For anyone having patching problems still I am putting a copy here of what I posted at the end of a thread with the original problem. I hope it helps others now or any time in the future when it reoccurs as it is bound to.
If anyone is still having trouble getting Gw2 to update here is a workable cure to the endless sitting there restarting client. Open notepad. Save it into a folder you create on your desktop. Call it anything you like but I called mine Gw2 updater. Make sure you can see the .txt at the end of the name then replace that with .bat and save. Copy this into your .bat file.
@echo on
:loop
start “GW2” “F:\Games\Guild Wars 2\Gw2.exe”
timeout /t 80 >null
taskkill /f /im “Gw2.exe” >nul
timeout /t 3 >null
goto loop
You must change the path you see in my file from F:\Games etc \Gw2.exe to the path where your Gw2 .exe is. My path will not work for you. I left it so you can see what it must look like apart from that it must be your path used.
This will work for windows users. It will start your client automatically, let it run and update for 80 seconds then turn it of for 3 seconds then restart it all over again endlessly until when you see the client is updated you will have to just exit the running command window. If you do not wish to see the command words as it operates change the echo on to echo off. You can change the times (they are in seconds) from the 80 & 3 I have given if you need for best results on your computer. I worked them out for how long my update would run before stalling.
It works fine. Hope it helps anyone frustrated with sitting there trying to make update happen manually.

Oh jeezes already! When did players become so kitteny?
If you want the legendary then work for it. If you don’t move on with your life.
I started working on my precurser and it really feels like a long journey with a heavy investment, and in the end it will feel even more gratifying to have that item.
PS: You have 3 ways to get a precurser/legendary, buy it with gold, farm or hope for a random drop (mobs or either from MF).
PSPS: Oh and noone is forcing you to make a legendary. So stop complaining.
This is the typical response from people who either got rich early in game when values were different, or do not work so play the game all day with no thought to the fact that for people with only a couple of hours a day to play and who would actually like to play the game for fun with friends will never have the time to farm the materials or the gold for precursors. The best gear I myself will ever have will be exotic. I do not have the time, patience or whatever else is required for anything more than that.
I accept this fact. But for the sake of argument if something in a game cannot be acquired with a couple of hours play a day over 2 to 3 months it is just not worth it. I am happy for those who have it or are going for it, and I feel for those who desire it but do not have the time and/or know how to earn the gold or farm the materials since a game that was meant to be fun loses a lot of that fun when all you have time to do is run around farming materials. If I wanted to be a farmer I would own 50 acres and a tractor. Anyway I have learned to desire nothing so I am not disappointed.
It is a pity though that in response to someone posting about this or any other difficulties they feel they have in the game they have to put up with some smart%#$ss who rather than offering encouragement just enjoys running the person down for posting.
Ladies & Gentlemen. This problem has occurred in similar severity around this time last year & on some previous occasions. Yes it is annoying. The only cure available is to constantly restart your updater (client). There has never been a proper fix available. Stay with your computer. Keep restarting the client. Bit by painful bit it will gradually get the whole update till you can eventually log in. It will keep stopping. Kill it and restart it. It will get there no matter how long it takes. I too am going through it but have been through it before. Persistence gets you there. Good luck all.
So many comments. Constructive discussions certainly can get interesting. Chris McSwag.4683 I offer my apology for missing that you did indicate pvp/wvw. I respect your opinion or right to say it and am also happy Jana.6831 has good reflexes at his age 30+ as indicated. Not offering argument here but I am near double that, my mind and reflexes are slower hence no pvp etc. and I speak to players who have 10+ years on me in the game. Oh and if anyone is about my age and king of pvp please do not bother putting me down for not being as good. It is a bit like putting down a terminally ill person just for being terminally ill. But if it gets you off to do that I guess go for it.
Also Jana.6831 I may have missed the part where anyone said you do not know how to play. I am not sure who that was intended for. I will not argue that Condi or Power is better as I have a fondness to both even though I am not real good with either. But I think my main point was I enjoy playing the game on a simpler play style and if Anet took up the challenge to make all play styles really difficult only real pros could get enjoyment out of the game.
Many better players than myself have put forward valid & even opposing points about which is better or more fairly in my opinion, both have benefits and counter measures depending on the scenario. I will put forward a point however a number of very good pvp/wvw players have often mentioned in my hearing that possibly pvp/wvw should be treated differently to pve like some different stats or traits or whatever so what affects one good or bad does not impact on the other.
I know this would mean more work for Anet & expect the idea might attract a lot of criticism, but it is just an idea, not originating from me but one that might allow the difficulties pvp/wvw people like. Not saying pve people do not also enjoy challenging play styles. It is nice to think though that the game does not have to be so elite though as to exclude less skilful players.
Personally I think the game is pretty balanced overall ( well actually I would like to be able to do more damage & survive more than I do) allowing for choices in play style and if it is not just play the class you are most happy with, or you currently consider the strongest. And by all means start a thread and share an opinion just like Chris McSwag did, love it or hate it.
PS: Tongku I loved your Mes fight style walk through. I will save and re read it.
Thank you Just a Flesh Wound. I did do a search prior to posting just using the word krytan. It offered many responses not one of which even had the word Krytan in them anywhere. But I appreciate your response it gives me hope. I would appreciate no more responses to this as the question is nicely answered.
I would like to see the Krytan Armor Skins in the gem shop. I do not remember seeing them in there and since Anet is about having things in gem shop to encourage people to spend real money to support them, that is one thing that would have me do just that. I do not wish to spend 2000 gems on a Digital Deluxe upgrade with a great number of useless things to me just to maybe get skins which it does not specifically say you will get unless you know for sure what Heroic Edition has in it. (I have only heard it said it may have these skins). Whatever Heroic edition has in it I neither want nor need any of it but I am willing to spend gems in gem shop for Krytan Armor Skins if Anet is capable of putting them in there.
So to put it simply Anet. Do you want my money or not. I am sure there are others like me who would like the skins but not for 2000 gems bought with real money. But for the same price as other skins yes, it would be acceptable.
The main issue I have with using condi builds myself is that it requires very little skill, very little thought and generally very few button presses to pull off and in return you deal massive damage unless its instantly cleared. There is really no trade off at all, apart from it being a passive and boring playstyle.
A part of it being so easy is of course that zerk builds melt in a split second, but i still cant get away from it being passive like trapper/stealth builds or with very few buttons to press like burn guardian, and to me its just too boring to play.
I do not pvp or wvw but you did not specify them or pve nor did you mention a specific class. I disagree with any of them being too easy to play and survive everywhere I go but even if they are I do not see a problem with having some classes capable of a more simple play style as not every person who likes to play games can easily handle complicated numbers of buttons in some specific order. Not everyone is 18 to 25 with instant reflexes; a near zero latency & low frame rate, yet some people who are older, slower reflexes, high latency due to distance from server or whatever, would also like to be able to play & actually survive & maybe they have fun with a simpler way of playing.
No matter condi or power only the skilled people will be the winners in a battle (assuming one on one or equal numbers) so since your complaint appears centred on play being too easy, make & run a toon requiring all the complexity you desire but why complain because some types are at least playable to a satisfactory degree for those not as quick thinking or in reflexes as you may be.

The TP is -
1. Good for the economy as a gold sink.
2. Good for the economy as it brings all buyers and all sellers together, so prices find equilibrium.
3. Good for players, as it’s safe.
4. Good for players, as you can instantly see useful information about how much other people are buying/selling for. This makes it incredibly easy for new players, and those who don’t follow the economy, to get good prices for what they’re selling.
People trying to avoid TP taxes are just being greedy. Remember, prices are set by players. That means the 15% tax on the seller is already taken into account in how much people sell for.
I strongly oppose the introduction of any personal trading system.
“End quote”
Your opinion is duly noted, and matches a few others. Lets compare for a moment to real life. Based on your opinion a farmer should never be allowed to sell his produce at his front gate as many in our country do in the small farm areas. He should accept the few cents per produce item, sometimes not even covering the cost of growing the product (in troubled economic times) and watch happily as similar produce is sold in retail shops for 10 to 20 times the amount he is offered by big retailers. There should also be no weekend markets like the ones that attract thousands of people where they occur here, where small producers, hobbyists and sometimes just people selling second hand or sometimes vintage items get together and sell stuff. (Yes I know they too pay a small fee but it is more affordable to them than trying to sell through a retailer). Two people might have a conversation in some form, mumble, TeamSpeak, PM, or even in a (as yet not available) trade chat and 1 agrees to sell to the other (or swap for another item but not covering that here), the intention of the seller being to ensure the other player only, gets the item (possibly at a much cheaper price if the item is normally high priced in trading) but still does not actually know the person in a way that he can be certain of getting paid. C.O.D. would be perfectly safe (in mail) as the items is there, buyer can see it is correct item, but if he does not put in the correct amount of money he will not get the item; it will auto return to the sender eventually. A/ it cannot be scammed, and B/ as in real life, it should be treated and dealt with (scamming; cheating; stealing) as in real life with heavy penalties that allow reimbursement to the aggrieved party, and heavy loss/penalty to the perpetrator. Note that in real life face to face trading does not have you paying a tax or other party for the privilege. It is not like Anet is losing something out of it. Where the tax goes or does not go does not affect them. And one can always monitor B.L.T. to be aware of the current public price verses what they are paying. Scammers exist because of anonymity and the evil intentions they have. They are only anonymous to other players in game, not to Anet; so Anet is the Authority that must punish scammers. Evil in game is as vile as in the real world. As for your comment on a gold sink. That is a rich persons mentality. Must have a way of taking money off others. When you are broke you do not need a place to throw more money. You need a way of obtaining what you need at a price you can afford given that money (as you are levelling toons; never mind whatever it may be like for lvl 80, toons now bored with nothing left to strive for) does not exactly fall out of trees or the pockets of many of the mobs you kill. Maybe you need something like a 60% income tax for high money earners like Governments have; verses a much lesser tax for low income earners. Maybe that will help solve this apparent money sink problem you have. Safe is as safe as Anet choose to make it. Scammers can be stopped or punished if Anet choose to do it. Penalties and reimbursement can be done if Anet choose to do it. Free trade and retail exist in the real world because lack of anonymity allows for punishment. Scam some mob like the Mafia or bikies or loan sharks(just examples) and tell me they will not find and punish you. The argument in the end is simple. Allow or not allow free trade is only a decision. The ability to safely implement it is easy enough, if the decision were to allow. Chat for selling/buying can be controlled if Anet wish to implement it. They do not at the moment allow it or have anything in place to make free trade safe and may never do so. But people should still be able to talk in forums to put forward their ideas on it and try to have change introduced if that is what they want, same as real life.
I guess since the armor as we see it is just the result of what the artist drew for each race male and female character Anet either presumed all the races are Scottish so like kilts, or just have preferences that lean that way. It would of course be quite easy for them to draw various armor sets to be stylish and attractive on the ladies and sufficiently rugged for the males.
Maybe Anet should have an area in the forum where people could put forward designs they would like to see on toons. I agree, that one of the big draws to this game is the personalised appearance you may develop. Without that it is just another game, maybe no better or worse than any other, but style is in my mind one of the biggest draw cards to GW2. Even the Asura race lack real detail other than hair (maybe) to define male from female but that is another subject. Anyway maybe some input along the style lines is what Anet needs to better appreciate what players would appreciate more. What do you all think?
Some of you… probably the single toon or richer people among you have the “rich get richer, the poor get poorer” mentality. Others feel as I do that personal trading can work if done properly without that high % to the middleman. But at least this thread proves there are people on both sides of the fence so to speak. Some people, like me will probably never have much spare money so every bit in game counts. Those who think the poorer in game need to be kept poor because the rich ones are fine are no different to the real world where they want to always see poor people struggle. But do not speak to deny me the right to make the thread as it has been interesting reading. Have an opinion sure, but do not deny others theirs. Yes Anet can find hundreds of ways to rip gold out of us. Bottom line is if it is too hard for average people to get buy in game they may simply stop trying. I have answers for the problems mentioned but with the divided opinions it would be irrelevant to give them. I thank all positive input from both sides of the discussion.
Following a previous topic, of scamming, WoW has had C.O.D trading by mail since forever and LineageII has had personal trade or swapping where both parties could see the correct trade items were in place and accept and if you took out your part trying to scam it stopped the trade, that has been done for over 10 years. Personal trading is quite easy but I would say Anet does not want to implement it. I do not agree with them on it but for those who say or think it cannot be done….. think again. Safe personal trading has been around for years in other mmorg’s. What ever your response do not make it a rant if you do not want the topic shut down. It should be discussed with a view to asking Anet to make it happen here too. Lord knows it is tough enough to get ahead in the game financially as it is.
In options we have a camera slider to position our character more left or right on the screen. I would like a second slider given to us to be able to raise the position of our character on the screen. I would like the ability to be able to have my full character in the screen when I zoom in and to be able to fill the screen with the character for screenshots of the various armors and colours, not just have half of it on the lower half of the screen only. This is not about when fighting where you normally zoom out for taking everything in, but for enjoying half of what the game is about; being able to show off the varied and nice armor collections and colours available. So how about it Anet. Will you add another slider to the options so we can take advantage of a main part of the game that we play to achieve. At the moment the only way we can screenshot is to hope someone else stands still long enough that we can capture them for a picture of armor or colours we like. I want to capture my own toon fully for once, and not just from the chest up.
Thanks those who gave constructive feedback. Might as well leave it there. I shall just accept how it is.
Thank you Xiahou Mao. Though I knew well of the group thing where others need to help break one out of the cacoon, or to distract or slow the spider while the cacooned person fights for their freedom, your explanation helps make sense of it when reading it. Maybe not telling me what I did not already know but reading what you said helps accept it.
And Zypher that is exactly what forums are for. A complaint or problem laid out for constructive feedback. Give me your e-mail and I will run everything by you first to see if I have a right to post it for replies from others. Maybe you have the answer I need before I post here. I already told you not to put some reply like ( Please, don’t go complain on the forum because you managed to find one boss with a skill that cannot be dodged). The constructive answers help some like me to reason out or accept some things.
If you reply do not bother to be nasty because I have an opinion nor tell me it is fine for you so why am I complaining as I so often see when others post. (That is the sort of response that normally stops people like me from ever coming to forums to speak)
1/ Dodge does not dodge anything sent at you by any form of bosses… what good is it. A useless part time skill that should be listed as pvp only since it is useless where it counts in pve. It is fine to dodge common NPC’s but they do not hurt you that much; but the things you practice dodging for (mini bosses and powerful npc’s) you cannot dodge, so waste of time trying or thinking you can. A specific encounter is Spider Queen in Kessels Hills. You cannot dodge the cacoon. I have many times watched as the cacoon changes course to follow my strafing dodge. I have been stopped and am just a green haze to one side of the cacoon, unable to fight it because I am not in it because my dodge attempt bugged it.
Dodging when in the radius of the toxic flowers damage seems to generally if not always totally fail. If you time a dodge well or 2 in a row you should escape unharmed but pretty much never do. Do not bother to tell me I am wrong, I have fought it many times testing it. I enjoy the fight but the dodge mechanic (not evade)which should be able to be effectively used is useless. It is not the only encounter I find this, but a good one for example. Also if it worked some of the time it might just be latency and so on but it is 100% fail. I have even been cacooned when well behind a tree, which blocked me doing damage with my skills but does not always block the cacoon.
It looks like something like your firewall or anti virus protection program may be blocking connection. If it used to work before an update just go through the process of making sure your firewall sees GW2 exe as an allowed program. There is nothing that actually should have changed due to an update; but that still looks like a program on your computer may actually be blocking you. And Junkpile the description you give sounds like you lost connection just as you get into the game but the screen remains on with you standing there. Sometimes that happens (you standing there) but the reason may be the same. Make sure your firewall or possibly anti virus program(lesser chance of the latter) is not blocking you.
The persistence paid off….. I finally got the full update with persistence. Hope the rest of you get it too.
Hi everyone. Here in Australia with just this last update an hour or so ago this same problem occurred. Since I have been through this before with all the resulting conversations with Anet; using their tool to scan computer for info for them and so on; all the fix attempts, this time I am just turning off my firewall; (which by the way is not the cause of the problem) and just going to restart the GW2 exe however many times it takes. It will eventually get all the update since that was the only way to overcome it last time it got this bad.
So my advice, though this is a pain in the royal posterior, is just keep restarting the exe. Bit by tiny bit it will get in what it needs. It should not happen but it does, repeatedly, particularly with these festival updates. Yes it says only one file remains, but that is always the problem each time it happens. Keep trying everyone it will get there.
I had not noticed it on other player pets until you said it and I had only just joined a guild and played hunter for the first time after reading this. While it does not offend me I do agree with you that it would be good to have the option to not show Guild by pet name & it would be good to have the option to not see any pet names for those who want to not see pet names. But that would probably have to apply to all pet names not just your own. I personally like to see pet names but would like to have it made so that a name once given to a pet remains that pets name, not becomes the name of one of your other pets should you switch with other pets you have acquired. I seem to be forever renaming my pets so that they keep the name I desired for them. And any time I tame a new pet it acquires the name of the previous pet so I go through it all again. Not a serious issue I guess but a unexpected one none the less. I do appreciate however, the ability to rename my pet multiple times should I desire a name change.
I would like to have the Lock Autotarget button in options replaced with a Turn Off Autotarget button or have that button added as another option. While moving around in a fight with one or more mobs it is really frustrating to keep pulling in new mobs to the fight simply because pressing a skill button took a new target and I do not have spare fingers to hold down on a lock auto target button. I tab target pretty much all the time anyway so do not want my skill buttons taking a new target just because I may be facing a bit towards another mob mid fight. Anet would you please change or add this function.
I will not argue for or against an expansion as I have not completed the map on any 1 toon yet, nor likely to in a long time. But for those who like to rush out and complete an expansion and be first to have run all dungeons and get all end of game content, you would probably complete said expansion within 1 week or maybe a month because you will hammer it until you have done so.
You are missing the best point of a community type game like GW2 like meeting other people, helping them play and learn the game with all the intricacies it has. Just doing things together instead of being first and best with everything. Being free to play helps many people who might be hard pressed to pay like wow requires. Sometimes just running around with a group of friends is far more rewarding than racing to get through new content so you can be first to be bored again and ask for more expansions in forum again.
For a game that is not pay to play I think it is doing very well. The choice you are really wanting is either free to play as is or Pay to play with heavy marketing and still regular small content updates just to keep it interesting . Wow is doing it that way but I left wow & am not going back.(I do not enjoy roaming over black burnt out blown up landscape all the time.) Wow makes a fortune to pay staff, Anet keeps it free, has a small budget in comparison, and does well within that comparison. If you want what Wow does please go play wow. If you like one of the prettiest games I have seen with nice scenery and very realistic (more or less; well Norns and Humans anyway) toons with pretty armour looks and enjoy meeting often nice people and not having to pay for the privilege Then I believe Anet is doing nicely within those parameters.
I am not criticising anyone as such, but speaking up in appreciation of Anet’s efforts thus far.
I am not bored with the game as such. But I want to level up my crafts while levelling my toons. I am a patient farmer.(Not Botter) I am very disappointed that actually farming for my own materials is prevented because I have the patience to farm my own mats. With mostly low level toons it is not like I can just buy everything I want or need & am not overly interested in farming for money. So for this game to actually remain good for me I need the anti botting stuff removed so I can farm & be rewarded for it properly. And as long as I am actually farming, not botting, why should I not be properly rewarded for it. It is not up to me to determine how to prove a botter but I at least reply once I am aware someone is talking to me & I would expect that if a GM is talking and chat is turned off, they must have a way to make you see they actually spoke to you. I love playing Dress up Barbie & want to farm my own mats, dyes and so on, but if the rewards are going to decrease after a short time or I get the anti bott message that something is turned off, I may be wasting my time here despite the nice things about the game and the nice people I often meat along the way.
If farming is one of my things a game that is against that makes it a game to maybe reconsider. (Sadly)
I have everything set to high with framerate bouncing between 80 and 110 with occasional dips to around 60 almost everywhere. Lions Arch gets a little jerky sometimes for a second or 2 but normally good. I have not been in boss fights as I am only lower level but so far none of the problems you guys are having anywhere I have been. My computer is good with i7 processor, 16gb ram & NVIDEA Geforce GTX680 graphics card, nothing overclocked but a massive air cooler and it just handles everything. Cable internet too. If I knew how to add a attachment I would add a screenshot but since I cannot drag and drop nor see a way to add one I am sorry I cannot.
Okay everyone. I had given up apart from still watching the forums. After looking at Oppylock’s post above I decided to try to emulate what he had done. It is not the first time I had done it, but after 13 hours the first time and only a few failures with defender turned of I have previously given up. I turned off defender (again) just as Oppylock said he did and repeatedly restarted the exe when and only when it absolutely stopped. You have to be patient. It has taken me many restarts to get from 14 files remaining until it actually completed the update. I too am now in the game. Please everyone try this and be patient and constantly repeat the restarts as long as it is still willing to try to get in a bit more of the update. It is frustrating and you too will begin to believe that it will never happen for you, but now it has happened for 2 of us. Oppylock and myself & maybe anyone else out there who has tried it so persistently.
Thank you Oppylock. Without your post I would never have bothered trying again. I thought I had tried everything.
My friend who has not been stopped by this issue has Telstra cable network in Australia. I too in Australia only 10klm from him have optusnet cable connection. He updated and played. I cannot. We both have cable network not wireless in house.
I believe I have narrowed the problem down to something wrong with the .dat file as repeated 5gb download update attempts I eventually screenshot the process capturing the freeze with 14 file remaining at 4907mb. I also believe that the dat file is the problem because I obtained a working updated copy of the game from a friend which I could play from the external hard drive but copying it to my computer failed near the end of the copy and copying the individual files it only stopped near the end of the dat file saying “unable to read from source file” My email contacts with Anet left me being told I am the only person having this trouble. It is just me, my computer or my service provider. So despite That I too trawled the net for fixes to this with the information that I am alone in it, (since after I made this post apparently in the wrong area Anet moved it, & I only just a few hours ago noticed a pm they gave me telling me they moved it, but not telling me to where they moved it) I of course found none and Anet has repeatedly not accepted the information from me that I believe it to be said dat file, still citing only me with the issue, and it cannot be their file as I am the “ONLY” person with a problem.
Yeah though I am sorry all the other people out there are having this problem too, I am glad to see the forums filing with the complaints because maybe now they will look at the file That I have spent so much time trying to copy and download and trying to narrow down the fault that does not exist. I do not know how to make log files to log such errors but recorded via screenshots the process until The very end where it stopped so I could say exactly how far in mb it stopped. And Since my trying to copy the game from a working copy failed at the same end point of the dat file And in truth there are only the exe and the dat file required to play the game it is not like there is a big file option but for where to look, that is as near as I can give for a point of the problem.
And why do I write this now. Because I have been told a number of times that I and I alone am having a problem. No one else is having a problem. No one else has contacted Anet and said they have a problem. But the forums say differently so maybe they will now listen.
One last thing while I am on a roll since I only saw the admin reply above mine from a couple of hours ago. SERIOUSLY people. When they have not changed, why are these questions you ask important. If the method of connecting to the net has not changed and their computer has not been changed and their software has not been changed and we have not all got the same virus causing this problem, and the only SINGLE thing that has actually changed between many random people throughout the world is the files we are updating and we are all using different means of connections and the fault really truly exists at the very end of your DAT file as I seriously screenshot the whole update process as I said which went smoothly yet again until it came to “14 files remaining” and slowed to 0 and stopped, and yes if we persist long enough like hours that might eventually go to 1 file remaining but it will not complete. So between that info and the knowledge That I have had the exact same problem occur with the .dat file you have been pointed to the last little area of the dat file as the problem. It is not a log file but it is the result of patiently trying to discover the point of the problem. Surely narrowing it down like that must be a help to give you a smaller field to look in to resolve this. And it would be really nice too if someone from Anet might actually email me and apologise for saying I am the only person with this problem after moving my post and it taking this long for me to get back and find all these other posts here abouts. By the Lord Harry you have made me feel alone in this.
Ok Guys here is the thing. I have been emailing Anet about this since this update was given. I made a forum post which they moved probably to somewhere here, but because I do not know much about forums I lost it when they moved it till I saw now that they pm’d me to say they moved it. Before they moved it I saw a reply similar to those here, that we are many of us having trouble. Anet have repeatedly told me in replies to my emails that I am singular in this problem, that you guys do not exist. No one else other than me is having this problem. I have redone this update 6 times at up to 5+gb each time and the last time I screen shot the process frequently up until it froze again. I even obtained a updated copy from a friend who for reasons unknown to me has updated ok on same operating system but has a different ISP. The game played from the external hard drive onto which I copied it but when I tried to copy the files into my computer it stopped at the very end of the 19.1gb dat file saying cannot read from source file. The dat file has a problem at the very end of it but Anet will not admit this despite my repeated efforts to point out the 3 separate computers here each with different operating systems are unable to complete this task. And yes I too spent about 12 hours restarting the exe thinking I might get this elusive last file in before trying to copy my friends game into my computers only to be stopped at the same point. But I am the only one having this problem. Anet told me so. They have told me it is my computer, my service provider. They told me it cannot possibly be their file as I am the only person with this problem. So 2 to 3 days now I have been persisting with download and copy attempts always to fail at the same point exactly. I have read many forums on how to fix. Most of these I had already done long ago solving other problems with one game or another. My computer and net are unchanged, only their files are the one thing that has had a change which they will not acknowledge. You will have to all email them and tell them there are many of us with this problem not just me like they tell me. They clearly do not read the forums.
Good luck guys. By their responses to me it looks like I will be forced to just leave due to no ability to be taken seriously that they have a fault in their dat file. It is just me or my service provider at fault. Tell that to the 5gb I managed to download 6 times trying to solve this. Oh last thing. For reasons I will no go into they told me that in their software the update can see if your computer might due to hardware or drivers or some other reason not be able to play this game therefore the game will not update. They just did not tell me that the part of there files that does this is at the very end of the update not the beginning, so it can go “HAH” you might not be able to play this game on that computer so you just wasted your time and download amount. Please try again so I can go “HAH” again while you try to work out what is going on.

This has to be one of the stupidest threads ever created on this forum. Along with the emote rage thread.
lolol I didn’t notice it, maybe cause I rarely pay attention to other players and their emotes.
So someone has an opinion about something simple like this; something they liked about their toon, and you do not share their opinion and that makes the thread stupid huh. Perhaps you might like to share your phone number, mailing or email address and we, the rest of the people in the world other than you, can contact you and run it by you to see if we have your consent and/or agreement to make a thread. Lord knows we would not want to have an opinion of our own nor make a simple statement on a minor issue that you might not agree with. Maybe for the crime of making a simple statement on a trivial matter we should all just troll the maker of the statement just as you did to her/him. Oh… wait a sec… I think that is what I am doing to you right now. Sorry about that. Apparently I forgot to contact you and run this past you to for agreement.
Have a nice day you small narrow minded troll.

Is anyone else having updating issues. Since the game logged off today I have been unable to download the updates to play. It has been maybe hours now and if I am lucky I get a few megabytes each time I try to initiate the game but it always stops after a mb or 3. At this rate I may be able to play in the next week or 2. I have never had a problem before ever, even with the fairly recent really big update prior to Halloween. Am I alone in having problems or is the server/servers just not coping well with everyone updating at once just now.
I have concerns that because it always just stops updating after a few mb & the necessary re initiations of the game to try to restart it that I may wind up with damaged game files and need to reinstall or recopy in the game & start again.
Cheers everyone, hope you are all fairing better than I at the moment.
To add my opinion if I may, I joined this game after friends showed me that you can dress up your character quite pretty, and though I should maybe be ashamed to say it I like very much to play dress up barbie. I am not in a hurry to level as getting there is half the fun. I also realise that at high level (80)there would be nicer, better, prettier, sexier, more stylish and whatever else skins than the throw away items as you level.
But while levelling up I would like to be able to keep my girls in the prettiest gear I can out of what I have been able to get hold of. Due to the amount of gear changing when levelling this really needs to be free or so simple one does not have to waste time making disposable chars to run towns and waste time.
Since it is a part of the game I understand you have to do something at level 80 for the better skins but for reproducing any of the levelling type gear or some other moderately nice gear it should remain free or easy and simple, not time wasting. If I cannot easily keep my char in the pretty gear I want most of my interest in the game becomes lost because despite all the very well done aspects of the game if I am not happy with the look of my char as I run around levelling I may as well be running around with a ugly troll or undead…. but I want pretty which means not just the boring look of much of what I have had so far. I would actually be happy with the look of some of the very low level gear as I level but cannot even keep that look without a cost in time, disposable chars or some other cost.
In Summary, I want for little or no cost and no time wasting to at least be able to level up with the frequent armor/weapon changes to keep whatever look I can acquire at least prior to level 80 (with level 80 gear). I don’t have to be the best looking levelling, but levelling in ugly gear bores me to quitting as I like levelling with multiple toons.
I also believe you should be able to choose a look and have the option to keep that look until you decide on any changes, this look could then remain as you level up the toon despite the better gear you use as you find it.
