defend’

First, you don’t want to replace a bad meta with a worse meta. Yes, zerging is bad, it’s stale, but bunker down in tower and let the arrow carts replacing the zerg is even a worse idea. I don’t see mashing 1,2,3, is any better than zerg vs zerg.

As for the pvdoor issue or giving defender a fighting chance when they are out-manned, well, of all the options Anet can do they picked the worst and imbalance, one. They could have make the gate stronger, or they could have make those guards npcs somewhat useful (we have a wvw trait line that specifically design for dealing with NPC, i mean seriously? they don’t go down fast enough?), or how about redesign out-manned buff completely? or find a better way to balance out server population and time zone issues?

if buffing up arrow cart’s is Anet’s attempt to address the wvw issues, then i am truly disappointed. I thought you guys were much more innovative than this…

People still play this game because it’s the only game out there that has ‘decent’ RvR (and now Anet is ruining it), they won’t hesitate to quit when there’s a better game, i think it’s a good thing Camelot Unchained is getting kickstart funded.

This is the new meta. Welcome to the opening week of Siege Wars 2!!!

We consider PvP to be too unbalanced and since our programing is uber complicated we decided to just tweak our siege numbers so you don’t have to bother with killing other players with your skills.

Everyone supply up, hop in your tower, don’t bother upgrading it since you want a choke point and wait for those bags to come to your AC range with your naked level 10 whatever.

So…we have tried more than one group on the map. The only way to counter ACs is to get your entire map into a GIANT ZERG BALL, set up siege, drain their paper tower and the people inside, wait for them to start to resupply, then SUPER ZERG, to take the tower. The boost to ACs, (especially when you are facing more than one) has caused out strat to change. Super zerg all in one place trebing down ACs, then over power what is left.

Super Zerg Ball with some treb wars is the new meta to take care of AC boost…lol at all the QQers who were anti Zerg.

Before AC’s were support damage and could take down siege over time. They needed a small buff in damage/range… but now they just blow up the area in a couple of seconds.

I thought destroying siege was the role for ballistas. Now there’s really no point in making rams or ballistas lol.

I like the upgrade to Arrowcarts…there are other ways to take a keep/tower other then using rams and pvping the door down…..this forces zergs to be more tactical….gives the true meaning to defending a tower/keep where (in history) it took 10 times the amount of people to attack a fortified position. 10 people could defend against 100……now 2-3 players can defend a tower against a zerg of 20-30….sounds absolutely reasonable

Those sieges lasted for 3-6 months. Ready to stay logged on for that?

Just cant wait till the “dumb Zerg” starts building ACs all over the place because they are wicked cheep and OP…and killing all of the QQers who were looking for balanced PvP.

Remember if 9 people with full supply can build 3 ACs, 60 people with full supply can build 20 ACs and camp your spawn.

I am sure that this is working as intended because no company would institute a patch with balance changes without first play testing it.

If they did the game would not last long and this one has been going for what…8 months. Clearly they have the MMO industry all figured out and are going to be the (game not mentioned) killer due to their unrelenting desire to see balanced game play and amazing reluctance to let the loudest voice on the forums dictate the changes they make to the game.

LoL is a good place to start if you want balanced PvP and a game where the Devs play the game instead of try to apease the QQers on the forums with little to no idea what their “fix” will break. I say the new game meta should be ACs surrounding spawns to farm them bags…get it coordinated on all maps and like a 5 man team to take the rest of the map…lol.

We’re actually considering doing this in VoTF. Camping the EB spawn on reset, AC’s on all 3 exits, lets see them tears!

Don’t consider it…do it. After all the QQers wanted this to get rid of Zergs not thinking that that may people with the same access to ACs in open field would make them easier targets.

They will obviously adjust it if need be. Their biggest clue will be is if they see the WvW population go down across the board. I noticed last night there were less people on the field, and there was also no que time.

I say give it a couple of weeks.. if this persists, I’m sure they will adjust it.

I doubt it since there will be more temptation to make micro transactions to transfer to gold for mats and ACs to keep an army of them on the field.

Money, money, money…nom nom nom.

He who has the largest Zerg with the most ACs will now be king…not just the largest Zerg.

2v1 only happens when you provide the path of least resistance. In a game where there are 3 factions trying to score points a good commander will find the fastest and easiest way to accomplish this. That is why you will hear about the 2v1 from every server. The solution would be to recruit to cover the vacancy you have in the NA now I would say.
