Yes huge thanks, were two of my big gripes, especially as I often use a GS.
That said, I’m not sure if it’s because those two skills really slowed your flow down or what, but it feels like all 5 gs skills have been sped-up, not just the two listed.
I wouldn’t rate them like that.
Sword is pretty obviously somewhat different, since it’s melee.
Scepter is very low power, but creates extra clones (I did some math on this on gw2guru, in max-clone situations with all utility support skills it still creates ~50% more clones than other weapons do, in fact it requires you to use Signet of Illusions in those situations, or you cannot keep using up the Clones fast enough).
Staff and Greatsword are entirely different. Staff is a multi-attack Condition heavy support heavy weapon, Greatsword is a more single-target focused long-range weapon, both have ok~great multi-target capabilities. In other words, they are difficult to compare because I can’t think of many situations where I’d want to use more than one of them. :P
Not sure why everyone seems to consider GS a single target wpn when 4 of 5 skills are AOE?
Can’t wait to try it, was truly my only complaint with that wpn set… now to fix awkward 1h sword skill 3 and I’m gold Z.z
How would 5vs5 reduce a zerg mentality. Surely 8vs8 actually increases your strategic options.
One of the most boring aspects of WoW BGs was the “defending”. Sitting on a point for a whole game that no one ever attacks, and if they do its a whole zerg that you just die to anyway.
Also you say that players won’t afk for glory because you don’t need it for gear upgrades. However, you can use the same logic against your argument that players just zerg for the points.
I’m partly being the devils advocate, because I have seen the games you talk about; but I also get a lot of close games and non zerg games, and almost all the time it is a fun experience.
I don’t know why, but it just played very differently in 5vs5 than it does in 8vs8.
wow. While I agree rewards leave much to be desired as far as random drops, and thay they can be challenging… that’s what I like about them?
When im pvping in normal bg’s my goal naturally is to win the game but as gw2 is now, its no point to it.
on several occasions when enemy team moves in 1 huge ball, ive found it easy to outmove them, ninja their points and win the game but ive come to realize that its not worth it.
When enemy team is zerging they nearly always win the teamfights and the whole team is getting kills.
Usually when this scenario is happening, the enemy team players have +100 points more than players in my team, even if we win the game, we get maybe 30 bonus points from the actual win… i find this rather silly.
+1 this exactly.
I’ve been solo winning games since they introduced the 6 gods forsaken 8vs8. Just outmaneuver the zerg and win the game. But it’s not worth it, yo u get far less points than simply being with the zerg.
Personally I absolutely despise 8v8. Spvp went from being the “surprise feature” I really enjoyed (I’m not usually a pvp-in-a-box person) in BWE1 to something I’m not even playing anymore now that we’re live.
Anet, please bring back 5vs5 hotjoin. I understand your reasoning for having 8vs8 although I do not agree with the result, but why can’t you have both and let us the players decide what we want to play? Plus, it would be a much better practice platform four tournies.
(and yes I can play tournies for 5vs5 but I’d like the option for casual 5vs5 hot join as well).
Kung : discussions don’t change the game or what issues someone is having with said game. If you’re not having fun, why stick around ?
I know i’m having loads of fun (avoiding hearts as much as possible) but that’s a playstyle difference, can’t make one game for everyone :P
I wish they had never put in hearts. People complain it’s too “linear” but then they refuse to do anything but follow hearts around.
Games not for you, check out something else. Good luck finding some better fitting gaming entertainment.
People like you should get out of the forums. He’s giving his thoughts on the game, hoping to discuss the parts that he feels isn’t living up to his standards, and there you are – telling him to move along and forget about the game.
Do you even realize what forums are for, man?
I don’t think you realize what they’re for actually. There’s no point in discussing this, he’s made up his mind (which is fine). The game’s not for him, he moves on. Simple as that.
Any I guess, but you generally lose alot of dps and playstyle utility by refusing to ever go melee (rangers I’m looking at you). Exception of course for elementalist with ranged wpn and engineers who have a different dynamic altogether.
My experience is completely different and you should look to understanding what the different fields do. Taking hits while you have chaos armor on, or releasing cleansing bolts etc is quite helpful. It depends on the fight.
Sorry but I don’t see it. After leveling my first character I’m back at it for round two with my second. I have yet to see any “dead DEs” on my server.
Yep same. Also, I’ve always gone out of my way to find the less popular DEs, the zergs are just boring.
I’d like to hear what you liked about it.
ArenaNet has some great videos out there showcasing GW2. I’ve seen lots of them and I can see how much thought and love they put into this beautiful game.
I’m having an awesome time exploring their brilliant creation.
This commercial just got me confused, because it looked to be their first TV-like commercial, and it didn’t seem to know what it was trying to say.
Oh, I won’t argue that point. The Gamescom 2011 trailer is far and away the best trailer for GW2 overall…but bear in mind that one was designed with hooking gamers for GW2, whereas this one seems to be directed at non-gamers.
And that’s why I say I find it cool, if not mind-blowingly spectacular. If Joe Schmo is sitting in front of a Big Bang Theory episode during the Christmas season, how will he react when he sees the running girl with her spray paint (assuming he doesn’t note the disparity between the color she paints and the color on the can), the firewalking kids, the swimming broad in a kittentail dress who suddenly morphs into a Norn warrior? Will he note the GW2 logo and head for his computer to find out what it’s all about?
I bet some of you work in advertising and can shed some light.
;)
I would have fired my agency had they come up with that copy and that concept tbh. Thankfully, the trailer isn’t needed to get me hooked into gw2 Z.z
Just adding my thanks as well. Great job Anet on having a vision for your game and delivering it, best mmo experience in years.
As a comms and marketing person I professionally found it off, personally I positevely hated it. Glad I never saw that when debating buying GW2…
- Those achievements are account wide so all contribute and all can cancel it
- The reason it stays at a fixed number is because thats the highest you have achieved. If you got it to 80K and died, it will read 80K until you pass that amount of XP w/o dying.
Yes, this is correct.
Also, logging out of the game will reset the exp gain.
except mine never budged from zero.
Do the "On using Healing Skill" effects of Runes trigger off of more than just #6 skills?

No idea, I’ve given up trying to figure it all out until they put in decent tooltips…
In general I find armor and wpns too easy to get, and the cultural tier3 just seems way out of line with all the others. I’m not against, I think it should be harder in general.
Skritt… I’d play a skritt in an instant just to hear my character say stuff…
Profession armors pls.
I’m not a fan of most light armor skins tbh but I’ve found sets I like for my ele and necro. My Mesmer, which is my main, however is seriously lacking a “mesmerizing magical duellist” looking set. I was also hoping there would be something as some of the NPCs wear but… no luck it seems. Profession armors (possibly with more sets added as time goes by) a la GW1 would be helpful…
Bring back 5vs5 hotjoin.
Before it became 8vs8 it was the most fun I had in pvp in a box, ever. I’m not a big pvp fan in general but in 5vs5 I really had a blast. Now, I can’t even make myself play. I really dislike the 8vs8 zerg and I just won’t play it. I’m pretty sure other people feel this way as well but don’t want to have to do a tournie for whatever reason. As Anet’s credo is fun and play as you want, well… I want to play an occasional 5vs5 hotjoin game!
Edit: Added the spvp bit…

Elementalist damage is waaaay lower, just saying, and we die much faster
You’re doing it wrong then, mate.
As far as I know (and what I’ve done for tailoring) the mats are as follows to get the recipe at the Mystic forge:
- 1 Chest armor piece
- 5 Wines
- 20 Crystals
- 50 Mystic coins
That nets you the recipe… which is perfectly useless. You’re better off just making each item.
If you were using the mystic forge and not trying to discover it then this post is useless to you and I would suggest making a bug report.
Edit: Wrote something that was totally wrong,

Also interested in this. Seems to be it must be a bug or what is the point of doing this? (besides stupidly wasting your mats in the forge to get the recipe and then to make the satchel)
