Okay first off I am going to state what I think are the pro’s and con’s of the nerf. I know not everyone will agree with my statement(s) however I ask that we all be civil here. Moving on.
Starting with the Con’s to the nerf the ones that I feel as a member of an active PvE guild. The first is obviously less income, since most PvE players make their money from dungeons. Granted it isn’t hard to make money in this game but everything you may want to buy is expensive so it takes a long time to get anything. Secondly, it becomes harder for guilds like mine to recruit new players since there is less interest in PvE content. Finally, it feels like Anet is saying, “Look, if you want rewarding PvE content, go buy HoT.”
On the flip side, the Zerk Meta needs to change, and the Zerk Meta is deeply rooted in dungeon content. In order to re-align the meta to a more healthy in game meta it was obvious to anyone who put any thought into it that dungeons would either need to be revamped (which costs actual resources they don’t just pull what they need off a money tree) or they needed nerfed to make the newer content more appealing. Also, most people don’t run them for the content but for the rewards, most of the player base cannot say that they enjoy the mechanics in most paths when the ones with the best mechanics are the least played (Aetherpath). The exception to this are the players who solo, duo, trio, etc. the content. This means that if they can get the money elsewhere why play something they don’t really enjoy in the first place. Those that like the dungeons will still run them anyway.
To wrap up, yes I am upset over this nerf. However, I think the nerf was something the game needed in order for it to progress. truth be told, I always prefered the story modes anyway since the bosses have better mechanics and most trash mobs are unskipable/unstackable they feel more like dungeons. If they buffed the story mode rewards I wouldn’t care if they got rid of the explorable modes all together.
Just like Da Kril i just recently joined this guild, and I gotta say that they are a great bunch of people. When they go into a dungeon they finish them like pros, (I have never done all 3 AC paths this fast before) but the mood they take into each fight is much more casual. If your new to dungeons, fractals, your Meta build, etc. They will teach you everything you wanna know. They also have a pretty good sense of humour.
Gonna copy and paste something I just posted in a similar thread:
Chewablesleeptablet.3185:
SO basically what anet wants to do is do free living story all the way up to the climax and then put the end behind a pay wall.
Brilliant.Me:
At no point in the announcement did they state that the expansion would conclude the living story, and the trailer didn’t hint at all that we’d be defeating Mordremoth in it.
It’s quite likely that the expansion will be a side plot involving the Mursaat and Mordremoths minions with boss battles and the like and the main story will continue in the free living story season 3.So I would say the expansions will probably be side stories, not a paid “dragon kill” so to speak. So there’s no guarantee that there’ll be one for every dragon, but there may be one every 3 or 4 seasons or none at all.
Thank you for calling out Chewable every thread he has been on/ started he has been complaining about the xpac when so little info has been shown to us at this point.
Like you said they have never said the xpac will send us to kill mordry but it most likely will. My opinion in this manner is based off of the name of the xpac. Mordremoth would be the Heart of Thorns. Also how could the game progress if they dont send us to kill the ED? LS season 3 would most likely be about after mordry is killed (dealing with the aftermath/rebuilding the pact) and will start sending us after Jormag. Trahearne says at some point in LS season 2 that before Mordry appeared they were planning to tackle Jormag thats why i believe he will be next.
So you consider: feature titles, a brief description of each feature and a handful of examples a lot of information? No wonder you are jumping to conclusions.
You do indeed have the right to be disappointed about things you imagine to be true.
I can see now you are not interested in looking at this with a clear understanding of all the facts.
Imagine? How can I imagine when Colin said these things at PAX? So what you are saying is that Colin lied to us when he stood up on stage listing all of the Major Features….
Once again I will say that I have read interviews on extra details on each major feature and I still stand by my OP. A lot of interviews happened during PAX and I have read many of them to get more clarity which further makes my OP a stronger argument.
You do understand that they will not go into major details about the new features until they go in depth about them at their planned dates. What we got at PAX was a BRIEF overview of the of the subjects at hand. The interviews give slightly more detail but once again they were trying to be vague in order to keep the hype going. For example the interview i posted earlier he mentions a new region with new maps (plural) this means we will get more then one new zone. How many though? he doesn’t say in the interview. In other words the info we got at PAX and the interviews that followed is not showing us everything that the xpac has only a BRIEF overview.
Not sure why I need to quote this again, because looking for information on the Main Heart Of Thorn release pages isn’t that hard. Here’s a quote and link to the source for those who haven’t read it yet.
FYI, It says Maps, which is plural of map. Map being 1 map. Maps being more than 1 map. I mean, come on now. No reason to be deliberately obtuse.
New adventures await you in the heart of the Maguuma Jungle. Confront the growing hordes of Mordremoth’s minions, discover allies from ancient civilizations, and battle new enemies.
- Tackle challenging group content.
- Explore new open world jungle maps.
- Experience new events and storylines.
- Test your mettle in new boss battles.

Also the main reveal has been entirely transcribed. (You who did, or is doing so: You’re insane, but thanks anyway!) Just a few quotes from that:
Now as Mo [Mike O’Brien] said earlier, the maps in the Heart of Maguuma are some of the richest, deepest content experiences that we have ever built in GW2.

As you complete exploring entire maps, you are rewarded with mastery points.

It’s 1 Pve zone like I said, they will advertise more cause they count the Wvw map and Guild halls.
Dude I posted an interview and a quoted Colin where he said region not zone. Also, when he talked about zone/maps (only pve content) he was plural stop being a troll by saying ‘it is only 1 zone’ when we have evidence now that it is more then one.
I think it would be the other way around. Palawa would prob like to expand is dominion and has been playing with Kralky.
i’m sure he’d like to, but he had plenty of opportunity to do so since he took over elona. i imagine he just doesn’t care about the northern lands (he’s smart enough to know how large a territory he can control. stretch your land too far and you weaken your own power.)
oddly i can picture a giant army marching north and then kralky lands on top of them with the expression of ‘Oh hai didn’t see you there’ before stomping around and acting all dragon-y with lots of ‘rawr’ and ‘imma use mah lazah!’
Lol nice imagery gave me a chuckle. I won’t deny that he was smart but he was also on the crazy side kinda like a mad scientist. would not surprise me one bit if he watched Kralky land and was like ‘There is something that appears strong lets send my slaves to fight it for my enjoyment.’
i imagine all of the smaller events mentioned above could also be tied in – e.g. while we’re in cantha chasing, who has been the only dragon in cantha and thus allowed to do as he pleased, we might also be forced to deal with the ministry of purity at one point very soon, as effectively 4/5th’s of the pact army are non-humans (not counting any other races that help.)
a similar situation likely exists for elona, as kralky is now sitting on Palawa’s doorstep and likely making his life very interesting. (could also be why kralky isn’t focused on ascalon and whatnot – he’s having fun playing with palawa)
I think it would be the other way around. Palawa would prob like to expand is dominion and has been playing with Kralky.
I think instead of counting the number of features or how large the maps are, we need to be thinking in terms of hours per dollar spent.
By that, I mean how long we play before repetition and boredom set in. The number of features and map size can add to these, but so can diverse and adapting dynamic events, unique builds and a truly competitive pvp scene. if they can pull those off in ways that keep us engaged, things like map size and the exact number of features becomes much less important.
To repeat what many are saying, it is way too early to have an idea of this, but what would people consider reasonable? With single player RPGs, we usually look for between 20 and 60 hours of gameplay for a 60 dollar game (so between 1 and 3 dollars per hour of unique gameplay). If HOT can achieve that same goal before we find ourselves repeating events or getting bored in game, then it is worth the money in my eyes – especially if they plan to continue adding free living story and feature packs.
I agree i only made my previous comment to show them evidence that we are going to get more then one zone worth of pve content.

" PCG: How big is the new region, Heart of Maguuma?
Colin: You know, we picked a different philosophy for building out this REGION. We’re really focusing on doing less broad development and more deep development. I think historically you’ll see expansions for MMOs do a bunch of maps that players progress through very quickly and leave a wasteland of empty worlds behind them. We’re really focusing on doing less total MAPS and instead making THEM really, really deep, filled with a ton of replay value; a ton of content to explore and see. A LOT of content that, as you progress through it, you’ll see for the first time and you won’t be able to get there, or you’ll encounter challenges that you can’t overcome the first time that you see them. As you progress and build through our mastery system, you’ll be able to return and overcome those challenges and get to those places you couldn’t get to the first time through. And so we’re really focusing on: let’s do a little bit in the grand scheme of things; let’s do a smaller sized area for total scope, and focus really on depth. Make MAPS that have an incredible amount of replay value, so every time that you log in you can go back in there and have a new experience. Have an incredibly deep experience and enjoy playing over and over again in that content.
I think in a lot of ways, philosophically, you look at what makes a lot of games have really good replay value, and often times you look at competitive games where a lot of them have a game mode and people will play it over and over again for years. We’re really trying to take that concept and that experience with our PvE and provide that same type of experience where you don’t have a ton of maps that you tear through and go away. Instead, they have really deep experiences that you can play over and over again and have an amazing time with."
He uses plural for maps a lot and does say region that means at least 2 zones/maps. when talking about the depth/biomes he is also plural. Also we know that the new maps will have 3 layers. 2×3=6 so at the very least we are getting 6 zones worth of content and that is the average for expansions from other games. Also that is only the min estimate the smallest in game region is Orr which has 3 zones so 3×3=9. So we will get somewhere around 6-9 zones worth of content.
