As I leveled my ranger, i’ve noticed when I use a bow, and try to fire at an enemy that just stealthed (because you can still hit them) it will fire my arrows into the ground sometimes. Anyone notice this?

So, spirit rangers are becoming pretty big, and if you use spirits underwater, you get dolphins, which are kitten. Something I noticed however, they take significantly less time to cast. Why?

isnt it the aim of the game to kill others ;(? the idea of the 10 blue orbs is good, but if they follow you around for 20 sec, they easily encounter 10 orbs. also the traps require less. so what is the problem with letting dead people spawn at a random place ;/

My issue is just wind is overpowered. Wind has access to a ranged knockback, invuln, quickness, highest damage potential, slowing and is the best crystal carrier. Lightning has area denial, glue sticking AA, stun, and a daze. Fire has area pull, stab field, heal, blindness, and teleport.

The headshot thing isn’t really that op. If you see someone sitting there not moving and not crouching, shoot a disarming shot at them. Less cast time, can move, and if you only have one arrow, you get to play the akward game where you both kinda hug a bit until you find something else to kill him with.

I can’t believe you guy’s would kitten the trapper build by using the GS when you have viable weapons like Shortbow-Axe-Torch-Dagger-Sword and now Horn even know allot of the upper tier rangers always ran horn with there trapper builds for the mobility.

I can see why some would use it in WvW but in SPvP your losing massive chunk of damage by taking the GS, I’m speechless.

Because using 1H sword is kittening annoying, and this is a video game. I only lost 1v1 vs necros, and would only switch to GS if I needed some defense. Gs is a defensive weapon, hopefully someone will realize that damage isn’t everything.

Yeah its video game and winning is fun, losing isn’t. How much SPvP have you done, cause I find " I only lost 1v1 vs a necros" extremely hard to believe.

But if running GS is your thing by all means keep running it, I just don’t see why you wouldn’t run better weapons that offer same amount of defense and do more damage.

I’m like rank 20. And when I say I only lose 1v1 to necros, that’s equal skill level. If I get two shot or I die and the person didn’t get hit once, I just got outskilled. I don’t count that. If it was close, or took longer than 15s and at least half his health bar, that’s equal skill. If I lost by the skin of my teeth. Or won by the skin of my teeth. That’s what I mean.

And for the third time, the reason I don’t run 1h sword is because ITS ANNOYING

Although, with the changes to Warhorn, I kinda have to now.

what they said, as you level up you get an idea of what your build is, and what works and what doesnt. So when you are level 80 you know how to play your class. just having a different class at level 80 immediately won’t really do much for you.

WTH, Maul is a puny 3 stacks for 6 seconds?

Just scrap the vulnerability and increase the damage of the skill or give it a useful conditionj instead. 3 stacks of vulnerability is nothing, you just nerfed Maul for no reason.

Rapid fire – Hunter’s Shot – Remorseless – Weapons Swap to GS – Resets 5 stacks of vulnerability – Swoop – Quickening Zephyr – Hilt Bash – Signet of the Hunt – Maul = Murder.

Seems like it was really smart update, who the hell wants conditions on power weapon. You can’t be that clueless you don’t see why they change the GS into more of power weapon stepping away from stupid conditions on the GS.

Most players who run GS are running it with a Power build and not a condition build, if your running a GS with condition build then I’m dumb found. Even if you trait 30 points to get 300 condition damage that next to no damage.

30/30/0/10/0 build with LB/GS with Might stacking which rather easy on a ranger now you can get easy 20 stacks of might dealing one hell of massive Maul.

Using Spider pet and Rapid fire I can get vulnerability up to 22 stacks, now you add in trait’s and combo’s you could effectively hit your target with 25 stacks of vulnerability. But you would rather have bleeds over more damage when you correctly stack…..

I used GS on my Spvp trapper build. I don’t really want carpal tunnel, so if I need to switch, I open with maul, lay down a HS and swoop into it. Although, changes to the horn, i’m gonna have to start getting used to smashing my one key. yay.

Hmm .. personally i only see a damage decrease compared to now where i often directly start with 20 stacks of vulnerability.

Yeah, I was wondering about this. Used to be, Hunter’s Shot, 10 stacks of vuln right away, so every hit of Rapid Fire got the full 10 vuln from that. If the new Rapid just adds 1 stack per hit, the 10 stacks only apply to the last hit, for a net loss in total damage?

Maybe there are other factors? Or is it more than 1 vuln per hit with the new Rapid Fire (notes don’t say and I’m at work).

In b4 thieves realize we’re getting ranged CnD.

It might be first step in implementing limited stealth options to ranger class. Remember, we already get stealth on CC through trait. Perhaps an alpha Ranger stealth utility could make comeback in some form? I could imagine SB or GS getting stealth treatment as well.

meh, they shouldn’t make it widely available, or else, it will go back to the good old days were it was all about SB. It would also be lame, and we would just become some kinda “weird thief”

My first thought of a ranger is hiding in the bush scouting a target. Laying down traps, being silent, unmatched in the woods. The only knowledge of said ranger is when you find a dead guard or bandit, with 3 shafted arrows in his chest, back, or neck.

A thief is more hidden in the crowds, or uses underhanded tactics. Ball shot, poison, prepared explosions, never being seen. Throwing coins so urchins cover his escape, using friends, caltrops, rusty spikes.

I see a mesmer as putting on a show, fooling you without you ever looking away. I don’t see mesmers having stealth.

I know I was playing a mesmer in spvp, and I found myself fighting a warrior. I don’t know how I did it but I tricked the warrior into always attacking my clones, and never me. I won that fight because he didn’t know which one was me. Its all about how the class is viewed. I play a slightly altered trap ranger in spvp, and I pretrap. When I leave a point, I leave my traps behind, and take a second or two and watch the point, and when I see someone go in, trigger my traps, I always type “A ranger is always prepared” into map chat. It’s always a good feeling when you literally channel your own view of the class. But when your class doesn’t have a set view that you can see, it’s punishing.
When I played a warrior, I felt like a beserker, it was an awesome feeling. When I played a Necro, I felt like creeping death. When I play my ranger, I feel like an always prepared skirmisher.

TL;DR: its all how you view your class. If you try to play a thief like you would play a mesmer, your not gonna have a good time.

As far as it goes right now, every mainhand sword thread turns into a cry thread, which just spreads more negativity in an already very negative community.

Ironic, you pin the blame on the so called “criers”. Better chance of it being the L2P elitists that provide no proof or argument other than “it’s in the game” or “I like it this way.” Then when we talk about what we don’t like, we’re noobs or criers, and we need to L2P. Instead of trying to fix issues with our class, and believe it or not, an auto-attack bug that literally doesn’t allow us to move away from our target unless we want carpal tunnel syndrome is an issue, you want to leave it in, because it makes you think your better, that your kitten is bigger than everyone elses. “LOOK AT ME! I DO THIS, YOU DON’T. I’M BETTER THAN YOU!” And you wonder why the community is bad.

If you ever seriously alpha-tested or beta tested a game, you would know a bug is both Dev oversight and broken mechanics.

Technically it’s a bug. The auto attack chain does exactly what it says. It is a dev oversight. And a very large one. I seriously doubt that the devs coded it to purposely deny us dodges. As much as they hate rangers, that just doesn’t make sense to me. So, since the ability is causing an unintended reaction, simply and easily, it’s a bug.
And if they did code it so rangers were the only class with an auto-attack designed to harm them more than hurt…well…then ESO is coming out soon.

It’s amazing that we can train dogs to stop kittenting on the carpet, but we can’t teach the ranger community to adapt, develop a higher skill set, and stop crying.

I believe it was in Beta I remember it being addressed. Don’t think we’ll find a post for it now.

I saw your post and i was just looking, you can get a keyboard that has basic macro capability for 29-35 bucks. im not saying that Anet shouldnt fix the issue..but until then this is a perfectly viable method.

as a side note, if a person cant afford 30 dollars for a keyboard they should be focusing on making better life choices, not playing guild wars. (a discussion for another time i ’spose)

I have a Razer Anansi and a Razer Naga Epic. Took me a year of planning. Putting pennies away, being smart, because I don’t want my rent to bite me in the kitten . I want a large buffer in my bank account in case real life decides to show it’s hand. I have car insurance to pay, gas, food, a dog to take care of, bills, a girlfriend who requires me to have money. Things break, people get sick. I don’t want to be short if my tire pops, or I break my arm during my day job, (security guard). And when I come home from a long day of work and want to sit at my computer, log in to my Sylvari Ranger, I just want my skills to work. No extra macros or buttons, no work arounds. I want to hit the button and have my auto-attack work like everyone else’s auto-attack. I don’t want to have to work harder to achieve the same thing. So, no it’s not a L2P issue, its just an issue, that would be very nice to see fixed.

The weapon gives you damage and evade. Being able to dodge with this weapon would be too much evasion (which you can if you master it). They have already said it’s working as intended. You guys are still complaining about.

You can say you haven’t seen the post. But even if you did you would demand the reasoning behind it. And honestly they don’t have to give you they why’s.

They are kitten if they do and kitten if they don’t.

This is literally the stupidest thing I have ever read. So either, it’s a dev oversight/bug or Devs broke this weapon because having 2 evades and a leap attacted to a weapon, plus using the mechanic that allows dodging, is too much.

Which one sounds more viable?

It’s a high risk, high reward weapon. If you can’t handle it, then stick with GS.

‘snot that I can’t handle it, its that I can’t be arsed. I can think of much better ways to get carpel tunnel then smashing my one key because Anet doesn’t want to fix the sword.

I know it’s often mentioned as a bug, iirc even since the start of GW2.
But has any dev every said a single word about it?
I can’t recall a dev admitting that there would be a bug.
And after such a long time where an auto-attack bug is ignored, I really wonder if it maybe is just “working as intended”
I mean, it’s AUTO-ATTACK, bug fixing should’ve the highest possible priority for that.

Also, is there any other class with a bug in it’s auto-attack? I don’t think so


I love the damage and animations, but it’s really hard to dodge, especially for newer players.
This is how I imagine new Rangers with Sword:
- “thats a cool weapon with cool animation and good damage, nice”
- “Oh, my enemy is charging his attack, better dodge”
- “Double-Tap / V”
- “Nothing happens, WTF”
- “Smashing the Keybord”
- “Dead”
- “This Weapon is crap, I’ll just stay at range with my longbow and never worry about dodging again”

(over dramatizing, I know)

Nope, exactly what happened to me, so instead of using the more versatile sword, I just use GS.

Have any of you guys tried my mighty ranger build? Right? You’re all PvE’ers, right? Maybe you just aren’t playing ranger optimally?

Pvper here. And we’ve discussed this before Chopps, it’s not that we aren’t viable, it’s that everyone is a better choice than us. We’re like the Lone Wolves. We’re only good for soloing. We don’t share, don’t have a niche, and everyone does it better.

Everyone is not better at dungeons than me with ranger I can tell you that for a fact. Ranger, by the way, stacks vulnerability easily, reflects, gives DPS buffs and protection to the team, aoe condition removal, water field, and damage/tank with pet while resurrecting. Ranger gets a long stability that’s very useful, along with a fire field and permanent 25 might on pet.

I. Disagree. You, sir, need practice. If you don’t like ranger in dungeon, say so, but to say any classes are anything but marginally better or worse is to lie. There’s a huge skill factor none of the people in your camp take into account either.

I could play warrior right now in dungeon and I would do awful. “Crit dmg not in the precision line? What the hell…warrior sucks” because I know nothing about warrior. :p

First of all, don’t question my skill, I don’t question yours, I speak highly of you, do not speak lowly of me.
Second, 25 might on pet is pointless when it’s dead
Third, You are apparently the most skilled ranger ever made, if you can do better than all the other classes.
Fourth, if your build is that good, and it makes the difference between skilled an unskilled, that’s an issue, having only one playable build is NOT what this game is supposed to be about.

It’s come to a point where people no longer want rangers in their groups. They know it’s suboptimal, and the difficulty of the duengons, people don’t want to go in with less. I know a lot of rangers are getting turned away from groups.

Let me give you an example of a bug I found, The pig pets skill forage, gave me an egg, which restored 3 initiative…on my ranger. I logged out, and logged into my dual pistol Spvp thief, since that seems to be what Anet wants me to play.

It’s multiple things
- stupid pet AI taking up 40% of our dps untraited, and if traited, still can’t hit very much, they’re also useless in duengons, zergs in WvW, and can’t attack off walls they’re also unresponsive.

-Backwards, broken traits. Master’s bond literally goes against the whole switching mechanic, evasive purity doesn’t work, opening strike is used ONCE, then forgotten about.

-Weapons are broken, the great shortbow nerfs, longbow punishes you for a mob being close in a game where mobility is key and is not very good, they need to rework the bow. 1h Sword roots you in place for 2/3 of the auto-attack chain, axe 5 roots you in place.

-Spirits are broken, require 2 traits to be useful. Why take a spirit ranger over a rifle or longbow warrior, when they can bring banners that can’t die, provide better buffs, and in a pinch can be picked up by anyone. Lightening reflexes doesn’t cure imob. Traps require 2 traits to be useful,.

And the most important thing, Rangers don’t really bring anything to the table that isn’t done better and easier than everyone else. Warrior banners and shouts, rangers have the worst res in the game, guardians bring better regen, mesmers bring more meat shields and more buffs, necros bring better pets, engis bring…everything. Ele’s have better dam and group utility. Only thing rangers bring is the best water field in the game, and we don’t even get a blast finisher to use it in.

or, just make it so we can pick our pets up, ala player style. OR get rid of the 60s cd on death thing, that’s just stupid. We’re the only class forced into using our mechanic.

I don’t think thats fair, if the split were 80%/20% untraited, and they didn’t die in pve every 10s then maybe. Traited it should become 80%/40%

The entire class is still about switching pets every 20s. because they don’t recover during battle, so they die at 21s. you have to kill 25 people to get master’s bond to full, unless you can kill someone every .66s its a waste of a trait.
