When I made this post a week ago, it was not my intention to suggest that there is anything inherently wrong with the glicko system. The matchups are stagnating because there are large glicko gaps developing on the NA servers between the different tiers. On the EU servers there is a more gradual progression of glicko resulting in more varied matchups.
I am not sure why the two server groups reached such different glicko distribution, but I have suspicions that a lot of it is being caused by where WvWers are going. Since a lot of the action is concentrated in the higher tiers, players are pooling there.
For instance: on NA servers a massive numbers disparity between T2 and T3 developed, causing lopsided matchups in T3 that widened the gap between the tiers. The gap will close as DB hemorrhages glicko, but it will take time.
The gap between T1 and T2, I fear may not be crossed, servers being what they are. The glicko gap is huge, and FA has gained about as much glicko as it can in T2.
as a former DBer, as far as I know, the SEA guilds like [NNK] and [AZ] are staying with DB, but the larger NA guilds that are still on DB are leaving to HoD. my buddies on DB claimed that DB has been bleeding WvW guilds over the last couple weeks, but cannot recruit due to the constantly full world status, which they blame on the PvEers, so they looked for a server with a better apparent WvWer vs. PvEer ratio.
NA has 3 times the glicko difference between #1 and #9 that EU has.
Snowreap’s predictions are in. The matchup stagnation is real, the matchups are locked for T1, and T2. Even T3 is guarranteed to have a DB, MAG matchup, just different probabilities for the 3rd server.
I had hopes that the wall was coming down between T1 and T2 at least, but I guess not.
I just saw that FA actually is within roll range of T1, with a roll possibility of 0.2% or something like that. It will be a month or two more before they have a realistic chance of rolling T1. Still…somebody has to win the lottery some time.
unfortunately, it looks like FA will not make it into T1, unless something drastic changes in T2. The servers there have reached a glicko equilibrium, where FA is simply not capable of beating YB and SoS enough to gain appreciable amounts of glicko off it.
And so they are stuck, FA straining at the end of a tether, T1 just out of reach, with YB and SoS at the other end.
Yes, i wounder about the same thing. How is it not yet fixed? I still got crazy lag in WvW. Couldn’t even get a simple swiftness skill in before 15 sec or so. Please lower the limit in wvw until you have a fix for the lag.
lol, this thread is old as dirt, but has seen more posts in the last two weeks, than in the past year. Thank Timelord for reanimating this relic.
Hard CC will definitely make the fight easier. Stuns, and KBs, but do not throw them blindly while he is in stealth. Use it to punish when he engages on someone, so you can be sure where he is. But yeah, if he is a more experienced roamer, you will probably lose.
That’s why so many people questioned the decision to pick someone that had never posted in the WvW forum over the people that post here on a regular basis.
How about, we do not go though this again. If he hasn’t been posting, then either there is a reason or there isn’t one. If there is a reason, then He can take all the time he needs. If there isn’t one, then we can complain that he is not doing his job. But let’s not go back through questioning his credentials again. That whole mess was the most toxic that I have seen these forum.
have the predictions been posted? I see that snowreap posted within the last couple hours, but I cannot see the post.
I see a lot of forums for this kind of thing. I can appreciate that you do not like buying the expansion because you are forced to, to stay relevant, but this is a little premature. the new meta has yet to be made.
I thought the maps will all be different with the new stuff. Like red gets fire BL, blue gets air, green gets earth or something?
Fire Nation too Stronk! Aang must master bending all the elements to bring them down!
This definitely decreases stability’s effectiveness in large groups. The fights will be over much more quickly, since you can expect people in the melee train to be one-pushed even in skilled group encounters.
It makes CC “fields”, such as RoW, LoW, Static Field, and sanctuary much more effective, turning them into “stability strips” wheras before, they were rendered useless in the face of stability.
bump. +1 to everything maguuma.
I thought that there was an answer to this already, where the guild with the most numbers at the time of the cap has a 3 minute window where they are the only ones who can claim? No?
I know you said that using the TS would not work for you, but let me encourage you to get a pair of headphones and at least go on to listen. Team communication is a pretty important part, and you do meet a lot of cool people on there. Several people on my server’s TS do not even own a mic, but they still log on to hear call-outs.
Not really. They provide the best versatility and damage vs. supply cost of any siege equipment which is why they are always used, but they are not difficult to counter.
you just said they were the best but not op? while they may not be hard to counter, they are also harder to counter than rams.
I think if we had the gold to throw around we’d all use guild catas for everything.
offering the best bang for you buck does not make something overpowered. I would argue that siege golems offer a similar ratio if used correctly, since they have the possibility of being re-used, offer greater chance of success when assaulting a keep, and low counterability, despite being significantly more expensive supply-wise.
I dont want a Frodo, I want a Gandalf!
I dont want to handhold someone, I want them to know what they are doing from the start!
You are not invited on this adventure, Boromir.
Honestly, I kind of think that anyone verbally abusing the guy over his experience level is proving exactly the reason why they wouldn’t be a good fit for the position. He’s suppose to remain objective and relay feedback. Typically that requires some level of tact.
But regardless, he volunteered for this and was chosen. If you want any positive results at all, help the guy do what he’s here to do. Don’t drive him off.
HE IS THE CHOSEN ONE!
Not really. They provide the best versatility and damage vs. supply cost of any siege equipment which is why they are always used, but they are not difficult to counter.
Be nice, guys. I understand you want to question this guy’s creds, but he just started. Let’s see what he has got first.
@Marmatt
Will your report be made public, posted on the forum?
You can try writing an email to Exploits@Arena.Net. I agree with you 100%, that the report options that they give us in-game, and our ability to accurately record the incident (writing a short description) is very lackluster in GW2.
Personally, I believe there is a threshold, before Anet considers something to be an issue. If the player base uniformly protested this kind of abuse, Anet would respond. However when there has been only one post on the forums about this issue, and there is no option to report this kind of abuse, Anet assumes that these are isolated incidents, and not as pervasive as they are. Perhaps it is just a few isolated incidents. It just seems to happen a lot…every week…every time I log on…
I can understand that a lot of cheaters get away with stuff in lower populated servers, because there are not enough people to send in enough reports to catch a GMs eye, or catch the cheater in the act.
I am very sorry that this is the case.
P.S. Hardcore WvWing can burn you out, man. hope you get a break sometimes. :-/
I really would not like to have the ambient mobs in WvW made invulnerable. They would basically be reduced to moving pieces of the environment. If you want to fight without them, I would suggest PvP.
how would you capture camps, towers, keeps or do anything related to objectives in WvW if all NPCs were invulnerable?

Yup. WvW creator who got his start with Dark age of Camelot. Would be nice to see his name at the top of the rankings for a game mode he built.
I like the idea of submitting video evidence, or a screenshot along with a report. Along with that I would add that the report function needs more options to describe what is going on, like an “exploit” option.
The problem seems to be two-fold. WvW has had continuous problems with exploits, which we need to highlight, and there are those players that exploit these (errr…) exploits.
Anyone that was around back in the day of the Orbs could tell you about the flying players that would fly into keeps and destroy the Orb Altars and steal the Orbs. Exploitation of the game has existed since the beginning. This is a constant problem that we fight. Deal with the symptoms now, report offenders. Shed light onto exploits, and trust Anet to respond and fix their issues.
We are all kind of assuming that Anet does not have the necessary crew to wield the Banhammer. If that were the case, I would see only a few problems with empowering certain trusted players, as long as they were kept accountable.
I would definitely prefer an Anet Staffer to do it, it grants too much power to the players, and puts too much responsibility on individuals that really are just there to play the game.
P.S. Please stop with the pointing fingers at other servers. It does not matter if the offenders’ main account is on a different server, or if they are simply trolling their home server. We are talking about a tiny minority of the players involved in playing the game, and their servers cannot be held accountable for their actions. What would you have the other people on their server do? The majority of players (on your server and their’s) already condemn these actions.
lol, allow players to vote peopel off the island? No thankyou!
Can you not see the abuse this can cause?!
“Oh let’s vote this player from a guild we dont like and get more of out own guild into this map.”And dont say it doesnt happen, I’ve seen hostilities between guilds where the entire guild reported another guild’s player for selling gold etc and that player having their account banned, then them having to go through the process of getting it unbanned!
You can blame anet for not checking the reports, but stuff like this happens, and if you see a voting system then it too will be abused to hell!
Please try to be courteous in your reply. Also, that situation of the guild reporting a single player, is an abuse of the report function, and is reportable but that is beyond the scope of this thread.
I know that people in this forum are frustrated with this, but keep level heads. Report the offenders, convince other players to make use of the report function and continue to post on this issue on the forum. Bump threads that are associated with this.
On my server we are dealing with this a similar issue, where players from a particular guild enjoy destroying siege golems and wasting keep supply. We have approached their guild leader to kick them (which he refused) and then we began to report their offenses. If you have community forums, highlight the issue for them and convince them to get involved as well.
There really should be a way to report a person for deliberately taking actions to harm a server…actions such as dropping rams in an area we’re trying to quickly build defensive siege in, and purposely killing golems should be reportable.
^This. This is all I would ask for.
Your feelings are understandable, and reflect the frustration of a lot of WvW players.
My greatest fear is that too many players have given up on this issue after over two years since release. But, I will dispense with the negativity.
The fact that you are here on the forums is an indication that you have not given up hope completely. Also, the fact that you are calling out players on your own server rather than raging at opposing players shows me that you are an honorable player.
I am unsure of what the social network is on your server, but on mine, we have a community forum. I would get in touch with the other members on your server that do not wish to tolerate this, and have them continue to report abuses and bump threads in this forum related to those abuses.
Regardless of whether you believe that this will change things, these are the tools we are given.
P.S. For your own sake and for others: do not post anything in the forums to directly accuse certain players, or upload footage of offenders to the forum.
We have a report option for a reason. If you are uncomfortable with players using hacks or exploits, (as you should be) then report them. That is the purpose of the report button; for players to be able bring attention to the GMs that someone is transgressing the rules of conduct.
I think your question highlights a lack of faith that Anet will respond to a report, which might be reasonable considering how many threads about hackers, exploits and trolls I see on these forums.
While daydreaming about a new system might be fun, anything that we come up with while definitely be abused worse than what we have right now.
Let’s focus on highlighting the holes in the current system.
Keep in mind that even if a troll is from a different Server and is deliberately sabotaging your server, he is one player, on a server of several hundred. His server probably does not even know that he does this, and it is not their responsibility to stop him. It is your job to report him, and Anet’s job to ban him. That being said, I believe that the majority of the siege trolls are simply players that get a laugh by irritating other players, not deliberate saboteurs.
bump. I agree with liston and atticus, that siege trolls are individuals and should be punished for their own actions. Do not smear servers for the actions of individuals; they do not represent the majority of players.
I also agree with mist, that all we as players are looking for is an option to report offenders with a reasonable expectation of a response. We do not need a new system of discipline, or some form of siege debuff or “traitor” tag. All we need is at least the hope that someone in charge is listening and willing to act.
I posted on this issue earlier. Siege trolling, and golem breaking is an issue with my server as well. I still think that the current report system can still work, if only there was the option to report someone for this, and Anet were more proactive about temporary bans for this kind of sabotage. So far, none of the report options apply to these scenarios, and bans are few and far between.
I hope you find a nice new home OP. If you enjoy commanding, I would definitely suggest somewhere in the T2-T3 range.
That being said, this is not the forum category that you should be posting this in. Check out:
Title says it all, please bring back PPK and make it a permanent feature of wvw.
Huh, PvE objectives in WvW? when did that happen? I have been to busy PvPing to notice.
maybe there is no rule of conduct…!
Right now, there is not one.
I am a little afraid of what that means. It could mean that ArenaNet thinks of that kind of gameplay as legitimate player conduct. More likely, it probably means that nobody at Arenanet wants to deal with the avalanche of reports that would come if they made it explicitly against the rules of conduct.
^. Apart from a few trollish builds, the game is actually suprisingly balanced. Bursting is simply unloading all the deeps that you can as fast as you can. For the ones that hit you for half health in a second, they are super-glassy. If you find you are dieing to quickly to react, invest more into survivability. Survive their burst > start poking em > supply crate @half-health > stomp em.
However, if they are superglassy, it is most likely either because they are bad at fighting or they are really freakin good. Do not feel bad if you lose to one.
To keep on point, and bump the thread at the same time:
this is not about making a new disciplinary system, the one that we have is essentially the same as any other MMO, the community polices itself via the report option, and then the company reviews reports and gives rulings. If they are lenient, it is their prerogative to be so.
The issue I am trying to highlight is that reports are supposed to be for breaches of the rules of conduct, and there is no rule that applies directly to the kinds of griefing and sabotage that takes place in WvW.
While I believe that Arenanet does not condone subversive actions in WvW, the rules of conduct do not give us the tools that we need as players to report those actions.
I have not seen any recognized guilds on my server do this, but I am sure it must exist.
I am concerned by the number of posts that I have seen on this subject, dating back to the very beginning of the game with no clear response.
Under the current rules, the only violation that is relevant to WvW is either verbal abuse, or botting. Supply and siege griefers in WvW are absolutely permitted to do as they please, under the current rules of conduct.
Rule #22 (match manipulation/leeching) would be relevant if it applied to all forms of competitive play, but as it is currently phrased, it applies only to PvP.
It seems strange to me that a rule exists for Match manipulation in PvP where matches typically last less than 10 minutes, and yet no rules of conduct exist for griefing, trolling, or sabotage in WvW.
My server, (and many others, from the other threads I have read) is dealing with a few griefers that I feel almost powerless to stop, that are doing everything from whispering people to not follow commanders, draining supply from a keep during an attack, siege capping a keep with flame rams, and destroying golems by cliffjumping. Some people on my server think it is deliberate sabotage by a person from a different server, but I doubt it. Some people just like to watch the world burn. The server community as a whole is healthy, working together in WvW. I am continually impressed by the amount of organization and teamwork in the top-tier servers,
Where is arenanet’s contribution to the development of healthy communities and fair competitive play?
