Warrior axe buff feedback

in Warrior

Throdin.8061

Just did some testing yesterday using Axe/axe with axe mastery instead of GS with Berserkers Power on a normal PS build.

Axe/axe maintained 25 might single target with only momentary dips to ~20. It also killed MUCH faster than I thought. Even with the nerfs, GS shouldnt be outperformed by axe/axe this much if people had actually tested it before coming here to complain about how it’s useless. Axe mastery seems to be a DPS increase over BersPow with proper fury uptime, as you only lose ~2% DPS in straight numbers while gaining more quickness and fury.

Even if this test is skewed somehow, GS relies on hundred blades way too much and moving targets would significantly tilt in favor of axe/axe.

It is a shame about us still being behind other classes in terms of DPS, but “worse than GS” this is not.

Balance patch 16 May

I havent been on in a while but after taking a quick peak at the possibility of running dual-axe, it seems at first glance it could easily replace GS for me.

With the axe-master trait you gain 20% crit damage, which unless youre at 100% crit, is not up to par with 20% damage increase after burst.

BUT with the 20% CDR on axe skills, you can have nearly 100% uptime on quickness just from your offhand axe 4 if there are at least 3 enemies. With the quickness and something like a sigil of strength + the new eviscerate might buff, I’d think axe/axe would now become an option in PS builds, if not outright being better than GS.

This goes along with the fact that GS just got a bit more sluggish in the same patch.

Agreed with the above. The only time a warrior’s weapon trait should be nerfed right now is if its functionality gets added to the base weapon.

We’re not in a position for “lets make incentive to use other weapons by nerfing the overused ones”
If anything, its the other way around.

So… I’m not seeing the logic here.

Your opinion is worth “zero demographic data”
Their opinion is worth “zero demographic data”

But because you make a thread and claiming there are similar threads and backlash… Anet should compromise the trust of their customers and go back on their word and change, as they described it, “challenging content” into non-challenging content.

Continue the arguments all you want with the entire world- more power to you if you hold your ground.

Doesn’t mean Anet, the creator of the content, the ones who decided through test after test, sorting through feedback from their playerbase all along the way, is gonna throw themselves into a PR nightmare because you’re having a hard time with the most telegraphed attack in the entire game.

This… makes a lot of sense.

We were constantly cautious of Mordremoth springing a trap on us. The Commander constantly mentions how we’re being lured into something- and Destiny’s Edge was the bait.

I agree with the idea that the final fight -was- the trap, Mordremoth just didn’t expect us to be able to use his own rifts against him…

…I mean, neither did I, now that I think about it. Where’d we learn to do that?

Hey Throdin, do you happen to have a build that lists your weapons, armor, and stats? Been looking for something like this, to be more tanky, but still deal a decent amount of DPS. Thanks!

Sure thing, went and cooked it up on the editor for ya.

Note that everything in the zerker line can be substituted from the top traits to the bottom line of traits for survivability. Also almost every trait in defense tree can be changed according to the situation (although I havent seen a need for last stand or cull the weak yet)

Also, despite people saying Blood Reckoning is terrible (I assume they meant in PvP)- it lets you face tank serious damage and will heal you to full from near-death twice over while you’re in berserk mode.

I run Berserker stats with Ruby Orbs because I have no money for Runes of Strength.

Came to the forums to make this same thread but since its already here…

I’m actually running Str/Def/Zerk in PvE now using GS/ Mace-shield. Though when going into fractals or any group content, it’s real easy to drop def for arms again.

The synergy zerker has with def makes you practically unkillable in the stun-happy zones of HoT where everything can stun you. Mounts? Chargers? Vinetails? All they want to do be a bro and give you that rousing resilience.

Mace-Shield+ Headbutt allows you to essentially break even some of the tougher defiance bars all on your own. And the missile deflection alone from shield master closes some of the DPS gap of not having arms, simply because everything its so kitten hard in HoT.

I plan to give it a whirl for a while and try getting into higher fracts with it. I still think that it’ll be weaker, but its a bit more fun than being able to 2 shot anything on paper but being CC’d or dead for the entire fight.

And how would we activate these? Will they add another button to the UI specifically for a rune?

I think this defeats the whole purpose of runes. A better version of this suggestion is something we already have- ‘On activation of your elite/healing skill’

Giving your ‘oh kitten’ buttons more power to make them feel stronger fits in with the game a lot more than adding a third ‘oh kitten’ button.

Personally, I’ve always been of the impression that while the average norn is more powerful than the average members of other races, the most skilled and experienced heroes of other races top out at the same level as norn. Moving aside from PCs, we see this with Destiny’s Edge – Eir is no more powerful than the others.

This is an understatement. While Norn are my favorite playable race, I often wonder why they were made playable at all, considering their individual power in-lore.

Each race has it’s strengths and weaknesses- but if you looked at one of each race as an individual, as you’d look at a player, no matter what race they were…

Norn blows each race out of the water so much it can only be described as unfair and overpowered.

Eir shoots a longbow with the power of a ballista. A single Norn pushed back an invading Charr warband with the bench he sat on. The Norn had more success fighting Jormag than any race with the dragons that invaded their lands, while only sending 7 hunters- including a child…

I could go on, but getting back on topic- my point is I think casters are more powerful than warriors and the like, but the exception to this would be Norn. And since Norn aren’t especially known for any feats with magic, I’m only applying this exception to the martial classes.

Magic’s power is potentially limitless.

The body’s power is not.

So it stands to reason that casters have more POTENTIAL than martial classes.

That said, with few examples for me personally to draw upon, I’ll begrudgingly say that Mesmers have historically pulled some incredible feats of strength.

But on the pure physical side of the spectrum, we have civilian Norn taking on entire warbands with a bench.
If they have even a similar potential of growth as the other races do, I’d put my money on that one Norn warrior over that infinite army of illusions.

What would make a good ELITE SHOUT?

in Warrior

Posted by: Throdin.8061

Throdin.8061

A long duration taunt (3 seconds seems fit for an elite) shout seems like a fun idea. Position yourself near a group of enemies, shout, then hundred blades.

Considering Guardians got one that gives awesome boons (and we already have a banner), it’d make sense for the warrior’s shout to be an offensive one like the reaper’s.

Along with taunt you could throw things like weakness and vulnerability in.

A possibility that I think Anet would make our personal nemesis simply because NO ONE WOULD GUESS HER would be the Lionguard girl who got mutilated by the dragon the first time you are at Claw Island and Trahearne has to carry her out in a full body cast.

While as far as I can tell she’s not villainous when you meet her first, she gets attacked by a dragon and could easily be ‘snake-nosed’ now with her appearance deformed, we’ve ALL met her, and she’s from the city. And I’m pretty sure we never see her again after Claw Island even though she lived.

Why would she be evil though? Classic ‘you let everyone that mattered to me die and now im a deformed monster’ reasoning that a few notable villains in fiction have.

Finally throwing in my input.

I’ve read practically every suggestion that’s hit the Warrior forums and finally decided to add a couple myself. The Warrior is my favorite profession despite all it’s problems and I think a few of these changes would help fix our issues. Some of these are just to make combat flow smoother and encourage us to hit more buttons or use new builds by buffing underused abilities.
Quite a few of these are likely reiterated or very similar to previous suggestions and are just my thoughts of what my dream Warrior profession would be like. Also check out the ‘Strength of the Indomitable’ suggestion in this forum. It’s a good ’un.

Utilities:
Berserker’s Stance
-Is now a stun-breaker
-Grants might every time an adrenaline bar is filled over the duration of this ability.
OR
-Grants 2 seconds of quickness upon reaching full adrenaline with this ability active. (Easily able to do this twice in once Berserker’s Stance)

Endure Pain
– Causes burning, poison, and bleeding duration to be reduced by 66% over the duration of this ability.

Throw Bolas
– Now has proper movement against moving enemies and enemies moving up or downhill

Stomp
– Is now a ground-targeted ability with 400 range.

Bull’s Charge
– Changed from a knockdown to a stun.

Fear Me!
-Cooldown reduced to 60 seconds

Banners
– Place Banner (#5) has half the cast time
– Sprint now has 900 range instead of 600
– Stab now applies vulnerability

Banner of Strength
– Brutal banner now gives one might to allies in 900 range per enemy hit by this ability. No longer applies vulnerability.

Banner of Defense
– Staggering Banner now has half the cast time.

Battle Standard
– Duration of the banner brought in line with the other banners.
– Stability from initial cast has duration doubled.

Weapon Skills:

Axe
-Cyclone Axe: Increased damage by 40%
-Eviscerate: Now evades for the duration of the leap.

Greatsword
-Rush: Reduced cast time for the attack when reaching an enemy.

Hammer
-Staggering Blow: Wind-up time reduced by half.
-Earthshaker: Now evades for the duration of the leap.

Traits:

Empowered Battle Standard
– Now instead of granting regeneration, grants each unique banner a seperate buff.
-Banner of Strength: Now grants might (4 seconds) every 2 seconds
-Banner of Defense: Now grants protection (4 seconds) every 10 seconds
-Banner of Tactics: Now grants regeneration (4 seconds) every 2 seconds
-Battle Standard: Now grants vigor (4 seconds) every 6 seconds

Physical Training
– Increases damage of Physical utilities by 50% and reduced their cooldowns by 50%

Fast Healer
– Changed to ‘Rallying Command’: Reviving an ally now grants them and anyone who helped revive them 10 seconds of vigor

Reviver’s Might
– Changed to give a random boon dependant on which profession was revived.
-Warrior: Might
-Guardian: Aegis
-Elementalist: Stability
-Thief: Fury
-Engineer: Regeneration
-Necromancer: Protection
-Mesmer: Random boon

Brawn
– Completely changed to reduce the cooldown of burst abilities by 1% per point in discipline.

My Big List of Suggestions

in Suggestions

Posted by: Throdin.8061

Throdin.8061

In this thread I’ll make a few suggestions and why I think they need to be implemented.

1. Mod responses in the suggestions forum! – I’ve read quite a few suggestions for all sorts of things like class balance, dungeons, trading, etc. Some of them were well thought out and others were “I want this to be WoW” But no matter what, it always irked me that no matter how many threads on different subjects there were, there was never a response from Arenanet.
Doubt that they even read our thoughts on the game creeps in when I finally see a red post for the first time in countless threads and I see “Moved to the right forum” or “Threads now locked”. Any sort of response would be great, whether it be “We’re thinking about it,” “It’s in development,” “Good idea!”, or simply “This won’t happen”
If the problem is they don’t actually have anyone to look around the suggestions forum, then what’s the point of having one?

2. Profession build diversity! – I haven’t played every class so I can’t speak for everyone on this. My main is a Warrior and I play a Necromancer for fun sometimes. My main issue with this game is the fact that some utility skills (NOT weapon skills) simply do not match up to the power of some others. For example, stances on a warrior. The only one ever used at the rate of any other utility type is frenzy since it’s our only source of quickness, but I’d like to see Stance, Physical Utility, and Banner builds that actually have the versatility and power of a shout build.
Some people can make these work. I’ve done banners before and its awesome, but banners are clunky and immobile which drove me away, but I’ve never actually seen these people make it work to the extent of your normal condi removal healing shouts you see all the time.
That’s just a personal example. I think the problem could be solved with the simple buffing of certain traits or small buffs across unused utility skills for all professions that have them to make them viable.

3. Dueling! – You’ve seen this suggestion a thousand times and will continue to see it until it’s implemented, if that ever happens. I know class balance makes this idea a bit shaky but it’s not competitive PvP, it is just a quick activity to have fun with! Put limitations saying we can’t duel in cities or while in the middle of a dynamic event or whatever you want, just put this in!

4. One on one trading! – I don’t see why this was implemented from the beginning. People can scam you in the blink of an eye with the mail system, and according to a friend of mine who was scammed, Anet can’t do anything to help you if you are. This leaves the only safe way to trade the BLTC, but I wouldn’t use that for trading with someone I just met.

5. Tooltips need fixin’! – Tooltips lie in this game so hard it makes me cry, at least when it comes to damage. I’m sure there isn’t much explaining needed on this one.

I’ll have a whack at this and voice my ideas even if they won’t be implemented.

Keeping with the idea of a condition based 2h weapon…

1. Swipe: Cripple
Strike: Bleed
Rend: Bleed. Increased AOE. Slower animation.
2. Devastating Cleave – Applies 3 stacks of bleed. Large AOE
3. Wrathful Counter – Blocks the next oncoming attack, countering and applying vulnerability x5
4. From on High! – Leap at a target area (400 range), dealing damage to enemies and receiving 3 seconds of retaliation for every enemy hit. Enemies closer to the center take more damage.
(chain) No Escape! – Spin around, doing light damage and pulling enemies to you.
5. Obliterate – Spin around, doing an uppercut that knocks a foe back and does heavy damage.

Burst Skill: Guillotine – Does damage based on how many stacks of bleed are on the target.

Just as the 1h sword focuses on conditions, with mobility and defense being secondary, my version of the Greataxe is mostly conditions with control and normal damage being secondary.

You could control and slowly bleed a large group of enemies to death, or get a single target low enough then use your burst skill to finish them once you’ve stacked as many bleeds as you can on them.

I agree with the OP. They fact that the game is new means getting groups for the story lines (mid level especially) is easier but that’s going to change real soon. The fact that I might not even be able to -do- my personal story quests because I am forced to find groups is aggravating enough but to not be able to complete my map and get the achievement as well is just nauseating. I loathe being forced to do a dungeon etc just for that stuff. The fact that I have to be several levels higher than my storyline quests to begin with just to hopefully survive them is pretty irritating as well because I enjoy storylines as part of the game in general. Challenging is good but really…when I have to be over 10 levels higher than my storyline quest so I can have the traits etc to survive it….that’s just stupid. The difficulty should match the actual level don’t ya think?

I did every single quest starting from Claw Island and up at least 2-3 levels under the recommended level except for Zhaitan. I think it’s safe to say you’re doing something wrong if you have to do it 10 levels OVER the recommended.

As for the OP, what I was gonna say has already been said but it’s times like this its nice to think, ‘Over the course of making and checking on this thread, you could’ve finished that story quest, discovered that POI, and been on your merry way by now.’
