Hello. Just a few points about this topic.
1) I am indeed Italian.
2) I speak/write/read fluent English and never found any problems in playing games in English.
3) The repliers are right: Italian community isn’t big enough to justify a total (or partial, whatever) translation of the game and I don’t really think it’s growing that much, but it’s just my feeling.
4) As much as I would support the thing, fans can’t stay up-to-date with amateur translations with the ongoing amount of content ANet biweekly publishes. Who would keep on translating new content without being paid just for the sake of it?
5) I’m not into statistics and numbers but I don’t think that the cost of translating the entire game (a cost that DOES exist and it’s NOT a secondary issue, as lordkrall is trying to explain!) in a minor language like ours would really be repaid.
6) This game is not a very complex one and lacks profound narration: you could understand every personal-story cutscene without even reading a single line of text or listening to mediocre acting voices. It’s 95% about combat, but that’s not the point of this thread I reckon. ^^
7) The only part that I’d like to see translated in the game, though, are skill descriptions and tooltips. They (usually) don’t change with living-world content and may help an Italian non-English reader to have a better understanding of combat, which is 95% of the game and… again… ^^

Do try to learn some basic words like smash, hammer, destroy, burn, knockback, corruption and so on… you’ll enjoy the game at its best! ^^
Happy new year!

And a few words to my Italian mates: disponibile per tradurvi e spiegarvi qualsiasi parte del gioco vi sembri necessaria (davvero necessaria, però) in qualsiasi momento, purché la impariate e memorizziate così da non doverla tradurre tutte le volte (e farmi fare lavoro doppio). Il mio nick in-game è di fianco!

Hi, welcome to the game.
I don’t know what kind of necro you’re playing but with marks and wells you CAN contribute a lot, not necessarly by healing but with effects that debuff foes (well of darkness, well of corruption, well of suffering) and somehow buff allies (well of blood, well of power, mark of blood, putrid mark).
Regarding your problem: since you like “DPS” and “tanking” and “leading”, “helping a not so good group” and “being important”, probably a Guardian covers them all, possibly with (AoE) shouts and some damage prevention. But if you need to test your skill as a MMO player, you can basically do the same things with an Engi (I’m totally not competent with Engi, so you better check their forums).
Hope to have clarified a bit :-)
Best regards

A personal note: don’t give up the necro pleeeeease… it’s such an interesting and underextimated profession… pleeeeease… it’s way better than every other class! Yay! (OK, now I’m joking, but still…)

I don’t think the devs are going to implement that feature, for reasons to me unknown: in the meantime you can use the mail. It’s not as quick, but works the same.

Here’s why:

To prevent the number of people going: So and so scammed me! He said he was going to give me X item for Y gold. But he sent me Z item which is no where near X item quality or worth.

And they already HAVE a system for trading from one player to another. It’s called the Trading Post. The taxes on it are a gold sink to remove gold from the economy to try to keep inflation going as slow as they possibly can.

Use mail at your own risk. There are scammers out there. Do not give people more than you are willing to give away because you might not get what you were promised in return.

Cool, I’ve never thought about that in this way.
Best regards

What I mean is people should be calling them UP and FW since there’s no alternate path in the FW part it’d just easier to call them Up and FW.

True enough

Fast paced ranged attacks? Ranger > Shortbow
Quite good in PvP, IF you know how to play with conditions. Don’t have experience with it in WvW, though, so I can’t tell… But it’s a bit squishy if I understand what that exactly means.
Necro, as ozmaniandevil suggested, is a good alternative: not fast as ranger, though (with the dagger being the fastest weapon, but with melee/600/600 range). It has, indeed, recently changed and in PvP has become weaker and hardly viable (for a lot of own debuffs and other’s buffs that I’m not going to discuss here). Necros in WvW are quite useful, imo, expecially when dropping unblockable marks and wells in a gate-bursting crowd ^^)
As for the requisite of “having fun”, well, that is only up to you and can honestly happen with every profession and every build.
Best regards

Can someone explain this frost bow obsession?

As for these frost bow AA spammers…. they’re just noobs. FB is good for 1 thing, and 1 thing only: 4 attack, usually used only once and then dropped, except for certain parts of AC.

I agree with that and I’m a big fan of your guides (which I follow on another ele), but why call “noob” someone who still tries to be a good healer in a game where the system discourages it? Icebow AA is far better that my main water AA on staff, even if it’s temporary: just saying that as it seems it is the most powerful/fast direct healing in the game (to my knowledge, actually: if there’s something else, please tell)

Best regards and merry xmas!

The icestorm is crazy! Seems to crit everytime (but maybe it’s luck), good AoE, bleeding… add a poison cloud and a ethereal field and you’re done
And, yes, you may not notice since no one does a healing power char, but on my elementalist the auto-attack is the best heal I have (1000+ AoE, fast as hell!)

I hate it when people refer to the paths as UP/UP or FW/FW. >.<

Yeah, but before we have to standardize the path numbers, because P1 is Aetherblade for someone and UP for someone else… T_T

Warrior – ???? (something could be added here)
Except for the warriors, every class already has followers.

Oh, no, no, no… oh, God, please NO!!

More seriously, considering the very poor AI this game is cursed with, I wouldn’t want a permanent follower.

Some of your ideas are cool, some even balanced (just some… chill? Nah… ^^)! Do you really think that would be possible, though? It’d mean a brand new system, with changes to toooooo many traits and skills related to conditions! It’s simply not going to happen in a game/PvP like this!

I’m honestly new to PvP in this game, but I’m currently playing a healing Guardian. I know that is not that good and many want to lynch me already, but it’s a fun build to play. He’s no bunker but has a nice survivability on his own and gives a large amount of boons and health to allies. “Stand your ground!” is a must have with all the CC a PvP melee orgy can pop out (can be swapped with “Hallowed Ground” in a more static situation; “Purging flames”, for the same reason, cures 3 conditions AoE; “Contemplation of purity” has to be used at the right time but it’s a life-saver (even with long CD); the elite skill is not that useful but can change the result of a mass combat at a capture point with its 4 and 5 skill. The weapons are just “healing” weapons, with the staff being a little more useful and the mace doing a little more damage (and possibly spreading protection on the party).
The traits are all built towards altruism, with Battle presence and Absolute Resolution being the best for party support (I don’t know the max number of target for Battle Presence, but even if it’s the typical 5 its’ still a cool regen!).

Answering your post: dealing with multiple enemies is a pain in the kitten and this build HAS to be surrounded/accompanied by allies or he will fall (not easily, not at all… but eventually). Conditions can be countered quite easily unless you burn up your flames (-X% condition duration to be noticed) or meditation as soon as a smart necro uses signet of spite. About the weapons I’m not really an expert of other Guardian builds: I tried the sword+torch that is surely more DPS oriented but it just doesn’t fit my way to play (as does basically the whole GW2 system! lol), Hammer is cool for controlling but should have some rework imo, GS is for blunt people… ehm, zerks!

Retreat! vs. Hold the Line!

Yep! “Hold the line” is better, but you could change to “Retreat!” when there’s a long rush run, like in a dungeon, because swiftness stacks on duration and that shout gives a very long AoE swiftness.

Is crafting worth it?

Tetriandoch.6145

Crafting is nice: it levels your char too, you can make and sell some items that are quite worthy on the market (provided you already have some of the mats required to decrease your own cost), you can have all professions (with a small cost in order to swap through them) and most importantly you can look cool with higher tiers stuff!
The catch is that there are tons of alternative ways to acquire higher tiers stuff, mostly tokens from dungeons or WvW or Fractals: they require more time of course, but crafting requires more gold…. It’s up to you.
I don’t particularly like to use it, since I’m not a very hc gamer, but with the recent release of new gear, I’m giving it a second look…
Enjoy your time in GW2!
