Personally, I’d like to even go more extreme. Like have a new dungeon that requires a QP to enter and then immediately after the final boss fight, you actually have to fight another group that completed the dungeon in a mini PvP “map” with no respawns for the best possible dungeon reward.
Terrible idea. Would do well to justify ‘LFG full exotics in PvE, rank 80+ in PvP’. And that’d be incredibly small group.
Not to mention that – for PvErs – getting QP would be incredible boring grind. I for myself am PvE & like sPvP… But I’d begin to hate it if I felt forced into it to do PvE.
Not against PvE-usable rewards in PvP, though. Zaishen keys, chests etc were fine.
Also, not a fan of skins transparency between PvE and PvP. And CERTAINLY not a fan of ‘easy gearing’ through PvP.
P.S. And then next year replace every ‘kitten’ with a charr.
I should really consider opening the topic like ‘Charr are kitten’
The Norns – as far as I understand – have Nordic influences. Think: Vikings. If you read some of viking sagas, you’ll find that their idea of ‘hero’ was different from ours. We e.g. don’t put emphasis on individual bravery – in most modern armies soldier who charged enemy lines with laugher is more prone to punishment for disobeying orders than respect of his natives,
And I’m not saying that every single Viking regularly got drunk enough to kill other men in brawl – I’m just saying that PC, as the ‘hero’ of his people, is expected to be exemplar of some kind. And the Norn’s idea of hero is not connected with ‘ideal, normal member of community’. In fact, I believe that the drunkard act could be met with some applaud, as your character showed he have some guts (as much as antisocial this act could be).
That said, I believe Norn story is too much vanilla. Not enough bloodshed, pompous speeches about heroism, etc. – not exactly my kind of story.
TL;DR: I think that there’s nothing wrong with aforementioned act – you just don’t like the core beliefs of Norn.
I am not sure if it has been answered somewhere else, but I’d like to know if there are plans to implement hotjoining (like in other dungeons) in future. I understand that design choices were that in FotM you can’t really hotjoin (the same as you can’t go to WP), but I wonder if we can at least get some hotjoining in between Fractals. (e.g. someone dc’d in the Fractal 1 can go toFractal 2)
Love the Fractals.
Would like to have some hot-join, though. Or some look at the DC mechanics – it’s just too hard to finish it in PUG without running on someone’s Disconnect, some rage quitter or somewhat.
The same. Third time in 24 hours – still not having access. The same with friend I was in a party with. Makes me wonder as there’s not much time left to LS.
And Gandara[EU] too.
Edit: logged now.
Edit2: oh, 15 seconds to build. Kicked. And connection error

I’ve just completed this quest with my friend on our alts. I have Durnand Priory Asura, she has Order of Whisper one. We both were on story step when we both needed to defend LA. We completed the quest and then quest completed for her without question. (like: there were no window asking if he choose to accept the progress) And as I know, her diary entry about Battle for Claw Island was bugged afterwards – cut in the middle of sentence.
You people really have some trust issues. They have officially said that they will not be creating further tiers of armor past this set. I’m sure they’re aware that they can be quoted on such matters. You aren’t wasting anything.
Can I ask you for the source? I am pretty sure they only stated they aren’t going to add new tier every three months. Which is pretty vague.
Still feeling disappointed, but after a few hours I realized funny thing… this is only gonna get me far from grinding.
I did this – as part of my ‘horizontal progression’. I have my full (well, almost – 2 runs missing) Svanir armor set. It’s 23+ runs of the dungeon. About 10+ hours of doing it – maybe longer, because I refused to use HotW p3→p2 exploit & a few times I’ve been hitted by diminished returns. I also have exotic accessories etc. – a few more hours to get. I’ve also had Corrupted Blade until I accidentally destroyed it. Add another 10 hours.
It’s pretty big investment – about 25 hours just to get fine gear. 8% of my playtime But hell, I felt that was worth it. But it was worth it because it was one time investment – I was sure that I won’t have to ever change this set. And I was sure that it’d be still somewhat remarkable after all this time.
Now, I won’t go for Ascended gear. If game will throw useful & souldbound ring on me – it’s fine. But otherwise I don’t feel the need to instantly go for slight improvement in my stats. I’ll get it in due time – when they’ll introduce another gear tier, and (as far as I can imagine) the price will drop substantially. Now I’ll just get exotics when the price will drop to the points where the yellows will be. I’ll skip the ‘only Ascended!’ LFG. And I’m pretty sure difficulty won’t bite me in my kitten Going into somewhere one tier late shouldn’t be so hard. Except this Fractals dungeon – but again, its main point will be farming Ascended (I believe), so I can just skip it.
From the sounds of it, the gear will be completely random too. So not only will WvW players have to grind for dungeon gear, but they’ll have to run the dungeon a lot for the random chance.
Did they state somewhere it’ll be soulbond by default? (except – prolly – rings…)
Seeing as infused gear is in the original guild wars, it doesn’t seem like they’ve strayed of their course at all.
Infused gear in GW1 didn’t really do anything. And it wasn’t tier of gear – it was just status you obtained from completing one objective in one mission. Completely different thing.
And I for one don’t tell that I’m gonna finish my adventure with GW2. Game is pretty awesome. I just wish they told us from the start…
“The only way to mitigate Agony damage is by building up resistance through Infusions, a new type of upgrade component that can be acquired in the Mystic Forge.”
If that’s the only purpose for Infusion, I’m curious how Offensive one should work… ;P
Webba – ‘Unused Infusion Defensive Slot’. I think that Infusion is upgrade here.
I’m more concerned now about exactly how the Infusion will work. If it works like the one from first GW, then I think I’ll manage. Well, hope they should make at least way to painlessly infuse dungeon armors – otherwise I’ll feel really, really stupid about farming my Svanir armor…
(and still, disappointed very much in you, ANet)
player cast bars, i assume is being able to see your enemy’s cast time and what they’re using. once again, pointless in a game that hardly has cast bars, and most last 3 seconds at most, and where each skill is visually unique.
Some times I’ve been trying to time mesmer’s Feedback on boss based on his skill animations and found out that I’ve barely seen it – boss was obscured almost entirely by some shiny AoE effects from my party Made it almost impossible. Otherwise, ofc, it’s really fine.
Oh yeah, you gotta watch those healing turrets man, they’ll farm mobs no problem!
Is this serious? Obviously he just left them there on his way to another area.
Sir, speaking in this tone without doing proper investigation of issue is plain disrespectful.
But, since some things needs clearing:
- barring elite skill Supply Crate, there’s limit of one healing turret per engineer. Two, with Supply Crate elite skill.
- moreover, it’d be extremely hard to have two pairs of turrets that ‘overlap’ – you’d basically need four engineers for that, standing right besides each other (to the point their char models clip). I guarantee you won’t be able to use Supply Crate to create such an effect without much tries.
- assuming they use their maximum limit of two healing turrets, you’d still need three engineers.
- towers vanish, if you change zones or logout – and looking that it was 4 a.m. in Europe, where the server is located…
- leaving the tower behind nets you 60s cooldown, when you’ll need next healing skills.
etc., etc. So we have 3+ engis playing in the middle of night, that for some strange reason stacked their towers in the way presented in attachements, then for some strange reasons ALL left their towers behind, etc. …
Yeah, it’s definitely possible. But then again – I’d much more believe that five ‘FDsgrar’ range with identical bears are genuine players. (hey! – they could be big, extended family of twins with poor imagination for names)
Thing is: I leveled my little Asura thief in the Bloodtide Coast. Here, I run in something definitely strange – a few healing towers, left behind in the middle of nowhere. Strangely, they were placed in somewhat curious way – two were build on top of each other, like someone wanted to hide their numbers. (mind you – can give you more detailed screen, somewhat more convincing: the turrets [another ones, a few meters ahead] that look like one turret even at close inspection – they only have two names to show that there are actually two towers here)
As far as my understanding of engineer abilities go, it’s either a bug or there are a few bots near. And in both cases, it asks for report.
So – basically – what should I report? Bug? Botting? And in second case – how should I do that? Any ideas?
Then, as sugested before, you can easily develop your character through craft. 8 completed professions = 80 lvl achieved.
E.g. ice shards, boulders, itd., that are found somewhere in the world. They actually replace some of your skills – and some are ever useful. (like the boulders used to knock Ralena and her lover down)
Those situational options weren’t tied to e.g. skill recharge time – and now recharges time for both weapons aren’t connected. It’s very different situation than from first GW.
Besides, as far as situational options go, you can easily grab some bundle ;P
On the other hand I think that the beggar in LA complaining that he can’t afford even a decent clothes and refunding me 1/2 or 1/3 Karma for Karma things I give him (hey, it’s good thing to help the poor!) would be pretty awesome ;P
^Asura Thief ;P
2. add more rez points in WvW …. i personally quit WvW cause of how long the running back was. done with that
In the case your side is winning, you’ll just get ressed. In the case of loss, you and your side should be penalized for it – otherwise it’ll become Zerg vs. Zerg: Infinite Respawn Edition.
I’d also like to point that e.g. in EB, players on the side controlling Stonemist upgraded with WP already can IMHO arrive everywhere in 3 minutes. Further adding WPs would only lead to aforementioned Zerg vs. Zerg: Infinite Respawn Edition.
And it’s not like those maps are soooo huge.

Any chance you did this overwiev from LA? Specifically LA overflow?
If so, the attachement is redundant – from LA overflows you see ALL the waypoints that could go conteste as contested.
OK… clearly inspired by some other thread about the followers & following you. Thing is that I recently blocked someone. He just angered me somehow.
Now, the curious part – now I can see his informations. I can see the name of characters they play on, I can see where this character is, the name of their account… pretty much only thing I can’t see is their proffession & lvl.
This gives me more information than if I e.g. added him to my friend list without him adding me back. I have the strong feeling that this is somewhat uncalled for. Is this the mistake? Are there any plans to reverse this?
..there is no opposition. I have no problem with there being a ffa pvp server, Im just telling you why it isnt going to happen. You would need weeks to months of code changes and that is not free, so what is their incentive? You guys who want it are already playing the game, without new money, it wont happen because its too cost prohibitive at this point.
Why would there be dragon fights? if lore is changed and everyone is fighting everyone..why would the pact exist? if races contest one another..how are you going to get over there? all waypoints points would be closed off to you save your town or whatever..it would take hours of traveling just to reach somewhere to fight. Its a complete change of their engine and story..that server would be a complete scrap of all the code thus far..again, whats in it for them?
This – and mind that some ones already criticized them for putting some efforts on Halloween events over some other changes (changes in question depends on critizian). And ANet has got limited human resources committed to the developement of GW 2 – so if they would work on open world PvP, they wouldn’t have time for pretty much anything… at least if they actually planned to finish it soon.
And honestly, committing that resources to developing some other content would probably make much more people happy.
Yeah, we wouldn’t be affected. Except they would have to:
- rebuild event system (‘cause most of event aren’t meant for open world PvP).
- redesign LA and its purpose to fit it in new, open worldly PvP situation – if lore would encourage some warfare, this community wouldn’t be possible, period. And possibly tune other cities to accomodate server populaces.
- possibly change something about personal story (‘cause lore would have to fit).
- prepare two versions of seasonal events – making sure the open world PvP wouldn’t get in line.
- etc.
And yeah, we wouldn’t be affected at all by designers attention swapping to PvP servers we don’t want and not to fixing some issues with game.
But many basic feature people have come to expect were in other games at release or soon afterwards, where we are now. Instead we get fluff for Halloween, which will be long forgotten in a few weeks, instead of features that shoudl’ve already been implemented.
Not true. Mind that Halloween was the most popular of GW 1 events – and I for one would be very disappointed if it didn’t made its way into GW 2.
Also, at least in original, next events used the same foundations as previous – meaning that they already won’t have to take time to e.g. redesign entire Lion’s Arch during the next events.
Can I ask you why you named this topic ‘what made you stop playing’? It is entirely misleading (meaning that there could be any discussion here about reasons besides those in your rant) and doesn’t fit even a little.
Edit: Nvm, title changed already ;P

Nah, they are Veteran giants in Orr. And I really believe that there’s more Veteran Risen Giants in this game than just 2.
Never really gotten into original GW PvP – and I agree with original poster.
Moreover, for me splitting also removes very beneficial function of Heart of the Mist & PvP in general. Thing is: even with 2nd lvl char, you can get insight at how things will work when you’re lvl 80. I also tried elementalist’s elites with my ele – and decided to grasp one of them after two others proved to be impossible to contain within my playstyle. And I think I’m not the only one who uses HotM as the testing grounds not only for PvP, but for PvE as well.
I’d like to correct some misunderstandings. I don’t think ‘forced grouping’ is good thing. I only used this wording because it seems like it’s used here quite a time. I don’t also consider myself a gamer in the ‘elitarist’ sense of the world. I am just the one that could enjoy the game slightly more.
But my point is that ‘noone has to group’ paradigmat is atricious to the value of teamwork & the attractiveness of missions. The point is that:
- material has to be solo-able. Therefore, you can’t e.g. implement the challenge that would require actually someone else to distract the boss while some glass cannons hit it. Much less – anything more complicated.
- it has to be compatibile with every one playstyle. Mission should be compatibile with kittening HS thief with no vitality as much as the toughness / vit warrior who isn’t exactly the DPS.
This two features are a good thing… except they force you to abandom a whole lot a good ideas. Like e.g. missions requiring some splitting, fights like lover from AC. Oh, and teamwork while in party suffers too. Let’s take a look at e.g. boss A. While I’m alone, he’s just boss A. When I’m in two players party, he’s eventually still boss A. Just two times his health and two times his DPS. But what’s the matter? Statistically, we now have 2 times kur DPS and the boss attention is divided between us, so we still take the same amount of DPS → we still pass him just by playing by ourselves, like the second one never existed. That denies (at least for me) entire point of actually being into party. And for that matter – no, I don’t consider scaling any good answer. At least in unsophisticated shape I’ve seen to date. So no, I don’t feel like being one day late.
And I’m perfectly aware of the existence dungeons. Now, I wouldn’t have any problem if missions were just interesting. Sadly, I don’t feel like Orrian part of story has any replayability value. Just butchering through waves of enemies designed specifically not to mess with any specific playstyle. And IMHO at least part of the reason tor this state of things is that they had to comply with ‘everyone can solo it, no forced grouping’ doctrine.
I don’t think that ‘grouping needed’ is good thing. I like being in party but don’t like feel being forced. It’s just the side effects on game design I’m concerned with.
And seriously, I think that original GW heroes gave me much better ‘no forced grouping’ experience than GW 2 scaling had.
I am curious – anyone else besides me thinks that „no forced grouping” is poor design choice?
Personally, I think that while it’s casual-friendly, it also prevents developers from implementing some variety to the campaign. I just remembered first GW – specifically Cantha and missions like Vizunah Square & Unwaking Waters. Its specific seemed like perfect patent for the final quests of GW 2 – since Priory, Vigil and Whispers would have different roles on the battlefield, the end part of the story would be ideal for those type of „joint missions”. And IMHO it would be awesome if one of the missions were e.g. battle for the three parties, where the Vigil characters would try to defend some stagnant objective whilst Whispers would assassinate commanders & Priory would fire some artillery. Or sth else along this lines.
And yeah, I know it’s too late for it now – but would like to see it in some expansion. And I’d prefer fun personal story over the personal story I could do all by myself
and – IMHO – cleansing of Orr simply wasn’t worth the risk. Especially when cleansing of Orr could be more easily done after the victory.
OK. I’d be happy to hear your feedback about this quest. It just bugs me. I re-read most dialogues on Wiki just to make sure if there isn’t some spotlight on e.g. what could Trahearne’s spell could do – but I didn’t find it. I also tried to find some details on why the heck should Pale Tree be in such esteem in other races but I couldn’t. So… I’d be happy if someone else defended its point for me – I’m really not so much bend on hating this part of story but it just doesn’t make sense to me which e.g. makes Cleansing of Orr something like Urn of St. Victor or Spear of Archemorus
When I encountered Trahearne’s proposition „go to the Pale Tree”, I instantly begin to hope they gave me some basic choice. But no, they didn’t. Hence my TL;DR text-wall about this quest and its point – partially because I just don’t thing it was necessary in plot and partially because I just don’t understanding the meaning of Trahearne’s WH.
First thing, it’s great asspul. This world have races like Asura who lived in the Central Transport Chamber for centuries – and if you’re gonna convince me they never studied their primary energy source I’m gonna laugh at you. And then, Destroyers pushed them from home and they should have like a century’s worth of research on Elder Dragons matter. This world has also heroes like Ogden Stonehealer – who: 1) was there since the first sightings of Elder Dragon’s minions, 2) he’s Durnand Priory – so he prolly studied them since loooong time, 3) is dwarf & monk – and should have entire Tome of the Rubicon (which Orders – I don’t know why – felt was necessary to excavate). Finally, there are Mists – and Mists (though ever somewhat undefined) are the one of the realms of afterlife as well as proto-reality between worlds. And I believe it’s somewhat good place to look for „directions”. Each of those strikes me as better choice than Pale Tree – sylvari’s been around (IIRC) only twenty five years, and they had unfortunate first contacts etc., had to grab the some basics knowledge… And to make long story short – I doubt anyone (except sylvaris) could think of Pale Tree as expert on this matter.
And don’t get me wrong – while I have my doubts about sylvari’s knowledge, I’m perfectly fine with the idea of Pale Tree knowing something other don’t – however it hurts my heart. Moreover, I understand why Trahearne would turn to Tree for guidance. The real problem here is: my character wasn’t sylvari. Trahearne’s assumptions that „If anyone knows how to defeat Zhaitan, it is the Mother” should make no sense for Asura or Norn – and just why they feel more compelled to follow Trahaerne’s insight instead of e.g. asking their own researchers or havrouns for help is not entirely clear for me. Aside of the idea that beginning with Claw Island there’s nothing like personal story – it’s only Trahearne’s story…
Second thing, the vision in itself is nearly useless. Pale Tree’s rants about e.g. how courage is necessary to defeat Zhaitan doesn’t really help anyone – I think all of us figured this ourselves by that point. We also learnt of few miles of Orrian geography ([sarcasm mode]I assure you, no map older than 200 years prevailed[/sarcasm mode])… and of Eye but as it’s name – along with Mouth’s – was known to others, it wasn’t exactly anything new.
We also learnt that reunion of Destiny’s Edge is necessary. While ‘unity is necessary’ is commendable idea:
- Logan’s part in victory was essentially cutting the line holding „Victorious” to the ground. Have he really REALLY had to be reunited with Rytlock & rest just for it? Noone else in whole Pact could do it?
- Caithe, Eir, Rytlock showed just for final dungeon. And I’d be happy to tell that their part in victory wasn’t lying on the ground and waiting to be ressed but sadly I can’t.
- and Zojja is basically the only one that couldn’t be replaced – she made some operations on grand cannon, which I’m sure couldn’t be substituted by just anybody.
So, the facts up until now are IMHO nearly useless. Now, the useful part… First, we learnt of Trahearne’s destiny to lead the pact. But you can argue if this knowledge helped anyone. During the Orders’ meeting it was PC who proposed Trahearne’s as the leader of Pact – and no because of the vision but because there was noone else acceptable & available at the same time. We also learned of Zhaitan’s impending attack on Order’s HQ which was useful but just doesn’t strike me as kind of answer we were looking. And while we need answers ’cause of Claw Island, we found none.
Third thing: the desire to cleanse the Orr, streaming from this vision. It’s folly. While Trahearne’s Wyld Hunt & desire to cleanse Orr commendable per se, I don’t see it as pivotal. I’d even risk thesis that it was thoughtless – IIRC the lines nearly broke during both attempts to cleanse Orr, so Trahearne’s life was in danger. And while cleansed Orr is something to remember, the game falls to explain exactly how it’s supposed to give Pact upper hand with Zhaitan. I, for one, don’t remember Risen attacking me any less energically than before. Aaaand Source of Orr is set after the arrival of Pact troops to Arah – so it’s basically:
- halting the offensive of Arah in crucial point.
- seperating the main commanders (Efut, Wynnet & Velazques were present in Source too) from the troops while Elder Dragon’s main forces were just ahead.
- (ultimately) excluding the commander-in-chief from coordinating the troops in main battle of this war.
I understand perfectly well why they chose role as ‘second in command’ for player – while it doesn’t make any more sense than ‘big hero’ at this time, it’d be hard to incorporate player’s character as the symbol for the storyline of GW… like they did with e.g. Mhenlo and Togo (who ‘saved Cantha’).
While I’m not bitter about being ‘just a Commander’ and I certainly think it’s improvement from Kormir, I can’t help but wonder if Trahearne deserves as much credit as he receives. AAAAAND while I didn’t mind his involvement at first but now I found I don’t recall anything about him – he’s like ‘non-person’ to me. He just doesn’t have any personality, habits etc. I could claim to know. And now – with his Wyld Hunt complete & Zhaitan death – he is like empty shell for me.
And frankly, I think he should retire – there’s nothing left for him to do and no personality to like him for.
Any chance we can get the glimpse of the size of the expansion? Would it be rather ‘three new events, one jumping puzzle’ or some new area?
Sorry for the little OT – but been searching for statistics on most / less played races etc. for a while (I’d swear I saw them somewhere) – could you point me to them?
Playing only shortly, a few level away from 80, I still don’t have any money problems. But waypoint costs already made me feel uncomfortable about e.g. helping my friends in the beginners’ zones. It downscales me, so I can go down as fast any beginner… all that while I:
- have to pay much more for waypointing;
- have to pay much more for repair;
- don’t have any really chance to get any recompensate from e.g. events;
To make long story short – I think that waypoints should at least be made dependent on the area’s level. Otherwise, it will discourage players from visiting lower level zones & destroy point of downscaling… making endgame even more boring.
I’d like to see at least the possibility of changing the key bindings of weapon skills and utility skills. From first GW I have the habit of binding the skills I use most with first five (or so) keys – the rest is just too far for me to hit. The end result is that I rarely use my utility skills (preferring sygnets there) – and that even aggravates my problem with too small skill choices.
And, for the love of God, I’d like to have some kind of acceptable ‘looking for party’ tool, e.g. like that from old GW. You know – to communicate that I’m looking for people for AC, and not just to do whatever else oyu can.

Combat, Dynamic Events... what's the point if they're easy mode?
in Suggestions
Posted by: Velg.3170
“+1 ~ I agree and would like to see this in game”
And I agree with most of your cool suggestions but:
Now, lets add in ‘player skill’ ~
The cannons serve a dual purpose.. in that not only can they knock the Shatter dragon out of the sky, but they can also stun him (once he’s on the ground).Keep in mind that, every time the Shatter dragon crashes… pieces of him get “chunk’d off”. (his armor/wings/ect).
Each one of “those” are an HP bar and related to how other DE’s spawn/end.
So if players are skilled enough, they can focus down the Shatter Dragon by use of the cannons alone (keep in mind, that the cannons dmg normal players too.. so they can’t be used on the Shatter dragon while he’s on the ground fighting players… without you ALSO killing those players)
This gives ANet an opportunity to spawn “loot chests” via the “effort” put into the event.
So if the Shatter dragon was killed by cannons alone.. you’ll get a nice and small little chest at the end.. BUT if the entire map worked together to kill him (IE: the hard way) then players will be rewarded with a “Splendid Chest” via mail (since not ALL the players were at the shatter dragon when he died.) or some other “safe method” to guarantee loots for participating
.
[/quote]
IMHO it’s very bad idea to even consider the cannons, which could kill other players. Of course, it’d be very useful in making the events harder & making the coordination the requirement, but I’d be very sceptical if some people wouldn’t just use them to ‘accidentally’ kill event participants. And reporting it would be fishy ‘cause – as you remarked – killing dragons without killing others should require some skills, so it’d be hard to differ calculated friendly fire from accitental killing.
And I’m generally of opinion that while cooperations should be rewarding, with many people doing events it’d be very bad idea to punish for someone’s else mistakes. Person A doesn’t coordinates? Fine, he can go down in flames – but making others lose could be incredibly frustrating.
