Great changes! They’re not the changes I was hoping for, but I still like what we’re getting. I hope a lot of other players feel at least as happy about these changes as I do.

Thank you Anet for continuing the great work and effort. Even if some players aren’t satisfied, the efforts to listen to the community and work as best as possible with us is deeply appreciated.

Cheesy GW2 jokes here!

BWE 3 Guardian Feedback (Core/DH)

-Longbow is feeling good this BWE
-Shield of Courage feels very satisfying to use
-Wings of Resolve feels much better than last BWE.

Defender’s Dogma Criticism
Defender’s Dogma trait does not feel useful. Given how frequently the justice passive goes off, especially when hitting multiple targets and/or using Supreme Justice, the extra procs of Defender’s Dogma are not noticeable. This is made even more apparent when you compare the frequency of procs to the infrequency of blocks in the majority of cases. The number crunching may or may not suggest it adds sufficient damage, but the player never FEELS like that is the case. Furthermore, using Spear of Justice actively makes this trait feel even more limited. The trait just feels like a waste.

Defender’s Dogma Suggestion 1
Cause cripple on block. There’s a lot of synergy that DH gets when a foe is crippled, and the effect can be immediately noticeable for the player. There would be visible synergy with skills such as mace #3 or Retreat. It would FEEL satisfying while also providing a useful benefit when traited to take advantage of cripple.

Defender’s Dogma Suggestion 2
Or change Defender’s Dogma to feel more active in some way. Lower remaining cooldown on a Virtue when blocking an attack, perhaps? There should be a visible benefit from this trait.

Pure of Sight Criticism
Pure of Sight trait feels restrictive. The damage bonus is really nice, but the trait discourages the player from using anything but longbow and perhaps scepter, and does not facilitate a skirmisher playstyle in a fun way for players that still enjoy using the other weapons of a Guardian, such a greatsword. Most Guardian weapons are melee or encourage close combat. Even traiting Wings of Resolve to deliver an attack seems counterintuitive when you lose the damage bonus of Pure of Sight.

Pure of Sight Suggestion 1
I’m under the impression that the DH is supposed to have a skirmisher hit-and-run sort of feel. Put in a trait that gives a damage bonus while the DH is above a certain threshold. It encourages and rewards players for being in range or at least remain safe. Going into melee remains an option, but a trait like this would discourage the DH from being in the danger zone for too long, or risk losing the damage bonus.

Pure of Sight Suggestion 2
Grant fury/might when hitting something from beyond a ranged threshold with an internal cooldown on this trait. A DH can hit something from range to get fury/might, then jump into melee or close range for a burst of damage, only to try to move away again once the internal cooldown is over. It would help facilitate a skirmisher feel, or encourage ranged play, without punishing melee combat.

Beta Bug - Hunter's Fortification not working

Dragonhunter grandmaster trait Hunter’s Fortification says it remove conditions when blocking attacks. It doesn’t seem to be doing that. I’ve tried blocking with Aegis buffs, mace#3, Shield of Courage, and Shelter. I’ve tried removing bleeds, vulnerabilities, and poison inflicted by the Arid Devourers in the starting beta zone. Blocking with Hunter’s Fortification traited has not removed any of these conditions.

A trait idea, preferably one to replace the minor grandmaster Pure of Sight:
-Damage increased by 3% for each virtue that is currently being recharged.

It encourages the player to use the actives of their virtues, which is the defining part of the Degraonhunter, without making the player feel like they’re being overly punished by losing the passive effects. It rewards a more offensive and active playstyle. Players still have plenty of incentive to keep their virtue passives running because some players will want to time them for specific moments, especially Virtue of Resolve and Virtue of Courage.

Unlike Pure of Sight, a trait like this would be useful for melee. A trait like this would reward and reinforce the DH active virtues playstyle.

This is the worst PVE event ever for GW2

The time schedule for the invasions are terrible. I work retail so I have to work Thursday through Sunday. This is going to make it extremely hard for me to get enough blooms to get one of those selfless potion rewards. Not to mention that my client crashed a few minutes before the end of one invasion and I lost the entire reward….

Limited free time on the single weekend this invasion is going, and an hour of my progress and time waiting for and doing the event lost because of a three minute client crash? Even if I hadn’t crashed, I would have gotten, like… 20 blooms? And I need to get 450 for the selfless potion, not to mention any other skins and rewards I may want? Bleh… If I were a casual gamer, I would be crying. Oh wait, I am a casual gamer…. Q.Q

Defender’s Dogma doesn’t cause the virtue of justice to charge if Spear of Justice is on cooldown. This trait discourages you from using the Spear of Justice, which is kind of the point of the Dragonhunter, right?

Also, this trait loses a lot of value if you spec into Virtue and take Supreme Justice. Not much synergy going on since Supreme Justice is going to do a superior job of keeping burn on your foes without having to block anyway.

Defender's Dogma - Why?

From what I can tell, if Spear of Justice is on cooldown, blocking doesn’t charge the virtue. You won’t do any burning. If the point of the spec is to actively USE Spear of Justice, why give us a minor trait that does NOT work while it’s on cooldown? Is this a bug? Am I using it wrong?

Also, this trait loses a lot of value if you spec into Virtue and take Supreme Justice. Not much synergy going on since Supreme Justice is going to do a superior job of keeping burn on your foes without having to block anyway.

I mentioned in another post as well that Inspired Boon from the Virtues line is not granting Might when activating Spear of Justice.

Spear of Justice is not granting the stacks of Might from Inspired Virtue from the virtue’s line..

The DH still makes me feel I’m restricted to using longbow and longbow only. The Pure of Sight minor grandmaster trait leaves weapon-swap options rather limited. Overall the talent options are just clunky. Feels like there is little synergy within the spec and with any other spec and weapon choice.

DH and Virtues spec incompatibility

in Guardian

Posted by: TheBizi.6578

TheBizi.6578

The Dragonhunter active virtues do not trigger the boons granted by the minor adept trait Inspired Virtue from the Virtues spec line. There is a compelling reason to take Virtues to complement Dragonhunter for the faster virtue recharge, but the incompatibility of the Inspired Virtue and Virtuous Actions is counterproductive.

Edit: Correction – Specifically, Using Spear of Justice is not granting the 3 stacks of Might from Inspired Virtue.

I’m not a fan of enrage timers for the reasons stated above. I don’t run full zerker gear and it’s rather intimidating to look in the LFG and see groups that say ‘Zerker only’ or something along those lines. It seems likely that groups gathering for raids will have even higher standards and expectations of the players that join them. Enrage timers give another reason for players to demand that other players stick to a specific meta.

Anet could offer me a full refund on the price I paid for this game when it came out and I still wouldn’t take it.

I don’t care if it’s partially f2p now. It was money well spent and would happily contribute to its success all over again.

A Criticism of the Pure of Sight trait

in Guardian

Posted by: TheBizi.6578

TheBizi.6578

Even if we consider Zeal to be restrictive, that is NOT a reason to ALSO make Dragonhunter restrictive.

Four Guardian weapons, five if you include the longbow, are designed to use symbols. Only two guardian weapons, including the longbow, are designed to use Pure of Sight.

Hammer and staff both have attacks with long enough range, but the auto-attacks from these weapons are lower than the Pure of Sight threshold. It is clear that with both of these weapons, the guardian is expected to be within range 600 of their target. Therefore, I argue Pure of Sight is not designed to work with these, and the only two viable options to put the trait to use are scepter and longbow.

Focus and Torch have some ranged attacks, but I’m focusing on main hands for this argument because the main hand weapon is what will determine if you are in melee or in range. It doesn’t matter that Torch 4B is ranged if you’re using sword/torch and are in melee.

A Criticism of the Pure of Sight trait

in Guardian

TheBizi.6578

Same goes for Zeal master and GM minors if you use sword/scepter while the adept rewards playing poorly and punishes people for hitting a bad guard.

The Dragonhunter line is an elite spec that is meant to provide a new way of experiencing the Guardian in a way that Zeal line, along with all the other core lines, do not: the new ways to activate the virtues. If a player wants to experience this new way of using virtues, though, the elite spec also strongly encourages you also fall into the longbow by making Pure of Sight a non-optional minor trait. This comes at the cost of a trait that could be useful to weapon sets other than longbow.

Most Guardian weapon sets are melee focused. Even most of the focus and torch offhand skills encourage close-combat for full effect. Therefore, the only Guardian that the non-optional trait Pure of Sight can reliably help is strictly a Guardian that uses longbow.

Scepter can maintain damage at the range threshold, but it has no knockback nor a consistent cripple. Only longbow can be traited for a knockback. The Guardian also has no escape skills to increase the distance between a foe.

Many players want to try out and use the new virtue manifestations. Many of those players do not want to feel forced into using longbow.

A Criticism of the Pure of Sight trait

in Guardian

Posted by: TheBizi.6578

TheBizi.6578

‘Pure of Sight,’ the Dragonhunter minor grandmaster trait, is restrictive.

The range threshold on Pure of Sight means the only weapons that will frequently benefit are the longbow and the scepter. This greatly limits the usefulness of weapon-swapping. Once you switch to a melee weapon, or if you want the Dragonhunter virtues but use melee most of the time, this minor trait will not provide much benefit. Alternatively, you can have longbow in one weapon set and scepter in your other set, but this dilutes some of the versatility weapon-swapping normally provides since scepter and longbow fulfill similar purposes.

The minor trait is not a choice. You HAVE to have it if you select the Dragonhunter spec. This discourages players from using this spec unless they intend to use longbow/scepter most of the time without weapon-swapping. Any players who want a melee focused build with the new virtue activations are forced to make an major tradeoff.

Consider the minor traits given to other elite specs. The Berseker spec for warriors, for example, seems viable for any weapon selection. It doesn’t matter what weapon you’re using, swap to, or what stat you’re built for. Going into primal rage will give you a benefit, and your minor GM trait will, in turn, be useful. Other specs and their respective traits have comparable versatility.
