The European August PvP Power Rankings are based on observable performance and objective results such as Win Ratios, Tournament Exposure, Mechanical Skill, Rotational Knowledge, Decision Making and Effective Communication. Inactive players have been excluded from the list.

These values have been gathered from multiple sources in the competitive EU scene and should reflect the general consensus of the community despite individual player opinions. We apologize for any players who feel left out or are better than some of the players on this list, but for reference purposes and concision they are included.

As a player from NA with experience in EU legend queues with 180 ping, I can with comfort say that the average values of the EU power rankings are generally 50 points higher in comparison to NA power rankings, but for simplicity we will keep the max value as 100.

Obviously no fault of theirs and if anything they should be angry about it too because if the system gave them fair matches, they very well could be higher than the other 3.

Fix Character Select Respawn

in PvP

Vallun.2071

I’m not sure if this has become a recent problem because of new changes to the game or because people are more competitive in matches now but logging to character select to avoid respawn times is an unfair advantage and should be fixed.

It is really simple if you have a fast computer. You go to character select as soon as you go down and know you will not be rezzed, log back on the same character if you wish and youre back in the game as soon as you load with no respawn timer and no bleeding out if youre off node. This makes it impossible to punish or snowball a lead after getting kills because players can get back to their team much faster. It is obviously not possible in tournament matches so why would it be ok in ranked? I understand swapping classes in the middle of a match is a thing that doesn’t exist in tournaments but I think that is fine; as long as there is some punishment for gaining another advantage.

Easy fix to this would be whenever someone loads into a ranked/unranked match (not a hot join) that has already started put them on respawn. This wouldn’t stop people from preventing bleed outs but it will atleast minimize the incentive to do it and it would also make swapping classes a risk reward choice as well.

I’m not going to call out anyone but I know a lot of people have started doing this in the higher tier matches because they will do anything to prevent losing rating. It personally feels terrible when I see someone log out after I win a 1v1 and they are back in the team fight as soon as I can rotate in after capping the side node I killed them at.

Reasons why thief is not OP

Vallun.2071

The main issue with thief is pulmonary impact does the same damage as a backstab from behind. It gives players incentive to spam head shot for pulmonary impact procs and promotes brainless game play, rewarding interrupting random animations rather than key skills. And its fine if you spam headshot because even if you dont get some pulm burst damage off you will be charging lead attacks for your massively buffed auto attack which requires no initiative.

I’m not saying thief should be nerfed though, just that this series of balance changes and bad design on pulmonary make for some poor gameplay (but this is fine because every other class is at least this mindless to play, and thief only gets more difficult in higher tier games). At most pulm should get like a 15% dmg reduction, but saying that thief beats ele in a 1v1 is besides the point. Of course you’re going to kill something eventually that can’t counter pressure you, but if anything rotates in the thief is susceptible to instantly dying or having a terrible 2v2 match up.

I agree with helseth that PI has bad design, but dueling in a controlled situation does not make thief a good 1v1er. If the enemy team has a thief and your thief tries to 1v1 anything it can just instantly die. Are we forgetting how fragile thief is? I mained necro in scrims before ToL and I could easily counter pressure thieves with instant swaps. Maybe a look at signet of agility is necessary because it makes thief too safe to have 11 dodges. Signet of agility is mandatory on the meta DD build in competitive environment, giving you self sustain, team support, and damage increase. It does seem like helseth is afraid that the best thief in the game wont be on his team though.

In other words even if thief has some good match ups vs meta builds it cannot risk or afford to put itself in that kind of role. And all the other classes that usually take 1v1s win that matchup anyway (ranger, engi, warrior, DH, mesmer is iffy). Thief is still balanced by its fragility and lack of sustained damage. If anything needs to be changed its the amount of dodges thief has by looking at signet of agility.

P.S. remove acrobatics’ ability to perma dodge, its uninteractive and annoying.

Why AP for the top 250 titles is not cool

Vallun.2071

What is the " intent and spirit of our achievement system" then? because most achievements nowadays are just signs of participation. Other than for skins it seems pointless if there isn’t going to be at least some degree of exclusivity other than “were you there when a historical living story event happened?”. Granted I don’t think they handled this seasons achievement point rewards well, especially because the top 10 is just 5 people if you include toker and kat’s alt accounts. Just reaching legend once should give you an achievement like last seasons, which is hard enough as is without even having to hold it until the end of the season, or even platinum if the exponential rating punishments seem too harsh at those tiers.

My vision of achievement points is showing experience in all game modes. So even a “win this many matches during the season” achievement would be fine because you have to get exposed to the pvp meta that season to win that many matches, thus gaining experience in that game type. I guess that is kind of what they were going for with the reward chest progression though.

Anyway, I can chill now I guess because maintaining my spot in the top 25 doesn’t really matter. A “____ legend” title isn’t really that appealing to me.

Design more challenging achievements though, ty

The issue with revenant was not that it did too much damage, it was that the meta build was basically to go full damage traits and have the damage of a pve build with the utility of a pvp build. Thats just a flaw of the design, but to fix it they made it impossible to not go full damage build now. Doesn’t that make it more difficult to play in lower tier where its a hard class to play? I don’t really agree with their choices meeting their purposes.

Part 2
The next morning was scheduled training with Master Randol. Still brooding over the events of last night, Veillantif took the long route to the commons. The cemetery on the eastern side of the Plaza of Grenth was more brightly lit at this time of day than times she often passed it. The undertaker, an older sylvari by their race’s young standards, engrossed himself in his usual studies. In the streets two kids played with wooden swords. Tif momentarily sighed at their childishness, but moved on after remembering she too carriekittene sword.
Master Randol’s abode looked much more welcoming than in the dream. After formalities and greetings the norn grabbed some full-sized wooden training dummies, and they both headed into the fields of Shaemoor.
“What techniques are we working on today?” Tif asked unenthusiastically.
Randol walked several more paces into the clearing then placed one of the dummies upright.
“You have your sword with you?” Randol said.
“Yes I have it with—.”
“Drop it,” Randol interupted. " Today you will work on more than just swordplay." He paused. “You have until noon to do something to this dummy, but I’m not telling you what. I’ll give you an approving sound if I feel you’re getting closer to it.”
“Wait. You can’t give me any hint?” Tif inquired, already focusing on the task.
“I’ll help you if I feel like it. For now explore the countless actions one thing could do to another. And don’t think too hard about it, you have limited time.”
Tif tried to get it over with by doing the least obvious things to the dummy, but she soon realized that everything she did created more possibilities. Hugging the dummy triggered the idea to lift the dummy, then remembering when she dropped her weapon made her drop the dummy. Randol only yawned while taking a seat in the grass.
Realizing this may be a numbers game, Tif began repeating all her actions to every limb, from every direction: throwing dirt, pushing, and poking. As she internalized this process she thought of more possibilities outside the realm of mere action, “What if I had to say something to it?”
“Where are you from?” Tif said aloud.
“Drakkar,” Randol casually replied despite lacking eye contact.
“That’s really far north,” Tif said while slowing her pace.
“No choice. The dragon kicked us out.”
“Do you ever miss your old home?”
“Naaah, it’s why you don’t see me in Hoelbrak either.”
Tif took a minute to focus before continuing the conversation. “Do you think your old lands are worth something though, maybe you have a family tomb?”
“Most norn prefer to die as they live: out in the wild. No need to cage them afterwards.”
“But what if you did?”
“I don’t know. Let them rest.”
Losing interest in her training, Tif tried again, “You sure you can’t give me a hint?”
“Just use your time wisely. You might not be able to do one thing if you do another.”
By now the sun was glaring into Veillantif’s eyes and she knew this meant her time was running out. Frustrated, she kicked the dummy, offsetting its balance and crashing to the ground. Before she could pick it back up Randol exclaimed “Ahah!”
Tif’s brow creased at the thought of repeating everything she did to a downed dummy, but her desire to move on to another lesson set her to work: pushing and kicking. Not long after, Tif jumped over the dummy to get a different angle with her moves.
Randol exclaimed again, “That’s it! I wanted you to jump over the dummy.”
Tif gathered a deep breath into a long sigh, which she felt an urge to repeat on the dummy.
_______________________________________________

After washing up from training that day, Veillantif took an early evening nap. She wakes up in the dead of night. “What my father does is his business,” she thought, “but if we can barely afford my lessons I’ll have to get a job in the city. I’ll become a real person. Not a statue.”
She gathered some of her bed linens and fashioned a dark brown cloak by sewing a few ends together with scissors and thread. Not the greatest fit, but it would do. Then she unhinged the window and slowly backed out of it, grabbing stray crevasses on the way down. She cringed at the thought of running barefoot through the city just to lose some noise, so she kept her rawhide footings on, pulled up her makeshift hood, and crept out of the housing area.
The same route she took earlier that day, The Plaza of Grenth was certainly the quietest region of Divinity’s Reach at night. None of the private homes, not even a single balcony was lit throughout, except for the undertaker’s window in his cove adjacent to the cemetery. Easily avoiding this, she moved on to the Ossan Quarter.
This region housed more of the leisurely residents of Divinity’s Reach, and they accordingly lacked curfews. Only several of the houses were lit up, making it harder to recognize the place she was at the night before. Still it did not take long for Veillantif to identify the minister’s mansion with all of the chatter coming from the central lit area. “Oh, gods,” she thought, “does this guy party every night?” Two guards sat post outside the entrance to the mansion. “He doesn’t lack decorations. That’s for sure.” Tif almost approached the guards hoping she could talk her way into the mansion, but realized she was wearing poorly sewn linens. She sighed, remembering her training from earlier today. “I guess I didn’t consider this line of actions.”
She tugged on the thatch of the adjacent house as inconspicuously as possible. They were firm enough to climb. Before she decided the best way to approach, a hooded sylvari stepped out of the alley. Without getting too close to the guards, Tif pretended to continue toward a destination. Flashbacks to her training continued as time passed vividly in front of her, this time limiting the chain of actions she could postpone with. Both characters held their heads downward. Afterwards she followed the edge into a small alley where the sylvari came out of, lifted herself onto the thatching from a stray pile of crates. From here she could leap over to one of the balcony platforms of the mansion across the alley, and sneak in through a window.
The atmosphere inside the hallway of the mansion’s second floor immediately opposed all belonging Tif could assume.
“This place is packed,” she thought upon hearing the numerous voices downstairs. The lights were also on in the second floor. She lifted her makeshift robe off as if her normal leather tunic and rawhide footings were any more appropriate. The best place to look for something incriminating would be in one of the private rooms, so Tif began investigating in her immediate proximity.
There were certainly occupants in some of the rooms. One door Tif held her head next to resounded to the sighs of a gentleman and woman. “Easy enough to avoid,” Tif thought. Another door closer to the stairwell gave refuge to a snoring man. It was easy to avoid, but hard to resist this opportunity. The sound of the door opening was inconspicuous in comparison to the loud inhaling of the man face down at the desk, appearing to be the central focus of the office room. She crept over to the desk and quietly slipped a piece of paper out from underneath the forehead of the sleeping man. The paper accounts for monetary exchanges: The Seraph Reinstatement Program – 4000g, Zephyr Season Taxes + 1000g, Bandit Inquiry – 500g, Jennah’s Jubilee Payment – 500g, etc.
“These are too conspicuously ambiguous,” Veillantif thought as she knotted the hood of hear cloak and threw the paper in it. As she was ready to check some of the cupboards she caught a glimpse of the man’s rosy-wine face. If not for him having a drink in hand the last time they met, she might not have recognized the drunken minister before her.
Before any other items of interest could be investigated, a loud bursting of rain began. Tif could feel the balance disturbed in the minister’s sleep, in the outside guests now shuffling inside, and in her overstayed welcome. She darted out into the hallway and to the loose window she originally entered through. Before climbing out into the rain Tif unfastened the knot in her cloak hood but kept the paper hidden. Across the hallway a man in armor protruded from the stairs facing her. Alarmed by the probable delinquent, the guard approached the window which Tif took no hesitation to eject herself from. The balcony, the thatching of the next house, and the pavement felt no different to her feet. The adrenaline took over before she could think otherwise, but eventually thought flowed back into her brain. As she dashed across the city she worried about ruining her father’s reputation when she only meant to sever a connection. Shadows of statues loomed over her, masquerading as pursuing guards.
Tif calmed down as she passed the Plaza of Grenth, hoping that she wasn’t followed this far. The undertaker’s window still lit up reminded Tif of the sylvari she passed by the minister’s mansion. “It is possible they could be the same person,” she thought. “Father wouldn’t believe what I’d done, or would just punish me for it. Maybe the only person that will understand is him.” She paused near one of the mausoleums in the cemetery which had engraved near the roofline “What Will Sheep Count When They Must Sleep.” Veillantif turned towards the undertaker’s workshop, now thoughtfully placing every next step.

Veillantif’s Story

Veillantif stepped outside of her modest Rurikton housing into a foggy afternoon. The nearby noble’s quarter, still retired from last night’s lavishness, and the absence of the usual circus troupe made even Divinity’s Reach, the greatest existing human city, seem dead. On the main road that circled the city there were only a few merchants today, their usual inventory ranging from roosters to dyed linens to cheaply-forged weaponry. Continuing towards the commons, she stepped off into an alley which was normally lit up at this time. She had seen the shadowy characters that lingered around here before, but never on such a cloudy day as this. Nevertheless her mentor’s house was in this direction and judging by the sun there was no time to waste taking the larger roads.
Veillantif reached a small house where the grass was scarce, not because of traffic but because of her and her mentor’s sparring. Tif projected her voice, “Master Randol, I’m here.” A large man wearing steep leather boots and a hearty fur vest ducked his head under the door frame. She was afraid of him the first time they met; but now she knew this sweet old Norn would hurt no one, given they were innocent. The giant Norn greeted her with a smile.
“Today we’re going over vulnerable points for you and your enemy, but first I need to go get something I left at the blacksmith. Wait here for a bit. I’ll leave the door open for you.”
She nodded as he clomped off toward the main street. Ignoring the offer, she wandered a couple houses over. Veillantif was not mischievous, but rather inquisitive. This characteristic always prevented her from lingering on any subject or practice for long.
A creaking door reminded her of her mentor’s absence. Two men in dark grey robes stood in the doorway, gradually rotating their heads. Tif wanted to run to the blacksmith’s, but then she remembered a noblewoman once saying that their gold jewelry collection had been stolen in the few moments she spent watering her garden. Tif had not seen these two before, but she knew they were no good. She thought of disappointing her mother, who as a practitioner of the Virtues taught Veillantif many aspects of the guardian. She thought of the possible harm to her mentor, and the disappointment of her father if she could not continue her studies. After losing their mother, Tif felt extra pressure from her father to become a similarly great fighter.
There were plenty of swords inside the house she could use, or maybe they could be reasoned with. She approached them cautiously, scrambling her thoughts into words she might say. Deciding that a safe distance would be best for getting their attention, she stopped and prepared to call out to them. Nothing.
Caught in her throat, nervous thoughts became inaudible utterances. She got closer so that she might be able to get their attention despite struggling to speak. When she reached the doorway, the two figures had already moved inside. She followed the only sound she could hear to the back room where she noticed one of the figures ransacking the place. The other one, closer to her, noticed her presence and turned, revealing a bare skull on a clothed skeleton. She jumped back in horror, but still she was only screaming silently.
Veillantif snapped into consciousness, now feeling the force of the book she had been sleeping on. Footsteps rattled the staircase leading to her room. She wiped her face and opened the book titled, “Modern Translations of Old Ascalonian Drama”. The crack in her door opened for an older man, who on entering said, “How’s it going?”
“Great, dad. When can we can we go see these?”
“They don’t perform them anymore. Kormir isn’t in any of them, so many people think it’s irrelevant to us today. But here you are, reading them… right?”
She paused, “Umm…”
“Why is the left side of your face red?” After another pause he sighed. “Tif, you are not Sylvaari, and that book is no longer a tree. You must actually read it if you want to become a great guardian like your mother.”
She opened the book wider and presumed interest. Her father stopped half way out of the door and said, “Try to get some sleep. We’re going to the Minister’s mansion tomorrow night.”
__________________
Tif’s father was never much of a party hound, especially now that he had business with the Minister. Nevertheless, any type of congregation at a Minister’s mansion resulted in politics and liquor. Tif amused herself by juggling the conversations of the other guests, but lost interest when mithril investments became the dominant topic. A dark grey robe caught her attention from outside in the garden. The same one she saw in her dream, but it wasn’t real that time. The chatter of the guests became muted as she followed the figure outside. With less contrast between the shadows and the figure now than the inside lights, Tif squinted for a while without wandering out of range of the safety of the gathering. Then a green glow appeared with a voice.
“You are not afraid then.”
“Who are you?” Tif replied warily.
“Tonight your father along with others will be offered compensation for their heritage in the Ascalonian blood, in exchange for their permission to allow excavation of their remains from the catacombs. It’s amazing what the rich will do to justify stealing from the dead.”
Still incredulous, Tif only managed a “What.”
“You are still uncorrupted by the want of money. Stop your father before he goes through with this desecration.”
“Why does this matter to you?”
“I am merely a patron of the arts,” the disembodied voice said slyly.
Taking on the voice’s change of tone, Tif replies “Rich preys make true men thieves.”
“And poor men are to thieves never prey,” the mysterious voice replied just as quickly. “Clearly you’ve read your books. As you see, a squire has no equipment and no wealth of their own with which to expend. If they are made into a knight, they will perhaps need to also be a robber, liar, beggar, or have some other vices which are contrary to chivalry.”
Veillantif felt the presence drifting away at this time, and scanned the area to see where it may be receding to. After a moment she headed back inside. Passing a guard she remembered the mysterious voice’s words. “Are these what squires become, statues at noble gatherings?” she thought. “Funding my training isn’t such a bad thing, but just so I can become this?” She returned to her father and for the rest of the night listened in silence.

There are a few things in HoT that are keeping thief from its former spot in the meta.

1. There are so many passive blocks and evades with revenants and scrappers and mesmers that almost any fight can be stalled for long enough to make the low sustain of the thief detrimental. My suggestion is give some of the utilities and weapon skills like scorpion wire or shadow shot unblockable. This wouldnt increase the damage of the thief but instead make it so people cant just stall out small fights with individual cd rotations. It would give thieves a better role in team fights because they can push through barriers that other classes cant to seal out kills.

2. Boons from eles and revenants and scrappers are too easily spat out. Before bountiful theft was good at focusing a target down because it removed prot and stab, but if you steal prot from a scrapper they just automatically get it back, and eles just have perma prot. Mallyx revenant can do unblockable cleaving spammable (look at all these modifiers) boon strip. Give thieves a more reliable and more consistent boon removal like a trait in crit strikes that removes boons when you hit an enemy. Its not like you need 3 pve traits in the master line anyway. Or make bountiful theft steal more boons.

I realize that thief is very close to being viable, and that giving it buffs may make it overpowered. However, none of these changes would make thief do more damage, just ensure they can deal it when they need to.

Why not The Abjured? They are almost undefeated in PvP, I’m sure they will be great PvErs.

So apparently this guardian trait scales with other guardians using the trait allowing a zerg of 20 guardians to auto attack a gate with hammer for around 1k dmg. Siege is slower. The programming on this needs to be how many of YOUR symbols are under the enemy, not how many symbols are under the enemy.

Long Reach

I was thinking about the new traits and specializations and did not notice long reach (steal range increased by 600). Is this being added to another trait or something? I think this is an interesting and fun trait option that I would not like to lose for builds like the one shot or dagger storm bombs.

with the new shield and well skills, as well as alacrity, mesmers are more than equipped to deal thieves a fatal blow and reverse the age-long sentiment that thieves counter mesmer

until thiefs new specializations come out, those will also counter mesmer

Llamas

So I remember receiving like two llamas before this whole llama upgrading thing was introduced, but I don’t remember where they are. This led me to the issue of the compatibility of the new llama upgrading system and the minipet wardrobe.

I believe that when you bind a minipet to your account it deletes the inventory item, making it unable to be used in a mystic forge recipe. This means that you can’t keep the former tier llama unless you make an extra. I don’t know if this is the intended process, or whether it will work like ledgendarys where it unlocks the precursor when made, but I think an interesting approach to this process would be through the collection system.

The leaderboards shouldn’t be tailored to casuals or for top teams. Casuals have their pvp reward tracks. Pros have their tournaments. Leaderboards should be tailored for semi-competitive pvpers. I know this is more difficult to define, but nothing should be oversimplified. Win ratio needs to have a bigger effect so that skill is a greater factor, but also activity should be factored to force teams to put themselves out there and risk their rating (or maintain it if they deserve it). Obviously saying it should be somewhere in between where it was and where it is now is the correct answer, but it isn’t the most exact. Anet doesn’t have an easy job, but I trust they will figure it out eventually. More news soon™.

I’m not “too pro.” I just find the map boring.

Would you be upset if someone thought forest was boring and didn’t play and left you stranded? What if it was foefire/skyhammer/etc…

Its about sportsmanlike conduct kitten not even that its being a decent teammate lol

I’ve already got him blocked from earlier games LOL. He’s not a decent teammate or foe.

Garden Festival Committee [SeeD] [NA] is looking for more open minded players for Fractals, SPvP, and other content. No requirements, no kittenbags, just people who want a quality community.

We’re SeeD…special forces, not gophers stacking through predetermined paths.

As members of SeeD, you will be dispatched all over the world. You will be proceeding to a real battlefield. Obviously, the battles are for real. When the time comes… cooperation will be the greatest virtue in combat. But I’m not entirely without sympathy for you. I don’t want you all to become machines. I want you all to be able to think and act for yourselves. If you’re undecided or unsure, stay that way and follow through with your indecision.

That is only one aspect of SeeD. Life and death, victory and defeat, honor and disgrace… Each of these go hand in hand. The true goal of SeeD is to spread seeds all over the world…to grow them… and to fill the world with flowers.

Oh my god the nostalgia. I remember back before I graduated being up until 4am doing team queues to get to shark/phoenix rank. Me and pepper would always hope we didnt match up against Marvin’s pug because they were the only team better (only team) than ours at that hour. I also remember watching Oeggs stream when he got to r70 and just being amazed at how awesome that finisher was. I wrote a whole poem about how i would never get it, filled with all this shark imagery and how it would regret never being able to fly. But then they gave everyone dragon for free…

i will always be able to perma stealth when i want to, just not as easily of course. Stealth chaining has always existed for us non shadow artists.

This is more about lack of weapons, though i can see why adding anything to a class that already has stealth would be concerning.

IDK, I think the offhand would have to be stealth related to match the black powder and cloak and dagger of the other two off hands. Would make sense, a thief snuffing out a light gives stealth or something like that.

Stealth just has a bad reputation from perma stealth builds. Stealth attacks are part of the skill set so I think having no stealth is limiting as well.
