Okay, there are still some crashes. We are going to turn it back off at 11:25 pacific time (or so). We encourage you to get a raid team together and get in and have some fun.
We have gathered more data from this experiment but it’s getting late. I don’t know (honestly) if we will try again tomorrow or not.
Thank you for your patience.
Where does it crash?
If its raid only from the last boss and only affects the raid group, I’d honestly just leave it like that. Because then at least we can experience most of it…
Since he’s busy wiping in the raid, :P I’ll answer. It’s the type of crash that is causing people’s chats to break, getting stuck in pvp matches, unable to leave squads and parties they are already in, etc. (Across the entire live game)
When we go to red portal, it is greyed out, but we are in a squad, hellp? do we need 10 ?
We’re turning it back off because of the instability, but when you do get a chance to try it again, you have to change your squad to a raiding squad. Somewhere on my list of stuff to do I’ve got a task to make that better messaged.
While Enhanced Squad UI is enabled you cannot be in a party and a squad at the same time. Reform your squad to take advantage of the full enhanced squad functionality.
That said, we are still having some stability issues…
Thank you all for your patience to day. It’s been pretty crazy here, but I think we squashed all the major issues. Definitely let us know if you find any more. Glhf.
What’s a funny story about something that’s happened to you or your party while play-testing Raids?
Me complaining that Crystal’s bosses are too hard, her telling me to shut-up and suck less (or something to that effect).
So are you the one paying all the chiropractor bills?
Hah! I’m not even allowed on the playtest team. I’m what is colloquially called a “bad” I believe? But that’s ok, they say the same things to dev playtest team too.
I write code for player facing systems and try to support designers with their crazy ideas. To date I’ve worked on the “Royal Club” program for China, outpost and other random tech in the upcoming Jungle maps, and a bunch of improvements to our scripting system to allow designers to make their content a bit faster. Oh, I did all the those party changes several months ago where it logs the votes to kick when we increased the kick requirement to 3/5, so that was cool.
What has been your involvement with Raids?
I did all the initial set-up to make the raid instances work the way we want (entrance for 10 man squads, checkpoints, etc.) and be a tightly controlled environment (keeping players in combat for the encounter, no rezzing mid-encounter, etc.). I’ve also been working on implementing the enhanced squad UI and the new commander functionality that comes with that.
What feature of Raids are you most excited about?
Legendary Armor, though I despair ever managing to acquire it.

What was your favorite encounter from the existing dungeon/fotm content? Why?
Swamp wisp running. I remember early fractals being so frustrated and never being able to pull it off (wanting to re-roll if we started with swamp), now it’s like, let’s just re-roll until we get swamp. Too easy now that I’ve figured it out.
And don’t worry about me making the raids too easy. :P The designers just ignore all my whinging. Though maybe I should add in some code for… if Trevor… then ezKill…
I’ve tried out all the classes to various degrees, and yes, every class has strong melee builds. Honestly my favorite class to play melee has been Sword/Dagger Ranger, (Greatsword was also pretty good). Your natural skill rotation causes you to stick to them very well, you just have to be careful to not accidentally go flying off a cliff. A lot of people find that really frustrating so you’ll just have to try everything out and see what you like.
If you haven’t already, you can enter the PvP lobby with any character and try out builds. So go ahead and make characters that you think might be interesting and see how it feels for yourself in heart of the mists.
Personally, I played the entire game solo. There is never a requirement to group up outside of dungeons and fractals. That said, playing with a group on most anything can really enrich your experience. I highly encourage you to find a guild of people you get along with and play with them doing whatever.
Hmm, I love getting them. Once I finish my 8th alt so I have all the classes I’ll use them on new characters to 1)Run through the personal story, 2)Map complete, and finally 3) Cash out the skill points for w/e.
At minimum you get skill points out of them, with a little more effort you get all the level up rewards.
“Once I finish my 8th alt so I have all the classes”
8 alts + 1 main = 9 classes! New class confirmed

The PAX-announcement will be the biggest in GW2 history. Wouldn’t hire biggest theatre and cba to get game lead there for nothing.
Gameplay programmers doesn’t post curiosity like that very often, it is usually done by the communication staff. And why would he out of all devs post here, if he wasn’t involved in and closely kept watch of the topic? That involvement is probably “programmer of race and class gameplay” btw.
:p They’re trying to get us more involved in the forums. I was just looking for an excuse to talk about Asura Master-Race
Well, since I’ve already done 3 Asura master-race. I’d probably have to go with a Human. I haven’t done join the circus yet, and I hear it’s pretty good, so I’d have to check that out.
They go through several colors based on your level difference:
-8 or more is Grey
-7 to -6 is Green
-5 to -4 is Light Green
-3 to -2 is Greenish White
-1 to +1 is White
+2 to +3 is Light Pink
+4 to +5 is Pink
+6 to +7 is Light Red
+8 is Red
+9 is Deep Red
+10 or more is Magenta
My first character and main until a couple of weeks ago was a MM Necro, so that would definitely be my vote. :P These other guys are a little bit right though, I do get dissed from time to time, but I think that happens with most classes.
I had the most trouble of those 3 with my thief. Probably my build wasn’t so good (I went Pistol/Pistol for a Bond theme). In the end they all work though, so it really comes down to your preference. I’d say don’t worry about it too much, if you change your mind later it shouldn’t be too difficult to switch back.
