In my experience, you only see people selling because normal groups fill up quickly enough: seconds, a minute at most.
Doomed? As in servers being shut down? Nah, at least not in the near future. They won’t get rid of a money making product.
Thing about GW2 is you can always get back into it whenever you feel like it, take breaks away from it and play as casually as you like with no repercussion, so this game will have its player base for quite some time.
What we will see is a decline of the user base as a whole but that’s just the normal progression of any MMO really. The latter, however, does contribute to them being more focused on designing stuff that can be sold for gems rather than free content – new maps, dungeons or whatever – they have to cut losses somewhere.

Bad timing is bad timing, no matter how good the message is.
You could have started with this perfectly reasonable argument imo, but we could argue about the “coulds” and “shoulds” and get nowhere.
On topic: As I see it, their decisions on what they work on now and what they leave for later sums up to, in this particular matter, “is it more beneficial to try to reel in new players or work towards keeping the ones we already have (vets)”
I have to agree with Vayne here though, the chances them knowing the answer to that is higher than us since they handle all the data. Then again, all I said is a moot point since they’ve yet to tell us their plans for older players.
From what I’ve seen, the forums in general tend to resort to the “everything’s fine stop QQing bro kthxbye” when faced repeatedly with the same issue as, say, mounts or stacking in dungeons.
Saying its killing the economy is kinda harsh, I’m sure its not the only factor in the equation.
That being said, it is true Dungeons provide with pure gold straight from the game to the players, no intermediates, but they can’t simply nerf the gold rewards by say, half, out of the blue without screwing the rest of the playerbase that has had less time to participate in dungeon farming. Then again, didn’t they do that with karma? Not sure.
Adding rewards such as T6 mats instead of pure gold sounds like an idea but what do I know, not an expert.
Oh I’m not throwing my money, at all, don’t you worry about that :P
Still, you do have a valid point, this game has a lot of potential, no argument there, but it all comes down on how they transform that potential into actual stuff people like.
I’m already doing what you said nonetheless, stopped playing as frequently as I used to and, for better or worse, waiting for the Living Story Season 2. At least for me, whether I stop playing altogether comes to how well executed this new season is.
Thing is, it’s been almost two years, way too much time. Of course people will ask for new stuff, it’s not crying, it’s common sense.
