Keyboard keys disappearing due to GV2

As you may have noticed in the title, I had to use the V instead of VV, that is because, ever since the Rising flames patch, i sometimes get a strange bug vhere my character cannot stop running at all. In addition, the VV key disappears ENTIRELY from the computer, as in the computer no longer registering that the key exsits at all!

sometimes exitting GV2 solves the problem, but more often I need to restart the computer entirely in order to get the key back! Heck, vith this latest bug-up, I have nov also lot the ability to create quotation marks ><

This happens aproximately every 5-10 minutes depending on the area of the fire isles I am currently in, vith the caldera triggering this bug in less than 2 minutes of being present there.

I have tested vith other games, and this issue does not arise there, only vith GV2. In addition, vhile vaiting for the patch to come up, I spent the entire day farming around the rest of Tyria and never had this issue at any point.

Any suggestions on hov on earth this happened, and vhat can be done to fix it? It basically makes the game unplayable, and vorst of all means i cannot use the computer normally after playing GV2

Right, first of all, this is RP-related, mostly.

So, my norn has gotten into a challenge, where he is to prove that he can take down a giant alone, unarmed, and unarmoured, and using only his head, no fists or arms or the like. This would be easy if it was possible to simply talk it into a death situation, but since the game mechanics don’t allow it, i need another option, especially as I can’t attack it with no unarmed attacks available in the game.

i don’t know yet which giant it will have to be, so simply yelling a lavine down over it may not be an option.

Any ideas as to how to pull off this seemingly impossible feat? And im pretty sure simply talking someone else into killing it for me is against norn bear-follower ego

Arena.net, if you absolutely have to design your games to cause players to crash every single time (managed perhaps 1 clawmag event without a crash since feb 26th, in spite the other events working, including the other dragons), can you at the very least design the game so that it does NOT boot you to overflow if you log back in instantly?! Other mmo’s do not log you out instantly when you crash, so you can come back if you do it right away as it keeps you in the world for 30-60 secs, so why are Gw2 players punished for Anet not coding their game to handle their players? By comparison, other mmo’s have been able to handle up to houndreds of players easily without as much instability and crashed. Heck, in wow it took pretty much the entire server assembled in a single spot in order to cause drop in framerates and crashed, even with settings maxed. So how can it be that this game cannot handle 20-30 dudes on screen regardless of graphical settings?

At least allow us to get back in before YOUR programming prevents people from claiming rewards from events they spent their time waiting for and fighting for. Spending a lot of time on something, just to have it consistently slap you in the face and deny you the reward for that work is the antithesis of fun, and that is coming from someone who can accept that this is one of the grindiest mmo’s out there.

So, i stood around for 20 mins waiting for the event to start, then when the pre-event spawns it causes the game to crash, i instantly log back in only to find ive been thrown to overflow, just making all of the wait kittening pointless!

Yes, I am certainly having fun in this game…..

(as an aside, on thursday there was barely anyone playing guild wars, so events flowed nicely , didnt die instantly and without lag and it was awesome!)

Crash and Chests

Thuran.7624

Right, as most probably know, the recent patch made world events almost unplayable, and getting through them a miracle, usually doable by simply looking away from the boss and trying to have as little on screen as possible.

However, ever since the patch, the game has been freezing up and crashing constantly, which is annoying yes, but that is for another forum.

However the thing that really pisses me off, is how a crash will result in you losing ALL credit for a boss event, even if you have done the entire event! I have had dragon fights which i have waited around for and joined at the very start crash on me at 15%, TWICE TODAY, and in both cases it resulted in getting no credit at all for the kill, and losing the chest at the same time!

So, while it would be nice if Anet could find a way to make the game more stable, It would also be nice if they could at least for starters adjust the way chests work, so that people who get DCed or crash, or freezes up arent denied access to the chest they worked for. Any chance we can see something done in this department? Maybe adjust the criteria for being eligible for a chest?

World bosses are already very unfun to play as the situation is, the least you could do is not to also kick us in the face for trying to survive the lag and horrible framerates.

Rares. Lots of them.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Thuran.7624

I would agree with you, if not for the fact that this change and the influx of rares has resulted in massive improvements to the game.

Namely, the idiotic DR on loot meant that grinding in this game was always a pain, which is a problem in a game as grindy as GW2. Few other games require you to pour so much time into it, namely due to the silly ways precursors were handled, turning the entire endgame into a massive gold grind. If rares were items you hunted for upgrades, I would agree that giving out too many is a problem, but when you need rares not for the stats, but for the potential ectos, and you need 500 ectos for each legendary, in addition to all the other gold required, this change means you can focus a lot more on actually playing the game, over grinding fractals or orr over and over and over and over and over.

By all means, let the price continue to drop and burn, I feel it improves the game and allows me to focus more on playing the way i want, over running shelter for all eternity, and you actually see events which were previously dead get done now!

The core problem is that they decided to make legendaries the endgame, and they decided to make legendaries a massive gold grind, instead of having it be about playing the game. Things like obsidian shards and the skill points are fine. But when you need to pay 100g for shards and recipes, or need to buy 250 lodestones at a price of 2-3g each, things get silly, before even considering the potentially 600g precursor; in a game which is aimed towards keeping you from earning gold due to DR!!!

If they had made legendaries about skill, or about completing a certain number of achievements (gift of mastery is awesome, more of that please!), I would agree the economy would be in troubble, but as it is i WANT to see the economy crash and burn!

Guesting is out of control.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Thuran.7624

Guesting is kittened up at the moment! On claw a few seconds ago, we had 7-8 commanders present, with several people mentioning in the chat that they were jumping servers in order to kill the bosses uptowards 16 times in a day in order to get the chest for all their alts!!

Result? The event begins, the game crashes due to the sheer amount of people present taking it past the 1-2 fps we have seen in the early days of the patch when the zones were overcrowded, and when logging back in, I get thrown into the kitten overflow, meaning I get locked out of the fight and chest I sat around waiting an hour to spawn!!

Please, remove guesting, or at least boot guests if the servers fill up, this is ridiculous!

Don't change the way to obtain legendaries!

in Crafting

Posted by: Thuran.7624

Thuran.7624

As has already been stated. It is misguided to say that legendaries are currently “hard” to get. There is nothing difficult about it, and it is instead based on sheer time put into mindless grind and pure dumb luck in getting the precursors.

Lets take the karka event. 10% of those who did it got a precursor, which means pretty much a free legendary, but did any of those people put in more effort than the others? No, they simply got LUCKY!

This is not how legendaries should work, there shou always be a a point of effort to them, a questline, or something to actually make them feel legendary. Legendaries in Gw2 are not hard to get or about skill, its about your wallet for buying the items needed. You don’t see people complain over the mastery part of the legendaries, or the need to explore the entire map, and I do not remember seeing all that many players complain over the 1 million karma requirement either.

What people have an issue with, is how getting legendaries has NOTHING to do with skill or achieving something in the game! Something like requiring you reach a certain fractal level, that would be more about skill, and would still take a long time, but the difference would be that if you put the time and effort into it, you would be rewarded for it, whereas now you not only simply have to sink time in to grind gold to BUY the legendary, but in addition to that they have put in the frankly kitten diminishing returns to counteract the very thing you have to do to get to it!

If you think spending 500$ to buy an item constitutes making it “hard to get” or shows how “skilled” you are, then you really need to get a clue of how things that actually require work function. Heck, just off the top of my head I can think of the hunter and priest staves from vanilla wow that required you to do certain quests to show skill in your class and people who actually got those items were often a mark of being good at the class.

Ofc, wow decided to also make legendaries a fairly certain drop, but at least they still require you to down some of the hardest bosses of the game (pre-mop) in order to get them, we have nothing like that in GW2.

Meh, the ectos are not that bad, at least you have a consistent way of getting them, whereas the precursors are annoying due to how they are about blind luck, or endless gold grind. Getting at least 10 ectos per fractal run atm.

Has Guild Wars 2 become a grind?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Thuran.7624

You get 10 marks (currently for me) from fractals, you need 1350 to buy an item.

In order to get exotic gear kitted out, pre-gems, you need to run the same dungeons over and over as they are gotten with tokens instead of as drops.

Right now I have done the math. Even if I grind my way to around 3 gold every single day, it will take 4 months at least to get my legendary, which is in addition to grinding 1 million karma for it and the diminishing returns on loot and karma making the grind even longer than in other games as you cannot farm gold properly without forced breaks and everything past a certain point is centered around gold.

The crafting resources for items once at max level have extremely low drop rates, only spawn every few days, or force you into buying them with gold, which runs into the problem outlined above.

GW2 is currently one of the most grindy MMO’s I have ever played almost completely regardless of which field you decide to focus on, and unlike those games, GW2 artificially prolongs the grind with the idiotic diminishing returns that only work to hurt players and force them to pour even more time into it.

Right now, sadly, GW2 focuses more on pure grind and time for rewards as opposed to rewarding people for overcoming something difficult.

Back in the fall, it was announced that the way precursors were aquired would be changed to be more akin to a scavenger hunt in order to reduce the amount of randomness currently present, there your only real choise is to grind gold for months nonstop (funny, i once heard that grind was not supposed to be how this game was run, and yet so far it is one of the most grindy mmo’s I have ever played…..), or just pray, hard, and pray that it works too, for lady luck to grace you with a precursor so you can actually proceed with your legendary weapon.

However, since then there has been no new statements on the matter, and it was completely glossed over in the 2013 preview today, so question to the devs is; When will we get any news or updates on this?!

There! Was that so hard Gaile? ^^
Players ARE reasonable, as long as they are not left completely in the dark. What has been so upsetting the last weeks is that all we got were standard cookie-cutter responses. Players are not stupid, some of us have been doing mmo’s for decades at this point, and most of us are able to recognize when someone is actually talking cooperate to us, which often feels outright insulting because it gives the impression that the company does not give a kitten about us as customers (and to be fair, most companies past a certain size do not give a kitten since they take their customers for granted.). Something as simple as putting aside an hour or two to just communicate with us and actually respond rather than simply bundle up threads and throw in the occasional “be nice to us when we screw you over or we delete your post.”, goes a long way towards adressing concerns.

Hell, it is possible that a simple bit of discussion during the world event, when the first concerns came up could have gone a long way towards preventing the PR disaster that it was. Good work actually communicating, and I hope that we will see you guys do that more often in the future in conjuction with things like this.

20 hours now. I am starting to run out of patience Anet. First of all, none of this would have happened if you had used your brain before launching the event (it does NOT take more than a little common sense to know that if you put AN ENTIRE SERVER in the same spot, things will go awry, yet Anet couldn’t figure this out.), second of all, not only do you not reward those who you set out to reward, but instead end up providing doubble reward to those who had the pure luck of not getting DCed after 3 hours, or those that did not even log in the entire weekend?! And we had to wait weeks for this?! Did you test it or anything, or just threw something together and hoped that it would work the first time you tried it?

Yes, I am tired of having to cut you slack and being reasonable when the result we get back is this, and I am out of patience for today. People have kept mentioning how you could have fixed this, people who DONT GET PAID TO THINK! We are, in theory, to assume the reason you are the devs and we are not is because you are more qualified for the job than we are, in that case, get your act together and prove it!

http://s100.beta.photobucket.com/user/Thuran/media/gw051.jpg.html?sort=3&o=1

However, as you can see, the gauntlets are a problem. Not the model itself, that is fine, but the problem is that they are on fire, which ends up looking out of place. However, I have been unable to locate a set of gauntlets suitable for the set; Most of them are too short and thus leave a huge patch of arm open, which looks odd in a set that otherwise represents full armour. The only other gauntlets that maybe could work, are the AC explorable ones, however they bulge out unnaturally and again look out of place on a set that otherwise focuses more on angles. The draconic ones came close, but they also suffered from being too short, and so far it seems these are the only long plated gauntlets I can find. Any suggestions?

Also, I am not convinced about which colour to put on the cloth parts, thoughts? Prefer something that would not be too aggressive or vivid.

Oh, and on a sidenote; do you think we will ever get the option of transmuting across armour types so I can make this set come true? XD http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m17/Thuran/gw022-1.jpg

That said, yeah, norn body temperature is higher to likely they could simply be feeling hot, however a lot of norn armor also features pelts, so not entirely convinced it is a question of feeling too hot.

As has been mentioned, historically norse women were considered equal to the men, although in different areas. While the men were the farmers and traders (in truth, VERY few norse did the entire raiding thing and most raiding accounts came from romans trying to describe how evul the norse barbarians were.), the women were the true masters of the house. There is a reason it was the women who had the keys to the place. This is true evenmoreso for norn who can only get married if they are equal to one another, and only after having a witness for each testify to that effect. Anyway, divorces were not a big historical problem in norse society and is rarely adressed except in sagas where the women “divorce” in bloody and frankly quite entertaining ways.

So, with a basis in how one of the closest things to a both-sexes-equal society we have had (much better off than the west nowadays anyway…), I would say that divorces are quite rare, but also very easy to carry through if you end up wanting one. Especially since the marriage isn’t based as much around how hot someone is, money, or other fleeting superficial factors like that, but instead is built on mutual respect for one another from the very beginning.

However, something has been gnawing at me; why are the stats on the legendaries sometimes so radically different from the precursors? For example, the greatsword precursors are dps sword, whereas their legendary counterparts are tanking swords. Wouldn’t it make more sense if the legendary had stats that reflected the precursors?

Also, due to how legendaries work, we cannot change the stats either without losing the “free” upgrade each time a new tier of items comes along, which seems to limit legendaries by stats rather than by looks and screw over people who changed the stats of their legendaries before Fotm was released, any plans to adress this somehow?

This should fit the lore subforum, but if not, feel free to shout at me.

So, during a recent RP-session we realized that while things like norn marriage procedures have been covered, there is little to no info regarding how norns actually view relationships in general.

Do they lean towards one-night stands, or more prone to sticking to someone?
If in an actual relationship, would they tend to go about it as a closed or open relationship?
While it is assumed that once they go into marriage territory, the status of the relationship moves to closed and monogamous, is this actually the case?

Their strong sense of individuality and personal freedom would seem to indicate that they tend to have a rather open view on relationships and sexuality rather than tie themselves down until they find their equal, but still, what kind of evidence do we have to lean on in regards to figuring out how the step between “chastity” and “married” works?

Swamp fractal

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Thuran.7624

Thuran.7624

I agree. The swamp fractal is a lesson in how to make bad gameplay and I hope whatever idiot made it is sitting in a corner far away from competent devs right now.

Yes, I do use the word idiot, because it’s simple game design 101 – When making any challenge in a game, especially involving time, you NEVER make the success of it dependant on random luck. And if you decide to involve random factors, which is fairly common in larger boss fights, you give the players a way to deal with it, rather than have it be “bad luck, you lose.”

The traps are fine, having to figure out the paths is fine, having varied things based on the location, such as the spiders, is fine because players can learn of them being there and learn to adapt and overcome them.

What is NOT fine are the walls, and to a far lesser degree the mossman. The walls would work if it was possible to take them into account, but since they are on random timers, and their activation is not connected to anything else (trust me, I had to spend 2 hours watching walls due to always running on the same wisp on that one go, so I noticed.) that means that they are the equivalent of rolling a d100 and most of the time simply going “oh sorry, bad luck, you lose.” and shutting off the path to the players, while on a timer that makes alternative routes near impossible for the northern points. If the timer allowed you to accomodate for it, fine, it is something you have the ability to adapt for. Or if there was always an alternative, also fine. However it is not uncommon for the kitten walls to close off an entire section of the area, making the run impossible even if you had 10 seconds more time. The mossman is just annoying and pointless, but the walls make this easily one of the most unfun experiences I have ever had in an mmo, which is a real shame because the vast majority of the other fractals are completely fine, most are in fact outright great, but you get this one fractal in your run and you may as well cancel it and start all over or risk spending 2-3 hour hoping the game will RANDOMLY allow the walls to allign so you can make it in time!

Thanks for ruining an otherwise good dungeon, whoever made this.

Dynamic Event Laziness

in Dynamic Events

Posted by: Thuran.7624

Thuran.7624

Socialism doesn’t work in real life nor in a game. This needs to be reworked to reward the productive and not the lazy.

You may want to look up real life; not only do the most socialist societies currently provide the highest living standards in the entire world, but they are also some of the richest countries in the world and have survived the crisis largely unscathed and are currently returning to economic growth while the most capitalist societies are about to cave in and their citizen live in ever-increasing misery. In real life, Socialism has proven itself stronger than almost any other model.

In terms of the game “only rewarding those who work for it” is what gave us mob-tagging, which is exactly what has led to the destruction of social interaction in other mmo’s whereas the ability to work together is what has given GW2 a community far and above the rest.

That said, I do agree that it is currently far too easy to get gold in an event and far too beneficial to only to enough to get gold and then move on to the next event. However the only real way to adress this is to make it more profitable to stick with one event than doing two at the same time, and simply saying “you need to do X dmg more than currently” is not going to work since it damages classes that focuses less on damage.

Another problem is doing so while avoiding unfairly punishing people who dont get rezzed. Often you can miss most of an event due to corpse-running time when people are too busy doing damage to help you back up, that said, rezzing already contributes greatly to event credit, so it is not that big of a concern.

I guess make it harder to get gold and increase the rewards so that 1 gold is better than 2 bronze, or equal, would be my solution, even if it will make the grind nastier (you could reduce bronze rewards, but never a good idea to make an already insane grind worse.)

Also, being limited to 2 legendaries due to the gifts of exploration does put a dampener on certain legendaries; have yet to see anyone even considering making the underwater ones for instance.
