I just wanted to let the devs know I heard the redone Bazaar of the Four Winds theme featured in the season 2 trailer, sounds fantastic and I am super excited to hear the rest of the music recorded for season 2! I am surprised you guys decided to go with a real orchestra, but am so glad you did.
I love it!

When will we see dueling?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

The Outsider.8630

Yes please, dueling allowed everywhere in PvE.

For those who seem to be against this, add the option to opt out of duel functionality entirely, like can’t even be asked to a duel. When you click on a player it should have a tiny icon of a sword or something next to their name at the top of the screen indicating they are available to duel. You right click their name and click Challenge to Duel, in which they must either accept or deny your challenge.

It’s based on invitation, no griefing there, no problem. I’m an RPer and even I want this change because i want to be able to RP sparring with my guild mates or even be able to fight when an actual IC fight breaks out while RPing.

Reasons not to zerg WvW

in WvW

Posted by: The Outsider.8630

The Outsider.8630

Hey guys, I see a lot of people hating on the zerg in the forums. Personally I don’t mind it but I do feel like the game could be a lot more compelling (talking about WvW mostly) if there were reasons NOT to zerg. So there would be more incentive to have smaller groups running around in addition to a zerg. I repeat, I do not want to kill the zerg, just give added incentive to have a bunch of smaller groups running around.

There’s something I’ve been thinking about that I’m sure comes with a long list of issues that you all will immediately point out, but this is all conjecture, and I hope that with your added opinions and ideas maybe we can come up with a new gameplay mechanic the devs might like. Lets get creative!

My current idea:
What if, say you were in a group of X amount of allies, the numbers aren’t important here and I’m just using them to explain my idea, numbers would change for balance. For this example lets say 40 or more. Say the 40 of you were all within X range of each other, a big, big range, think like a regular ground targeted AoE skill circle but larger, like upgraded warbanner range. Pretend 40 or more players are together close enough that they would all be within that circle. They would all receive a debuff called “cramped” or something along those lines. this debuff could do something like drain your endurance, or something else that otherwise would weaken the zerg. maybe you take a lot more damage from siege weaponry while in a zerg. essentially making siege the anti zerg. Not sure what the best debuff would be but, it shouldn’t DESTROY zergs, but be enough to make players want to have a lot of smaller groups in addition to their main zerg.

Any thoughts on this? Perhaps a different debuff, or another approach all together?

My thoughts? Leave WvW alone for people who like that game mode and focus more on small scale fights in EotM. It’s the whole reason they are making EotM. No need to bork up WvW because people are impatient.

You make a good point! This is the type of thing that should definitely be first tested internally, then if it seems to be working try rolling out with EotM. See if it enhances the experience or if its a terrible idea (which it may very well be!) before even considering messing around with the existing maps

Guild Leader and officer Titles

I don’t mind this idea, and honestly if you see a player who is the guild leader of some unrecognizable one man guild, there would be no showing off because players who see it would be. alright this guys the guild leader of… (insert random unrecgonized guild name here) Cool, that means nothing to me. But if you saw the guild leader for a big name then ya you’d be like o wow!. I guess another thing they could do is make it an unlock for a guild, so one man guilds cant get it.

Reasons not to zerg WvW

I think that if your defending a keep you wouldn’t be susceptible, but another great side effect if siege is made more powerful against zergs is this would cause parties to create multiple points of entry to an enemy outpost. You wouldn’t be able to send everyone to attack the front door because siege would kill you, instead you would need to use catapults for walls, while you ram the doors so they cant focus fire on one spot. Might even encourage defenders to build more than just arrow carts, like catapults to fight off other catas and ranged attacks, and no harm done when a smaller group attacks because they aren’t affected by the debuff. Feels like the battles would be more epic, and spread out

New Year's Wish List - suggestions to improve

Nice list! I agree with everything but I’m hesitant to agree on the suggestion to make Ascendeds have the ability to change stats. Only because that gives Legendarys actual value, there’s a reason for getting one that’s beyond aesthetics and it doesn’t involve higher stats. I think its a brilliant design. I know little about Ascended and it hasn’t been out long enough for me to make a good suggestion with what to do. I hear you about the grind it would take to gear out your character in ascended and I am an altaholic myself. I’m sure that once the initial rush of people who NEED ASCENDED RIGHT NOW passes the Ascended armor will be easier to get but still probably not easy enough for us altaholics. Hmmm. Not sure what to do here!

No sound during tower collapsing cinematic

The Outsider.8630

A week or so ago I noticed something similar that might be related to your issue this was for a different cinematic.. I guess it would have been the new Fractals cinematic when they added that patch but I honestly don’t remember. I have 2 sound cards, one goes to my PC speakers and the other sends all the audio to my sound system where my TV is. Typically you just pick which sound card through the Guild Wars 2 options and it will use that sound card for everything but during this cinematic what happened was I was getting the dialogue coming through one card, and the rest of the sound going through my other. Do you have more than one sound card?

I get so nostalgic thinking about the Factions sound track when I think about the music of Guild Wars. There are great tracks in GW2 and the other installments of GW1 but I feel like Factions overall had some of the best music in the franchise, and it fit so well with the visuals in the game. Really makes me want a Cantha expansion for GW2, revisit some old areas with some of the old music playing there and of course all new music for the Canthan continent as well!

I didn’t intend for this to turn into a GIVE US A CANTHAN Expansion thread but just was curious who else really enjoyed the Factions soundtrack and misses it. Anyone?

Try picking up a can of compressed air and just blowing the vents in your laptop, dust can clog those airways and I’ve seen this happen multiple times. The PC gets very hot and slow. Hope that’s all it is.

Performance issue with V-Sync

Yeah its not any adaptive vsync setting or anything like that I did play with those, its not a huge deal anyway. Just wanted to bring this to the attention of the devs and see if anyone else has been having this issue or has a workaround.

Performance issue with V-Sync

in Account & Technical Support

The Outsider.8630

I’ve come across a rather odd issue regarding v-sync. I recently deployed Windows 8 on my PC. Now when in Guild Wars 2. My FPS seems to be capped to 32FPS exactly, no matter what I do. Unless I turn ON Vsync, yes ON. Not off. I get 60fps with it on. Obviously the game should not be behaving this way. I think it may have something to do with Windows 8 or drivers for Windows 8, but not sure.

I use an Nvidia 580GTX and I’ve tried the newest Beta driver, and the newest stable driver releases. Interestingly enough, I did a reinstall of the direct X libraries while I was troubleshooting the issue, and it seemed to resolve my issue for awhile, but the next day it was back, and reinstalling the direct x again did nothing this time.

I’ve played with all the settings in my Nvidia driver control panel, forced vsync off and on too it still is stuck at 32 fps. Just want Anet to be aware of this issue. Not even sure its anything they can fix. Might be Nvidia’s problem. In my troubleshooting I’ve also deleted the GW2 local.dat file inside documents which keeps track of your graphics settings etc. This made no difference.

Attached is a screenshot of the FPS counter with vsync being toggled on and off, inside a controlled environment. The character select screen.

Anyone else running across this issue?
