I’d like it if the specialization tracks would remember the traits you had equipped last time you used it. That way you don’t even have to remember what traits you were using, it’s all there for you ready to go.
Obviously if you’re making a new build you’d want to review what you’ve got selected but if you’re just exploring your trait options it would be nice not to have to pick again every time.
And, of course, some way to save entire builds would be a dream come true.
I really hated the hobosacks too. For me it was a good day when they got rid of them, but the grenades were the only really cool looking replacement imo. That’s the thing about looks, there’s no one size fits all.
I’ve no issue with the engi being loaded up with gadgets and gizmos but are they all really such copycats that they all use the exact same red ones? Are these store bought and all made in the same corporate asuran tech factory or something? Surely the engineers can be innovative enough to at least splash a coat of paint over their hoverbot. I’m sure I’d love the litte bugger too if he was in keeping with the rest of my appearance.
Unfortunately I feel in my heart it’s outside of the scope of this game to offer that kind of customization options for only one profession. I will instead hope that it will be made an optional trait instead of being forced on us.
Yes, I agree, and made another post about it already. Hate it!!
I was really looking forward to this elite spec, but for me the Function Gyro completely ruins it. I take great pride in the engi look I have created, it’s one of my best, but the colour cheme I went for is black and green – this continues through the armour, weapons, hair end eye of my character. I bought a scientific hammer especially for this spec. Now I’ve unlocked the very first trait (that you can’t even turn off!) and it has landed me with a floating red thing that completely ruins the whole vibe I had achieved with the guy… in short, it puts me off playing – I’m THAT anal about my characters looks. I know some people love it, and more power to them, but why make this a compulsory trait? And are there any other non-optional traits that actually have a visual impact on the look of a character like this one? In a game so heavily based around skins this is a bit of a slap in the face – the fact that it’s not optional at least.
I was really looking forward to a new alternative way of playing engi, but unless something is done with this I’ll be avoiding him… (wish I hadn’t unlocked the first trait lol and just kept running around underpowered).
TL;DR – make Funtion Gyro optional, or hideable, or even dyable. I beg you.
(edited by V Man.8512)
I absolutely despise the floating gyro model. It completely mucks with my character design, and given that I spent a lot of time getting the look right, that’s pretty important to me. Fortunately, my hatred for the thing does give me a convenient reason to avoid the scrapper altogether. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE take it away and give us back the attractive and perfectly functional icon. I promise that I will send you real dollar bills if you at least make it optional somehow. Please.
I completely agree with this. I too have spent a lot of time and a small fortune getting my engineer to look amazing – my color scheme is black and green through the weapons, armor, hair and eyes and then there is this ugly red pufferfish looking thing always floating beside him now that I unlocked the first trait? WTF!? It totally puts me off playing this elite spec! Which sucks because I was really looking forward to it and bought a scientific hammer especially for this spec. PLEASE give us the option to hide the little … kitten.
First of all – I love the action camera! Thanks a lot for it.
One thing that annoys me a little bit and I feel could be improved is the skill 1 functionality when using action cam. I know you’re supposed to hold down LMB to continually fire.. but really that’s just exchanging holding down one mouse button near constantly for holding another one near constantly!
I have to ask, why does the skill not continue firing while in this camera mode? It keeps on firing in normal mode and you only have to press the button once.. Also, I actually have skill 1 binded to spacebar, and I really prefer to use that since it’s engrained from 3 years of play now – but even trying to hold that down instead of left mouse button it doesn’t work either – so you’re basically forced to either hold LMB or hammer the skill 1 button. Both of these things would be nice to have, preferrably just – Click skill 1 once, it’ll continue to fire at your target as long as you’re facing them.
Thanks! Loving the expansion too so far too. GJ!
I think the TP would be a much more pleasurable experience if on the main page there were two prices for each item, the current best buyer and seller price, and beside each was a checkbox or button that let you pick one or the other. And then one Sell button that sells everything you have selected in one go.
So, imagine you are selling your stuff. You look down the list, choosing which price you want for each item. You click on either the buyer or seller price.. whatever suits you. You don’t go into the item page unless you want to check out the other prices or stock, sell multiple items, etc. but it certainly should still exist, just not be forced into it.
For me personally, I am very lazy indeed.. and I like to just sell my stuff for the buy price (unless it’s a stupidly different sum). This change would cut down on my amount of clicks by at least 3×.. and the time spent would be waaaay less. Let’s face it.. selling your stuff isn’t exactly fun.. and if you’re as unlucky as me to have kinda crappy internet – the TP is not so smooth and quick as it might feel in the Arenanet testing lounge
Elite Specializations & Hero Point Feedback [Merged]
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Anet – please take note of the general attitude of this and the reddit thread.. if those are your intended Hero Point numbers then I’d say you need a serious re-think. Maybe you’re going to adda ton of new HP’s in HoT but even still.. those numbers are insane. No one likes hero challenges btw – they’re boring as hell. Doing thousands of them before we can have fun? No thanks.
After the big trait mix-up, characters under lvl 80 just do not have access to the same level of traits as they did before the change. So these days, yes, a sub-80 character in dungeons will generally be looked down upon. Just one of those things.
I would like this feature as well.
While we’re on the subject, it would be nice to have different keybinds for some professions as well. The number of keys you need immediately differ between say a warrior and an engineer, or even among just engineer build types. In general the settings in the game should be character bound instead of account bound (except for the overall graphics and sound settings, obviously)
Yeah, totally agree with this one as well – keybinds per character would be awesome. I got round that by using a mouse that has 12 buttons at my thumb – it lets you save different profiles for different characters.
About the “adjust height to character” button- it’s not very good! I usually end up unchecking it and manually adjusting the vertical near and the field of view myself because it never feels quite right after swapping.
I’m really quite fond of the stab animation being the first sword auto – it feels different and unique to the Revenant – I wouldn’t want it changed myself.
Hi there, I constantly find myself dissatifsied with the camera position since the recent changes – becasue all my characters are at different heights! If they were all the same it would be perfect but as it stands now I’m adjusting the camera pretty often.. I wondered if you might be able to make the settings per character rather than per account? That way it could be set once for each and left alone after that. Thanks.
The music was amazing!! I have to say I turned the music off on gw2 on day one.. the classical orchestral sound doesn’t really do it for me.. but if you were to introduce music like this to the game – OMG! I’d turn that back on in a second. It sounds very fresh and exciting.
So I somethimes like to play with my UI completely off, I feel it makes for a much cleaner, more immersive experience (if youire not trying to do anything in particular that is).
I noticed that you still get the red circle underneath an enemy you have targeted and it got me thinking – maybe there could be a way to make that circle convey their health status! Perhaps the cicle could reduce from full to nothing like a health bar, or maybe another health bar type thing could be added, like an inner circle. Or something else entirely. It would be a sweet addition, in this humble gamers opinion.
And while you’re at it a way to see the player HP would be just awesome.. but I haven’t figured out how to add that in cleanly without a UI yet.
I’d never manage to get back in to the game in 30 seconds. I have a pretty good computer but satellite broadband. What would help me is if I didn’t have to load the heart of the mists before getting to load the other one. I just counted and it took 40 seconds to load the HOTM alone, then the kyhlo loaded up a lot quicker than that.
Also, on some disconnects it actually closes the game!! Then you have the hassle of re-typing your password (after hitting login and waiting for the first one to fail like it always does).. that could take 30 seconds alone! So… if you could fix that login thing to how it used to be that’d be great (ie command prompt auto logins work again). And if I were you I would increase the time to 1 minute at the least, if not you are going to make us with less than perfect setups the scourge of the pvp community.
So my whole screen just went totally black apart from the gw2 mouse cursor while I was reading the new LS mail from Logan. I had literally only been logged in about a minute after the patch.

So… For a while now (2 months?) there have been issues with not being able to res or stomp people in downed state.
It’s particularly annoying in pvp. I experience this in pve as well though, as recently as last night so I know it’s still happening.
Basically, no one in the party is able to res you, and it’s getting pretty old now. Sorry if this has a thread already, I couldn’t find it.
Don’t change this. It’s good as it is.
Yeah, I’ve had this happen to me multiple times throughout the past year. It doesn’t happen too often for me but when it does it affects the whole team – they all see it. It affected all team members pings in my experience. Whenever someone pings it just stays there repeating over and over, you can actually blot out the entire map with an angry red mass of pings (someone inevitably does). And then all of a sudden it disappears as soon as it started. Perhaps another member had minimized their minimap, as was suggested here. I’ll try that in future.
This is a disgraceful, money-grabbing ploy! Come on Arenanet..
I only need 50 gems but I gotta buy 400? I don’t even have enough gold for that.
Allow us to pick our own amounts… why break a perfectly fine system?
I think you made a big mistake back in April by making the traits that much harder to acquire. I guess if you just started playing after that it would be fine but to have one set of pre-patch characters that have everything unlocked as default, then anything you made after the patch automatically feels inferior. It’s like you have to do a lot more work for no extra reward. For something you got for free before.
Now with this new patch you seem to have taken that even further, although I cannot really comment on the specifics. I just hear quite a bit of discontent and I’m very glad I got my characters to 80 already.
Off topic a bit – but WHY did you not add a way to hide the personal story / world completion text? It has annoyed me since launch, and was one of the main reasons for working my way through the story – to make the bloody thing disappear! And now it looks even more obnoxious with that stupid circle thing, and when you complete the story it doesn’t even disappear any more!! So now I have to get world completion just to make my UI a bit cleaner? Come on Anet.. it’s time for some UI customization options.
PLEASE
Nah totally disagree guys, that retreat voice doesn’t even sound like the same voice actress that did all the other voiceovers. It sounds like a totally different creature!!
I was wondering why the female human voice for “Retreat” on my guardian sounds like a harpy? Feels like someone was lazy and used a harpy voice instead of recording a proper human voice.
Makes me cringe every time I use that skill.
I found a way I can do it, by going from where the waypoint is. It still overshoots, but it took me across to the other side once. The weird thing is sometimes the skill will only take you half way to the target area and sometimes it will take to double the distance you wanted. It’s really not a nice way to start season 2 tbh.
(edited by V Man.8512)
So, right at the start of the new map there are a few zephyrite skills dotted about. You need to simply pick them up and use the skills on some easily identifiable locations to proceed.
Trouble is, every time I use Lightning Pull (the ground targeting one) it overshoots way too far and I end up in the dirt. Once it worked and I landed where I was supposed to but then I fluffed the next jump and was back to square one. That was one time in twenty though, this new content that I looked forward to so much is already wearing thin…
I can see on my screen everyone else doing it and it working fine though. i target exactly where they land and it does not work. The same thing used to happen in zephr sanctum where it was meant to lock on to the crystal but it threw me way off into the distance and off the edge most of the time.
The only unusual thing about my setup is that I use satellite broadband.
Any chance there could be a link to this on the twitch channel?
Or, to the guy who asked before, found his own and never shared with the group – where did you find it?
Hey all, I’ve heard GW2 is amazing in 3D and as I’m just getting a new TV that supports passive 3D I thought I’d see if I could get it set up on my current rig. The problem I’m running into is most people are saying it only works with Nvidia 3D Vision goggles (and most of the articles are 2 years old).
So, is there any way I can get it to work with a panasonic txl42et60b TV and an AMD Radeon HD 6800 Series graphics card? Would I need special software or HD cable?
Thanks for any help you clever people can give me!
Noticed this after just one match in spvp after the patch – if a team mate dies on the shrine the blue “dead” icon completely obscures the shrine colour. You are not able to judge who owns it by just looking at the map, which is not very good.
Also, unimportant really but I noticed it shows your actual level now in spvp instead of 80. There’s no real reason to even show levels in pvp though is there? Maybe removing it would look better.
Thanks for the replies, I’ve contacted support =)
Not sure if this is a bug or not but it is really annoying if it is intended…
Basically I just bought myself my second ascended ring for my character and I went for “Ring of Red Death” from the WvW laurel merchant. I already had one of them equipped in the other slot but I assumed I would be able to equip two since it works that way fine with exotic gear. I was wrong.
So now I’ve just wasted 25 laurels and 250 badges of honor on something i can’t even use! Even worse, I soulbound it to see if that would make it equip…
There should be a notice that you can’t use two of the same type ascended ring! Is this the same deal with accessories too?
My burning question: what should I do with all the spare pvp items I have been hoarding in my inventory? Will they just disappear after the patch or what?
Also would like to know for sure that the stuff my characters are wearing in pvp now will still be preserved when the patch lands.
Things that make me a bit sad:
the loss of mixing and matching jewels/amulets.
Not being able to wear different looking gear in pve and pvp
Having to pay for something that used to be free (swapping armour)
Will transmutation charges be available for gold or gems only? Or can we earn them by playing?
I love the feature pack and hope that you continue to place new emphasis on improving the core systems of the game, getting them closer and closer to perfection.
I have one thing that personally bugs me every time I look at the screen when I play guild wars 2… it feels too cluttered. No offense intended, because I do think the game has lovely graphics, but it’s just that by covering the screen in buttons and writing and maps the immersion is totally broken.
Games that have a minimal UI are more immersive, and as a result more fun.
Since you have realised the wisdom in reinstating a lot of the old systems that made Guild Wars 1 great I would propose you bring back the vast customization options that game boasted.
For anyone that didn’t play or experiment much in that game, basically you could:
- re-size the skill bar, health bars, energy bars etc to ANY size you liked
- you could move them around the screen to anywhere you liked
- You could choose which elements should be on the screen or not
For me, even just the final one would be adequate for this game since you have designed a very tight skill bar that I would not want to split up or modify in any way.
What I would like to (have the option to) lose from the screen:
- The writing in the top right of the screen!! Very bad for immersion!
- the experience bar (and have skillbar automatically drop to bottom of screen if hidden)
- The party button (never used it.. since launch)
- The menu buttons at the top (fade to invisible / reappear if you take the mouse up there)
- The Mini Map. A button integrated in to the map / bottom right corner that shows or hides the map.
I hope you consider this request. Giving people some customization over the UI gives those that care about such things a sort of a connection with the game in the same way that you can “connect” to an extent with your in game character.
First of all thank you for this initiative, it’s a great idea. I will echo what others have said about bringing back some old gw1 modes. You really nailed it on a couple of them in particular for me.
Fort Aspenwood – A mode where you try to breach a castle with npc guards and enemy players inside to assassinate their leader.
Alliance Battles – 7 capture points, all guarded by NPCs, and 3 parties of 4 on each team. It was a lot more mobile, and group oriented. My personal favourite pvp of all time. I still go back to GW1 for it on the AB weeks.
Or you could try some form of 3 team pvp perhaps.
An easy change you could trial would be switching capture shrine mechanics back like the ones in AB, where if you outnumbered the enemy you could still capture it back from them.
I also would like to see pvp dueling in some organised tournament format – winner stays on type of thing, but I think an added dueling system that could be used in the mists itself would be amazing.
Picture it – you can challenge anyone in the mists to a duel right there and then. If they accept you both go into combat right there in front of everybody. It would make the mists a crazy fun place just to hang out and watch the madness unfold.
The ranks need a big rework. Waiting 10 levels between new armour choices is a big turn-off. That can take months!
Also, I’d love to be able to level alts by pvping. I don’t like leveling in pve but I wouldn’t mind having a couple more 80’s for dungeons and such.. so if there was a way to cash in glory to buy scrolls that increase your pve level I think that would be a huge boon to the game. It would also clear out a lot of the stockpiles of glory people have sitting around.
Then, you could add more unique stuff to the glory vendor. A way to get the monthly weapons such as the ones from black lion weapon specialist, or other sets not currently included in pvp.
A nice influx of new armours and weapons to the game wouldn’t go amiss generally, either.
Great job getting the trait descriptions in, that’s a gamechanger :]
I was thinking a neat addition to that page would be a copy of the attributes panel. It would be nice not to have to switch between the two tabs to see how attribute changes affect traits.
As a satellite broadband user, I can safely say latency does make a HUGE impact on tribulation mode. I managed to get through zone 1 after about 4.5 hours and hundreds of lives, but getting past the jumping rock in the lava part of zone 2 has eluded me so far. Thing is I know I could do it without the random deaths caused by lag but this just makes it ten times more difficult. It’s a shame.
It probably is lag like you say, but I don’t really get why this is the case. It’s not like my game is stuttering about or visibly lagging… it shows me as having made the jump or whatever and then you’re just dead. I honestly have had about 50 of these “unexplained” lag deaths so far, in zone 1 alone. Anyway I’ll struggle on regardless!
Yeah, I’ve had that too. But in my case it’s been a lot more than a few. Even just standing chilling where you are safe and Bam! Dead…
This is more of a query than a QQ, but were the completely random deaths in trib mode intended? I mean the times where you just jumped to somewhere you’ve stood 100 times and for some unknown reason you get killed. I’m trying to get through zone 1 of world 1 and there have been countless deaths to things I cannot identify the reason for. Not exploding flowers, lava pits, spikes or enemies, or pointy fingers or the jumpy stones that sometimes kill you but mostly just knockdown – just random death…
Intended? Seems a bit strange.
Personally I find the inability to zoom in really jarring and offputting. It just seems too far out as it is now. Please add an option!
Okay – these are just things I have encountered myself since the patch went live.
- While doing the invasion events sometimes the “crossed swords” and red event circles persist even after they are completed for some time. I’ve waypointed and ran to a few only to find there is nothing there. Not cool.
- One of the champions in said events was seemingly bugged as it’s health would regenerate back up at random times, like they do when no one is attacking it. Only thing was, we were all hitting it constantly. It regained half it’s health bar twice.
Both of the above were noted on the Timberline Falls map.
- I dropped a twisted watchwork portal and was pretty excited to use it… so I used my royal pass to go clear my inventory, and then used it. Except nothing happened. It did a bit of an animation like lightning above me and knocked me down but it took me absolutely nowhere. The item was consumed in the process. I wonder if it was because I was in the VIP area?
That’s all for now, thanks for the great update – it will keep me busy!!
I don’t know if this is related or what, but a couple of days ago 2 of the items in my mailbox (the golem banker and hero’s band that had been in there since forever) got bumped into my inventory when I received a mail from caith or someone regarding some new dungeon I was eligible for.
While it’s better than losing them forever, it’s kind of a bummer to have to now store said banker. It’s not like I had full mailbox either, only 3 items were kept in there since the “purge”…
It would have been nice if there was some way to differentiate between the balloons you have looted and those you haven’t. So many times now I have completed the event only to reach the top and realise the chest is already plundered. A different icon on the map would suffice.
Same, just noticed it happened to me too. I only lost some random cooking materials but still… not good.
- Expand the collections tabs in the bank to include space for ALL crafting materials. It seems odd that a lot of the stuff you can craft (that is another crafting material in itself) cannot be stored in here.
- When somebody dies, change the icon above their head to a skull & crossbones or something, instead of the same icon as a downed player has. It would be a lot easier to know not to try and res them in the heat of a battle.
- On the spvp map when someone dies – remove or change their profession icon to something that more clearly shows they are dead.
I know this would be a massive undertaking… but the people have spoken! Like so many others, I would love to see this change.
I’ve been adding to this list as and when I thought of some thing that I felt could be made better in the game and just now got around to posting it.
As you can probably tell from a lot of my suggestions, I mostly hang around in spvp with the occasional foray into pve.
In no particular order:
- Put coloured profession icons on the info pane for weapons & armour in a row. Only show the professions that can equip that weapon. It would look slick and instantly at a glance you know if your guardian can use this scepter you just found, or who else might be able to use it, for example.
- Allow PvP Arcane Converters to be stored in the lockers.
- Give people access to their normal bank in the heart of the mists. Give them access to their guild storage as well on another tab. A one-stop-shop.
- Remove the “item belongs to another character” restriction for pvp gear stored in the pve bank.
- Allow “skins” to be previewed off the trading post while wearing pvp armour.
- Allow loot bags gained in PvE to be opened while in PvP, for ease of clearing the inventory. While you’re at it, a normal merchant in the mists would be nice too – for dumping off that stuff you accumulated in pve.
- When putting things in the guild bank, allow items to be stacked in the storage. At the moment you must drag into inventory to combine 2 seperate stacks of the same item.
- Modify culling so that guildies and people on your friends list will not be made invisible. Nothing worse than not being able to find your friends who are only a few metres away from you. Happens all the time in the mists.
All I can think of right now!
Not to put the boot in or anything, but I’ve felt since launch that the targeting system in GW1 was a lot better than GW2. It just worked better. You could reliably cycle through all the targets on your radar, and not just the ones closest to you. Maybe this has been improved, I don’t know. Now I just target nearest and if that brings up a pet or something I’ll manually target with a mouse click. I’ve gotten used to it now but gw1 was still superior in that regard.
