Hey there,
I’m currently looking for a consistent team to play with. I’ve taken a big break of the game since my old team (Garb) disbanded, but am willing to take the game very seriously over the summer if it means winning big tournaments. This is what our old roster looked like, (while playing with an Elementalist named Vexeus before Spirits became our 5th).

• In-game names: TrustyTurkey/Louis
• Professions: Elementalist, Guardian, Ranger
• Region: North-America (PST). I normally play for a few hours on weekdays (7-10ish) and a large chunk of the day on weekends.
• PVP statistics: Rank 43 (without doing much hotjoining) with these stats. I’ve consistently been on the front page of the leaderboards when they came out, but the disbanding of our team in combination with some solo-queue put me down to around rank 100.

I’ve been playing with a thief named Steb recently to brush off the rust from my break. There’s no doubt that I’m a skilled player in terms of mechanics, and could easily adapt to whatever role is necessary on the team. A friend of mine once said that a humble attitude is a must when looking for a team; after a game, we’ll go over what was done right/wrong, and improve accordingly. Mesmers are used almost entirely for their utility (IE: Portal, Illusion of life, Time Warp, etc,) so saying something like “Mesmers aren’t OP in team-fights” is fairly redundant. You’re doing something wrong if you can’t survive long enough to support your team and keep an eye on the point with a portal on it. Teams tend to focus the mesmer though, so use your invulnerabilities in compensation for your squishiness. Your decisions might also be an issue (like joining a team fight where you’re completely out-numbered).

Hotjoins are much more zerg-y to be able to get as many points as possible (farming glory). With 8 people on a small map, it’s bound to happen, so try to backcap them if they decide to group up and hit mid as a group of 8. Solution we’ve been suggesting for a while: remove hotjoins.

Tournament matches have the occasional team that decides to zerg points. Solution: run mobile classes and secure the other 2 objectives all the time. Either that or learn how to do a proper 5v5 teamfight and get your whole team there to help you.

WvW will always have zergs. That’s the only way you can assault a keep/tower/whatever.

Yep. Any PvE skin can be made into a PvP item. (you just have to select the PvP option once it’s been double-clicked.)

Get in a party. Make sure you both have yourselves added to your respective friends list.
One of you guys needs to go to the hotjoin browser, find a reasonably low-populated server (so that you can both get in), and enter it.
Right click his name -> Join friend in sPVP.

(Tournaments are a little easier, you just need to queue up with your friend.)

You did it too, trying to act like a victim and making up won’t help you. People quit cause motherkitteners like you ruin their fun exploiting them.

Well then I don’t know what to tell you. I think I explained myself pretty well in the other paragraph. I even remember that game pretty well; I was at mid for the most part, and can assure you, it wasn’t used on my part. People quit because of the lack of support from the company that makes this game, explaining why it hasn’t been fixed. If we run more than one ele again, I’ll make sure it doesn’t happen on purpose, but that’s about all I can say. Peace

What class do you play? My #1 tip would be to get some experience with all the classes before you decide on your “main”. That way, you’ll be able to identify when enemies are using a certain skill, meaning you’ll be able to counter it effectively.

Hotjoins probably aren’t the best for learning a profession from scratch. If you see somebody who’s good at the class you play, feel free to ask him for his spec, and some tips on how to play it. Then, practice practice practice. Good luck man!

Agreed. People tend to see it as a must-have for a team just because it’s there, rather than because they agree with the principals of abusing the bug. Same thing happened with the Svanir rune glitch. As suggested above, temporarily disable the skill in PvP until it gets fixed permanently. Is it wrong? Yes. But is it our fault? No. The developers should be catching these bugs before a patch, and it’s their responsibility to fix it ASAP.

(Also, while on the topic of eles, if any devs are reading this): There’s another bug that works against elementalists running scepter-dagger. If you use dragon’s tooth before getting knocked back/stunned/whatever, it won’t do any damage when it falls from its suspension in the air.

PS: it’d be much appreciated if you stopped taunting in front of my toon and insulting the members of my team. My teammates may have run it, but feel free to look at my past broadcasts on Twitch to see I didn’t even have it equipped. The sheer immaturity around the mists and the forums explains why new players aren’t attracted to PvP; get along, even if you have to fake it, since the population is dwindling.

How refreshing, someone saying something positive about PvP. I want to see this game succeed, and I think we all love it so much that we hate on it to make it improve.

I’m not sure if this is a list of guilds that are recruiting, or if it’s simply a list of active guilds, but we’d fit the 2nd option. We’ve been hosting trials for the past couple weeks and we now have a fairly consistent core team, so yeah, feel free to put us down as active.

1) WHEN can we expect the features that this game so desperately needs (spectator mode, custom arenas, etc etc), which leads me to my next question…

2) Once we DO get these features implemented, we need to answer the question of “now what?”. How do we attract new people to a 60$ game for what seems to be quite PvE-centric, how can we improve the learning curve for new players, and how can we get people to STAY (incentive to play, rewards, etc…).

3) Build diversity/balance. ’Nuff said. Read the posts above.

Getting gold in exchange for glory would completely mess up the economy, but level progression sounds reasonable for the people who spend all their time in the Mists.

The “incentive” most people have is to be #1/to beat the best teams, but yes I agree, there should be some sort progression in PvE, or something other than cosmetic rewards in PvP.

Why not keep the system, but randomize the map? Or get some sort of a “map of the day” for each day of the week.
Even though Temple is a great map, we’re getting tired of playing it over and over.

Details : I get on around 6:00-10:00pm PST on weekdays, and a large chunk of the day on weekends. I have TS, Skype, Vent, and can even livestream our games if I find a good team. I’m very experienced with PvP (it’s basically all I do in this game nowadays), and communicate well. I expect you to know exactly what you’re doing, so you can expect me to do/know the same.

Play a necro, wait until he uses Save Yourselves, corrupt all his boons. Put up constant bleeds to make him waste his condi clear on that.
During that time you shouldn’t have any problem staying away from the objective he’s holding, since he’s probably using a melee weapon (you won’t take any damage. I’m thinking of something like sitting on top of the clocktower in Kyhlo, raining down condis). You should also have the support of your team, so try to kill them quickly before their team comes.

I’ve reserved certain names for my characters during the headstart access of this game. One of them, being an inside joke, “Cak”.

Fast forward a few weeks after the headstart access, and my engineer, “Flaccid Arousal”, got a name ban. That’s understandable.

Everything was going fine and dandy until today, when “Cak”, “Peen Fiend”, and “Saggy kitten” were all name banned

So up until now I’ve got 4 name bans. I only care about one though, Cak. I’m known around sPvP with that name, and I’d very much appreciate it if could be un-banned? Could I at least talk to whoever hands out these name bans? I’m certainly not offending whoever sees these names, other than making them smile.

My old team was pretty successful in paids, but a large portion of them quit the game a little while ago. I’m now trying to find a new team. I play a guardian, (and have multiple character slots of them to be able to switch up my builds between rounds.)

What rank are you? Are you only doing hot-join PVP matches?
Salvaging items you get from tournaments are a better source of crystals/slivers.

My general rule: if the item is very generic and has no coloured background, the best thing you’ll get is either a token or an arcane orb.

I’m trying to go for 100% map completion, but I keep forgetting which zones I’ve 100%‘ed, and which ones I haven’t.
Easy fix: add a little icon beside the name of each zone, similar to the red helmet in GW1

I’m pretty sure it’s a combination of both Sunrise and Twilight (since it combines both effects). @Terra probably has it right.

So, pchow, what did you do to make THAT much gold, karma, and all the other achievements in such a short period of time? I’m having a hard enough time getting 1 sub-sub-sub section of a legendary.

It’s tedious enough WITHOUT each and every borderland, ESPECIALLY when your server isn’t completely dominating the opposing teams.

Not only do I need to collect about 500 gold to be able to craft a legendary, but map completion is part of the requirements. I’ve talked to around 20 people who have 100% world completion, and they’ve all said “yeah… it was easier for me because I cheated when world transfers were free and unlimited”.

These people got it “the easy way”, so it isn’t fair to someone like me who needs those gifts of exploration. It’s incredibly frustrating to respawn over and over until you can do a suicide run to get that ONE point of interest (not to mention the armor repair costs for a level 80).
So please, either remove borderlands entirely from map completion, or make it so that the vistas/POi’s are accessible to everyone.

I can’t even open my game client anymore. It lags my entire computer, and if I do manage to get it open, my FPS is incredibly low, and there’s a constant jumpiness while playing.
My computer isn’t the problem, since I’ve run this game perfectly fine at maxed out graphics settings up until today.

I think of it as a sport. You need team colors, and it makes it easier to differentiate people.

If GW wants to make it into the e-SPORTS scene, they’ll have to make changes and additions to the SPvP system, but the base system itself is fine as it is imo.

Are you kidding me? You’re talking about one small aspect of a giant WORLD of playability. If PvP is the ONLY thing you enjoy, then just wait until a patch comes out to fix the current issues. Better yet, suck it up, play a few tournaments, and have some fun with it. Arenanet is currently working on huge PvP updates, so just hang tight, because the game’s been out for a month.
Just leave if you think the game sucks; nothing’s stopping you. I despise these types of posts.

The game needs a money sink, but yes, the waypoint costs should be decreased to a certain extent. Another good suggestion I saw: world completion/area completion should grant cheaper/free waypoints to the waypoints in the area

Going to any vendor/banker/merchant initiates one of the audio greetings, such as “What do you need?” or “How do you do?”. If I go to something like the bank in Lion’s Arch, I find it necessary to turn my audio off since I hear that same exact thing every 2 seconds.

Simple solution: make it so that greetings are only heard from the person who interacted with the NPC, instead of making it for everyone.

Not only that, but I’ve actually memorized some of the dialogue from surrounding NPC’s. “Your face is funny, all squished and weird!” “No, your face is funny. Like a little raisin.” Muffle the sound a bit, or increase the interval of time it takes to hear it again.

10% obviously. Lets say you kill something that’s worth 500 exp… +50 bonus exp as opposed to 10.
The +10 exp stuff is more useful at lower levels. If you’re farming, you should also be looking at food that gives you a MF bonus.

Gold chests give you a chance to get items that are of a higher rank than your current one. Deer gold chests = chance for a dolyak item. Until significant changes are made, I just keep buying copper chests and salvage everything for materials.

I’m actually the opposite. Nothing interesting happens until about level 30-40 since you’re still being introduced to the characters and climbing up the “ranks”. The reason there’s so much talk about the Risen is because Zhaitan (big elder dragon) is summoning them. To each his own opinion, but I don’t think the actual story is bad. The bugs on the other hand, those are a problem.

Shouldn’t this be in Linksville? Anyways, you aren’t a bad player, but everybody is already making videos similar to this one. Therefore, it isn’t getting much attention.

Wow, in every single profession sub-forum I’ve seen the same old “THIS IS OP” thread over and over. Everything has a strength and everything has a weakness. If a guardian is super tanky/hard to kill, you need to communicate with your team to be able to focus on nobody but him. Bubbles hitting you? Use stability. He’s constantly healing? Interrupt the dang skills. There’s already been a “fix” to the support elite skill, so that should be enough imo.

It’s fun and it’s competitive. Take a first person shooter for example. Once you get all of the cool guns, you still enjoy playing, and killing noobs with your level of experience is entertaining as well.

The only “reward” you get are ranking levels and cosmetic armor. You could make it a goal for yourself to craft a variety of different things at the PvP forge. Stuff like that.

Every other class can also do a ton of damage with a certain combo/build. I’m guessing you’re complaining about the Hundred Blades combo? Use a stun breaker/stability. Easy.

Oh and once these glass-cannon builds use their combo, they can’t use it again for a minute or two while they wait for the cooldowns. Soon, people will learn how easily counterable it is.
