I had the same problem. Tried this:
https://help.guildwars2.com/entries/93290408-Problems-Downloading-or-Patching
I tried the second step and used 194 ip (one in example didn’t work for me) and now it’s updating.
hope it helps you guys

That’s what I did, the one in the example did get it updating, but very slowly. Better than nothing though I guess.

Farming in Orr

TheRyftLord.5820

LOLOLOL. Because the devs intended people to fail events when they designed the DE system right? Ye. There used to be an Orr farm like this 9-10 months ago where people purposely failed an event south of meddlers waypoint. The devs fixed that event specifically for the reason that players were failing it to get huge amounts of loot. I remember those days, I remember trolling that event so hard to purposely make it succeed since thats the way its actually supposed to be done.

Acknowleges that he trolls for the sole purpose of kittening people off. GG.

Plus DR kicks in after two hours so where’s the issue ? Are you mad that people actually make money in this game and not you ? Stop that.

And for Vayne, this isn’t a bannable offense to fail the event. The only thing that’s wrong is ANet in not having a longer queue for the event restart, thus making it farmable.

Its exploitative, thats all that needs to be said. This happened before in the game once, and was patched. It will again. Just admit what you are doing it wrong. Tell me with a straight face that events were meant to be failed on purpose repeatedly?

I wouldn’t say events were meant to be failed, but they’ve often been designed with failure being an option since a number of events result in a different chain of events with failure.

In this particularly case though, I’d say the biggest fail is a design fail in that if the rewards are that significant rather than completing the chain of events, the reward system in game is not where it should be. Same with the SoE champ farm, it’s more rewarding to kill the three champ golems over and over than it is to actually completely the path.

Do I need to find quotes for you people to prove its not intended by the devs? People are trying to maneuver their way out of the fact that its exploitative lol. It doesn’t mean you will get banned, people didn’t before with the old event farm that theyd fail intentionally
.

Why would I get banned? I haven’t set foot in Orr for over a year now….

I disagree with it being an exploit, granted I have slightly more faith in the dev team than for them to have made a giant over sight about their event chains and mechanisms that have been in place and played for two years now…..if it is an over sight though I feel less secure about this game, two years is a long time to miss something that’s pretty obvious….

Okay well dont call it an exploit but let me show you a video of a dev specifically saying they dont want what you are doing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jy7CcwnfUdU 25:00, start there. lol there you go.

I think the important thing to note is the major reason why don’t like this sort of thing. It has a tendency to harbor a caustic atmosphere. Someone who is either trying to do the event to completion or doesn’t understand the instructions on how to make the farming method work ends up getting yelled at or cussed out. Can you really blame them for trying discourage this?

Also consider that PvP isn’t the most important aspect of this game. Alot of people play primarily for the open world content, and some never even touch PvP or WvW. How fair would this be to the PvE thief players that enjoy using stealth for beating the life outta things in dungeons or the open world content ? They’d suddenly find themselves punished for using the stealth mechanic in the way that Warriors use their adrenaline, or Guardian uses their virtues, as they were intended within the game mechanics.

We’ve all had our gripes about other classes being OP, what makes these arguments any different from people calling Warrior OP? Because you can see him coming?

Stealth is not a thief class mechanic, initative and dual wield skills are.

Stealth attacks however are a class mechanic as no other class gets a rollover while in stealth. While Stealth itself isn’t a class mechanic, other class mechanics and traits are woven into it.

Yes, and while it may not be a “class mechanic”, it is still an integral part of the class. Much like buffing yourself through the roof to do big damage is very much a big part of the warrior class. Can you imagine a Thief with sub-par stealth or a Warrior with sub-par damage. It’s kinda meant to be something particular classes excel at.

@LaronX

As a thief, I full agree to your post.

To bad that the most people can’t (or will not) see the truth.

As a person who also plays a thief, I question how you think nerfing stealth would benefit the class. As it is , if you are caught alone by a Thief, sure it’s bad news, don’t expect an ambush to be gentle. With company by your side however, a spike build Thief that has just come out of stealth probably wouldn’t be as formidable. Slow him down or immobilize him, and that flimsy zerker gear he is likely wearing isn’t looking as good as it did a minute ago.

I use Dual pistols in PvE for its stopping power in both senses of the word:

1. The Stealth alternate of Vital shot is probably more useful on P/D since with CnD it is easier to stealth with without wasting a heal at the same time
2. Body shot immobilizes most things you’d want to keep at a distance. [Or off someone at low health trying to get a heal off.]
3. Unload is self-explanatory
4. Headshot takes practice in learning the enemy animations and the right time to interrupt them, but is worth it.
5. I personally don’t get much use out of Black powder, plus it takes a good chunk of initiative. Not to say it’s useless though.

At least I find it useful.

If this is really a 3 part deal, do people see this becoming the first legendary item added to the game (exo, ascended, legendary)? This almost feels like a test for a pre-cursor scavenger hunt as well, only on a smaller level.

I’m not sure whether that would be better or worse than the RNG…

“Please describe said atmosphere”

Said atmosphere would include things like those people that whisper you saying.
“Why don’t you accept my challenge?”
“Why have challenging off? You noob?”

And people amongst the RPer crowd would hardly ever see a break from them.

It just puts people in a bad mood and adds another reason to use the block list. I’d rather not see that here in GW2 like I have in other games.

Bad news: Without coordination, this event is nearly impossible. Nearly being the keyword.

Good news: With coordination, this can be one of the most fun world events in the game.

I’d say it evens out quite nicely. It rewards the coordination of practically an entire map’s worth of players, which is not something you see very often in MMOs.

I actually didn’t mind the Open World parts of the episode. Sure you can argue that it kinda minimizes your character from the “main hero” role he is suppose to play, but from a gameplay point of view it was kinda refreshing to see the Devs experimenting.

Having an excuse to run around an area other than world completion progress or leveling wasn’t unenjoyable. It didn’t really as forced as I initially thought it would be either. Could be improved on making it flow a bit better like it did in Frostgorge Sound though.

I personally don’t mind Trehearne. I don’t really like or hate him, he’s just kinda there to make the player character a bit less Mary Sue-ish as they would be if they were the Marshal themselves. At least that is what I have drawn from it, and I’m okay with that, but I have yet to see much charcterization beyond that.

I wouldn’t mind this even though it would be completely infuriating. This would encourage people to be more social and would give them more reason to be loyal to their guild, even if everyone is a bit bloodthirsty.

I just don’t see it working out that way. People in smaller, less experienced guilds, or guilds formed for the sake of RP would get the short end of the stick. RP guilds especially, because there are some decent spots outside of the cities that would be a magnet for people looking for easy kills.

Smaller, less tight knit groups would just disband or leave the game.

This new server would have to be outside the realm of the MegaServer, and could not participate in WvW. I suppose if it was kept completely separate from the rest of the game, it would be fine, but I can’t see the Devs using the resources it would take to implement it.

Still, one never knows. /shrug

Inculpatus brings up a couple of good points here. WvW is sets of 3 servers. Any PvP server would not have access to WvW. How many people would sign up for a world PvP server if it meant no WvW?

It would also be separate from the Megaserver system. The meta events such as Teq and 3 headed wurm would be subject to constant greifing. Most meta events would probably end up undoable because of fighting.

Agreed, Teq and 3 headed Wurm are hard enough as is, and quite frankly I get more of a rush out of taking down Tequatl or Claw of Jormag than I ever have from PvP. They take teamwork and coordination in the case of Tequatl, and Open world PvP would likely kill most of that. [Can you imagine how easy it would be to hit other players instead of the boss in those fights >.>]

I don’t think I would have even bought the game if it had open world pvp. It’d just end up frustrating people who play for other reasons.

OR.. you would have bought it and then convinced all your friends to come play with you so you’d feel safer in the scary open PvP world. Ultimate marketing scheme? I think yes.

Not likely, I’m afraid. The main PvE server shouldn’t be made into a mandatory PvP zone.
WvW could benefit from some of these ideas, but I don’t want to be forced to PvP.

I don’t give a kitten how fast a dungeon run is and kittenING HATE every group I see on the LFG-tool with a description like “only zerks”. they increase the time I need to fill my own group because people like the 5 minute dungeons instead of the 10 minute dungeons.

I tend to agree. Sure, I wouldn’t mind a faster run, but if I have to blow 4 or 5 times the amount of gold I can make in a week on average just to participate, nevermind. As long as we complete the dungeon, I don’t really care how long it takes.

I just found yesterday that you can actually VIEW which choice your character originally took by looking at the details of your very first Personal Story log entry:
I am <yourcharname>

I had completely forgotten for most of my characters and the fact that it has never been anything more than procedural choice when generating your character was a huge disappointment for most players. I think there are a couple of times it gives you a line or 2 of extra dialog, but it never changed any story plot lines.

It’s essentially flavor text. Fleshing out the character a bit if you care to do so. A bit being the key term.

Dont forget ascended + t6. I was feeling curious one day when I came back to GW2 and tried FG train after it was reportedly nerfed. Lo and behold Carrion Ascended chestpiece after one train run. However I never went back again as I worked on getting some other stuff.

I do forget it, because Ascended as a drop is rare enough it might as well not be something to try farming to drop.

I wasn’t even aware you could /get/ ascended as drops .-.

[Suggestion] Balancing open world rewards

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: TheRyftLord.5820

TheRyftLord.5820

I have to disagree as well. It would make things worse, not better.

1. Useful items are hard enough to get as it is. Buying them can take a few days unless you get really lucky and get something that sells for /gold/ as opposed to silver.

2. I think I’ve encountered both minor and major world events failing for reasons like player inexperience/insufficient amount of players/lack of coordination/etc. Karka even bugged on my server once and we couldn’t even lure the queen. I have never seen people try to fail an event for the loot you get even if you fail, as the rewards for success are usually much better.

3. Wouldn’t it be better to reward both Farmer and Adventurer? It’s the lack of content with sufficient rewards outside the world boss trains and the like that kinda forces the people out there that would /rather/ be exploring [like myself] to find good stuff, to buckle down and join the farm for x amount of hours. For some people, that takes up all the time they have per day to play GW2.

On the other hand, some people like farming as opposed to exploring. Why punish their prefered play style. That is just as unfair as the lack of exploration rewards outside of jumping puzzles, which can test the patience of even those who /like/ to do them. {Morgan’s Spiral anyone >.<]

You have a point that there is an inherent grind problem in the game, but I don’t feel that making farming harder to /force/ people to find other ways of earning gold or items is going to help. Instead more things like the jumping puzzles should be added.

Possibly environmental puzzles that require more than one person to do [2-3 seems like a decent number]. Even better, make them instanced so players don’t have to wait for something to reset because someone else just went through there, and trolls can’t foul you up. Make those daily like the boss trains, and that would be a good start. [Maybe change the instance maps it every so often so the same puzzle doesn’t get stale :P]

Sound fair enough?

I personally don’t mind that I haven’t gotten a precursor drop, mainly because they and the Legendaries they make that would be compatible with my characters don’t fit the “look” that I have for them at all.

As for the grinding, it does get dull after a bit and it disrupts the story pacing when leveling. I do find myself having to take a break after leveling for a an hour or so, but to be perfectly fair I don’t find it nearly as teeth grinding as other games I’ve played.

I wouldn’t mind faster leveling, but I think the difficulty level is fair enough because as long as you have an idea of what you are doing and proper level gear [within 5 levels] you should be fine.

I find the Charr to be dull and mostly furry Klingons. [Although they are adorable when they sleep]

Try as I might, most of my characters end up looking the same to me.

I tend to prefer a more practical look for Medium armor.[Bulky Armor on a Thief seems like more hinderance than help.]

I often have “Watch the Skies” or “One They Fear” playing in the background when I do Dragon Champion events.

I often find myself twitching a bit when I see silly names.

Addressing a misconception about AP

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: TheRyftLord.5820

TheRyftLord.5820

I give the OP props for trying to clarify his case for four pages now, and he does make /a/ valid point about the mentality of certain people in the game. Whether or not that mentality is justifiable is up for debate.

In the time that I have played, which has been off and on for weeks at a time since January, I have accumulated about 1700 AP. I have one level 80 character out of five, the rest are below level 60. This is primarily because I have been trying to figure out how to play my level 80 Thief as best I can and getting the gold to equip him with exotic gear to make him effective as such. It doesn’t always yield the most AP running the boss train daily for that purpose, but it does teach you game mechanics that quite often you just overlook if you just grind the AP for months.

On the other hand, something that might put more experienced players off is the way most people go about asking for a group to run a dungeon. Instead of just straight up asking to join a group, a better way to go about it might be to say “This is my first time running [insert name here], would you be willing to take me along and instruct me a bit?” or the like. Being upfront tends to have a better impression. The answer may still be no, but it sounds more like “I’m willing to learn.” and less like someone who would charge in and aggro a large group of enemies. Just be sure you actually listen at the same time.

Both sides of the argument have points, but it is less hard fact and more something that people try and find a number to gauge it by that may or may not be accurate. It boils down to play style.
