Also lurker.
For me the story is the one outstanding failure in GW2.
All their art, 3D design, mechanics… Anet can produce beautiful, intelligent, interesting, unique, top-of-their-game content.
And then the story is treated like an afterthought. Just a complete lack of the class and polish that the rest of the game comes with. Really weird.
Can’t blame the writers. I’m sure they are about as pleased with the story as we are, no decent writer could look at it and say “yeah nailed it”. There was a crunch or some cuts or something. Pretty obvious when half your cast has literally nothing to say.

I just want to see health bars for everyone around me without grouping. Not too mad about anything else.
Either health bars for everyone or a better way of seeing player characters. If I’m supposed to watch the combat and respond to big hits, supposed to be able to tell when players are damaged without health bars, then please give me a better way of tracking players.
Having a dozen or so ‘Longname McRunsallovertheplace the Entitled Titler of Titles’ jiggling everywhere really isn’t helpful but having player names turned on is the best way I’ve found to track people.
Maybe a little green circle under their feet or something? Y’know… like all the other games?

TD – Escort Agent Arwyna to the Ogre Camp – lost event credit right at the end.
I was solo almost all the way, never went far from her, didn’t die. Right at the end someone else joined (for 2-3 mobs) and then as soon as we were done with the last mob, just after leaving the huge tree, I lost credit (UI blurb went grey).

Nothing to add to the discussion. I’m just exceptionally ****ing salty.
Anet have done a beautiful, beautiful thing with HoT. The open-world leaves me gobsmacked, it’s enough to just walk around and soak it all up, let alone the bazillion things to do…
But as final bosses go this is the poop on the ice-cream sundae. Finally ragequit after about two hours of bug after bug after bug. How do you make an expansion this good and then mess it up this badly at the end?
Running it with a zerker/soldier Ranger, dying isn’t a problem. Just obvious, gamebreaking, timewasting bugs that should never have made it to release.
Feel a bit better now, aaaaah :p

They are similar because they draw from the same sources, plus a pinch of modern environmentalism thrown in.
The forests looks similar because… c’mon! They’re magic forests! How many ways can you make a leaf glow?
Am I the only one who thinks Anet are missing a trick with this train running thing?
They’re supposed to have a ‘Living World’ that differentiates the game from other MMOs but most players play it just like any other MMO… farming identical encounters over and over.
I mean… wouldn’t the bandits have realised they were a bit screwed after thousands of times of dozens of players zerging through them and killing their boss? Wouldn’t it be fun if the train got wrecked by a surprise counter? Traps? Boars perhaps developing rudimentary intelligence and ganging up on their vicious predators?
I got an exotic in my first week of playing, from the train. Monsoon. Totally worthless to a Thief. Wasn’t going to roll a new character just because I got a drop. Sold it. Exotics have to drop somewhere… but a tiny random chance isn’t really enough to justify handing new players the most powerful items in the game.
I’ll do my normal thing for a couple of hours which, unless the dailies are really savage, will usually get me to 3/5 or 4/5.
Then I’ll focus in on the last one.
If there’s a couple of really simple/enjoyable ones then I’ll drop everything and do those first (ambient killer… so satisfying…)
For the record…
I managed to get through it. Finally. I was probably trying to run it at too high a resolution (1600×900). If you’re having the same problem (starts fine but then everything kinda freezes except you can still run around and there’s a minute’s lag on damage and attacks) try turning the resolution down.
I turned everything down to lowest setting, 1024×768, V-synch and 60Hz refresh limit forcing ~30fps. Looked like crap, the dragon fight at the end was rubbish but it worked.
My specs aren’t amazing. New-ish Dell laptop, Core i5-3210M 2.5GHz, GeForce GT 650M, 6 Gb RAM. But it’s well over minimum spec.
I was running the game with graphics on autodetect, plus AA, at 1600×900, everything except the epic-scale story missions has run perfectly, 45-60 fps.
Now I guess I’ll have to experiment some more when I get the next game-breaking epic-scale mission.

Riiiiise, rise from the depths! Mwahahahahaaaaa!
But seriously though, I am now having this problem as well and this is the most recent, relevant topic.
Retribution is crashing, no matter what graphics settings I have it on, as soon as I step off the ship and 10 or so Risen spawn. Plz help.
I’m really new (lvl 11 Thief, lol) but I’m already feeling the difficulty of stealth compared to what I’m used to. Bursts of three seconds isn’t really enough.
I’m used to Warhammer Online (yeah, I know. It was awesome though…) where you could spend near enough half your time running around stealthed. How does one use stealth in GW2 to annoy people as much as this thread makes out?
EXCEPT…
“I’ll pass this along to the Pale Tree”, where ‘pass’ rhymes with ‘mass’. Whoever it is has a very nice voice but that ‘pass’ would get her a hiding at finishing school :p
