Hey there,
First of all sorry about this, I’ve been looking for the answer to this for some time but I couldn’t find it so I decided to post it here.
I’m a min-max freak, I just feel like with the state of this game’s dungeons, a player has to create his own goals or the game will drop to the point of the uninstal button starting to seem appealing..
So, I’ve been wondering, for speedclear / record attempts, some ppl would run the usual Force / Night Sigil combo for Night dungeons and Force / Slaying for Day dungeons. But Is that really the best option?
Let’s stay reasonable for a sec.. Most ppl can’t afford 1000000x Ascended Weapons (at least I don’t) so that Force / Night combo should be the most used.. But is an Ascended with Force Sigil an increase over an exotic weapon with a Slaying Sigil?
Because for Night dungeons, Night / Slaying combo should be better and since the ascended weapons seem to have a problem when doing dungeons below level 80 (or was that fixed?) the usual exotic weapons should be able to get an advantage with Slaying sigil over the Ascended with Force, but this ofc is just a thought, maybe even a fail one.
So, what do you guys think / know about this?

Hey there, I’ve been playing GW2 for a while but to be honest I never payed much attention to Guardian until now.. Now I was thinking of creating a new character aiming mainly for Dungeons / Fractals and was thinking about guardian..
So.. How is Guardian in PvE? How’s Guardian DPS? I know Guardian is a more “support oriented” class but I really hate feeling like I hit like a wet noodle.. I wouldn’t mind some WvW or SPvP insight aswell but PvE is where I got doubts..

It depends.. The Fire Precision Trait helps alot maintaining the 10% while burning trait up.. Bountiful Power is 1% damage increase PER boon.. you would need pretty much 4boons + a few stacks of might to make the difference noticeable.. And in PuGs (I assume you PuG from your first post) that’s actually not easy to get.. So, in my opinion the Fire traits are safer.. But you can always change and test if for yourself.
Tempest Defense is an awesome trait if you are CCing the target.. Say, if you want to use an IceBow #5 on a boss, for those seconds Tempest Defense grants a 20% increase in damage to that target. So, if your group was CCing trash mobs and bosses it would be fine to use it.. But usually it’s used with FGS, LH is not fast enough to be worth using that trait.. There are lots of better options to trait into..

So, I’ve been playing for some time and pretty much running dungeons with a few guildies but I’m getting bored or the everyday dungeon tours.. And one of my guildies has been super annoying with the “go solo arah amg noob you are afraid” crap.. I didn’t want to feel forced into starting the solos because I’d just get kittened at my failures etc.. I wanted to start on my own, no pressure, with nobody to give me the “amg you died noob” treatment as I’m used to.. And well, I just went there last night.. I went on my thief, started on p2 and I got to lupi with no problems at all.. Died once on belka, bad positioning, but killed her next try, and killed abomination on the first try.. Died on lupi twice with that barrage he does on p2, probably dodging too late.. Whatever..
Anyway, I thought of coming here to ask those who have experience in Arah soloing to clear some of my doubts..
1- I got an Ele, Thief, Warrior, Mesmer and Engi.. I went there with thief and got to lupi but I always heard that one should start with warrior to solo since it’s the most forgiving class due to its survivability and damage.. Is this accurate? Forget the “go with what you want”.. Should I start soloing with warrior first?
2- Is p2 the best path to start learning? Or is there another Arah path that should be learned first due to being easier / faster?
3- I don’t really like those Experimental Rifle skips that some ppl do and post on youtube claiming its a legit solo.. That ruins the experience imo so other than the regular feathers / spykits / hylek poison bag, are there consumables that help the solos? I know of the ogre whistles and the elemental powders but I didn’t have those so I would just take the grub and Dagger Storm to get stability and killed it.. Are those worth taking?
I’m not really looking to solo these paths to sell them, I’m trying to start this to get some challenge if you know what I mean.. Maybe when I get all this down I can think about it but not yet.. So any advices you guys give me will be appreciated even if it makes the runs go slower than normal I don’t mind..

Glad you asked. Let’s use the wiki and compare the base damage. Equal buffs (food, might) will multiply these values equally
The Fiery Rush line ticks 80 damage, lasts 3 seconds, and consists of 12 patches. Multiplying these numbers gives 2880 damage.
The Bear Form Charge hits multiple times for 609 damage, but the wiki doesn’t say how often it hits. If it hits at least 5 times, it actually outdamages Fiery Rush. Most movement skills hit bosses 4 times, but I personally haven’t tried Charge yet. I’d call that “close to” fgs.
Bonus: 100b+Whirlwind Attack deals 3066 damage on the same cooldown as Fiery Rush (these CDs can be reduced by traits). That’s also “close to” fgs.
As you see, all FGS really does is provide warrior-esque DPS for the ele and a second player (oh, now I see why FGS should be nerfed). So stop claiming that it does quadruple damage of anything else in the game.
Too bad all that kitten math is wrong..
In case you didn’t know, Fiery Rush ticks 68 times in those 3 seconds.. according to your numbers Fiery Rush ticking 80 damage, does not 2880 damage, but 5440. Do the math you want but at least do it properly..

That pretty much answers it.. you don’t get it.. The point is, this is where ppl are expressing their opinions about something that should be changed because it could change some of the “X dungeon is too boring” problems that exist at the moment.. FGS makes everything trivial.. As Zelyhn among some others posted before, there are some solutions to this problem, but I seriously doubt those will be approved and implemented.. It’s easier / faster for Anet to just change FGS.
And trying to insult others on something they do for fun / for the challenge is really not the way to go.. You sound bitter cuz maha can do something you can’t.. FGS carry too strong..

I get that you don’t care about this but you are looking to win an argument that tbh is pretty much composed of personal opinions.. Why?
It’s normal that fractal oriented players do not mind either way since FGS is not that good in most of them, but for those not so fractal oriented, those who run dungeons everyday and try to have some fun in there this is actually a big deal…
It’s ridiculous the difference that FGS does in most bosses.. At first you see the bosses melt and you’re like “rofl the damage.. its very funny indeed to see bosses melt away” but after a while the funny feeling turns into something else.. Well.. Boring.. It’s no longer fun when you go at lupi with 5 eles and burn him in 15secs.. You don’t even need 5 eles but whatever..
It’s not fun when you go somewhere and you kill the bosses faster than you kill the few packs of trash you need to pull… I actually fell asleep in the middle of a boss once.. That’s how exciting FGS makes everything be..
But the meta turned into this.. Comps always bring Eles for their Fury/Might/FGS delivery system.. And even if some ppl don’t agree with it, if FGS#4 was gone, some fights would actually be much better than they are at the moment.. because you could actually see something coming and “AMG we need to dodge!”..

No new wvw tourneys! Last tourney was still bad. I can name like, 3 good servers in the game.
Best bag farm is zergs but I can’t bring myself to do it cause they’re terrible.
See how easy it is to complain about something that others enjoy? Opinions are opinions. Unless you have something to offer, like, a suggestion to make them better… why post?
of course it’s my opinion, what else would it be? and my opinion is that they’re awful and anet is neglecting them. This is coming from someone who’s past 15k AP and got to level 50 fractal level to farm but the rewards are garbage.

I agree there is a lot of room for improvement in the dungeon area but I also agree with Lilith. If you have a problem with something, narrow it down; and be specific about it: I think dungeons are terrible because X and Y are bad and I’d rather see Z instead. It will still be your opinion but at least it would be a formed opinion and not just a random rant.
I agree. I think the dungeons could be better sure, but they are not all that bad for those who actually like running dungeons.. Most of this threads happen because after 2 years without pretty much any change in this aspect of the game, the players get a little bored, having to run the same dungeons every day.. After a while it becomes a routine if you know what i mean.
I have no idea if they will actually give us a new dungeon in this LS since they still don’t have a dungeon team as far as I know.. But if they put some effort into it wouldn’t it be good if we could actually get a little involved in the development of a new dungeon? Someone from Anet came to this forum and said: Ok guys, give us ideas for a new dungeon, you think of bosses, fights, scenarios, etc.. We will take these ideas and put them to use..
Or they could get GW1 team back…

We still are not looking too much at Fractals but once we get enough interested ppl for it we will start to tread those waters aswell.. Hey there. Ok that build you got there is not bad, but as stated above a Lightning Hammer would increase your DPS, maybe you forgot it, but np.
This is your build with a few adjustments:
I took the fact that you are starting or are yet to start running dungeons in consideration, so instead of having Arcane Wave and Arcane shield, you can take Arcane Shield to give you a little survivability until you learn all the mechanics, and change your healing skill to Arcane Brilliance. This gives you 1 more blast to stack might when you need to and it keeps your Arcane Lightning buff up.
Sure Arcane Shield has a long CD but you will see that 30 secs is a long time to kill the boss, especially when you use Fiery GreatSword on him.
Next, you should take Signet of Fire.. This gives you 180 precision (more or less 8% crit chance), so with that build you get 60% crit chance unbuffed.. with a team that has a warrior with Banner of Discipline which gives another 8% crit , with fury (20% crit) and with your Lightning Hammer in your hand (LH gives you another 8% crit) you will have 96% crit chance! Now, you get Truffle Steaks that gives you 100 power and 70 precision.. and there you go! Critical hits so good!
Well that is pretty much the changes.. Ah! Well that one is up to you but the Conjurer Trait in Fire is good for long fights but you can switch it to something else in short fights, since it is not that useful.. You can try with Fire VII (Pyromancer’s Alacrity) so you have a little more freedom in case you need to drop your LH early.. Try them as you go.

This one has your own Vulnerability Generation while taking as many damage multipliers as possible. You can switch Fire VI for Fire II and Water VI for Water IV if needed and if you want to test it. Cheers to DEKeyz for this build aswell, this is a nice one.
And you can go staff aswell if you have already someone taking care of the might.. Its not as fun in my opinion but it does tremendous damage…

Really? I read that PvE mob targeting prioritizes targets with heavier armor / more HP making the ele the last prioritized target.
Well tell that to.. for example the Golem in CoE or.. the first boss in CoF p1.. or.. lol just pick one out of a hat.. I play with warriors and guards everyday and so far I’ve been tanking pretty much everyboss I get close to.. meaning all of em since I run LH.. Could it be bad luck for some reason? I doubt it.
Just get over the fact that people see you as a conjure dispenser and that everything instadowns you and it actually isnt too bad.
This. Most groups see eles as Might/Fury/FGS machines.. This and getting the lock on from pretty much everyboss are the downsides from this class.. The damage output though is very good.. Dem 19-21k Thunderclaps…
I don’t know what’s gained by this. Why would anyone want to stack fury for 2 straight minutes? most fights last 30 secs with FGS and im being generous.. What do you guys want? Start stacking fury at the entrance of a dungeon to last the whole path? There’s no point in getting rilled up because of this..
I have something to say about that.. I usually play with a friend and if ppl from the guild wanna come its fine, but sometimes we take some outside ppl, and the new excuse everyone, guildies or not, uses is that they dont want to blast my fields because my blasts give fury and their blasts dont (if I am the only ele on the group its no use, I gotta take Fire XI – Persisting Flames whether I want or not) so they leave the blasts to me (thanks alot my friends <.<).
So trying some other builds without 6 in Fire is a no go.. And since I really don’t like to start a fight with pretty much every skill on CD, I usually stack might with another set. Using S/D as a main set, I change to S/F to stack, and Comet is a really precious blast. Not really hard to use it on a field either. And… Well.. You are already stacking might and fury, so why not use Comet aswell for that purpose?
And btw, anyone else got that awsome excuse before?
I completely agree.. Being able to switch builds on demand is very good. It helps alot.
I also like the 5/2/2/5/0 build, love those multipliers, but i dont really have someone reliable to take care of the fury so Persisting Flames is pretty much a must for now.. And I see your point with the >90% hp..
Other than melting the boss with FGS gives alot of time to drop my hp out of that value.. I’ll probably give some tests to the 6/4/2/2/0.

With 6 in Air, you’re able to stack Vuln (GM minor trait) and gain a burst with Fresh Air or (make use of) Tempest Defense damage boost, not to mention stat bonus in precision. LH build camping in water using 62240 would deal more damage than 6422, given your group has covered the vuln stacking.
The 62240 build seems like a good idea, but is it worth losing that 10% crit from the 4 points in Air Magic? Aren’t the lack of crits noticeable?

With LH build, shouldn’t 6/4/2/2/0 be a increase in dps versus the 6/6/2/0/0? Is Arcane Lightning more valuable than Vital Striking?

I’ve been playing as Ele for some time now mostly running dungeons with friends and with time some doubts started crossing my mind.. Since I was pretty much the only Ele on the group I mostly run S/D hammer (6/6/2/0/0) to stack might. But coming to the forums, reading DEKeys and some other posts about it, pretty much everyone says that staff outdpses LH builds by far, lack of blasts being the only downside to it. Well I’ve been trying staff build (tried 6/4/2/2/0 and 6/6/0/0/2) but it gives the impression that they both deal about the same dps, but I dunno, maybe I’m doing something wrong with it. Even when playing with staff I usually stack might with S/D then change to staff before the fight begins so I can start with proper might stacks.
I have full ascended zerk gear with scholar runes.. I was supposed to get strength runes for the LH build but I wanted to check this first.
So, does staff deal much more DPS than LH build? How’s LH builds compared to Warriors, Thiefs on bosses?
Any advices or thoughts about what I might be doing wrong?

Hey there, I’m coming back from a long break and with so many things changed I wanted to get some doubts cleared before I choose what to play with.
I will be going mainly for Dungeons, Fractals, World Bosses.. maybe some WvW. I like high DPS and don’t really care if it’s melee or ranged. I’m deciding between Elementalist and Thief.. Which one has higher DPS in Dungeons? As far as I know Thief backstab build was kinda nerfed with the april patch right? and Ele was kinda buffed? Well I dunno thats why I’m asking for opinions.
So? Advice?

I played GW2 in the release but then I took a break and came back 2 months ago.. And now I’m looking for a guild that does fractals actively and that can give some lights to a starter in them if needed.. Atm I am lvl2 as Thief in fractals but since finding groups is insanely hard due to kittened groups (dont know what to do, fails on bosses, etc) I thought there should be guilds that actually enjoy doing these things. I am new but I learn fast
