I actually find Necros to have one of the best downed state in the game.
Best:
Necromancer: Life Steal + Dmg, Fear to keep them off of you (does good dmg is traited) and poison. It’s overall pretty good dmg + the heal from life steal.
In theory, yes. No practice, no. You fear one foe. Great, others are still there delivering nice damage. The heal is rarely sufficient enough to heal while the damage is just to low. There is nothing with what would you buy time so you could rally.
We are not talking about dying against a single target or two of them. Against multiple ones.
Thanks for the advice, though.
I haven’t played for a while and started playing again shortly before the patch. Until then I played here and there. Of course I went back to my lovely necromancer.
Now I have a small problem. Everytime I get downed and try to fight for my life, I get the feeling that it is a futile mission.
Is there something I didn’t grasp yet or am I doing something wrong (well except the fact that I am dying)?
I would be thankful for any ideas and advice.
Some scenarios, PvE:
1.) Five or six warriors/guardians/thief/ keep smaching at me: Well I have Life Leech, which targets one enemy. And it is super slow. Fear targets only one enemy. Fetid ground … well pretty useless. Most of the times I am dead before I can triger it. If I can, it is too late anyways.
2.)Champions: So I am lying there and … Fear ifs often useless. Often I get th hnice red text invulnerable on my screen or the boss stops for 3 secs, seems to stare at me, and keeps attacking me. In any case: I am dead really fast.
3.)AoE: In case of AoE: you are just lying there, and hoping that a team member comes up and saves you, which is a pretty stupid idea in case of any AoE damage like burning, poisen, etc. Otherwise you just hope to survive. Just lying there and chillin’!
4.)Couple of Ranged targets : They are standing all apart, so you can decide which one to leech, fear, poisen, until you hope fullyrally. To spice things up: imagine some melee classes hitting you.
So, how do you do it?
Don’t get me wrong, I am not complaining that you are dead in case you fail to rally. I mean you are down and dying and fighting for suvivial. But somehow you lack all of the survivability. We play a class which symbolizes and thrives in death, so why are so week in death? I rondevoused with Thief and Mesmer and one thing struck me. While the thief can disappear and come up in a different location and a mesmer can set up illusion to distract foes, why don’t we have the ability to summon ghosts, to bury ourselves like a dead body, to blind foes with flies or use fear in an AoE manner.
I mean our skills make us pretty much an easy immobile target. We just lie there and hope to fear away one target, while the rest just thinks meh, not so scary, or we hope to DoT our enemies to death, while they keep up with their dps. In a fight with champions like Lupi: we lack some of the evading factors of other class anyways, so as a necro you might get downed and then with his AoE … well dead.
My guess is that some stone elementals in old ascalon got the best of her cause she was lagging too much…….
Always those laggs! :/
Evennia was terrific. I was glad to see her make an appearance here and there as the post-EotN content was introduced, but I’d like to know her fate.
As plot-mechanic-y as Saidra’s death was, it was nice to get some closure with her ashes.
I think it is ( I hope it is not) like mercury said. They wanted to evolve the story, but time was crucial and GW2 more important.
I would like to have an answer from a dev, since they were the ones who said, that Evennia will be quite important later on? Just want to know how up-to-date the info still is
Need 2nd confirmation on this:
- Sinking Tomb has infinite range rather than the listed 1200, and does not require LoS and can hit targets on land.
Sinking Tomb: confirmed, hits targets on land and seems to “sink” them.
Also Trident Skill #1 hits also on land, but range seems to work.It is quite easy to kill targets this way, since targets don’t go into water ( as long as they are not aquatic like skale or drakes). They just stand there at the water while you spam #1 and bleed them to death.
I played circus and sister so far.
My main plays a noble with a lost sister. Why? Well, I didn’t like the idea that my hero wouldn’t know who his parents are ( of course he knows about his great ancestor from GW 1. And the whole circus didn’t felt serious enough and ot of place (and what kind of noble would join a circus). I mean, either you lost your parents or dead sister …. or regret that you didn’t join a circus?
Don’t get me wrong, I think it is a fun idea and I chose this option for my alt thief, but for my main I wanted to have something serious.
Although some will disagree, I liked the sister storyline. It was interesting, I enjoyed it, the end was a bit awkward and I didn’t regret that I chose it.

One more time: Kormir did not become a deity because of killing abaddon. No, a group of Heroes, Kormir and all the story-important character did.
Kormir turned into a goddes because she absorbed Abaddons wisdom, power and all the mysteries and secrets, it stood for, and which were about to get lost for ever. Kormir decided to "soak " it in. And that why she became a goddess. Not because she killed Abaddon, but because she absorbed everything Abaddon stood for.
She is not an overrated hero, put into godlike-status by mortals. She became a truly deity by taking Abaddon place.
The mortal hero who helped her to is the player of Guild Wars 1.
Well, smoeone was talking today about some important character from GW 1. And it struck me.
What happened to her?
After War in Kryta and Gwens wedding, she went to Ascalon to forge a pact between Ascalon and Kryta. Last known location was Old Ascalon.
Anet have hinted that Evennia is part of something larger and important. So, whats up with her?
There was an update today. Some necro stuff was fixed … but it is a bit disappointing^^
You do bring up a good point. An alarming number of fantasy settings seem to insist on destroying locations that fans claim to adore, only to then go on to give that particular region an unsatisfying fate. An excellent example would be either Ascalon, Lordaeron or Morrowind.
With that said, Arena Net have been very good with preserving a lot of the visual appeal of Ascalon, complete with many throwbacks and heartfelt references. Now we just need some of the Ascalonian ‘grit’ from GW1 to be applied to the humans of GW2 so they stop fawning all over Jennah and don’t just forget all their past conflicts for the sake of unity with races they really shouldn’t care all that much about.
I think its less about if they care about other races as much as self interest. Humanity lacks the strength to deal with threats like the dragons. They are barely managing the Centaur. Unity with the other races is in the humans best interests at this point. Being all jaded over a war that happened 250 years earlier and stubbornly refusing to move on would be pretty stupid behaviour.
Seriously people have to deal with the fact that the humans lost the war to the charr. Better that humans dont lose one to the centaur or lose everything to the dragons at this point.
Hmmm, honestly I think you are wrong. During the Charr invasion there were three human empires: Kryta, Orr and Ascalon.
Ascalon got destroyed but the kindgom existed for some years and got annihilated in the foefire. Win for Charr.
Orr destroyed itself and the invading Charr armies. Well, both lost.
Kryta stopped the Charr invasion. The Charr stayed in Ascalon and kept fighting Asclon until the foefire.
I don’t think there were any winners. Charr got their old lands,w inning against Ascalon, but lost to Kryta. Ascalonians actually disliked and didn’t trust people from Kryta.
In Guild Wars Beyond your hero was part of the group which forged the pact between Queen Salma of Kryta and the Ebon Vanguard.
The King of Ascalon never approved of it. Thats why Kryta was helping the Ebon Vanguard. I think it is a mistake to see the human race as a united race. Well in GW2 maybe it is, but 250 ago… I don’t think so.
I agree. Let’s look at the heros accomplishments from GW1.
The story of almost everyone hero:
The hero survived the first great fire which destroyed Ascalon, together with Rurik he led the Ascalonian exodus from Ascalon to Kryta, helped the Shining Blade to fight the White Mantle, passed all trials of the old, killed the King of the Stonesummit and fullfilled the flameseeker prophecy and destroyed one champion of Abaddon. After that he/she destroyed the Titans, went to Cantha, rose to the champion of his/her faction, stopped the plague and killed the second champion of Abaddon, and become a national hero. After Cantha he/she went to Elona, stopped the war and killed the third champion of Abaddon, destroyed the god in the end and helped Kormir to ascend into godhood. After it he/she cleaned up a lot, destroying the last minions of Abaddon, the remnants of the Stone Summit, helped Balthazar to regain power over his realm, in the Underworld he/she beat the god of a god (dhuum) and than united the people of Tyria against The Great Destroyer, beating him and stopping Primordius. Then he/she, just like that, rescued Queen Salma of Kryta and won her war against the White Mantle, establishing her as Queen. In the end he/she cleaned up in Cantha. THE END.
And 250 years later noone mentions the hero? I dont think it would be a problem implementing some stories and stuff about all of this into the game. Maybe some quests, some info scattered all around Tyria and stuff like this.
Accounts without a connected HoM would read/see the Name “the hero of heroes” (just an idea), and people with connected HoM would read one of their char names from GW1 (I guess they could choose the char).
The whole story from GW1 influenced my character in GW2 a lot. I am a human noble (well, my ancestors helped to establish Queen Salma power, I guess they were rewarded and they would have stayed well connected with her family ), with Ascalonian origin (250 years are a long time, but nevertheless… the family heritage is not forgotten) and so on.
Even a whole personal questline would be possible with that background. You know, after kicking Zhaitans butt, you will get a letter from Jenna saying 1.) that this reminds her when your ancestors helped her ancestors and she would like to ask you for a favour (if noble) OR 2.) that some research in your past showed that your ancestor is a hero (if streetrat/beggar/homeless/whatever) OR 3.) well .. same as homeless guy.^^ !
Would only work for humans tho.
What do you think about it?
Yes, it is very annoying. Almost all of my stuff I had tried to sell to highest buyers didn’t work since it is not possible to sell below vendor price.
The problem is that I can’t see the second highest buyer.
For instance yesterday: Highest buyer was 89c (below vendor price). Lowest seller was something like 8s.
They should make it impossible to give such offers. That would fix that problem.
By the way. Do you guys miss the option for direct trading? something like click on character and use: Trade. Similar to the whisper option.
Durmand Priory Quests with Hylek, all of them.
Played them two hours ago. Neither of the hylek nor magister sieran were talking.
Actually, Sieran has this problem in another quests too.
+1
I really like this post. You might post it under suggestions, too .
It sums up a lot of things which I experienced. Necro is terrible to play. So far only Death Shroud makes it playable… more or less. I really like the idea behind Necro and as my main it almost hurts me to see this class in such a state.
Having played with Engineer and Warrior a bit. Right now I am considering to reroll.
